Dragon Prince Season 6 is officially out today and so is this chapter. Enjoy it.
Rebirthday Part Two:
(Ten Years ago)
Viren was riding through the forest. He was returning to Katolis on a long journey from collecting ingredients for dark magic. He could see the castle in the distance where loud forest sounds made his horse unsettled. "Easy, easy," he urged impatiently. But to his left, he saw the bushes shaking about. He narrowed his eyes, dismounted his horse and pulled out his staff. "Whoever you are, come out now!" No one came out. "If you are Robbers, I will have you know I am the High Mage of Katolis,"
"Oh, we know very well who you are, Lord Viren,"
Viren felt his heart drop, yet he remained firmly on his feet. He watched as four cloaked, hooded men appeared into view, each of them bearing a primal tattoo over their eye. "Who are you men?"
"Let's just say we are mages like you,"
"You bear the mark of the primal symbols. You are elves,"
"No, we are men," Castor was the first to pull his hood down, revealing human ears. His three other brothers did the exact same thing. "But like you, we are also casters of dark magic,"
"Who are you four and why should I care?"
"My name is Castor and my brothers and I represent a cult of men who wield magic which should have belonged to our kind aeons ago. We resent elves and dragons for how they treated us as lesser beings and seek to distribute our gifts amongst the rest of humankind. And we know you, Lord Viren desire a spell that can help you kill the Dragon King,"
Viren could not deny his words; he lowered his staff. "So, you seek to aid me and my king killed him?"
"'Aid' is not the word. The king is harbouring someone we are after and henceforth, we are to negotiate that perhaps you would be interested in a deal,"
Viren's eyes furrowed. "Who is that you're after?"
(Present Day)
"We made a deal," Castor's voice brewed with hatred as he spoke to Viren. "In exchange for helping me and my brothers capture that girl, I would give you the spell you needed to kill the king of the dragons."
"It was your job to get out of Katolis with the king's stepdaughter without being seen," said Viren. "I had no choice but to betray you guys to cover up my involvement,"
"You're lucky it is only because of your daughter that you are still alive," Castor snarled. "Because if it weren't, I would kill you within a second."
"You stay away from my daughter," the former high mage warned.
"You're forgetting you have been dead for two years and you don't have your staff, which you foolishly left behind on the Spire. Do anything to me and I will do with you however I please. And if you wish to redeem yourself for your betrayal, you will help me capture Princess Caroline as well."
Viren crossed his arms. "I never thought of a reason to ask you this question, but I do now. What is it about that girl you're so obsessed with?"
"As if I would answer that question to you. Just remember, we are only working together because of Claudia. In the two years we've worked together, I've taught her more spells than you have done and I have come to consider her like one of my own," Castor enjoyed watching green emitting from Viren's clenched jaws. "And I look forward to cooperating with her for what's to come." He stood up and turned to leave.
Viren wouldn't let him have the last word. "What is coming?"
Castor twisted his head. "You'll see. Oh and by the way, you're not the only one we've brought back from the dead," Viren gulped as he walked out of sight.
In the courtyard, Willow prepared to leave on Pyrrah with her supplies. Ezran came before her, with Serena and Bait beside him. "You guys are all packed. I want you to bring the best well-trained bodyguards in Katolis,"
"Ezran, Pyrrah and I will be fine," Willow assured him.
"If Caroline is taking Soren and Corvus with her for protection, you're gonna have protection too,"
"Seems fair. But I'm not the one who was targeted all those years ago,"
"That may be so but I will not lose either of my sisters,"
Two pairs of feet marched into their presence and they saw two armoured warriors appear in their presence. The man had short shaggy hair with matching bristles and he twirled a halberd between his flexible fingers. "Gahidin Bahirdilhin at your service," he bowed.
The woman had long hair in braids and a bow and quiver full of bows slung on her back.
"Akyalisa Diancerina, the best archer in the kingdom,".
"They're some of the finest fighters," Ezran introduced. "They will be the ones to accompany you,"
"Such a fine dragon," Gahidin attempted to stroke Pyrrah but she growled.
"My dragon is not used to strangers," Willow said. "And no one touches her unless I say you can,"
"Apologies princess," he bowed.
"Still such a graceful creature you have as your companion," Akyalisa complimented. Pyrrah liked her comment and purred into her hands, earning a scratch. Gahidin frowned.
"Looks like Pyrrah likes her more than you,". Carol joked as she, Soren and Corvus came on horses.
