The address Klaus sent her was an old abandoned building. She checked the address again to make sure she was in the right place. She saw that he had sent her a number along with the address. She had no idea why Klaus wanted her to meet them there but she decided to check it out while she waited. There was an old musty smell to it that made her almost turn around but she was too curious to turn back so she looked at the numbers on the doors as she passed to find the right one.
It was near the steps leading to the front door. She tries the handle but the door is locked. Little effort is needed to break the lock due to her supernatural strength. She walks in the door taking a look around the one room apartment that was the size of Damon's bedroom. She decided to take a look around but there wasn't much to look at. She starts going through the draws and cabinets for any clues as to why Klaus wanted her to meet her there.
Her last attempt was the clothes but she didn't find anything of particular interest there and turned to leave when she saw a little discoloration on the wall that looked a little out of place so she pushed it and the wall fell out revealing a hidey hole. She turns on the light for a better look and sees it lined with bottles of liquor that was over seventy years old.
On the wall is a list with three columns and rolls of names. On the shelf next to it is a leather bound book that she takes as she leaves the closet.
She sits on the bed and opens it. April, 1922 written at the top left corner followed by the words Lexi found me last night. Dragged me off the train tracks. She thinks she can make me care again.
She turns the pages. June, 1924. Lexi's driving me crazy. More animal blood, more misery.
She realizes that the diary belongs to Stefan which meant this had to have been in his apartment at one point of time but what she couldn't understand was why would Klaus tell her to meet him here and turn the pages again.
Stefan: 1935. Cravings are there, but it's easier. Lexi's on to her next project: getting me to laugh.
She looks up from the journal and then looks at the closet with the list of names and she realizes that Stefan had written that those list of names on the wall and from the dates on the alcohol and in the journal they must have been names of people he had killed before he was the tortured Bambi drinking Stefan she knew.
It still didn't help her figure out why Klaus wanted her there or how he knew about this place but she was going to ask him when he arrived which she didn't have to wait for. He came walking in with Stefan minutes later.
Stefan looked at the open closet door and what she had in her hand. From the look on her face, he could tell she had already put two and two together but he couldn't tell what she was thinking. She stood up checking to make sure he was physically okay and then she asks,
"Someone wants to fill me in? Like why you wanted me to meet you here? How did you even know about this? It obviously means something to you?"
"I'm proving a point to Stefan whom I'm betting right about now is wondering why I brought him here. Your friend, Liam Grant, the one who drank his wife's blood...I never could figure out why you wanted his name. And then you told me your little secret. It was all part of your special little ritual."
"To write it down."
He gestures to the closet. "And relive the kill...over and over again."
Stefan looks at the closet and then him. "You believe me now?"
He walks over to the closet and checks inside and sees the list of names. Liam Grant's name is among them.
"I read your journal," Alyssa says looking at Stefan. "A Lot of it is written from your ripper days. Liam Grant is on that list of names Stefan. How could he know about any of this if you didn't tell him? Which you mean you knew him this whole time and you didn't say anything." She tosses his journal at him.
He catches it. "I blocked out a lot during those days."
"You expect me to believe that you can remember the names of you're victim's during these so called black outs but you can't remember partying with an original."
"Alyssa I swear I don't remember meeting him."
"But you believe him."
He was starting to.
"Well, now that we got cleared up why don't we go see if Rebekah has arrived shall we."
Alyssa gives Stefan one last look before walking out of his old apartment. Stefan and Klaus follow and together the three of them head back Gloria's who was waiting for them.
"Where's Rebekah?"
Klaus sits at the bar as she sits out two beers. "She'll be here. I can't just conjure her on demand." He takes a drink.
Gloria nods to Alyssa as she walks up. "Who's the girl?"
"Gloria is it? If you want to know the answer to that," she sits down taking off her jacket. "Then I'm gonna need something a little stronger than beer."
"Hanging around with these two I'm not surprised." She gave her a shot of tequila.
"Trust me it wasn't by choice," she downed the shot sitting the glass on the table. "My sister fell in love with him,'' she points to Stefan, "I ended up getting killed by said sisters doppelganger with vampire blood in my system. Wanted to die but my sister took it upon herself to feed me her blood forcing me to turn." She points to Klaus, "he then sacrificed her and my aunt who as it turns out was really my mom in a blood ritual to break the hybrid curse which failed and is where you come in a guess."
"You are gonna need something more than tequila." She said, pouring her something darker. She looks over to her. "I gotta ask. If they put you through all that why are you here."
"I did it to save someone who definitely didn't deserve the sacrifice but I did it anyway because... "
"You love him." She says pouring her another glass.
"Even knowing nothing good was going to come of it. Even knowing he was never going to feel the same way." She downs the second glass.
"We can't help who we fall in love with."
"Nor do we ever fall blindly." She takes smaller sips of her drink this time as Stefan and Klaus talk.
"So this is why you asked me to be your wingman? Because you liked the way that I tortured innocent people?"
"Well, that's certainly half of it."
"What's the other half?"
Klaus starts pouring alcohol into two shot glasses. "The other half, Stefan, is that you used to want to be my wingman." He slides one of the shot glasses to Stefan along the counter.
Chicago Circa 1920 Klaus and Stefan are at the counter drinking.
