Destiny's POV
I made my way over to Gadget's workshop when I noticed a sign on her door saying 'Please Knock First' on it. I obliged and gently knocked on the door. "Come in" came a voice from the other side. I smiled and opened the door. The moment I stepped inside, I was in utter shock and amazement. Right in front of me was a sort of makeshift looking plane. I also saw tools of all types, shapes and sizes. There were so many carts and contraptions I couldn't count them all. You've gotta be kidding me. She actually built all of this? I thought with amazment.
I soon took my eyes off the plane and noticed Gadget sitting in a chair with what looked like a blowtorch in her hand and a metal face guard on her head. I assumed that she was probably working on something. But she quickly spun her chair around and saw me. "Oh, hiya Destiny" she greeted with a wave and a smile. "Hi Gadget. So…you actually built that plane?" I asked in awe. "I sure did. Built it entirely out of spare parts from a case that Chip, Dale, Monty, Zipper and I solved about a year ago."
She then proceeded to tell me all about how she met Chip and Dale and how they stopped this villain called Klordane from stealing all the gold from the New York City Reserve and a very expensive ruby in order to clear the name of longtime NYPD detective Donald Drake and his pet K-9 Plato who were framed by Klordane for trying to steal the ruby. She even talked about how they fought and successfully beat their now arch nemesis, Fat Cat, a notorious crime boss whose many attempts to also take over the world have backfired. She also mentioned some other minor villains that they fought as well, but one that stood out to me was Dr. Norton Nimnal.
I think I'd heard that name before. I remember seeing him a few times at the local science fair as a kid. Sometimes he would even bring his goofy looking son along too, but I didn't see him too much. Always out with a new invention, it was the usual act of inventing, testing, failing, and going back to the drawing board, only to go through the same thing again the next day. But I just stood in awe at her story. The fact that they were not only to single handedly able to stop a criminal mastermind from potentially taking over the world but also stopping other criminals that the police couldn't, was just incredible.
"W-wow. That's amazing. I never thought it was you guys who stopped Klordane." I said in awe. "Anyways, so what brings you here Destiny?" Gadget asked, changing the subject. "Oh, uh I just thought I'd stop by and see what was in here." I responded. Gadget flashed a sweet smile at me. "Well by all means, feel free to look around, just be sure not to touch any of my new inventions. I still haven't tested them yet." I nodded and turned my attention back to this Ranger Plane that I saw earlier. It was unlike anything I had ever seen before.
I took some time to study its features. The cockpit was made out of a soda bottle, it had two bright orange wings on the side and at the top was one giant red balloon that was reinforced by some straps to prevent it from floating away. I than faced back towards Gadget. "Hey Gadget?" I asked. "Yes Destiny?" "Would you mind if I sit in your plane? I've just always been fascinated with airplanes and other flying vehicles." Gadget smiled back at me and snapped her finger and said "Say, how bout I take you for a spin in the Ranger Plane." I perked up at her suggestion. "Absolutely, I'd love that. It's been a while since I've been on a plane, but I've never been on a plane like this." I said with excitement. "Great. I'll go get everything situated and we'll be good to go." The mouse stopped what she was working on, fetched her flight goggles and readied the plane.
"Here, you can sit next to me" she suggested. I nodded and got into the plane. It was actually really comfortable. It even had seatbelts which I quickly fastened by the way. Best to keep myself safe, I thought as I waited for Gadget. There was something about this female mouse that reminded me of Dr. Emmet Brown from the Back to the Future movies since they were both ambitious inventors who could build the most amazing things out of the most random things they could find. I used to watch those movies all the time with my parents. My parents. I felt a frown form on my face, but I quickly brushed it off as Gadget hopped into the driver's seat. "Alright Destiny. Is your seatbelt on?" I gave it a tug and nodded. Gadget smiled. "Alright. I'll start er up and we'll be flyin' in no time." She said.
Gadget switched on the controls and I felt the plane start to come to life. Within a few seconds, we off the launch pad and took to the skies. I have to say, as much as I enjoyed my first flight on an airplane, to me this was something very special. Never have I dreamed that I would be sitting in a plane built entirely out spare parts. It just felt more enjoyable. I had the wind blowing in my face and the view was simply breathtaking. My thoughts were interrupted by Gadget. "Well, what do you think Destiny?" "Oh I think it's spectacular." I replied. "Well, I'm glad you're enjoying the ride." Gadget beamed.
My hair blew in the wind as we soared through the clouds. Looking down at the various cars and people that roamed about the streets. We flew around Central Park and proceeded to the city. We passed many different buildings like Grand Central, the Chrysler Building, the Empire State Building, and even the Statue of Liberty. When we got to Lady Liberty, Gadget successfully landed the plane on the statue's head, giving us a grandiose view of the New York City skyline. I couldn't believe my eyes. I didn't think I would ever get this good of a view. I just wish I could draw the scene that was in front of us. Towers of all sizes being painted by an elegant mix of yellow and orange by the reflection of the slowly setting sun.
I took a moment to bask in the beauty of the spectacle before nodding at Gadget to take us back in the air again. She nodded back and lifted the plane off the statue and off we went. Once we were done with our little adventure and were heading back to Central Park, I felt my eyes getting heavy and I eventually drifted off into a peaceful slumber and gently rested my head against Gadget.
Gadget's POV
After a few hours of flying across the city, I prepared to turn around and head back home. While we were on our way back though, I felt something on my shoulder. I glanced over to see Destiny asleep and cuddled up next to me. I smiled at her when I felt tears welling up in my eyes. She was so precious and yet so young. She felt like a sister to me. I bet her parents were probably worried sick about her. But right now, I was focused on getting back to headquarters.
A few minutes later, we made it back to base and after I landed the plane and I lightly tapped Destiny's shoulder. She opened her eyes and yawned a bit. "Destiny, we're back." I whispered.
Destiny's POV
I opened my eyes to see Gadget looking down at me with a smile. She grasped my hand and helped me out of the plane and made sure everything was turned off before she eventually led me to the door and turned off the lights to her workshop. We walked through the hallway, my eyes still trying to keep themselves open. I let out another yawn as Gadget and I made our way to the living room where Chip, Dale, Monty and Zipper were sitting down and watching the tv. I couldn't tell what it was, but I was just way too tired to even care. I did notice out the corner of my eye that Dale was about to jump off the couch and sprint towards me, but he was thankfully stopped by Chip. I heard him let out a groan and he slumped back down on the couch in defeat. I really wanted to stay and chat with him, but I just couldn't.
I felt Gadget wrap her arm around my shoulder and lead me to my room. Once I was all tucked in, I felt Gadget give me a kiss on my forehead fallowed by a 'goodnight' and then drifted off to dreamland.
Chip's POV
After Gadget closed the door to Destiny's room, I whipped my head around and glared at my brother. He'd just insisted on talking up a storm to her but luckily Gadget and I stopped him before he could any closer to her. But my glare quickly turned into a frown as I saw that he had a guilty look on his face. I understood he just wanted to talk to her, but she was so tired. She had a really long day, and she needed some rest.
