After the worldwide success of the game, the way the world is governed changes drastically. The global government now controls not only the public life of its citizens but also their private lives. Their primary focus is on categorizing individuals to meet the growing demand for talent and personnel in the nine designated societal classes. This intervention begins long before a child's birth, starting at the moment couples register their marriage. Whether couples decide to have children, adopt, or not have children at all, these decisions are meticulously recorded in the system.
Upon conception—whether through natural means or genetic engineering—every fetus is registered in the country of conception as early as one week old. From that moment, they are carefully monitored to ensure they will survive and contribute to replenishing the workforce of their assigned class. Upon birth, newborns receive a series of vaccines to protect against infections and minimize health risks. They are also implanted with tiny microchips that store personal data, such as birth certificates, to ensure constant monitoring and protection.
Parents and the community collaborate in monitoring the young ones, with the data gathered from these efforts assimilated into the system. This data helps categorize the children into the roles most suitable for them within the nine classes. At the age of 6, children are formally tested to assess their interests and aptitudes, determining their strengths, weaknesses, and initial psychological profiles. This information is then stored in their ID chips, accessible via augmented reality as a "status window." Career counseling programs are also introduced to help guide children toward their future roles.
While this advanced technology benefits most children, not everyone enjoys such privilege. In a secluded and abandoned place, a barely conscious child floats in a tank alongside others, all of whom were illegally created through genetic modification. These children are unregistered, without citizenship, and invisible to the system. While those under the system's care experience comfort and protection, these unregistered children know only hunger and abuse.
Tears fell from her eyes as a distant memory resurfaced. The ivory-haired woman, now living in luxury with the person she loved, gently wiped them away. Despite her life of comfort, she knew it was borrowed and not truly her own. She couldn't help but wonder why she had chosen a life built on lies—one that could destroy her at any moment.
Hitsugaya hails from the province of Junrinan in the 1st District of West Rukongai. There, he lived with his grandmother and Momo Hinamori. As a young child, Hitsugaya was somewhat of a brat who enjoyed eating watermelons and teasing Hinamori. She affectionately called him "Shiro-chan," to which he would reply by calling her "Bed-wetter Momo." Despite being younger and much shorter than her, Hitsugaya always felt a sense of responsibility to protect her.
Even at a young age, Hitsugaya began to hear the calling of his Zanpakutō spirit, Hyōrinmaru. However, he never mentioned this to anyone, assuming it was merely a recurring dream and not fully understanding its significance.
When Hinamori left to become a Shinigami, Hitsugaya pretended to be happy for her, but it was more of a front than his true feelings. People in his neighborhood were scared of him, even though he had never done anything to them. Only his grandmother, whom he called "Granny," and Hinamori were unafraid of him. He often wondered whether his "cold as ice" personality was due to his appearance or his behavior. After five years, Hinamori's visits became less frequent. He noticed her hair had grown longer, and she seemed more focused, as if she had a clear goal in life. Meanwhile, his grandmother was growing frailer.
One day, while at the market, Hitsugaya encountered a rude shopkeeper who treated him with disdain. Suddenly, a woman (Rangiku Matsumoto) stepped in, yelling at the shopkeeper, "Hey! Don't treat customers like that. Show some respect!"
Turning around, Hitsugaya accidentally bumped into Rangiku's chest and fell. Startled, she yelled at him, "What are you lying there for, crying like a baby? Stand up like a man!"
Though embarrassed, Hitsugaya quickly shook it off and ran away. That night, he had a vivid dream of a massive, icy blue, serpentine dragon with large wings and an echoing voice. Unlike before, when the dreams were vague, this time the dragon seemed to be calling its name. However, Hitsugaya couldn't hear it clearly as the voice was muffled by strong winds, and he woke up in a cold sweat.
When he opened his eyes, he saw Rangiku standing in his room. Surprised, he asked, "What are you doing here?"
She replied, "Stop leaking your Reiatsu everywhere and get some sleep! You're making the room freezing cold, and your grandmother looks chilled."
Only then did Hitsugaya notice how cold the room had become, and how it was affecting his grandmother. Rangiku advised him, "You should become a Shinigami. A kid like you, with power this strong, needs to learn how to control it. If you don't, your power might end up hurting those around you, even your grandmother."
Hitsugaya hesitated, unsure of what she meant. Rangiku placed a hand on his chest and asked, "Do you hear a voice calling you? Once you find that voice, you'll understand how to control your power. But to do that, you need to become a Shinigami."
Later, Hitsugaya told his grandmother about his decision to become a Shinigami. To his surprise, she was happy for him. "I've always known you hold everything inside because you didn't want to leave me," she said gently. "But staying here has been hurting you, and that hurt me too." With her blessing, Hitsugaya left to follow his own path.
Due to his natural talent, Hitsugaya quickly entered the Shinigami Academy and graduated early despite his age. Hinamori still called him "Shiro-chan" out of habit and felt a sense of responsibility to protect him. However, after Hitsugaya achieved his Zanpakutō's Shikai and became recognized as a full-fledged Shinigami, she began calling him "Hitsugaya-kun," keeping a promise she had made.
