Chapter Two.
Josette Marie Williams was born on April fourteenth of nineteen and forty six in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother and father were young and they had to bring her and they placed her in a card board box and some blankets around her to keep her warm at night. And there was a note that was written by both of Josette's parents. 'My name is Josette Marie Williams. I can not take care of her.' And after her parents dropped her off and they left her at the front door of the Orphanage, they left her behind and they did not want to be found. That poor kid.
One of the staff members of the Orphanage opened the door when they heard the baby crying in anguish and loneliness and her tears were streaming down her face that her parents had left her there. The woman looked down and her eyes widened as saucers with such total surprise. "Oh, you poor little baby. I will bring you in here and I will take very good care of you. All right?" She said when she picked up the box with the crying Josette in side. The woman would take really good care of her as her own daughter. That was a long time ago.
Hours later, Josie was sitting on the train when the train instructor was walking by, checking for their tickets were accurate for their stops. She waited very patiently all up until she heard the instructor. "We are now arriving in Collinsport, Maine." He said. Josette sighed in relief and she stood up from the cushioned chair and she picked up her one and only suit case. She felt the train slowing down. The instructor walked up to her and he looked at her. "You have your self a good night and have a good trip, Miss." He told her with the nod of his head and a smile.
Josie looked up at the instructor and she nodded. "You have your self a good night as well, sir." She replied to him. And just then, the train stopped just before she climbed down from the train and walked a long the platform. The smell of the perfume of Jasmine that Josette was using was a pretty strong smell to go around. She saw the Collinsport Inn in the distance so, she power walked over to the Inn. She hoped that she would stay there for the time being and also hoping to get a job there.
In side the Inn, Josie was in the lobby and she looked around to see if there were any one there. And she turned and she saw a woman in the restaurant, writing in the menus from her boss. She looked up and she saw this woman. "Well, hello there, ma' am." She said. Josette gave her a shy smile. "My name is Maggie Evans." She said when she introduced her self. Maggie held out her hand to her.
Josie placed her suit case on to the floor at the counter and she shook her hand. "Hello there, Maggie. My name is Josette Williams." Maggie's eyes widened when she said what her first name was. Josie chuckled softly. "Every one calls me Josie for short." She told her. She noticed the look on her face of total surprise and curiosity. "Um, is there some thing wrong, Maggie?" She asked her with concern from the look on her face.
Maggie composed her self and she gave her a nice smile. "Oh, your first name sounded so familiar when you said your name." She said. Josie raised her eye brows with total curiosity when she asked her why her first name was very pretty familiar to the waitress. "You see, Josie." She said shyly. "Your first name was named after Josette DuPres-Collins, who lived here and she died when she jumped over from Widow's Hill over where Collinwood is over at the top of the hill here in town. She was pretty well known around Collinsport here." Maggie added.
At her words, Josie's eyes went wide as saucers and her eye brows were raised all the way up to her hair lines. "Wow." She whispered in shock. "I never knew that my name was named after her." She said when she lifted her hand and she ran it over her hair in shock and surprise. "Who was she really exactly? Can you tell me some more about her?" She asked her. Now, Josette really wanted to know about her. And what really happened to her.
Maggie chuckled and she gave her a loving smile. "It happened a very long time ago. Josette DuPres was from Martinique and she came her by boat to live a new life in an other country. She met a man by the last name of Collins. They married after and then, she felt very lonely some time shortly after that and she decided to commit suicide at Widow's Hill because the people didn't like her. That's what my father, Sam Evans told me about and that's all that I could tell you there, Josie." She told her the little story about what had happened to Josette DuPres-Collins.
And just then, Mr. Wells came walking in to the restaurant. He saw Josie talking with Maggie at the counter. He came over to the counter. "Is Maggie bending at your ear, ma' am?" Mr. Wells said when he was teasing Josette.
Josie turned around and she laughed softly with a chuckle. "Oh, not really, sir. You see, Maggie told me about the story of Josette DuPres-Collins." She told him. "My name is Josette Williams. And I'm from New York." She said when she introduced herself to him.
Mr. Wells' eye brows raised with interest. "Oh? And why was she telling you the story of Josette Collins. Hmm?" He asked her. Maggie was watching them while she worked. "My name is Wells. Every one calls me by Mr. Wells." He added when he shook her hand in greeting.
"When I introduced myself to Maggie that my name is Josette Williams, her reaction that I saw was that she was speech less, sir." She said.
Mr. Wells lifted his hand and he rubbed his chin. "That is pretty interesting in deed, Miss Williams." He said before he looked up at the waitress. "Uh, Maggie, you can clean up and you can go home for the night. And I will see you in the morning." He told Maggie. The waitress agreed with her boss and she cleaned up the counter and the dishes before she went home for the night. She knew that she had to tell her father that there is in deed an interesting person had now moved to Collinsport.
Josette picked up her suit case before Mr. Wells had Josie follow him and she was at the lobby counter. "And what can I do for you, Miss Williams?" He asked her and he gave her a good smile.
Josette looked at him shyly. "Um, sir, I was wondering if I could get a room and I was also wondering if you have any opening jobs for house cleaning here?" She asked him.
Mr. Wells was in deep thought about this for the moment. And then, he spoke. "Well, Miss Williams, I suppose you could start job the here." He said. Josie's eyes lit up at his words. Maggie was happy for her. "I know that you need your sleep after that long trip up here from New York. And how about I can get you in here first thing tomorrow morning at around nine. Will that be good for you, Miss Williams?" He asked her. Mr. Wells really wanted the help around the Inn.
Josette was pretty very pleased and thrilled that Mr. Wells had just gave her the job of doing house cleaning. "Oh, Mr. Wells. I'm very happy about this. I will see you in the morning." She said when Mr. Wells turned around and he gave her the keys to the room on the top floor. Josie shook his hand in thanks before she picked up her suit case and she walked up the stairs to the room.
And when she walked over to the door on the top floor, Josette placed her suit case on to the floor and she took the keys in her hand and she unlocked the door. And she walked in. And after she went in, Josie closed the door behind her and she placed her suit case down on to the bed. It was a pretty long day for her for certain. She looked around and she looked out of the window. "This is a whole lot better than New York. But I need to find out of who gave me this letter from this town itself." She said to herself.
She would find out soon enough of who gave her that letter in deed.
