CHAPTER 42: WONDROUS TIDINGS

Neva awoke slowly the next day, her eyes fluttering open tiredly. From her sprawled out position on her side, she lifted her head a bit, blinking silently at what she was seeing. For a moment, she was confused. Why was she in Mewtwo's bed? And why was his arms and tail curled around her so? As a few choice memories from the day, and even night before, flooded back to her, she smiled. She sunk back into bed, nuzzling her…mate, gently. For that's what they were now… If that wasn't apparent by the intimate way they were lying down together, then the faint soreness between her legs proved it. She sighed, deciding to enjoy the comfortable position she was in until he awoke... Ideas for what to do this morning made her grin.

Her arms lying against her love's chest, she gently traced one of its armor like ridges gently. Despite the fact he was deeply asleep, she saw a small smile form on Mewtwo's face. Oh god…to stay like this forever…how tempting it was. However, it seemed that her bladder disagreed with that idea. She cursed quietly at her body for that…she certainly didn't want to get up now. But, unfortunately, there wasn't another option…

As she relieved herself in the bathroom, washing her paws quickly, she looked at herself in the mirror. Ugghhh…she was a mess, even though Mewtwo might disagree with that statement. Her skin was streaked with sweat though…she so needed to bathe. She looked across the hall to Mewtwo, who was sleeping deeply in his…or she supposed it could also be considered their bed. Mind made up, she grabbed a towel from the rack, and ignoring the perfectly swell shower stall near her, she teleported to the gym downstairs. There was a Jacuzzi there…and considering it was in perfectly sanitized and fine condition, and never used, she doubted Mewtwo would mind if she used it for cleansing purposes. After getting it ready, she sighed as she slipped into the hot, bubbling water…it felt extremely soothing to her somewhat stiff muscles. The sex and sweat of last night quickly seemed to wash away…

The water wasn't actually heated with electricity, or whatever power sources were usually used for that purpose. Mewtwo had actually made it so the heat from certain magma flares miles beneath the city warmed it, a homemade hot spring one could say. The permanent psychic barrier he'd placed made it so nothing…lethal could rise up, no accidental eruptions of burning temperatures… It was ingenious, and used a natural power source that wouldn't harm the environment in any way. It was something that Mewtwo however, kept to himself. He was not one to gloat…

Speaking of the feline, he was soon to surprise Neva by finding her, silently coming into the warm water with her. He curled his arms around her waist after that, bringing her to the surface of the water she'd so previously dunked under. Neva, soaking, gazing up at him in surprise and delight, uncurling from her nearly fetal position that she'd taken when relaxing under the water. With the loud bubbles rising past her, she hadn't even heard Mewtwo come into the gym or otherwise. He smiled at her, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. Neva grinned, feeling joy at the gesture blossom in her chest. How she loved him…

(So this is where you decided to sneak off to…I was quite surprised, to wake up alone in bed.) He commented, sighing.

Neva nuzzled his throat gently, (Don't worry…I'll be there next time love.)

Mewtwo couldn't help but grin at being addressed in such a manner, (Oh? So I wasn't 'horrible'?)

The female's eyes widened, (You heard that?)

He chuckled, (Yes, I did…I can hear excellently. But that isn't an answer to my question.) He murmured, holding her tighter, his tone somehow managing to be a bit suggestive.

Neva grinned, (You were dreadful…) her tone implying the exact opposite, it being a joke.

He kissed her fully quickly, running a paw down her side, (If that's so, I think I'll try to convince you otherwise…how does that sound?)

Her eyes closed because of the kiss, she gave a tiny moan, (That's fine…)

Neva quickly found herself lying half on the cement near the hot tub, half under water, bent underneath her mate, enjoying the quick touches, the more passionate kisses. Eventually, they'd go somewhere far more comfortable for the activity they'd decided to engage in, but for now, no matter how uncomfortable…this would do. She quietly sighed in content, and continued to slightly enjoy the sensation of their wets bodies against one another…