The archer mounted behind the princess and the halberd wielder climbed up behind her. "Safe journey, you four," Ezran bid.
"Make sure to go gently," Carol reminded Pyrrah.
"And not too fast," Gahidin begged.
"He's scared of heights," his partner in front of him whispered to Willow.
"I heard that!" he complained.
"And he doesn't like it when people see him scared,"
"I heard that too!"
Everybody laughed and he growled in annoyance. Pyrrah stretched out her wings and graceful flaps, she carried the three riders up into the sky and away from the kingdom. "See you in two days Ezran," Caroline bid. "And don't worry, I'll be safe,"
"I know," Ezran said. But his swan and glow-toad could sense his body shaking with anxiety. He watched as his elder sister and their friends rode off on their journey to Xadia.
Caldor appeared behind him. "I worry for her too Ezran but she will be fine. She is not the same girl my brothers tried to kidnap all those years ago,"
Carol and her party made their way through the streets passing by several market stalls. And the people watched as she drew another magic insignia into the air. "Susurrus Distans,". She whispered a secret message into the spell and the insignia turned into a bird of cloudy white which shot across the sky. "There. The message will reach Caelus and he will meet us at the Border with the Sky Patrol,".
As they came to the outskirts of the street, two heads poked up from behind a barrel and two pairs of eager watched the High Mage and her bodyguards depart the city. "Once she gets back for her big day, we're going to see her Pliph,"
Viren sat by the chrysalis, waiting patiently for his daughter. He watched the being inside the cocoon moving about, wondering what kind of creature would emerge from it. "Hey Dad!" he turned to see his cheerful daughter reappearing.
"Claudia," he stood up, coming over to hug her.
"Sorry for taking so long. I do hope Castor wasn't boring you to death,"
"No, we were just talking about things. Where might he be by the way?"
"I…do not know. But who knows? He's probably on the lookout for his brother Tellus,"
"Tellus?"
"Yes. He's been collecting supplies for the long journey we will have ahead,"
"So, to refresh we have one month to find a magical prison that's been hidden for centuries. And then, we have to figure out how to free the ancient being trapped in that prison, or else, I will die?"
"Well, to be clear, it's 30 days. Just to make sure you don't think it's a 31-day month, because..." she chuckled. "...we don't get the extra day,"
Her father sighed. "It's hard to imagine things getting any worse,"
"There's someone else I need to meet," his daughter spoke up suddenly, her face blushing red. "I want you... to meet my new boyfriend! Terry!" she laughed gleefully as a green-haired fellow with glasses and wearing brown leather and a white cotton top appeared into view. Viren squinted. He was an elf.
"Yes... um... hello. The name's Terry... uh, like she said," The Earthblood elf nervously waved his hand whilst Viren stared on in disbelief, watching his daughter extend her arms for Terry and then hug him. Her boyfriend continued speaking. "It's short for Terrestrius, heh. Very traditional Earthblood Elf name. Bit old fashioned, you know, but my friends call me Terry, and you..." he inhaled sheepishly. "Can call me Terry? Heh. May I call you Viren? Lord... uh... sir... Claudia's dad?" he offered a hand to shake, but all he received as a response were a pair of crossed arms and eyebrows. Viren did not like him one bit. Still, he wouldn't give up on impressing him. "Very well. Anyway, your daughter's amazing. I mean, y-you know that you're her dad. And, like, she brought you back from the dead. Wow! Right? Heh. Well. Ahem," he bowed. "Trees to meet you. Heh," he backed up towards Claudia, who held his hand with joy. "I think it went well,"
"It sure did." Claudia kissed his cheek, and her father closed her eyes, feeling grossed out.
Viren desired answers. "When did you guys start…"
"We met a year ago on my journey with Castor,"
"I was journeying across Xadia looking for adventure, or perhaps looking for love. I was once in love with another human but…she refused my advances." Terry pressed his hand to his heart. "Broke my heart so much but your daughter changed me. She's so amazing,". He moved to kiss her but her father stopped her.
"Do not do the lip thing in my presence," he ordered sternly.
"Of course, of course," Claudia respected. "Kissing to a minimum. Now if you'll excuse us we're going on a nice night-time walk. Castor should be back soon with Telmar,"
"Claudia please…" Viren begged.
