CHAPTER 27: HELP

In Luna's personal opinion, today had been a fantastic day. Cullen had actually proposed to her! She had said yes, of course. She was terribly excited! Where would they have the marriage, she couldn't help but wonder? Luna looked over to the sleeping man beside her in his Fearow PJ's. Fingering the engagement ring on her right ring finger, she sighed happily to herself. Oh, there were so many plans to make. She wondered vaguely what her family would say. Oh, dear god. She would have to talk to her mother... Grimacing at the thought, she heard a sudden knock on the door of the cabin. What in the world…who would come at this time of night? Sleepily getting out of her bed, she put on her robe over her nightgown and walked towards the door. The knocking was becoming more insistent. Reaching out to grasp the cold metal, she opened the door tiredly.

Nothing, NOTHING, would have prepared her for what she saw. It was rainy out yes, but that wasn't what freaked her out. There, in the doorway, was an alien! A familiar alien though…Luna mentally shook herself. She must have seen something like it in a horror movie…yes that must be it. Then she noticed the OTHER creature. Mouth gaping in horror she saw the same type creature in its arms. It…she…did not look good what so ever. It looked as though she had been shot several times, and healed in a manner that did not help much. Then a voice entered her head.

(I need your help human.)

Luna could tell right then that it…he…did not wish to be speaking to her. But there was another note in that statement. He sounded…almost as if he was the least bit begging. She tried to think of this in reason. She had to be dreaming. This was in no way, reality. Luna pinched herself to make sure. It hurt. It HURT! This was 100% real! She felt like fainting. No way…

After a few seconds though, she decided to do the only thing she could that was remotely reasonable. She invited him in.

"Cullen, get out of bed…NOW!" she yelled while quickly closing the door.

Cullen came scrambling out of the room, looking at the scene. In an instant, the same, dumfounded expression came upon his face. Seeing him scrambling for a logical thought, Luna sighed, and then pointed the male creature to the medical room. He went silently. Quickly going over to Cullen, she pinched him.

He gave a short, pained cry at that, "Ouch!" but then, figuring out what it meant, he gave a groan.

"Oh great… So this isn't some crazy dream. And here I was thinking I was having some twisted nightmare… Why does that creature look so familiar anyways? Why in the world did you let it into our house Luna?! Why-"

She began to tick off her reasons, interrupting him, "One, we probably saw him in some horror movie. Two, the other one's hurt. And three…we should help them. Anything else?"

He shook his head, "You're being very brave about this, I'll tell you that. Ummm…well let me get my robe."

As Cullen did that, Luna went into the medical room. She noticed quickly that the male had set his companion down on the table and was merely gazing at her with a concerned expression. Seeing Luna enter, he approached her silently. Luna stood her ground, but only just. Leaning over her, he gave her a solemn look.

(You fear me don't you? Fine. But help her; that is all I ask. …Now human!) He ordered.

Luna couldn't help but feel irritated. She been woken up in the middle of the night, by a creature that had zero respect for those he was asking for help. Frankly, it pissed her off! "Grrr… Why should we help you? If you keep bossing us around I'm not sure I will!"

The glare he gave her sent shivers down her spine, (…Do you know why she has those wounds human? Because she tried to take freedom when it was offered to her, and it was a group of your species that were selfish enough to decide that she either stay with them, or die. I came here to ask you to help her since….I cannot. I…please help her… I am sorry for acting this way but…my past haunts me when it comes to you humans. Her sister is dead because of them…and her only wish for me to take care of this creature here… I will do that…even if it means turning to you humans for help. Please…)

As he turned his back on her, Luna's eyes began to soften with understanding. Luna then looked at the table, on which the wounded creature was on, and cringed. Just looking at her was painful... In a flash, Luna understood that she had to help them. Besides…the fellow had said please.

Cullen came in just then. He looked very confused in Luna's point of view. Quickly he went to Luna's side and whispered into her ear.

"Do you have any idea how to look over this creature, Luna? This is a place for humans not…whatever that thing is!" he hissed quickly.

