10-Years Later
(Chapter5)
.
.
"Woah!" Danny spoke quickly as he did his best to avoid the guided lightning strikes of the rocker ghost overhead. He flew as fast as he could away from any lingering civilians with Ember hot on his heels.
"Where ya going baby-pop? The fun's just starting!" She taunted. Already she could feel her ectoplasm rushing and flame inside burning. Her plan might've been bust but at least her favorite phantom came out to play.
Said half ghost swiftly spun around to fire off a few pot-shots before resuming his stride. Ember snorted before raising her flame shield, curtesy of her guitar. Danny was going to have to better than that if he was going to take her down this time.
She ascended higher into the sky and began to rain down fire balls instead of lightening. Danny saw what she was doing and ground his movements to a halt. People were still running scared, and he had to protect them. He took a deep breath a wailed into the heavens.
Ember remembered that ghostly wail of his and how it shorted out her speakers in a previous battle. She was a little more prepared this time around and snapped her fingers. "Audio capture, now!"
As the sound wave extinguished her flames, her cronies got to work on stage. A giant purple speaker with a skull built into it poofed on front of the three green ghosts and the pressed the big red button situated on the back. A loud screech tore through the air and drew the remained of the ghostly wail in before it could reach their front woman.
"What the heck!?" Danny gasped as he saw his attack sucked into a violent spiral that came from the device. "Since when do you have a sound capture device?"
"Since I first felt your ghostly wail, that's when." Ember answered before dropping down on top of the speaker. A black cord launched from behind it and into her guitar as a wicked smile crossed her face. "Ready for round two?"
At one point in time a grin like the one Ember was giving now would've made his skin crawl, but now it all of a sudden didn't. It was almost as if the meaning and intent behind it had changed. She was challenging him and daring him to accept.
Oddly enough he smiled back, determined to take her on. "Hit me with your best shot."
"Isn't that what I'm best at?" She asked rhetorically. She turned the nob on her instrument. "I normally don't do covers but for you, I think I can make an exception."
Ember began to play as she normally did only this time the sound was different. Her guitar sounded a lot more traditional as opposed to electric. The change was jarring that it caught the snow-haired hero off guard. Although he shouldn't be nearly as surprised as he was. Ember was a guitarist so it made sense she could play even if the sound didn't fit. Then something shifted.
The guitar and sound went back to what he was used to from her and the band behind her began to join in. Crash cymbals sounded and other strings began to follow suit. "I don't think I'm very familiar with this one."
A new microphone appeared out of a puff of blue smoke in front of Ember, and she very quickly put her singing voice to work. The song wasn't her usual style, and the lyrics weren't anything he'd heard before. She said it was cover but a cover of what.
If we still have time, we might still get by
Every time I think about it, I wanna cry
With bombs and the Devil, and the kids keep comin'
No way to breathe easy, no time to be young
But I tell myself that I was doin' all right
There's nothin' left to do at night
But go crazy on you
Crazy on you
Let me go crazy, crazy on you, oh
Energy began to swirl in the air as a massive wave of blue flame arose from within the earth. It soured high into the sky and shot down at Danny like a bullet. He just barely managed to avoid it before it came back around again. Only this time there was a face attached to it, formed from the fire and flame. It roared and snarled like a dragon and wanted to turn him to ash.
"Oh nuts!"
Round two was going to be a doozy.
To be continued...