After graduating, Hitsugaya joined the 10th Division under Captain Isshin Shiba and rose to the rank of 3rd Seat. One day, Hitsugaya reported to Isshin, "Captain, a Shinigami in Naruki City died two months ago. The Gotei 13 has been investigating the incident, but since then, two more individuals have died in the past month."
Isshin, concerned, responded, "I'll go investigate the cause myself."
Rangiku tried to offer assistance, but Hitsugaya stopped her, saying, "We're not strong enough to help him with this." Later, he witnessed Rangiku's frustration at Isshin for going to the Living World on his own.
With hard work and dedication, Hitsugaya eventually became the youngest captain in the history of the Gotei 13. He also became friends with Jidanbō Ikkanzaka, the West Gatekeeper, who taught him the local customs and rules of the city.
After some time, Rukia arrived at the Squad 13 barracks, greeting her seniors respectfully. The air grew awkward as her colleagues exchanged glances, unsure how to act around the infamous adopted princess of the Kuchiki clan. Despite this, Rukia remained composed and proceeded to her new assignment as the trainer for new recruits and interns—although she herself was a newly recruited, unranked Shinigami.
'Why did Lieutenant Shiba Kaien assign me this task when I'm still unranked?' she wondered, but she accepted her duty without question. That's how life had always been for her—unexpected, sometimes unfair, but something she had to adapt to in order to survive. It was her core principle, the mindset that had kept her alive all these years—from being an abandoned child to life in the orphanage, then in the lawless district of Inuzuri (Hanging Dog), to the Kuchiki manor, and now, here at Squad 13.
Throughout the day, Rukia trained alongside her juniors, sharing information about the world, Soul Society, and the role of the Gotei 13 as protectors of the balance between the realms. She was serious and patient, guiding the recruits even though she still considered herself new. From afar, Haru, ranked 20th in the squad, watched her closely. He remembered vividly how she had stood her ground in front of his childhood friend Emi, who belonged to a clan even more powerful than the Kuchiki clan back in the day. Despite knowing Rukia wasn't a born noble, Haru couldn't shake the feeling that she carried herself like an aristocrat. She even resembled Captain Kuchiki in her mannerisms, and this made him question who she truly was.
As Haru pondered, Captain Ukitake called out, "Rukia, could you come to my office for a moment?"
Rukia blinked in surprise, but quickly made her way to the captain's quarters. "Yes, Captain Ukitake," she responded as she entered his office.
Ukitake sat behind his desk, a warm smile on his face. "Since Lieutenant Kaien isn't here, and most of the higher-ranked officers are away on missions, I'm going to need you to take charge temporarily. I'm headed to Squad 4 for a check-up."
Rukia's eyes widened. "Me, Captain? I mean… I'm unranked. Are you sure?" she asked hesitantly, surprised that such responsibility was being placed on her.
Ukitake chuckled softly but was soon overtaken by a sudden coughing fit. As he pulled a handkerchief from his robe, Rukia noticed the blood staining it.
"Captain, are you alright?" Rukia asked, her voice tinged with concern as she stepped forward.
Ukitake waved her off gently, still smiling despite his obvious pain. "Don't worry, Rukia. I've lived with this condition for a long time. Just part of the routine."
Rukia frowned but didn't press further. "Alright, Captain. I'll take care of things while you're gone."
"Alhamdulillah," Ukitake said, his voice still soft but firm. "And one more thing—please send the file on my desk to Captain Hitsugaya."
Rukia nodded, bowing respectfully. "Understood. I'll handle everything." then she added"... In sha Allah" a phrase she learned from her fellow shinigamis. She's trying her best to adapt to her new circumstance, a noble woman from a traditional Muslim family.
With that, Ukitake stood, his movements slow but dignified. As he left the office, Rukia couldn't help but feel the weight of the task ahead of her. She had been entrusted with this role, and though she had doubts, she wouldn't let the captain down.
Ichigo's soul was suddenly separated from his body, causing the boy to fall backward in shock. As he sat on the ground, wide-eyed, his surprise turned to confusion when his now-lifeless body abruptly opened its eyes and spoke.
"Nice to meet you. My name is Ichigo Kurosaki, and my motto is 'early to bed, early to rise,'" his body said cheerfully.
Rukia grinned, amused by the situation. "Ah, don't worry. That's just the Gikon. Did you know 108 Shinigami scientists worked hard to create the perfect personality for them?"
Ichigo's scowl deepened as he angrily shouted, "A'uzubillah! Who is *that* supposed to be!?"
Before Rukia could respond, her Shinigami phone beeped loudly, alerting her of a new assignment. She glanced at the screen. "There's a Hollow nearby," she announced, tapping Ichigo on the shoulder. "We have to go."
Ichigo, still in a state of panic, looked back at his body. "That is *not* me!" he yelled, pointing frantically at the Gikon still inhabiting his body.
Rukia gave him an exasperated look. "Stop complaining. Let's go," she said, grabbing his arm.
Ichigo resisted, still shouting at his body as Rukia dragged him away. "Hey! Listen up! Go to my next class, and don't do anything weird!" he called out, trying to give instructions to the Gikon.
The Gikon in Ichigo's body waved enthusiastically. "You got it!" it said, grinning.
As Rukia pulled Ichigo along, his protests grew louder. "How am I getting dragged away by someone half my size?" he muttered, still struggling as Rukia continued pulling him toward the site of the Hollow.