"Don't worry. I'll be fine. I've got Ter-bear to protect me." Claudia kissed his cheek again, grossing her father out again. "Oh right. Sorry. See you later,". With an eager grip on Terry's hand, she picked up the corrupted sun staff stolen from Lux Area years ago and waved it, opening an entrance. "See you soon!" They disappeared into the open, leaving him safe inside the cave with the cocooned being.
Standing upon a tall rock watching the giddy teenage couple dash off into the night on a late date, Castor eyed Claudia carefully. "You really certain we need her?" Tellus appeared beside him.
"We do. We have accomplished much with her and it is because of her, that we brought back more than just her treacherous father," as he spoke, two cloaked figures appeared from the darkness, pulling back their hoods. He smiled and walked over, embracing them. "How was your first day alive, brothers?"
"It feels as if I didn't have a sword through my chest," Larius cackled. "How I cannot wait to see the look on that Sunfire elf's face,"
"Easy for you to say. You didn't crash face-first after plunging from the sky," Delmar groaned, giving
"Oh don't worry brother," Castor soothed. "You'll have your revenge soon enough. Are the Riders ready?"
"They are," Larius offered a wicked grin. He led his brother to a look-out rock and down below they saw nine black dragons and looking up at them were nine clocked riders with hoods covering their heads. They wore masks that covered their faces and each mask was bestowed with a white star. "All that is left before they can set out is the completion of their swords,". Three of the riders were forging nine powerful swords.
"Once they are ready, they will insert purple and black jewels into their pommels and bestow them with star and dark magic," Telmar revealed a sword attached to his belt and pulled it out, revealing a blade glowing dark purple and black with the jewelled pommels. Our enemies will be no match for our weapons,"
"Good. War is coming to the Continent, my brothers," Castor pulled them together into a huddle. "And this time we will not fail. We will free our father,"
"For our father!" they cried out. "For Aaravos!"
As the sun rose the next day, a blue and white dragon soared through the morning, multi-coloured sky. Zym had grown so much over the last two years. And he could finally use human words to talk to all his friends. He spiralled upwards till he was high above the clouds and all he could ahead of him was the rising sun. He closed his eyes inhaling deeply. He loved to be in the air where he could feel true freedom.
Zym! Squeaked a little voice in his head.
Look down! Came another.
It's Carol!
Zym glanced down and saw three massive sky dragons flying just below the clouds. Two humans and three elves rode them. And a little Spectre dragon and human with winged arms flew beside them.
The group made their way to the Storm Spire that stretched high into the sky. They elevated up above the clouds until they landed right in front of the entrance to the lair of the Dragon Queen. Caelus and the two other Skywing levels dismounted their dragons with Corvus and Soren. They then watched as Carol and Ghost landed before them, the mage's wings turning back into arms. "Such graceful flying sweet Caroline," Caelus complimented. She smiled at him.
Zym landed before them. "You're late,"
"A high Mage is never late Prince Zym," Carol sent a serious face at him. The tension floated between them until both friends burst out laughing and the dragon leapt towards the high mage and she threw her arms around him.
"Oh, Carol! It's so good to see you."
"It's good to see you too, Zym. But tell me, where are the three little fuzzballs?"
We're here. Adorabelle, Adorily and Adorapy squeaked, and they jumped into her offered hands, nuzzling her face.
"I hope you three have been good."
"They have been well-behaved," said Zym. Ghost purred, and he roared gently back before they started playing tag. Footsteps approached them and they turned to see Ibis and his maturing apprentice Yonas walking down towards them from the flying platform above the lair. Smiles formed on the humans' faces.
"It is good to see you again Caroline," Ibis hugged her and then Yonas embraced her too.
"It is good to see you too, Ibis and Yonas," she happily greeted her mentor and friend.
"Are you wearing the clip Ibis gave you?" Yonas asked. With a simple smile, Carol twirled around slowly and showed them the clip inserted in the braided part of her hair. "It suits you,"
"That's what I said," said Soren.
"I trust you all had a safe journey?" Ibis asked.
"We sure did," said Carol. "Now, if you do not mind we must speak to the Queen,"
With a simple smile, Ibis opened the stone doors and the three elves and three humans with the two dragons and three Adoraburrs followed them inside. They went through the great hall and entered through the arched doorway into the crystallised floral lair where the queen awaited them. They bowed, and Zym bounded inside to lick his mother's face.
"Welcome dear friends. It is so good to have you with us," Zubeia said happily.
"Such a pleasure to visit you, Your Majesty," Soren bowed again.
