THE MEWTWO CHRONICLES: PART 3

CHAPTER 26: DILEMMA

Mewtwo flew with the other, the LAST of his species in his arms. She was bleeding terribly now, no matter how he tried to stop it. He prayed that he would make it to Mt. Keyna in time. Looking down at Neva, he cringed. He would never get used to seeing bloody holes in her.

Hopefully, he'd never have to again. He thought back to what Morgan requested of him to do. To take care of Neva. Mewtwo planned to do just that. But…what did Neva herself want?

Then, with immense relief, he saw Mt. Keyna appear on the horizon. Its vast peaks awed him still, and he wished dearly that he could teleport both Neva and himself to the spring. But that might further damage his companion... Mewtwo felt her stir then, and cry out in pain.

Looking down at her he decided to not to continue to go at such a sluggish pace, to hide from the humans below. If they saw him, so be it. Neva could not go without that spring water any longer! He silently cursed himself for not thinking of bringing any of that healing liquid to his city home. That distance was a lot shorter. He had to hurry!

(Hold on Neva. We're nearly there now.)

Mewtwo could only hope that the spring would help her. As he flew into the dark caverns, in which the lake and spring were, he noticed how empty they seemed without his fellow clones there. Clutching Neva tighter to him, he floated down to the edge of the sacred spring.

Once he got to its bank, he set her gently down, then used his powers to take some of the water from the tiny pool, and tried to make her drink. After many unsuccessful attempts, he began to panic, wanting nothing more than to lash out in fury. How could he help Neva if she refused to take it? One could lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink!

…Then the blessed happened. Neva slowly began to sip the elixir that would do miracles…

Her blood stopped flowing out of her wounds as she began to heal. Her coloring seemed to perk up, become richer with health. And yet, even though this had happened, Neva did not awake. Even though Mewtwo continued to give her spring water, something was amiss. Though her wounds were healed, she continued to cry out in pain. Mewtwo began to wonder frantically if the spring water was no longer pure. That couldn't be though! As Mewtwo examined her quickly, with a bit of embarrassment, he noticed that the areas where her wounds had been; were puffy, and odd in color. What was wrong with her? But surely, the spring water would help her? It had practically brought him back from the dead! But what if, this time, it didn't?

Mewtwo thought of the humans at the base of Mt. Keyna. They had medical technology with them. Could they help?

Mewtwo was faced with a choice then. He could stay here and wait to see if the spring water would help Neva, and keep his…their…secrecy. Or, he could go to those humans for help. He would much prefer to stay here but…there was a risk. If the spring water did NOT help Neva…she might die. If he went to humans though, it would mean that they were no longer a secret from them. With anger, he recalled the male human down there, Cullen Calix, saying to the boy, Ash, that he could not risk defiling the spring with the clone. Defile the spring, HIM?! Would those humans, so greedy for their own health and not a dying pokemon's, really help them? They might just turn away with fear from them! Then, he recalled Morgan words:

(Take care of my sister, Mewtwo. Without me, she needs you… Farewell…to both of you…) The choice was not so difficult. He knew what he needed to do…
