CHAPTER 6: TALK

Mewtwo continued to carry Kirya; but he noticed that though her flushed face was gone, Shaddra was in deep thought like he had been in so many times before. He frowned a little at this. What had been said in that conversation? Was this what he was like all the time?

He set down Kirya and brought out the blanket. Kirya wrapped herself in it, making herself look like a Kakuna in a way. She had not woken up once in the hours she had been asleep. Had something in the water caused that? He shook it off and looked at Shaddra. She was looking up at him somewhat confused.

(Why are we stopping?) she asked.

(...Would you tell me what was said in that conversation? I know you do not wish to but telling someone may take your mind off it.)

Shaddra looked up at the moon. She climbed upon the boulder that was in the clearing. So many things went through her mind. Perhaps Moonwalker was right.

(You were right before you know. He asked if we could be mates... He had been following us for quite a while and I guess... He wondered why I was helping a human and accompanied by...you. I told him and he thought that that was good of me to do. He said though that I belonged in the forest with the rest of the Absols. I have to somewhat agree with him...but my place is with Kirya. When I told him about my weakness he offered to train me as well. Half of me wants to go with him...but the other holds me back... What should I do?) she wondered out loud.

(I cannot make your decisions for you. The only advice I can give is to do what your heart desires. I will take Kirya to Klayblue if you wish to go. It's your choice. I have not and never will have to make that choice; between duty and a mate.)

(What do you mean?) she looked at him in question.

(I am the only one of my species. I will never have a mate and children of my own.) he sighed, (Not that I really want those things, but the choice of having them would be good.)

(How can you be the only one of your species? As far as I know there hasn't been an extinction of a species for over a hundred years.)

(You are right. There has not been. I was not born but created by humans. That is why...) he said wondering why he dared to tell her this. This was his past. And like his name it should not be freely given.

(That explains all your secrecy. I understand now. I'm sorry...) she said to him looking at him with new understanding in her eyes, (I would not wish your fate on any creature. Perhaps someday things will be different for you...)

(No. Nothing shall change. That is my fate. To be alone for eternity. I have come to accept this.) and with that he walked away.

(Why did you talk to me about this?) she called after him.

(Despite all, you are my friend and I care about your wellbeing.) he said. (And what about Kirya? Do you care about her as well?)

(...As much as I could any child.)

Shaddra watched him go and turned her head to look up at the bright moon. His was a sad story that was certain. She now faced her own choice now. Should she go with Kirya and Moonwalker, or go to spend a happy life as a wild pokémon in the forest? She looked over at Kirya's sleeping form and wondered...
