As expected, with the amount of vervain in her system, the effects didn't wear off until the next morning. She woke up feeling a little groggy and didn't remember what happened from the day before. She had thought that she went on another bender with Klaus which resulted in the loss of memory. It would account for the throbbing in her head and why her mouth went dry. It would also mean there was a body to get rid of and blood stains to clean. But when she flipped on her side, the body landing there was warm, and though her eyes were closed she was breathing. She was asleep but alive. And that was a problem.

Also a problem, she was there, for Klaus to discover. She didn't know why or how but she knew that Klahs couldn't see her. Her first thought was to wake her up and get her out of there but she knew she wouldn't go willingly so her next best option was to sneak out before she woke up which wasn't going to be a problem. What was? Getting past whoever brought her there. She knew she wasn't on her own. Neither Damon or Stefan would have let her come on her own. Well Stefan wouldn't have. Damon wouldn't have let her come period.

Unless….she looked around and saw that she was in a very familiar place. One that she never wanted to be in again and had thought she'd never have to be, not for her a long time. But here she was, in Damon's bed. The same one she witnessed him profess his love for Elena. The same one she said goodbye to him. A goodbye that was meant to be forever. It left her with the question of how she got there. Then she remembered Damon and Stefan tracking her down in the Rocky mountains.

She touches the back of her neck as she remembers the sting of the needle Damon stabbed her with which was filled with vervain and knocked her out. She starts to panic. Klaus had to know she was gone by now and it wouldn't have taken him long to figure out where she had run off to. No matter how much she tried to convince him that she had put Mystica Falls behind her he had to have a sense that she hadn't completely forgotten about her life back home and the people she loved, namely one in particular. And if that was the case he was probably on his way to Mystic Falls. She had to do something.

She reached in her pocket for her phone but found that it was missing. The movement woke up and Elena.

"Looking for this." She looks up and sees Damon wavering it from his fingertips from the bathroom door.

She gets up and runs to him but he moves to the opposite side of the room.

Annoyed, she says, "Damon give me my phone."

"Why so you can call Klaus to come rescue you?"

"No, to stop him from coming back to Mystic Falls." She runs towards him again and again he evades her.

"Don't worry," Elena says, sitting up in bed letting the sheets fall to her waist. "Stefan already has it covered."

Ironically his news made her worry more. "Damon, what did you do?"

"Actually this one was all Stefan. Seems you and my brother share the same martyr complex."

"He's with Klaus?!" She looks between the two of them incredulously, "you let him go with Klaus?"

Damon shrugs, "it was his idea. He wanted to make it look like he was leveraging you with Klaus. Make it look like he was paying him back for what he did to Elena. Klaus took Elena away from him; he wanted to take something away from him."

"Klaus is smart. He'll make Stefan think he outsmarted him and just when Stefan thinks he has Klaus right where he wants him he'll turn the tables." She looks around Elena. "Stefan has no idea what he's gotten into with Klaus which is why I have to go back." She turns back to Damon. "It's the only thing that will pacify him and save Stefan."

"Stefan can take care of himself." Damon says walking towards the door.

"Not against Klaus he won't. Damon please. I'm begging you. Call Stefan and tell him to call off whatever he has planned. It's not gonna work."

"Sorry, can't do that."

"Damon," she tries to step out of the room but gets stuck. "What the hell?"

"Boundary spell." Elena says getting off the bed walking past her leaving the room. She turns to her when she's out. "Damon had Bonnie put a spell on his room like so you couldn't leave. Like the one she used to trap me in the house. He couldn't trust you wouldn't run back to Klaus and ruin Stefan's plan."

"That's what I've been trying to tell you. His plan won't work. Klaus will smell it out the moment he sees him. The only chance that Stefan has; the only chance that any of his have is if I go back."

"Stefan's plan will work." Elena says.

"And what if it doesn't?"

"I can't let myself think that way. Stefan will come through he has to."

"Why? Because he loves you?"

"No. Because getting you away from Klaus is the only way to get my sister back." She says and walks away.

Damon follows after taking her phone with him and she looks up at the door trying to pass it but is physically blocked by an invisible barrier. She slams her hand against the wall and turns around looking for a way out.

She walks over to the window and tries to open it but burns her hand. She hisses and turns her hand around to view her palms to see the burns and blisters slowly start to heal. She contemplated whether or not to try again but even if she could somehow manage to open it there was telling what other tricks Bonnie added.

She had to find another way out, for Stefan.

