Chapter 6: He called the Batman

Date: Tuesday 18th June 2013

Time: 8:15pm

(The Next Day at Ewen High School on the Sports field…)

Rita was having a class doing their sports lessons on the field. Most of the students were the Ultras. There were some other students on the bench either minding their own business or watching the field.

Rita blew her whistle to the girls sitting on the floor. "All right, stand up, line up please."

All the girls stood up and stood in lines and looked at Rita as she spoke of them. "You have a big week coming up. A big month, actually. Probably the biggest month of your lives. Prom and then graduation. Are you excited?" She asked all the girls.

All the girls were smiling and laughing, showing they were indeed excited for this month.

"Probably all have your dresses, have your dates by now." Rita said.

Chris looks at her gym teacher with slight suspicion. Rita turns and walks to Chris.

"What about you, Chris?" Rita asked, as she looked at her.

Chris came to her face, smiling at her.

"Who's the lucky guy?" Rita asked.

"Billy Nolan. You don't know him. He doesn't go to this school." Chris answered.

"Are you gonna get him a boutonniere? Or are you just gonna pin a bloody tampon to his lapel?" Rita asked.

The girls including Chris were a little taken aback by this. Chris composed herself and she sighed with an eye roll. "I so don't need to hear this."

Chris try's to walk away but before she could even take her first step Rita stopped her.

"You're not going anywhere." Rita said immediately before she walked Chris back in loon, turning and walking to Sue…

"What about you, Sue? Are you and Tommy busy campaigning to be Prom King and Queen?" Rita asked.

Rita stands in front of Sue. "I would have voted for you... not now." She said.

As Rita walks away from Sue try's to keep a straight face but deep down, she felt ashamed by what she did to Carrie.

"You all did a shitty thing yesterday. A really shitty thing. And one of you had the audacity to post a video." Rita said with slight anger. "Somebody made a video of it?"

The girls began to start whispering to each other, either having no idea or acting dumb a video of the incident was posted on the internet…

Feeling a little pissed off, Chris said. "This is bullshit."

"That's it. Thanks to Miss Hargensen, you can run suicides." Rita said.

All the girls groan in annoyance and displeasure.

Chris shakes her head. "I'm not doing it."

"That's up to you. That's up to all of you, but anyone who stops running is suspended. And if you're suspended, you don't go to prom." Rita said.

The all girls looked defeated and had no choice but to listen, all of them not wanting to miss prom because they have all been dreaming about that forever. Rita soon turned and looked straight into Sue's eyes.

"While you're running, I'd like you all to think long and hard... about what it would be like to be Carrie White." Rita said, as she looked at Sue.

"What about the Bat?" Sue asked.

"Fuck. my phone dropped and was destroyed by the Bat. I got mad." Chris said.

"You saw the Bat, right?" Rita asked.

"Yeah." Sue said, as she nods yes.

The girls started to run.

(At the front entrance of Ewen High School…)

A car arrives outside the school entrance, Carrie and Margaret being inside. Ever since last night, Carrie looked so defeated and submitted as she didn't bother arguing back anymore.

"I'll be okay, Mama." Carrie said.

"I'm going to leave work early today and pick you up after school." Margaret said.

Carrie steps out of the car and shuts the door behind her. She definitely didn't look happy or pleased hearing her mother was gonna pick her up right when she left school. She started walking to the school.

(Later at the Gym's Sports Field…)

All the girls were still running around the field for minutes. They all felt so tired and they all felt their legs burning and felt like they couldn't take it anymore but kept pushing on forward fearing that they wouldn't go to prom if they stopped.

"She can't do this to me." Chris said in an exhausted voice due to too much running.

"Just let it go, Chris. We're almost done." Sue said also in an exhausted voice from too much running.

"Then every day this week? All because of Carrie White? Like hell I will." Chris said, as she stopped running.

Rita immediately saw Chris stop running and told her. "Keep moving, Hargensen. Keep running or you're not going to prom."

Chris having enough of her, as she believed, slowly turned to her. "Fuck you!"

All of her Ultras friends stared at Chris in shock not believing that Chris just had the guts to say that to Rita. As Rita stared at her student in shock hearing her say that to her. Rita never thought Chris would curse at a teacher when she didn't like something.

"This is child abuse." Chris said.

Rita having enough of Chris and not liking what she just said to her, walked and came face to face with Chris. "What did you say to me?"

"I'm not going to run another goddamn inch because Carrie White got her period and was too stupid to know what it was." Chris said with anger to Rita's face and looked at Sue smiling.

Rita looked at Chris with disgust and in disbelief. She couldn't believe Chris could be this cruel and heartless. She couldn't believe Chris was this stupid to not realize what she did was wrong. Very wrong.

"There is no Bat!" Chris replied.

"What?" Sue asked while looking at Chris in shock. She has never seen Chris this cruel and heartless before. There wasn't a single ounce of regret on her face. Chris was just smiling, almost like feeling proud for what she did yesterday to Carrie. That evil smile made her look like a real life villain from comic books.

Now done with Chris Rita officially decided and said to her. "You're suspended. You're out of prom and you're out of my class. Now." Rita turned away from Chris to resume the class.