A few weeks later, Neva sat alone at the dining room table, smelling the enticing scent of breakfast cooking in the kitchen. Mewtwo had insisted upon making it for reasons unknown to her, but she was assured that he was simply being sweet. An omelet on rye toast, with a side of nice fruits were what sounded good to her. Her counterpart had agreed, not questioning her when she'd said she'd like some blueberries, despite how she'd previously disliked them, to his knowledge. He wanted to treat her to something, after all she'd done for him to him in the past…and this seemed, while not nearly enough, fitting. Of course, he had to pray he wouldn't burn everything in the process of repaying her…

Mew could be seen floating near the ceiling, having come unbidden once again out of nowhere. The delight that'd been plastered over her face, when she'd found out about their new status as mates, for real this time, had not faded over the past few days. She insisted on trying to aid the new couple any way she could… This had included throwing a party with some of the fellow clones, and aiding Mewtwo and Neva in cooking. The latter was far more needed by them…

"Mew MEW?!" she questioned him suddenly, "Mewtwo, what did you eat before this if you couldn't cook?!"

(Fresh fruits and vegetables mostly…bread and cheese…things that don't require anything more than a knife to prepare.) He answered promptly, flipping the omelet in the pan, luckily managing to keep it in it. He glanced over at Neva, seeing she was gazing at a spot in front of her with glassy eyes. She'd been so tired lately…

Quickly finishing the meal in the next five minutes, he crossed out of the kitchen towards Neva, Mew helping him carry the many plates and bowls that contained the breakfast for each of them. Mewtwo and Mew quickly sat down at the table, (of in the latter case, on the table), waiting for Neva to try the concoction that they'd made. The female clone seemed to perk up at the prospect of food, and took a small, tentative piece of the omelet on her fork, putting it in her mouth and chewing.

After swallowing, she grinned, saying that it tasted great, much to Mewtwo's relief. He had always had others prepare food for him…or at least made something not difficult to accomplish. As they all started eating Mewtwo glanced at his mate every once in a while, noticing how she ate. Politely, mouth closed and in tiny bites…everything about her seemed to have some sort of grace. God…he was terribly fortunate, to have her…for more reasons than he could count.

Suddenly though, after a few more swallows of food, Neva's fork clattered to the wooden table as she let it go, an odd look on her face. Immediately she stood, rushing out of the room, leaving Mewtwo and their visitor in extreme confusion. Mewtwo quickly left the table, following her, and was soon accompanied by the pink, optimistic kitten. They quickly found her in the bathroom, leaning over the toilet. She had an ill green tinge to her face, giving a small groan as she flushed what had been the contents of her stomach away. She turned the water on, swishing a mouthful of water, and spat, wiping the area near her lips quickly with a cloth. Mewtwo quickly went over to her.

(Are you all right? Was something not cooked or…?) He trailed off, not knowing what to guess at.

Neva shook her head quickly, (It wasn't the food… My stomach just…doesn't seem to want to keep anything down lately.)

Mewtwo's eyebrows rose, (This has happened before?)

Neva wrung her hands, (Yeah…for the past few days now…)

(You never told me!)

The pale Mewtwo didn't look at him, (I…I wanted to keep it to myself.)

(Neva...) he groaned in exasperation, (You shouldn't keep something like that a secret! You could be ill-)

"Mew…" the legendary suddenly commented from out of nowhere, "I don't think she's sick…"

Mewtwo turned to her in response, (Well what else could it be?)

"Mew… Mew memew." The kitten ordered calmly, flying in the outside hall, "Hmmm… Neva, come here for a moment."

Neva obeyed, stepping out of the bathroom. Mewtwo, despite the fact that he hadn't been called, slipped beside her, wondering what Mew was doing, as she flew near Neva's waist. The female clone herself kept herself from jumping away as the blue eyes creature prodded her reddish stomach. What was she…? Mew quickly commented on the firmness of the pale humanoid's abdomen, making Neva's mind race. What-what was she getting at? Her muscles there were, yes, tougher than usual, but that was only because she'd been exercising her stomach muscles more so than anything else lately. She'd figured she'd been ignoring that part of her body in whole…

"Mew…" Mew suddenly grinned, "I thought so…"

Neva beat Mewtwo to asking, ('Thought' what?)

"Mew," Mew flew in front of the couples' faces, answering with a bright note, "You're pregnant."