Stefan walks into the bar he was to meet Klaus on his request. One that Stefan was quite familiar with whether or not Klaus had knowledge of this he didn't know but part of him suspected that it wasn't a coincidence. It gave him a not so good feeling. But it was too late to turn back now. Klaus had already spotted him from where he sat at the bar so he had to continue on.

"Stefan, good for you to join," he looks behind him and when he doesn't seem who he expected he brings his attention back to him. "Though I see you've come alone. No matter, I'm sure our lost stray will find her way home sooner or later. Come sit, have a drink with me."

"Not until you tell me what we're doing here?"

"Well I know how much you loved it here back in your ripper days."

"Blacked out most of them. A lot of blood, a lot of partying. The details are all a blur."

"Well, that is a crying shame. The details are what make it legend." He turns his whole body around to face him. "Word was the ripper of Monterey got lonely, so he escaped to the city for comfort. It was Prohibition. Everything was off limits then, which made everything so much fun. It was a magical time, especially here."

"Is that why you brought me here? So we can relive your glory days?"

"On the contrary, we're here to see my favorite witch."

"Come to ask her why your hybrids didn't survive the night."

"If anyone can help with my hybrid problem, it's her. Though I suspect it would be even more helpful if she could see the one I created who didn't turn rabid or choke on their own blood."

"Well that isn't going to happen so."

"No matter. I'm sure she'll return sooner or later and I want to have some answers when she does so let's get to why we came here shall we?"

Klaus witch friend comes from out the back and a memory comes back to Stefan.

1920's: Stefan is in a car making out with a girl but then he drinks her blood and kills her. He gets out of the car, removes the blood from his lips, and walks down the street. He stops and enters a bar and pats the doorman on the shoulder as he passes. The owner of the bar who is on stage singing sees him.

"Guess who my eyes have just spied, ladies? Looking for a good time, Mr. Salvatore?"

"Save me a dance, Gloria."

"You gotta be kidding me. Klaus Mikealson and Stefan Salvatore, as I live and breathe."

"I remember you." Stefan says with recognition.

"You're Gloria. Shouldn't you be…"

"Old and dead? Now if I die, who's going to run this place, huh?"

Klaus interjects. "Gloria's a very powerful witch."

Gloria says as a way of explanation. "I can slow the aging down some. Herbs and spells. But don't worry, it'll catch up to me one day."

"Stefan, why don't you go and fix us up a little something from behind the bar?"

"Yeah, sure thing." He goes to the bar.

Klaus looks at Gloria. "You look ravishing, by the way."

Gloria could see Klaus coming a mile away. "Don't. I know why you're here. A hybrid out to make more hybrids? That kind of news travels."

"So what am I doing wrong? I broke the curse."

Stefan is using his super hearing to eavesdrop.

"Obviously you did something wrong. Look, every spell has a loophole, but a curse that old...We'd have to contact the witch who created it."

"Well, that would be the original witch. She's very dead."

"I know. And for me to contact her, I'll need help. Bring me Rebekah."

Stefan notices a photo on the wall and pulls it off to look at it.

"Rebekah. Rebekah is a bit preoccupied."

"She has what I need. Bring her to me."

Stefan looks up from the photo and turns around to show Klaus.

"What is this?"

"Well, I told you, Stefan. Chicago's a magical place."

"But this is me. With you." It's a picture of Stefan with his arm around Klaus's shoulders in the 1920s.

"Your questions will have to wait, I'm afraid." He looks at Gloria. "Rebekah doesn't want to keep her waiting." He focuses back in on Stefan. "Of course you could always accompany me. It might lessen the anger to see a friendly face." He says getting up and leaving the bar.

Stefan looked back at the picture and decided that he needed answers. He follows Klaus.

"Any word from Stefan?" It had been a few hours since he was supposed to meet with Klaus and she hadn't heard back from him and was beginning to get worried.

"I'm sure he's fine. He just doesn't want to blow his cover in case Klaus is around."

"It's been too long. He should have checked in by now. I'm gonna call him."

"And what if he's with Klaus. You're supposed to be dead, remember. Dead people don't make phone calls. I'm sure he'll call when he can."

"How can you be so calm about this?"

"He checked in when they got to Chicago. Stefan knows what he's doing."

Hearing that neither Elena nor Damon has heard from Stefan left Alyssa with an uneasy feeling and she knew that she had to figure a way out.