Zubeia giggled. "Such a fancy haircut you've got there Soren,"
"Why thank you," he patted his frock. "I just got it done,"
"Please don't talk about your time at the hair salon," Corvus begged.
"I was told by Caelus that you are here on business from King Ezran?" the queen inquired.
Carol didn't need a yes. "Queen Zubeia, my brother the king is holding a festival for all the five Human Kingdoms to celebrate together. And he wishes you and Zym to present yourselves." Zubeia froze. Zym jumped for joy. "I know this may seem disconcerting, but Ezran believes as our lands are now at peace, it would be a great opportunity for Katolis and the other kingdoms to meet you and Zym in person. They deserve a chance to meet the Queen and Prince of the Dragons officially, so they see dragons and elves in a whole new light,"
"I am not certain about this," Caelus spoke up. "I do not doubt the king's intentions, but I fear the people of Katolis may be unsettled,"
"That is what the High Council of Katolis said," Caroline acknowledged. "But I believe with all my heart that this is a critical step to ensuring peace and unity between our peoples. My brother and sister believe so too and so does Caldor,"
"Mum, please agree to this," Zym begged.
"Zym, you cannot be thinking of going to Katolis just to see Ezran and Willow," Ibis wiped his forehead. "What if something were to happen to you?"
"He will be safe," Soren assured. "Perhaps Caelus could come to Xadia,"
"No, Sir Soren. "No, Sir Soren, I won't go to a place that doesn't fully accept elves." Deep down, fear consumed Caelus.
"It's a perfect opportunity for humans to meet more elves. I promise you Caelus I will guarantee your safety," Carol vowed.
"It is decided Caelus," Zubeia announced. "Zym and I will journey on King Ezran's request to this special celebration. And with your permission, I wish to take you and some Skywing elves from the patrol to accompany us,"
"It will be a pleasure, my queen," Caelus bowed humbly. As much as he disliked it, he trusted their human friends to guarantee their wellbeing.
"In the meantime, you must all rest after your long journey," the queen insisted. "Ibis, prepare them some well-needed food,"
"At once, my queen," The Skywing tutor bowed.
"You are all welcome to stay here for the night," she said kindly
"Let's play!" Zym wagged his tail like a puppy. The Adoraburrs on Carol's shoulder jumped about begging her to play with them.
"Hold it, Zym…" his mother urged. "Caroline must rest alongside her friends,"
"Your Highness…" Corvus spoke up. "We would like to leave later today,"
Caroline blinked. "What? But Corvus, it's been a long journey,"
"I don't want you to go," Zym whined, bounding over to her. Ghost pawed at his face; they always loved to play together. The Adoraburrs pursed their lips, begging Carol with their eyes not to take them away yet.
"It is the king's request," the tracker said. "He says it's extremely important you get back as soon as possible,"
"Well then, if the king says you must get back as soon as possible, you must do so," Zubeia said. "I am sorry Zym. But within a few days, you will see everyone again. For now, you must rest young travellers."
Ezran was relaxing on the balcony with his companions when a booming roar disturbed his peace, much to his irritation. Being king was an awful lot of hard work and there were times when he wished he could have picked a regent so he could enjoy the privileges of being a teen and having fun. He looked up and saw Pyrrah descending towards the castle. Quickly, he dashed outside and the magnificent dragon landed before him with her riders. Willow dismounted her and embraced her brother. "So how did it go?" he asked hopefully.
"They all accepted. Aanya and Grark are training their dragons for the show as we speak. And my bodyguards did a perfect job," she looked at the warriors dismounting her steed and gifting her a stroke of thanks.
"Brilliant," Ezran said happily. "Sis, I know it sounds too forward but it's what Dad would have done,"
"I agree. I just wish he could be here to see all of this. And mum too,"
"Me too," Ezran sighed. "I miss them. But we have no time to dwell on the past. We've got the rest of a big celebration to finish,"
For the next few hours, rest and silence were amongst everyone. After a much-needed rest and Ibis's best cooking, Caroline spent every possible moment she could play with her devoted companions. They flew and soared about the clouds, their friends and Zym's mother watching them every moment. They sat outside at the very top staring at the everlasting sky. "I never get tired of this view," she sighed.
"I do wish Felix was with us," Zym groaned, Ghost lying beside him missing the Sunfire fox too.
"I miss him too. But he's spending much-needed time with his family and has been helping with Queen Janai's special surprise for my aunt,".