That took a second to sink in. At the same moment, the mates looked down to Neva's stomach, as though expecting to see in swollen from a baby inside. But they saw nothing different…not even a slight mound. But it had only been a few weeks since their first time…the female wouldn't be showing yet. As they absorbed it though, they had extremely different reactions. For Mewtwo, it was pure joy, the way he quickly embraced Neva tightly, smiling widely, showed that. But Neva had quite a different expression on her face, of shock…and fear.

(We're going to have a baby?) She questioned, her voice shaky, to Mew. Oh dear god…

"Mew! Mew mew. Me. Memew." She replied. "Yes! Quite possibly a handful of them at a time. After all, you have the genetics of my species. And we give birth to litters. But considering your form, humanoid and such…maybe four at the most?"

Four?!, Neva's mind screamed, but she said instead, (Can you tell how many…I'm carrying…?)

"Mew…Mew!" Mew went back to her stomach, touching it gently, her eyes glowing for a moment, "Let's see…I sense…three!"

Neva was reduced to echoing the word, (Three…three…) She was having triplets. She was going to give birth to three babies…oh…

Mewtwo finally noticed her reaction, (Neva? Neva aren't you…happy about this?) Oh god, what if she wasn't? What if…?

Neva took a moment to think on that, the look on her face not fading. She'd-she'd never considered, in her entire life, being a mother. Even having a mate seemed to be impossible before, and now…oh god. She recalled playing with Nidoqueen's and Rhyhorn's little ones…but, she hadn't really considered herself…a maternal figure…when participating in the game with them. She didn't know what to feel. One might have been a fine thing, still shocking. Two would have been okay, only a bit more stressing and surprising. But three…? It was…completely overwhelming. She was quite aware of the fact that her breathing had become quick and shaky, realizing that she was panicking. Oh, god…how…how was she going to do this? She-she didn't know how to be a mom!

(I'm…I'm happy…) it was true, somewhere deep down, for her, (It's just…I'm terrified as well!)

The look on Mewtwo's face, stricken, contorted more with dismay, (Neva if you…don't want this then…there are things we could…)

He couldn't finish the sentence. The idea of his mate not desiring these children was bad enough as it was. But to think of…abortion, in any manner…it killed him. Because, just as he had got over his immediate shock, he already loved the babies growing inside of her. The idea of terminating them…it was unbearable. Fortunately, Neva knew what he was thinking, and immediately turned around in his grasp and clinging to him tightly. No…she wouldn't ever do such a thing.

(Don't be ridiculous…these are our children. I have no desire to rid myself of them. Just because the idea of being a mother is a bit overwhelming to me, doesn't mean I'll run away from it. I already love them…) she whispered quietly, nuzzling his face, seeing the motion comforting him, as well as her words, (I'll be okay beloved…)

He kissed her quickly, (That's good…I wouldn't want you to be…burdened…) Another painful thought…

She smiled, (If they have the same stubborn attitude as their father, perhaps.) she stated jokingly. He grinned, lifting her off her feet, (You're one to talk.)

Suddenly he began to laugh, almost hysterically, spinning around with Neva in his arms, her lower form almost crashing into Mew, who dodged quickly. After another tight embrace, he reluctantly set her down, kissing her, his hands resting on her stomach. Breaking away, he looked down, stroking her abdomen gently, sighing. He was going to be a father, and Neva, a mother. They were going to have three little babies…the joy of it made his heart swell. Neva grinned back at his smiling face, turning her head and resting it on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. She gently curled her arms around him, feeling her mate return the favor. They were to be parents…she hoped she would make a good mother... She already knew that Mewtwo would be a terrific papa…

In the couple of months that followed, Neva's pregnancy became clear. According to Mew, who held another party, not unsurprisingly, she would be pregnant a total of four months before she gave birth. Most large cats of the pokémon world gave birth around that time, and since most pokémon infants grew far quicker in the womb than humans, it made logical sense. Neva, now just after two months, stroked her belly gently, looking around five months if one were to compare her to a pregnant human. She would not show as much as one in the end though, for various reasons…