She took a step away from the door looking at the invisible seal that kept her in. Bonnie had sealed it to keep her in to keep her from leaving but she had to wonder if it stopped the fuzzier version of herself from getting out too. She decided to test that theory by seeing if she could transfer just a portion of herself. She started with her hand transforming it into a paw. She had turned into a wolf so many times over the last three month that it had become effortless. She stuck her paw out of the door, stopping before it got to her wrist. She pulled it back.

She moved away from the door removing pieces of her clothes as she stepped back. "Nothing you haven't done plenty of times before." She tells herself in anticipation of the pain that came with every single bone in your body being broken. "It'll all be over soon." She's out of her underwear and bra by the time she psyches herself into doing it and begins the transformation. She immediately drops down to the ground as the bones in her legs begin to break twisting itself into a different form.

Damon stops listening to Elena's plea to contact Stefan when he hears Alyssa scream that she tries and fails to be muffled as her bone breaks and runs upstairs and sees Alyssa naked in her hands. Her hands, arms, and spine twisting and reshaping itself. Her eyes are a golden brown when she looks up and her canines are protruding, she growls. He stands and watches as the final form of the transition

Elena runs up just in time for her to witness the phasing and Damon puts himself in front of her as she watches the white wolf that was her sister just seconds ago lower her head and bare her teeth in a snarl before taking slow and calculating steps towards the entrance. It stops at where the barrier for the spell starts and they both watch with bated breath as she crosses the line and the barrier. She looks up at them putting one paw in front of the other until she's through.

Damon acts as a shield between Elena and Alyssa's wolf though in this state she poses a bigger threat to him than she does to her. She makes no advances towards either of them but just watches them as she walks by them slowly and takes off running when she reaches the steps.

Back in Chicago, Stefan and Klaus are walking in a warehouse. Stefan is still holding the photo of him and Klaus.

"This doesn't make any sense." He says not remembering the time that he'd spent with Klaus back in his ripper days. "Why don't I remember you?"

"You said it yourself: that time had a lot of dark holes."

"If you knew me, then why haven't you said anything?"

"I'm a little busy right now. Memory Lane will have to wait."

"What the hell is going on? Answer me."

"Let's just say we didn't get off to a brilliant start. To be honest, I hated you."

Chicago 1920's: After Stefan spots he turns about to grab a glass of champagne but a lady takes it before he does. "Ooh. Please, help yourself."

The blonde lady with a British accent, "Oh, I always do." She gets closer, licks his lips and whispers in his ear. "Careful, Mr. Salvatore. You're still wearing your date. She's lovely."

She's about to leave but he grabs her arm. No, no, no. Who are you?" She puts her first finger to her lips to tell him to be quiet. She walks away.

Later in that same bar the woman who Stefan had seen earlier walks over to the table where Stefan and a few of his friends were sitting leaving her date on the dance floor.

"Sorry to crash the fun, boys, but some of us actually came here to hear the music. Not you."

Stefan apologizes and asks if they were offending her causing his friends to laugh.

She touches his face. "It would take a lot more than a baby face like this to offend me."

She's about to leave and Stefan stands up and grabs her arm. "Hey, hey. Are you ever going to tell me your name?"

"Sure. When you earn it. Now do Gloria a favor and stick a sock in it." She goes back to the dance-floor and continues dancing with the man.

Eventually, after some persistence on Stefan's part, the two of them get closer and Klaus gets to the part of the story when he finally meets Stefan. It was as Stefan and the women he now knew as Rebekah sat drinking blood from a woman as he sat at a table at Gloria's. After they've had their fill. Rebekah and Stefan kiss. He sees her necklace. It's the one he offered to Elena.

"It's beautiful." Stefan says admiring the necklace.

"A witch gave it to me. Supposedly it's magical."

"And is it?"

She looked at him with a tender look. "It brought me love, didn't it?"

Klaus arrives and catches her with Stefan. He walks over and tugs her up out of her seat. "It's late, Rebekah, we're leaving."

Rebekah shouts at him to get off her.

Stefan gets up getting in Klaus's face but asks Rebekah, "who is this guy?"

Rebekah comes in between them, "Stefan, don't. He'll kill you. He's a lot stronger than he looks."

Stefan is standing behind Rebekah, and has his left hand protectively on her shoulder.

"So this is the famous Stefan Salvatore." Klaus says. "I've been hearing so much about it. You're right, he does have funny hair. I'm bored. I want to go."

"Then go without me," She says, "I'm not your girlfriend."

"No, you're my sister, which means...You have to do as I say." He pulls her over to him so they're both facing Stefan.