Zym was sparked with interest. "What kind of surprise?"
"You'll have to wait and see," his surrogate caretaker teased.
"Carol!" called the voices of Soren and Corvus. They leaned down and saw them waving.
She sighed. "I'm afraid I must get back home,". Adorabelle, Adorily and Adorapy sighed. She held them tendering in her hands. "Would you girls like to stay a bit longer with Zym?" They jumped for joy and the prince roared with approval.
"Then stay you shall," Ghost huffed. "Don't worry Ghost. We'll all be together again later this week," she settled the little fluffballs back on Zym's head and they made their way back down the stairs to their friends.
"Safe travels back home," Zubeia wished. "You can expect us precisely on time,"
"Thank you Queen Zubeia. I know how agitating it must be for all of you,"
"Agitating? If anything, it's exciting," she cheered. She reached down her snout and allowed the human who had brought her baby back to her to stroke her face. "Take care and send my best wishes to your brother and sister,"
"I will, Your Majesty," Carol gave Zym a quick hug and then said goodbye to Ibis and Yonas. The dragons and their closest elf friends watched as the Sky Patrol carried the humans away from the Spire and across Xadia to take them home.
By the time they had reached Katolis, it was nightfall. The three travellers and Ghost were just riding back into the courtyard when total silence drew their attention. There were no guards, no lights illuminating from windows, and no signs of movement. "That's strange," said Carol, dismounting her horse. "There's no one here,". Behind her back, Soren and Corvus blinked. "Hey guys…what can you make of…" she turned around but gasped. They weren't there. "Guys? Guys? Soren, if this is some sort of a joke…"
Carol! Ghost roared.
Before Carol could react, she was blindfolded and pushed forward. "Soren, this isn't funny!"
"Relax bestie…just trust me," Soren pushed her towards the giant wooden doors and Corvus opened them. Still, Carol saw nothing but darkness. Ghost wrapped himself tighter around her neck. The men led her down the hallway through the main doors into the ballroom and…
Carol felt the blindfold pulled off her face and before she could react, sparkles were raining on her head, and people surrounding her. "Surprise!"
She jumped. Decorations adorned the walls and candles of fancy-coloured flames lit from the braziers. "Wait? What?". Before she knew it, her siblings appeared from the crowd and embraced her from both sides.
"Happy Birthday Sister!" they said together.
Carol felt an overwhelming sense of joy. "I can't believe this. Is this why…". The gleeful siblings nodded at the audience and they began singing.
Have a mystical, magical birthday
Have a wonderful, whimsical birthday
Have a fun and fantastical birthday
With wishes and kisses and laughing and love
She gasped. "Oh. This…this is…this is amazing,"
"We just wanted you to have the best birthday ever," Ezran cheered. Pyrrah roared from the window.
"Why else did we have to get back as soon as possible?" boasted Soren. "Now, let's party!". Everybody clapped. Corvus instantly handed Carol a cup of her favourite fruit drink, and Barius served countless platers of cakes and pastries, including jelly tarts: the siblings' favourite. Caldor waved some magic moon powder into the air and made the ceiling look like a sky of countless constellations which awed the audience. The children started goofing around, begging for the birthday girl to perform some magic tricks which she did.
With moon magic, she made illusions of dragons fly about their heads. Caldor was proud of his pupil. With sky magic, she did zappy tricks and made ice sculptures; she even created an ice-skating rink for everyone to skate on. Soren kept on slipping, much to their teasing entertainment. Finally, with sun magic, she performed a fire dancing show which impressed the audience. It was now time to open presents. Everyone watched her eagerly as she sat down and opened her first gift which was from Willow, a vase of her favourite Xadian flowers which would never die nor lose their fragrance. From Ezran, a royal satchel made of the finest leather bearing the crest of Katolis and a golden charm bracelet of various jewels. From Caldor, a brand-new blank journal in which she could write about future adventures with a special magical quill that would never run low on ink. From Soren, she received a special dagger with a blade that could extend, from Corvus, a red velvet scarf and a brand new blue travelling cloak. The other gifts included magical ornaments, new books and special items of clothing. Afterwards, a feast commenced with Carol's favourite dishes of roasted meat with potatoes and vegetables. She allowed Ghost to nibble on her meat bites and Willow poured a whole jug of gravy onto a large dish of pork for Pyrrah. She swallowed it in one gulp and a huge belch bounced off the hall walls making everybody laugh.
Sorry. She apologised.