Chris not giving up and feeling confident said. "No."

"No?" Rita said with anger immediately turning back to Chris and looking directly at her.

"You can't decide that. She can't do this to us." Chris said with a little desperation in her voice.

Rita, hearing the slight desperation in her voice and seeing Chris will not win this argument, smiled a little and told her. "Goodbye, Chris. The rest of you, keep at it." She told the other girls while walking away.

Chris turned to Tina. "Someone could die of dehydration. Tina, you have a heart condition, right?"

Tina looked at Chris, not sure what to do.

"If we all stick together, they're not going to suspend all of us. They're not going to keep us all from prom. There would be no prom." Chris said, now getting desperate, as she looked at the twins. "Nicki, Lizzy?"

The Watson Twins looked at each other and slightly shook their heads.

"Let's go, ladies!" Rita called out again in a loud voice, ignoring what Chris was saying.

"Heather?" Chris asked Heather to hide her face with her cap and slightly look away from Chris.

"This is bullshit! We didn't do anything wrong." Chris now said with anger and desperation, sounding like she wanted to cry.

It was then Chris started to realize she's truly alone in all this. Not another girl among the group was budging an inch.

"All right, let's go." Rita said now feeling annoyed by Chris.

Chris in one last attempt walked and took her arm to Sue. "Right, Sue? You're with me on this, right?"

Chris was sure Sue would listen to her since they have been best friends for years and were always side by side no matter what. Chris thought maybe Sue would be able to convince the other members of the Ultras to join her and stop Rita.

"Come on. Sue." Chris said, seeing the slight hesitation on Sue.

But Sue only had an emotionless face seeing the way Chris is acting and seeing Chris was not gonna admit they did something wrong. When Chris tried to pull Sue with her, Sue pulled back and shook her head. Sue makes Chris let go of her and goes back running. Chris looks stunned by this seeing for the first time Sue abandons her.

"Come on." Sue told the girls.

Rita blows her whistle. "Keep going, ladies."

Chris watches Sue and the everyone in disbelief as they continue their running while Chris was completely alone and was now suspended from prom with no one to help her. Chris felt so confident that everyone would follow her like they always did so they couldn't get suspended, but instead she got the complete opposite of what she wanted and now she got herself in this mess with no way out.

But Chris wasn't about to give up, she never does. She may have lost now, but will get them back later on.

"This isn't over." Chris said.

There was a new hatred growing inside of Chris. A type of hatred that was so dark and dangerous.

"This isn't over by a long shot. That's Carrie White." Chris said.

Chris soon stormed off the field, shedding her tears while the other girls kept exercising. But brewing deep within that sadistic mind of hers, a plot of revenge was slowly developing…

(Inside Ewen High School…)

Due to her experience the night before and Carrie implanting the idea in her head that she wouldn't remember anything, she was completely clueless as to what actually happened. Thankfully, she turned around just in time to stop herself from running into a certain boy she'd already run into before.

Carrie in her casual shy tone, as she and shocked walked down the hall, to their lockers, only to find them vandalised with the words: "The Bat Is Here!" spray-painted in silver.

"What the- The Bat?" Carrie asked.

"The Bat?" The student boy asked.

Carrie turned to them.

"I don't get it." The student boy 2 said.

"The Bat? Who is that?" The student girl asked.

Carrie turned to them.

"He's called the Batman." The student girl 2 said.

"Batman." Carrie said.

"Batman? But he died." The student girl said.

"Yeah. Batman saves Gotham City for one year later." The student girl 2 said.

As Carrie quickly went off to the bathroom, as they had been excused from Gym Class by Rita and Morton due to the tampon incident with Chris yesterday…

(Later in the Girls' bathroom…)

Carrie manages to find one of the girls' bathrooms in the school and goes inside quickly.

"Oh my God. Batman died." Carrie said sadly.

Carrie feels disgusted with herself, believing she is not normal and special. She was so tired and sad of Batman's death that has been happening for all these years of her life and feels like she wouldn't be able to last for much longer. She felt she wanted to break. That she would reach her breaking point soon. Nothing special ever happened in her life, she was just a poor lonely outcast girl that only knew what suffering was.

Carrie doesn't seem to realize that while she was staring at herself in the mirror miserably, it started to crack. It cracked more and more until the mirror snapped, snapping Carrie out of it. The pieces fell onto the sink below. Carrie looks a little stunned by what just happened…

As Carrie continued to horror wider and wider, her first real horror, seeing that she was already starting to get how to use this ability she had.

Then the bathroom door opens, immediately making Carrie drop the pieces back to the sink. She turns around and sees Heather walk inside the bathroom….

Not feeling comfortable being around her, Carrie picks up her bag and walks out of the bathroom while Heather watches her….

After leaving the bathroom Carrie walks downstairs and pauses.

"Batman. Wait a minute, Bruce Wayne. That's it. I'm going to the Library." Carrie said.

Carrie walked and quickly went off to the library. As Carrie walks straight to the library since she remembers Rita told her yesterday to go there instead on Gym class…
