Arc Summary

A week had passed since the climactic trial that had cast Issei Hyoudou out of the underworld and the devil society. But now, the young devil was about to embark on a brand new adventure. Issei strode back into the hallowed halls of Kuoh Academy, determined to find a way to balance his newfound responsibilities with his school life. His solution? An ingenious twist: sending out soul-binding beings to perform his tasks while he continued his education.

But this calm didn't last long. A sudden mandate from the system compelled him to journey to Norway to investigate a mysterious occurrence. Seeking guidance, he turned to Azazel, who insisted he take along the knowledgeable Rossweisse from the Norse Pantheon. Rias, harbouring love for Issei, disapproved of this arrangement.

Arriving in Norway, they confronted a group of rogue Norse warriors who eventually spilled the beans about a girl wielding a Sacred Gear capable of slaying gods. Eager to help her, Issei and Rossweisse set out to find this enigmatic girl named Astrid. She possessed the awe-inspiring Midgardsomr Sacred Gear, a new and formidable power.

Their journey was swiftly interrupted by the rogue Valkyries of the Niflveig Syndicate. In the heat of battle, Astrid was cruelly snatched away by an unknown mastermind. The fiend behind the plot was none other than Loki, a formidable adversary Issei and Rossweisse had encountered before. As Astrid was whisked away, a chilling confrontation with Loki was set in motion.

With his analytical genius, Issei decided to train Rossweisse within his time-dilated dimension for two weeks, the equivalent of a single hour in the real world. Their bond deepened during this time, forging a powerful partnership.

Upon exiting the time-dilated dimension, they embarked on a quest to save Astrid from Loki's clutches. Along the way, they clashed with two more Valkyries before being separated. Rossweisse found herself in a duel with another Valkyrie. At the same time, Issei squared off against Fenrir, a wolf capable of slaying gods who had nearly taken his life in the past. Issei emerged victorious against the beast but then confronted Loki in a deadly duel.

In the showdown, Loki landed a surprise attack on Issei with a Dragon Slaying Sword, leaving the young devil on the brink of death. As Issei's life hung in the balance, he encountered a sinister and enigmatic version of himself known as Dark-sei. This dark persona revealed the dire consequences of the poison coursing through Issei's body. It also unveiled a chilling revelation: Dark-sei had disposed of the previous users of the Boosted Gear to ensure Issei's growth. With newfound abilities, Issei purged the poison from his body, activated his Scale Mail, and engaged Loki in a fierce battle that could shape their destinies.

Meanwhile, Rossweisse grappled with the strongest Valkyrie of the Niflveig Syndicate. In a pivotal moment, Astrid, seeing Issei as a father figure, awakened her Sacred Gear to save him from Loki's imminent kill. Rossweisse emerged victorious in her duel and rushed to find Issei.

In their climactic showdown, Issei and Loki pushed themselves to their absolute limits. Ultimately, Issei emerged victorious, sealing Loki in a containment vase. The battle had taken a toll on Issei, leaving him exhausted. The following day, Issei awoke in the same bed as Rossweisse, with their bodies intimately close. The events of the previous night had brought them closer than ever. They soon learned that Astrid's life was still in danger, prompting Odin to offer her a place in Asgard under the tutelage of Rossweisse's grandmother. They spent a heartfelt day with Astrid at the beach. As Issei watched Astrid play with a kitten, Rossweisse grappled with her hidden feelings for Issei.

Astrid was eventually taken under the wing of Gondul. With a heartfelt farewell, Issei and Rossweisse left to enjoy their last day in Asgard. During a bar visit, Issei was entangled in a brawl to protect Rossweisse from lustful men. Returning to their room, they shared their first kiss, sealing a new chapter in their relationship.

As Issei departed from Asgard, Rossweisse chose to stay and continue her training. With Issei's destiny still unclear, their paths diverged, leaving behind a trail of memories and unanswered questions.

Changes

As I mentioned in September, I was going to rewrite the previous chapters and change a lot of elements of the fanfic. This will only apply to those who have read the story when it was first published (March) to October. The overall story and dialogue stayed the same. However, they're elements that have changed. Such as the way I represent dialogue before it was like this:

Issei: "Fuck you, Rias," he snarls in a low and aggressive tone

But now I have changed it to this:

"Fuck you, Rias," Issei snarls in a low and aggressive tone

I have also integrated the system more into the story. As I left with the recent Arc, it became nearly non-existent, and I felt a bit of regret even introducing it in the first place. But now I have changed it and made it a bit more engaging.

Another change was the foundation of Issei's change, the Fallen Angel Trio, which had attacked and nearly killed him. I have changed them into Devils as it fits the narrative well and seemingly allows it to match the canon story. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. It could be because I haven't watched DxD since season 4 came out and had no knowledge of the Light Novel. I am still trying to figure out what sparked my interest to write this fanfic.
