Episode 9: Settling In
"So you want me to take this one under my wing?" Kyoko Kuremi said as she looked down at Erika holding a laptop, Noire and the Sistermon twins standing with her. "I would appreciate having an assistant, but she seems a bit frail..."
"My Digimon form is a lot tougher," Erika asserted. "That being said, I'm more of a supporting role than a front-line fighter like the nuns here..."
"Mirei says she's a very competent hacker," Noire spoke up. "So that would be a great help for cyber sleuthing, right?"
"It would indeed. Just keep in mind there are places you really shouldn't be hacking into," Kyoko advised.
"I know that. I'm not stupid," Erika grumbled. "So do I just crash on the couch here, or what?"
"You can for tonight," Kyoko nodded, "but I'll see if I can make room at my apartment for a more permanent sleeping spot, all right?"
"Fine," Erika sighed. "Just try not to treat me too much like a kid, please. I am a Champion-level Digimon, after all."
"Aww, but I bet you could use your cute looks to charm potential clients," Sistermon Noir suggested. "Just not too much, or they might take you home like that one man did with Salamon!" she giggled to herself at her joke.
"...To your credit, that one was almost funny," Ciel deadpanned. "I don't think that poor Salamon found it funny, however."
"Well, if you need any help getting settled in, let me know," Noire said. "Even if it's just something like blankets or pillows."
"We'll keep that in mind," Kyoko nodded, her smile suddenly fading as she felt mild discomfort, pulling at her bra underneath her jacket.
"Too small?" Erika raised an eyebrow.
"No, just a little constricting. Probably haven't broken it in yet, that's all..."
"Just be glad your bust isn't as big as Vert's," Noire said. "She needs almost daily massages due to back problems because of her chest, or so I hear..."
"Makes me glad I'm flat," Erika half-snarked.
*Laguna City Sewers*
"Hmmm..." Merlin said as he looked around the sewer den. Making a decision, he pulled out his phone and dialed... "My lady, I believe I may have found a place for us."
"All right, I'm coming out," Lilithmon replied, Merlin holding the phone out as a stream of 1s and 0s flowed out soon materializing into the demon lord's form. "...What is this place? A sewer?!" she said with her arms akimbo, clearly displeased.
"It doesn't smell that bad," Merlin pointed out. "And while not exactly luxurious, it's at least quite spacious- plenty of room to set up base, not to mention better hidden than that hotel suite..."
"That is true," Lilithmon ceded. "Well, I suppose beggars can't be choosers. Very well, we shall start setting things up here. First things first, we need to procure something for me to sleep on, and then a laptop computer to facilitate connection to the network easier... We can have DinoBeemon help with lifting a bed, once you find one."
"Very well, I shall canvas the area for furniture and computer stores," Merlin nodded. "I already have a few leads for the latter..."
"Good. I'm glad that I have at least ONE competent minion," Lilithmon sniffed. "By the way, I just realized that a certain pet project of mine isn't around..."
"Pet project?"
"Yes, that little stasis chamber I was carrying around until we settled in Lastation," the Demon Lord elaborated. "You did remember to grab that before you fled the hotel room, didn't you...?"
"Oh... oh dear," Merlin's eyes shrank to pinpricks.
"It seems I need to take back that 'competent' remark," Lilithmon growled... but then thought better of it. "Actually... hmmm, no, if the police confiscated that thing, it might actually potentially work to our advantage..."
"Er... how so, my lady?" Merlin said, still hunched down in fear.
"When it is ready, all I need do is send a command for it to awaken. Unless they have buried it deep underground, it should receive the command... and if my calculations are correct, even as an In-Training II stage, the police will be helpless as it rampages through their headquarters. Then all we need do is retrieve it once it breaks out completely..."
"Ah, I see. By destroying the police headquarters, the Guild and CPUs will be forced to pick up the slack, which may give us an opening to take advantage of their added fatigue," Merlin smiled sinisterly.
"At least you're not completely stupid. But I expect that new bed post haste, and don't expect to be joining me on it when we get it set up, understand?"
"Y... yes, my lady. Off I go, then..." Merlin quickly turned and left, simply grateful that the succubus had deigned to not punish him more severely...
*Forensics Lab, Police Headquarters*
"So what do you make of this thing?" the police commissioner asked as he looked over the stasis chamber that had been recovered from the villain's former hotel room, squinting to try and discern the creature inside.
"Well, it's got some kind of protection that scrambles any scanners we try to use on this thing," the NPC scientist sighed and shrugged in frustration. "It's likely a Digimon like the Demon Lord herself, but it's definitely emitting a heat signature... one that seems to be slowly growing."
"Growing... so is this an incubation chamber?"
"Most likely. And when it's ready, there's a chance that the chamber will open up on its own and release whatever creature's inside," the scientist hypothesized.
"Then I want this thing locked down as tightly as possible, until we can figure out a way to disable the protections so we can scan this thing and find out exactly what it is. Also, be sure to send a note to either Lady Noire or Oracle Jinguji about this," the commissioner ordered. "Last thing I want is this thing wreaking havoc and killing my officers!"
"Got it, Commissioner. I'll get some heavy chains and locks to keep this chamber shut tight," the scientist said.
"See that you do," the man nodded, turning and leaving.
Inside the stasis chamber, the Digimon twitched ever so slightly...

A/N: Sorry if this one seems a bit short, but my muse has been short-circuiting a bit lately...