Stefan looks at Klaus not remembering any of the details that Klaus just shared. "Your sister. So I knew another Original vampire."

"If you can't handle it, then don't ask." Klaus walks over to a number of coffins which contain Original vampires. Klaus opens one. Rebekah is lying dead in it with a dagger stabbed in her chest. He smiles and gently touches her face.

Stefan admits that he doesn't recognize her.

"Well, don't tell her that. Rebekah's temper is worse than mine." He pulls the dagger out of her chest.

"Time to wake up, little sister. Any day now, Rebekah." She's still lying there dead. He looks at Stefan. "She's being dramatic."

"Look, why don't you just tell me what the hell is going on? I mean, you obviously want me here for a reason, right?"

"Well, you have many useful talents."

"Do I?"

"In fact, I learned some of my favorite tricks from you."

Klaus is sitting in the bar on one side of a table with Stefan and Rebekah on the other. "So Stefan, enlighten me. What makes you worthy of an Original like my sister? She's a pure vampire and you're no more than a diluted bloodline."

Rebekah turns to Stefan, "Don't listen to him, Stefan. Nik's an elitist."

"Hmm. And where's the rest of your family?" Stefan asks.

"Well, let's see. Um...I killed most of them."

"But not all." Rebekah asks.

Stefan asks her, "And you're okay with that?"

"Well, we all had the chance to choose a side. I chose the right one, eventually." She touches Klaus's hand. A man stops by their table.

The man asks Stefan, "Where the hell's my wife?"

Stefan replies. "I don't know. I give up."

"You think you're so tough? Hiding in your bar, drinking your liquor? A telephone call to Chicago P.D. might set you straight."

Klaus amusedly cries out. "Ooh!" Him and Rebekah laugh.

Stefan calls a woman. "Lila? Lila, please. Come here for a second."

The man looks relieved to see hier. "Oh, thank God. Come on, we're leaving."

The man starts to leave with her but Stefan reaches his arm out to stop him and compels him.

"Oh, no, no, no, no. No. You're sitting." The man sits down next to Klaus and Lila next to Stefan. He takes off her glove and takes a pen knife from his jacket pocket.

Rebekah tells him, "don't be mean."

The man looks at Stefan and asks, "What the hell are you doing?"

Klaus looks on intrigued. Stefan cuts Lila's wrist and the blood pours into a champagne glass. Klaus and Rebekah smile.

"Thank you so much, Lila. Why don't you go and bandage that up?" She gets up and leaves.

Stefan compels the man. "I'd like you to join me for a drink."

He gives him the glass containing the blood of his wife.

"What kind of sick freaks are you?

"I said, drink!

He shakily raises the glass to his lips and takes a sip of his wife's blood. He coughs.

"I didn't catch your name."

"Go to hell."

Klaus laughs.

"Do you want another sip?"

He quickly changes his tune. "Liam. Liam Grant."

Stefan exclaims happily, "Liam Grant! Have another sip, Liam."

Klaus clinks his champagne glass on Liam's glass. Liam shakily raises the glass.

Stefan compels him to finish it.

Liam swallows all the blood in one gulp. Klaus laughs.

Klaus' phone ringing interrupts his story and he pulls it out. The number isn't saved in his contacts but he recognizes the area code and answers with a smile.

Stefan thought it might have been Gloria calling so he trains his ears on the call. It turns out not to be Gloria at all but rather someone he didn't want calling or even worse, she had figured out where they were and was on the way.

"I had to make a couple of stops for food along the way." Alyssa says looking down at the three unconscious people at her feet.

"Do hurry. I've grown rather bored in your absence."

She gets into a black sports car. "Stefan not the best travel companion?"

"I'm afraid he doesn't have that same devlish twinkle in his eyes." He says with a sly smile.

"Both me and my eyes will be there soon. Try not to suck Chicago dry without me." She hangs up and so does Klaus, still wearing a smile. He looks to Stefan, "now where we?"

"You were trying to convince me that we were best friends in a previous life."

"Ah yes, I was your number one fan." He says walking to the door.

"Why should I believe any of this?"

Klaus stops in front of a guardsman and compels him. "When she wakes up, tell her to meet us at Gloria's Bar. Then volunteer your carotid artery and let her feed until you die."

The guardsman nods.

"Where are you going?"

"You think I'm lying, Stefan. You and I knew each other. You trusted me with one of your secrets and now I'm going to prove it to you."

"How?"

"We're going to your old apartment."