His fiancé shrugged, "It looks to me like she's been shot. Look at where the wounds used to be. They're all puffy, so it's probably an infection. What we need to do is cut open the wounds, clean them out, and get the source out. I'm thinking that the bullets are still lodged in there."

He gave her an odd look, "How you can figure that out in fifteen minutes is beyond me. Well…let's get started."

So the couple walked to the table cautiously, while Mewtwo watched in a worried silence. The humans got out an array of medical instruments, some in which he even recognized, and put on gloves as any normal doctor would do. Then they began to cut the infected flesh. At this, Mewtwo couldn't help but leap up and start towards them. Luna quickly turned around, after seeing the sudden movement, and grabbed his arm, leading him out as Cullen began to work deeper into the wound. After a bit Luna came back in, and worked on the other wounds after seeing Cullen had removed the first bullet. Pus oozed out of the wounds for a while, but soon they cleared and blood began to flow from them instead. This was great; they were nearly finished!

Then, to their surprise, the creature woke up. Panic surfaced in her eyes as she saw the two, but then, with little strength, she returned to her sleep. After a moment of hesitation, they cleansed the wounds fully and then bandaged them up after applying a large amount of antibiotics. Their messy work finally done, they soaped down the equipment, and then, in hesitation, Luna took her gloves off. Sighing with relief, the dark haired woman told Cullen to clean up the rest, and went into the other room. She found the male creature pacing impatiently. Upon seeing her arrival, he stopped and shot her a glance as if to ask if his companion was all right. Luna answered him after a few seconds of hesitation, in honesty.

"She had an immense infection from the bullets, so we had to get those out before we could really clean the wounds. She's all bandaged up and sleeping right now. You don't need to worry…your mate is fine."

At this statement, she received a strange look from him. In the background, she heard Cullen wheeling the supplies to their storage areas. Mewtwo, keeping his eyes averted, corrected her.

(We are not mates. I barely know her… Now that she's okay though, I have a new set of worries…) he said, and sighed, (But…I thank you...)

She gave him a curt nod, "Your welcome. You aren't …aliens are you?"

(No, we're pokémon, if you must know. Is it all right…if I go in now?) He questioned.

"Oh, sure! Go right ahead. We'll be in our room if you need anything…but please…we need sleep."

He nodded, (I understand. I can supply myself with anything if need be.)

A bit nervous about his last statement, she scrubbed her hands and quickly went to bed, finding Cullen already there. Figures... As she lay in bed, the night's events played through her mind. Quietly, she turned over to face her fiancé, only to realize that he too, was awake.

Smiling, he laid back tired.

"Hell of a way to spend our first night engaged." He whispered playfully.

"You got that right." She commented, smiling, "…Good night Cullen."

"Good night Luna…" he said quickly kissing her brow.

As Mewtwo sat in the chair provided by the bedside, he could see that the humans had done their work well. Even bandaged, Mewtwo could tell that Neva was in far less pain. But now a real problem faced him. What would he tell her when she awoke?

He had to tell her about her sister, there was no way she could avoid that. But what else? With these thoughts going through his mind, he barely noticed Neva opening her eyes.

Neva felt awful. It was as though someone had shot her all over again. But now it wasn't such agony as it used to be. Then, she noticed her surroundings. A human place…

No…! They had failed to get their freedom… Feeling as if she wanted to die, right then and there, she turned her head to notice Mewtwo sitting in a chair beside her. Well…maybe it wouldn't be so bad…

(Where are we? Did we get caught?) She asked, her voice jerking Mewtwo out of his momentary trace.

He smiled, shaking his head, (No. I'll tell you more later. Just go to sleep Neva…)

Neva did so, feeling relieved and immensely tired. With the information that she was finally free, she slept soundly, except when the pain of her wounds intruded. Soon Mewtwo was also sleeping, but in his hard resting place, he knew that the small escape of unconsciousness would not last long. But for now, it would do… Yes…it would do…
