CHAPTER 14: AWAKENING

Slowly, the creature opened her eyes. It was blurry, she noticed, and blinked to see better. She was floating in some kind of gold-ish liquid, which was surrounded by a glass tube. Interesting…but what were those other creatures out there? What were they doing? Then she felt something bump into her back…fear seized her…something else was in here with her! What was this? Suddenly, she knew the answer. It was another like her…her sister. She nearly cried out as a thought not her own, entered her mind.

(So you've woken up. I suppose the humans will like that. They aren't aware that I've been doing so frequently. You learn a lot by listening…my name, they say, is Morgan.)

She found herself answering (Hi…I guess. Umm…so are those the humans?)

(Yes. They created us I understand.)

(That must have been difficult. They look…sleepy.)

(Bored and worried is more like it. They have nothing to do at the moment. You'd think they'd play cards like they did before.)

(Cards? You mean those paper things that one has?) (Yep, that would be them.)

(Wait…why would they be worried about us?)

(We're supposed to be killed in about twelve hours if we don't wake up. We have of course. Do you want to tell them now or should we do a dramatic act and wake up just minutes before they kill us?) Asked Morgan.

(Umm…let's play it safe. Before we do that…what's my name?)

(Your name is Scarlet Neva or Neva for short. I'd better do it. I have a bit more experience then you.)

(How will you get their attention?) Asked Neva.

(Talk…here goes: Hello…we've woken up!) She said to the scientists thinking to herself how lame that sounded.

Amused they saw all the scientists jump to their feet in surprise and look around to see if this was a prank, like some of the other scientists had done lately. Then they looked at the clones and their jaws dropped. Both had their eyes opened and we looking at them with little smiles, bubbles coming from their mouths as though chuckling. They then realized the truth. The two wouldn't have to die! They shouted, they laughed, they did high fives, and they smiled happily at the two. But soon those smiles turned to frowns as they realized the clone's purpose. The two, seeing this, shared worried thoughts. What could this mean?

Suddenly one of them, John, who had been talking on the phone, got off and talked hurriedly to the others who immediately got to their stations. Neva and Morgan then felt the tubes that were in them pull out, which caused them a small amount of pain, and felt the liquid around them recede with them at the bottom of the tube, the glass began to go into its hidden area causing the cold air of the lab to reach them. When it was fully gone Neva couldn't help but shiver while Morgan was already getting used to the cold. Then a large man came into the room and stood in front of them.

"Hello, Morgan, Scarlet Neva. Welcome to the world. You may be wondering where you are. You are in the genetics laboratory in the main headquarters of my organization. You were made to aid me in our cause. My name is Mr. Alexander the head of this organization, and I ask you to call me Boss. Is there any questions?"

(Plenty. But none to do what you just said. I suppose we have no real choice in this matter. What's in this for us?) Asked Morgan somewhat rudely.

"You will receive your own quarters and training areas…also an adequate supply of food and drink. All I wish in return is for you to serve me…and only me. Do we have a deal, Morgan, Scarlet Neva?"

(What do you think Morgan?)

(I'm not entirely sure I trust you, Mr. Alexander…but what the heck. We agree.) "Good. Come with me then."

(Wait…I'd like to say thanks to my creators.) Said Morgan. (Yeah, me too.)

"Be quick then."

(Bob, Mary, John, Mark, thank you. I had a pleasure listening to your bets. I sometimes wondered which I should take…but I decided to wait for Neva.) Morgan said to the astounded scientists.

(Yes, thank you. We're ready.)

So they followed the Boss. The scientists were still in shock at learning that Morgan had been awake all that time. It was almost funny. Mary voiced her amazement then they realized with horror that this was not a good thing. They were going to be in an awful lot of trouble for not realizing she had been awake. This was bad…

Meanwhile Neva and Morgan tried following nearly silently behind the Boss.

Their footsteps echoed in the long hallway, however. Down steps, through hallways, down ladders, their quarters were on the bottom floor apparently. Or at least that's what Neva thought. She was right.

"First, I'd like you to see your training area. This is where you'll practice your psychic and fighting powers in your free time. Battles are important here in headquarters. So you'd best get used to it."

The training quarters were very foreboding, full of traps and obstacles. Neva was beginning to understand that this was not going to be as easy as she once thought. This was serious…

"This way."

Their quarters were connected to the gym. In is there were twin beds, a dresser full of various things, and a small kitchen and bathroom. Not much but enough for them. Besides, they didn't know any better. They didn't know what the Boss had in store for them. They didn't know that if they failed to do as the Boss pleased they would be killed. But most importantly, they didn't know anything about whom they had been created from; they knew nothing of Mewtwo. And they never would if the Boss had his way…

Soon, the real tests would begin.
