CHAPTER 9: LITTLE MISS AMBER EYES
As they walked on Mewtwo felt a sense of growing dread. He dreaded having to leave Shaddra and Kirya. They were good company for him. But they still had awhile to go. That gave him hope. He could tell that Kirya and Shaddra were excited about going home.
Then a little bit after noon Shaddra ordered them to stop.
(Look at the clouds! It's going to storm big time soon. We need to find shelter.)
(You are right. There might be a cave by those cliffs. Let us see.) said Mewtwo. Being in a storm was something he was used to and in a way enjoyed. But he was sure that Kirya and Shaddra disagreed.
They eventually found one thanks to Kirya's observation. As a child she noticed everything it seemed. The storm started, and as Shaddra predicted it was a bad one. Lightning flashed above, and the wind howled bringing icy rain, and making the entrance of their cave a waterfall. Kirya huddled close to them, obviously afraid of the storm.
Mewtwo knelt down to her, taking her hands in his a gave her words of comfort.
(Do not be afraid Kirya. Shaddra and I will protect you; and we are safe in this cave. Besides the storm is passing. Remember that. The storm is passing...) he whispered to her.
He noticed then the real color of her eyes. This close they were a beautiful amber color that would make girls in years to come envy. But right now, Mewtwo was overcome by a familiarity in that word. Amber. That word meant something to him. But what he could not remember. What?...
So they sat there, watching the lightning flash and listening to the unmade words of the wind. Soon Shaddra realized that this would be the perfect time to teach Moonwalker the lullaby.
(Moonwalker I have something I want to teach you.)
(Very well. What is it?)
(A song or a lullaby. I think you'll like it...) and so she began the song:
Farewell to the sun, Hello to the moon, Sleep under starlight, Above Earth below,
This tune for thigh spirit, Sweet dreams come to thee, Of flight in the sky,
Of love from she.
(For a child instead of spirit the word would be child. And the last word of the song depends on the gender of who it is sung to. She if it's to a boy, and he if it's to a girl. Quite simple actually. But it is a good song. An even better lullaby. See, it's already put Kirya to sleep.)
Indeed, it had. Kirya was sleeping against Mewtwo's stomach using him as a pillow instead of Shaddra. Mewtwo looked fondly at the child then looked at Shaddra. (I like it. It is comforting. Teach me.)
And so she did till Mewtwo had memorized it by heart. By that time the sun was once again out and they woke Kirya up and started on their final stretch. Now, more then ever did he wish that Shaddra and Kirya would not go home.