"Guys, you have all made and ruined my day," Carol said emotionally.
"Just wait till you see what comes next," Willow said ecstatically. "To the Dragon Inn!". The guests and the overjoyed siblings escorted the High Mage out of the castle, into the village and towards the largest pub in Katolis.
A dragon sign hung above the door and through the large wooden doors were several chandeliers with paintings hanging everywhere and more birthday decorations. When they entered, dozens of citizens awaited them with a big music band and dancers just waiting to perform. Carol felt her heart exploding in her chest. "Come on, sis! Dance with me!" Ezran pulled her inside towards the dance floor and everyone followed in after them. Musicians blew flutes, plucked strings, and banged drums. There were twirling and spinning and in the centre, the siblings danced around in a circle. Corvus, Soren and Caldor eventually joined in. Ghost flew around in circles, disappearing and appearing again to spook the children playfully. They drank, they swung on chandeliers, they played games; it was a night they wanted Caroline to remember.
Poking through the window was a ten-year-old ecstatic kid with short brown hair and dark eyes. He wore a sleeves jacket over a white top with blue pants and dark boots. His dragon, berry-coloured with red eyes, poked in after him. "Isn't she just amazing?" the boy said.
"You say amazing kid, we say spoilt and unworthy," mocked a cruel voice.
The boy turned around to see four tall teens with green faces. "You're jealous because she's special and you're not,"
"That girl doesn't belong in royal society," one of the boys mocked. "She thinks just because she has magic she's better than that child king,"
"You take that back!" the kid shouted. "Caroline has magic! She's amazing! She's a hero!"
"She's nothing but a pampered magician." the shorter girl snaked her fingers through her hand to show off. "A step-princess,"
Pliph growled and blew fire at her making her scream. One of the boys instantly grabbed his neck. "Hey, let go of my dragon!" the kid tried to snatch him back but the other boy and taller girl held him back. "Let go of me!"
Caroline was taking a moment to herself with Ghost when she saw the struggle through the window.
"I think it's time we teach this kid a lesson," the girl jeered. Before she and the other guy could harm the dragon or the boy, Carol burst outside at once.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"None of your business, step-princess," the tallest girl: Victoria mocked.
"Let him go!"
"Says who?" Victoria's boyfriend Lewis taunted. Suddenly Ghost zapped right in front of him and he screamed letting go of Pliph. Using the distraction, the boy stamped the feet of his captors: Zara and Jonathon and he rushed into Carol's offered arms.
"I suggest you four leave before I blow you away," Carol warned. Her four bullies wouldn't move. "You asked for it," she drew a magic symbol. They screamed and fled. "And don't come back, you meanies!"
"Carol!" Ezran burst outside. "Is everything okay?". His sister pointed to the retreating bullies; he fumed. "I'll straighten their behaviour if it means I have to put them on community service,"
"I'm sorry," the kid started crying. "I didn't mean to ruin anything,"
"Oh, don't be sorry. You've done nothing wrong." Carol bent before him and wiped his tears away. "There. You see. You've nothing to apologise for."
"I just really wanted to see you, High Mage."
"Well, why don't you join the party with us?" Ezran offered.
"Yes, please. If High Mage Caroline doesn't mind,"
"Of course not. Come in," taking his hand, Carol led him inside and they joined the party again. "What's your name, kid?"
"Names's Benjamin. But everyone calls me Benny or Benji. Well, I least that's what I'd like to be called,"
"Well, it's lovely to meet you, Benji," Carol offered her hand and the ecstatic kid shook it eagerly.
"You're my favourite hero. I've read all about your adventures, how you forged a connection to primal magic and everything. Is it true you're connected to the Moon, Sky and Sun Arcanum?" Carol simply smiled and showed him the three Primal symbols running down her arm; he marvelled at their bright moon-white, sky-blue and sun-yellow pigments. "Is it your goal to connect to all six of them?"
Carol giggled. "That's a complicated question. I've just always been interested in magic,"
"Is that your Spectre dragon?"
"Yes, this is Ghost," Carol allowed him to climb down her arm so Benji could stroke him. He purred and licked him. "What's your dragon's name?"
"His name's Pliph. I found him in the forest one day when I was out playing. He liked my little berry tarts and he wouldn't stop following me ever since,"
"Well, he's a beautiful dragon," The kind teen stroked the berry-coloured dragon who scratched his side to the soft gentle touch of her fingers. Ghost purred and seconds later the two little dragons started playing with each other.