Sitting on the soft couch then, resting her back on one of the arms, she sighed, smiling gently. She had by now, accepted and welcomed the idea of having children…and seeing how they were Mewtwo's, the idea made her feel glowing with warm…and complete. When learning about their being the only one of their kind, the idea had pounded in her head. And now, it was coming true. There was hope for their species yet… However, it was the thought of a family which she enjoyed, more so than scientific concerns. Not only did she have a wonderful mate, but they were also going to have children! It was more than she could've dreamed…

Mewtwo suddenly appeared from behind her, kissing her brow, and handing her a small bowl of vanilla ice cream with almonds. She had cravings at the oddest of times, thankfully, none being too strange. She thanked Mewtwo then, feeling her sit behind her on the arm of the furniture. She gave a tiny giggle as she felt a paw stroke her facial features then, enjoying it immensely. At his will, she titled her face upwards, receiving a sweet kiss on the lips.

(Enjoy.) He said as he broke away gently, glancing at the ice cream. She smiled…yes, she certainly would.

He watched fondly as she gobbled the dessert down, glad she was in a good mood. More than once, she'd had various mood swings, her snappy side coming out occasionally. Fortunately, he'd never been on the receiving end of her barbed words…but he didn't intend to do anything to upset her. As she finished, he teleported the bowl back into the kitchen, hearing Mew give a distinct cry of protest. With Neva "incapable of doing chores", she and Mewtwo had been doing the housework, usually something shared between the mates, but now included her instead of the pregnant female. She was currently washing the dishes.

Neva silently scooted up on the couch, allowing Mewtwo to sit behind her. She leaned back against him then, comfortably within his limbs, gently breathing it the scent of him. Tea, and musk…and her. She smiled, even though this would be expected, since they spent nearly every waking and sleeping moment together. Unless Mewtwo went out…the idea was always unpleasant to her. What if, one day, he didn't come back? What if their children, never got to meet their father? Mewtwo, catching onto this thought, wrapped his arms tighter around her, resting his paws on her stomach.

(I won't leave you and them Neva. Ever…) he whispered.

(You'd better not…) she said quietly, turning her head around to kiss him. She felt something nagging at the back of her mind though…

A few moments passed in silence, (Mewtwo…?)

His fingers gently stroked her lightly swollen abdomen tenderly, (Yes?)

(Can we…please go back to where I…used to live with Morgan?)

Mewtwo blinked in surprise, (Why?) he inquired, curious.

Neva bit her lower lip, (I…want closure, about my sister.)

Mewtwo gazed at her with a soft expression, (Oh…I see… But…why now, after all this time…?)

Neva rested her paws on top of Mewtwo's, (I want to come to terms with the dead…before I bring some new lives into the world.)

Mewtwo nodded, accepting that, (All right…when?)

She gave him a hopeful look, (Ummm…today?)

Mewtwo agreed, walking towards the kitchen to tell Mew their plans. The legendary, using her powers to do the chore given to her, gave him an evil look for giving her the rest of the housecleaning for the day, but gave him the okay. Mewtwo then gently curled his arms around his mate, and teleported them to where he remembered the area to be, so many miles away…

When they arrived there, a split second later, they looked around, not quite believing their eyes. Was…was this really the sight of a massive explosion? The lake that filled much of the area, shown a deep sapphire blue color, the trees overhead healthy and green as the grass underneath their feet. Spring was in full swing, that could be told be the flowers all around them. On the tiny island in the center of the water mass, to which Neva felt a pull, she could spy bright blue flowers, of a kind she didn't know.

Suddenly, out of the bushes, came a creature that Mewtwo at least knew well. Slowking…how long ago it had been, when they'd rampaged the building that used to stand here, for Neva and her sister's sake. An arm wrapped around his mate, he greeted the shorter psychic, getting a hello in return. The being took a second glance at Neva, and smiled, telling Mewtwo and her that he had learned of their becoming mates and to-be-parents, from clone Ninetales, who was somewhere around. Neva smiled, recalling the vixen's gift…a sack of Poke'Blocks. Tasty little candies made from berries…

Mewtwo quickly asked what had occurred here, getting the run down. In Morgan's honor, they had done this…restored the area to its natural beauty, creating a lake and such. The island was Morgan's resting place, he told, noticing the look the female got in her eyes at that. He told her quietly that they hadn't allowed anyone to even step upon it…that would only be permitted to family. Neva thanked him, and quietly shivered, everything seeming to remind her of her sister, even though nothing here resembled her in any way, besides perhaps the lake…

Mewtwo quickly embraced her again, and teleported them to the edge of the island. It was quite small, about the size of a few cars parked beside one another. She silently broke away from Mewtwo, walking towards the willow tree. The soft grass under her feet was comforting…as was Mewtwo, who came to stand beside her…

(So this is your resting place Morgan…? It's beautiful…) she whispered, not knowing what to say truly.

