CHAPTER 15: FIGHT!

Neva woke up to the sound of Morgan's yelling. It had been about a week since they had awakened, but she had never heard Morgan scream before. As she rose stiffly from her bed, she smelled sweat and blood in the air. Realizing this, she jumped up and looked around. Morgan wasn't to be seen. The door to the gym hung ajar and the sounds of Morgan's yelling grew louder as she approached. Soon, Morgan came into view: she was battling a Fearow. At first, seeing this, Neva thought she might need help. But it soon became apparent that Morgan was winning…and she was enjoying it. This unnerved Neva, who had never even seen a battle before. But this was no ordinary battle. This was one to the death...it would not stop at fainting like regular battles did. Soon Morgan was beating down on the bird with blood lust in her eyes. There was a sickening crack as she broke the Fearow's neck. It was dead. Someone screamed from the wall.

Neva became aware of a young man there, looking at this scene in horror. Then came the Boss's voice out of the shadows.

"Let this be a lesson to you Mr. Sandson. Do not fail me again. Next time it won't be your pokémon…"

"…Yes, sir! I swear I'll never disappoint you again. Just don't send this…monster after me! Please, I beg of you…"

"Go to your room Sandson. Morgan needs a rest." Said the Boss, his voice dripping with the pleasure at seeing this lowly person fall back into place so easily. So easy it was.

These creatures were truly the key to all success.

As the man ran he looked over his shoulder and saw in horror Neva. There were two of these monsters! First his prized and friend Fearow dies and now there are not one but two. Would the nightmare never end?

Once the man was gone Morgan saw Neva and grinned. But when she saw the horror on Neva's face she frowned. The battle had been exhilarating, the adrenaline of it pumped through her veins still. Blood tasted nearly sweeter then the fruit she had eaten in the morning. But if her sister did not like it…was it really so great? Morgan floated over to her sister and looked at her with confusion.

(What is wrong?)

(You killed that creature Morgan. You took its life away from it and smiled. How could you do that? No one has that right. Neither us nor anyone else. How could you?)

(Neva…)

(Morgan…why.)

(I…I don't know…)

"If you're done with your private conversation, Scarlet Neva your up."

(What?!)

"It's your turn. Go and fight!"

(Neva, go! I don't know what he'll do to you if you don't. Please Neva…)

(Grrr…I don't wish to fight but…I'll do it. Who's my opponent?)

"Right there Scarlet Neva. Miss Hikara release you're Typhlosion. …Now!"

"Go…Typhlosion! Beat that thing!" cried the girl.

"Scarlet Neva…show me what you can do."

(Good luck…) said Morgan.

So the battle started. The Typhlosion, using its fire attacks, quickly became the aggressor. Neva didn't get hurt, true, but she was not attacking. The Boss soon realized this, with a grimace of anger. This creature, this tool, this CLONE, would not oppose him!

"Scarlet Neva, attack it now! Do as I say!"

And so she did. Soon Neva was winning the match. When it was unconscious, she hesitated, but only for a bit after the 'encouraging' of the Boss. Soon the fire pokémon was bleeding from many places. Then, the trainer could not stand silent anymore. She shouted, she begged, for Neva to stop. Neva listened and cringed as she heard the Boss telling the girl to shut up.

"Scarlet Neva, finish it! Kill it now!"

Neva stepped forward to do the dirty deed. But as she did this, a thought came through her head. She did not need to do this. Who said she had to kill this creature? Wasn't it hurt enough? She heard the crying of the trainer in the background of the otherwise silent gym.

She turned around and stepped away. Walking towards the girl she saw her look up in amazement. She put her strange hand on the girl's shoulder and told her in private thought.

(I'm no killer.)

So Neva floated back to her room and shut the door. The three looked at her in awe, amazement, and hate. The girl quickly returned her pokémon to its poke'ball and ran for it. The Boss, in frustration, power-walker from the room. Something had to be done about this; and he had an idea brewing that he knew would work. It would be tricky, but it could be done.

Back in the gym, Morgan quickly followed her sister into their room. She saw that Neva had fallen asleep, or was pretending to. Quietly, she went over and sat on her bed. She was a bit scared of her battle now…but that was no reason not to comfort her sister.

(Neva…what you did was very brave. I don't know what will become of it. But I hope for the best. Sleep now. It seems as though the day has slipped by us once more. I'm going for a walk. Sweet dreams…)

As Morgan walked away Neva opened her eyes and said a silent thank you to her twin. She got up, and walked to the kitchen. It had a variety of odds and ends in it.

Taking a fairly large and ripe fruit out of the refrigerator, as she had learned it was called, she ate it in silence. Morgan's words pounded in her head and she began to wonder what would become of her refusing to kill. She wondered…and as she lay back on her bed, she went to sleep…