"You are so lucky to have magic, Caroline," Benji complimented. "You can do all sorts of things. I don't know if you've noticed, but I've watched all of your magic shows and I am your number one fan.". Carol blushed a bit, feeling a little embarrassed. "Thank you for saving me from those bullies,"
"Don't let them scare you. They bully me all the time, but I don't let their taunts get me down,"
"Hey, Carol!" Willow called. "Time for the cake!" she pulled her to the centre, and they watched as Barius and his assistants carried an enormous five-layered cake from the kitchen. It was vanilla-sponged topped with fruit-flavoured icings and decorated with strawberries and sweeties. The eighteen stripped candles were lit up and everyone watched her blow out the candles and they clapped and cheered. Carol distributed slices and handed the first two to her siblings and then the next two to her number one fan and his dragon. Bait took a huge bit out of the base layer much to everyone's amusement and Serena nibbled on the top part much to their owner's embarrassment.
They shared one final toast and did one final dance before it was time for the special night to end. The guests left one by one and Benji was the last one to go.
"Thank you for letting me join in with the party," he thanked deeply, giving her a tight hug.
"It was lovely to meet you. Shall I walk you back home?"
"Uh no…I can make my own back thank you. I hope to see you again,"
"You can always come and visit the castle if you'd like," Ezran offered.
"Really? Oh, thank you King Ezran," the boy hugged the young king much to everyone's surprise. He realised what he had done. "Forgive me, your Majesty. I forgot myself,"
"No. Don't apologise. You can always come and visit whenever you'd like,"
"Thanks. Come on Pliph," the boy picked up his dragon and dashed into the streets, waving goodbye to the royal siblings. But as Caroline waved, a dark feeling weighed down on her shoulders and her large smile seemed to falter. Ghost nuzzled her face and purred. Willow heard him and saw her sister's depressed face and bit her lip.
It was very late at night now. On her balcony, Caroline was staring into the distance, looking at the bright moon, nearly full. Ghost was in her arms, purring as she stroked him. They heard loud knocking but she didn't bother answering the door. "Carol?" Ezran gently opened the door and Serena peered through the gap.
She's on the balcony. She snorted. She looks sad.
The siblings pushed the door quietly open and they came inside. "Carol?" Willow asked. "Are you okay?" she wouldn't turn to them.
"We just wanted to make sure you're alright," their brother said.
"I'm okay," she replied with a broken voice, not turning her head to them.
The siblings exchanged glances. They came to stand beside her. "You know you can talk to us," Ezran said soothingly. "Is this about Raylan?"
Carol pursed her lips. "To me, this day will always be the anniversary…of the day he left,". She hung her head and Ghost purred, prompting her to hug him tightly.
Bait in Willow's arms croaked sadly. "You still love him, don't you," she said. Although a part of her was angry at Raylan for abandoning her sister like that and breaking her heart, she knew in her heart that their love was pure and strong.
Her big sister stared again into the night sky. Whenever she gazed upon the moon, no matter what phase it was at, she would always think of her elven true love. "I don't even know if he's alive,"
Ezran would not see so heartbroken like this. "He is alive,". He placed a hand on her shoulder. "And wherever he is…" she turned to him. "He loves you too,".
Tears rained from Carol's face. The three siblings stayed where they were, thinking about their elf protector who had left them two years ago. Deep down, they knew he was still alive. But one question remained. Where was he now?
A young elf stared up at the moon on a tall tree in an isolated forest. A little cuddle monkey was in his arms, squeaking affectionately. "Thanks, Stella. Your cuddles always make me feel better,". The little primate squeaked and hugged him again.
A low but audible roar echoed from the sky. A mystical dragon of pure moon iridescence descended from the sky in flashes of light. The elf leapt down to stand before the dragon as he gracefully folded his wings.
"Did you deliver it over safely?" he asked.
Yes. Roared his other companion.
"Thank you," he patted his cheek. He looked to the distance, imagining the castle where his love dwelled. "I love you, Carily. And I haven't forgotten about you. I never will. I just hope you haven't forgotten about me."
And that's the first episode of Season Four done. What did you all think? I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you so much everyone for the ideas and the reminders of them in the reviews. Look forward to seeing you all soon in the next chapter. Keep sending more ideas. And please also send ideas for the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 fanfic book as I want to do it a bit differently compared to the movie. It would be most helpful. In the meantime, see you all soon.