(It's okay…it's better than a headstone at any rate.)

Neva looked at Mewtwo suddenly, seeing that his eyes were wide. He'd heard the voice as well…quiet, yet present. Looking around, she saw nothing at first…no one whom could have made that sound, said those words. Yet, she got the distinct feeling that Morgan was speaking…but how could that be?

(Is it that difficult to believe, that I can talk to you? Ever heard of the movie "White Noise"? Based on a true story so I've heard.)

The noise came from off to her left. Neva turned, her eyes growing wide. Morgan…she was there. Standing…no floating right in front of her, near the base of the tree. She was transparent however, hardly to be seen in the bright sunlight. But she was there…or at least her spirit was!

(Morgan? Is that really you?) She asked, not believing her eyes.

Morgan smiled, (Yeah…but you look far more interesting that my see-through self!) she laughed, (You're pregnant…just like I envisioned you…)

Neva blinked in confusion, (What…?)

Morgan's smile faded for a moment, (I had a premonition of this moment, back when we were all trapped in the electric cage…and another of all of us being slaves to the humans. The only large difference that I noticed was that I was alive in one…and dead in the other. And you two were happy, in this future, so…I decided to make sure...this was the way things played out. Even though it meant my life would end.)

Mewtwo was the one that spoke this time, trying to convince himself that what he was seeing was real, and not his mind going insane, (So…that is what you meant…I always did wonder…)

Morgan nodded, Neva blurting out something suddenly, (But…it might not have happened like that! It's not fair that you had to die just so we-)

Morgan quickly swooped over to her, putting an icy finger on her sister's lips, (Shhh...Neva, tell me, do you dislike how your life's turned out?)

Neva touched her belly, glancing down at it for a moment, and then shook her head no. Morgan smiled, withdrawing from her, (Good… Please though, don't worry about me…I'm happy, as long as you're happy. I have no regrets about what I did…)

(But…I miss you.) Neva whispered out, so quietly that even Mewtwo had difficulty picking it up. Seeing the tears begin to from in her eyes, he quickly held her from behind, for comfort.

Morgan smiled, (I know…I miss you, too. But I'll always be here…and I'll watch over you, and your mate, okay?) She said, glancing at Mewtwo, and then at Neva's abdomen, (…And of course, I'll keep a close eye over my nephews and niece as well.)

Neva and Mewtwo blinked, catching onto what she'd just said. They, including Mew, had not been able to tell the genders of their children yet…but Morgan, being knowledgeable in many ways after death, had. The couple grinned, looking at each other quickly. They were having two boys, and a girl! They nuzzled gently, and then looked at Morgan, whom was smiling happily at them. Then, she began to fade away.

Her blue eyes glittered, her feline body beginning to disappear, (I have to go…this is goodbye…for now. We'll see each other again, someday…)

(Farewell Morgan.) Mewtwo said his goodbye.

Neva looked at her sister sadly for a moment, not wishing her to leave. Evidently though, that was the way it was to be. The dead could not dwell on the living, she couldn't help but think, (Goodbye sis. …I love you.) She said the final words quietly, feeling as though they had to be said, for lack of them being uttered when her sister lived.

(I love you, too, Neva…) Morgan whispered, and then raised her voice, (Well, goodbye you guys.) And with that, she vanished completely.

For a few moments, Mewtwo and Neva stood there, not knowing what to think about what'd just occurred. Neva though, snapped out of it quicker, and reached down, picking a few of the flowers. She'd bring them home and press them, using them as a reminder of this place.

She was certain this wouldn't be the only time she visited… Then, she silently turned to Mewtwo, hugging him firmly, and in a second, they disappeared…and returned home…