"They're jealous. Your family wants you dead because they can never be what you are."
"What? An abomination?"
"No. A king."
Klaus smiles. Stefan laughs.
"Look at us. Two sad orphans." Klaus says. They look over and see Rebekah staring at them from a distance. "My sister fancies you, you know."
"Mmm!"
"But...I should warn you, Rebekah doesn't do anything half-speed, and that includes falling in love. So just be careful. She's totally mad."
They laugh.
" I appreciate the advice." Stefan says.
"And when the point comes where she inevitably leaves you...She can't help it, it's just who she is. Don't let your heart do anything stupid."
"You know what, you're a good friend, Nik. I'm glad I met you." He holds up his shot glass in cheers.
Klaus raises his shot of tequila. "To friendship."
Stefan clinks his shot glass.
"If the two of you were such good friends." Alyssa says getting up and joining them on the other side of the bar, "then why is it that he doesn't remember."
"Because all good things must come to an end."
Chicago Circa 1920. Stefan and Rebekah are dancing. Klaus looks at them with a smile from his table. Suddenly he senses something and looks around. A moment later bullets start flying all through the room. Rebekah and Stefan crouch down and hide behind the bar. Stefan takes one of the bullets from the ground.
"They're using wooden bullets. They know.*
Rebekah looking completely petrified says, "That means he's here."
Stefan asks, "Who? Who's here?"
Klaus walks briskly over to the counter.
"Rebekah! Come on, we've got to go, sweetheart." She gets up and Klaus grabs her.
"What the hell is going on?"
Rebekah calls out for Stefan but Klaus pushes her in the opposite direction. "Go!"
Stefan notices Rebekah's necklace lying on the floor. Stefan is about to crouch down and take it when Klaus interrupts him to talk with him.
"Stefan. I'm sorry, but the fun has to end here."
"What are you talking about?"
Klaus compels him. "You must forget Rebekah and me. Until I say otherwise, you never knew us, Stefan. Thank you. I had forgotten what it was like to have a brother." He disappears.
"You compelled him to forget?*
"It was time for Rebekah and I to move on. Better to have a clean slate." He drains his glass.
"But why? You shouldn't have to cover your tracks." As Stefan says this Alyssa gets hit with a case of deja vu.
"Unless you're running from someone."
Alyssa's observation must have hit a little too close because Klaus says, "Story time's over." He gets up. "Let's see if Rebekah is awake shall we."
Klaus enters the room in the warehouse full of his family's coffins. Rebekah's is empty and the guardsman is lying dead on the floor nearby.
"Rebekah...It's your big brother. Come out, come out, wherever you are."
Alyssa looks around the room.
Rebekah rushes over and stabs him with the dagger. He gasps. "Go to hell, Nik!"
Klaus takes the dagger out of his chest, holds it out beside him, and drops it. She looks disappointed.
"Don't pout. You knew it wouldn't kill me."
"Yeah, but I was hoping it would hurt more."
"I understand that you're upset with me, Rebekah...So I'm going to let that go. Just this once. Brought you a little peace offering. You can come in."
Stefan comes in but doesn't show any sign of recognition.
"Stefan…"
Klaus gets closer to him and compels him. "Now you remember."
He remembers everything.
"Rebekah." He walks closer to her.
"Stefan." Stefan stops and turns to face Klaus.
"I remember you. We were friends."
"We are friends." He looks at Rebekah. "And now the reason you're here. Gloria tells me you know how to contact the original witch."
"The original witch?" Rebekah asks, confused.
"What do you have that Gloria needs?"
She touches her neck but realises her necklace is missing. "Where's my necklace? What did you do with it? I never take it off!"
Stefan realises that Elena has the necklace. Alyssa pays closer attention to him after seeing his reaction about the necklace.
"I don't know. I didn't touch it." Klaus says.
"We need to find it, Nik. Now, I want it back!"
"Tell me that's not what she needs, Rebekah!"
She looks into the coffin but doesn't find it so she throws it on the ground.
Alyssa catches the concerned look on Stefan's face. She knew it was about the necklace Klaus needed and she had a feeling that the necklace had something to do with.
"Whether it is or it isn't doesn't matter unless we have it which we don't. So let's stop talking and find it."
"Nik, who is she and why does she have the misguided notion that she can boss me around?" Rebekah asks.
"Rebekah," Klaus says to quiet the temper he knows his sister has. "If you have an idea on how to find a necklace that's been missing for ninety years please share."
"Really?" She looks at him incredulously and then at Rebekah and Stefan, "over a thousand years between you and you can't figure this one out. Gloria? You know the woman who hasn't aged a day since the twenties. If she can figure out how to stop time I'm pretty sure you can figure out a way to find a necklace."
"What are we waiting for?" Klaus says heading for the exit.
"You're forgetting one thing."
He stops and turns around and she looks at Rebekah. She was still wearing the same outfit she wore when he daggered her and put her in a box ninety years ago.
"She isn't exactly going to blend in. She's going to have to change if we don't want to draw attention to herself."
"Very well, a quick trip to a dress shop then."
"Finally," says Alyssa as she passes Klaus to get the door, "a part of this trip I'm going to actually enjoy."
Stefan and Klaus on the other hand weren't as they sat in a clothing store drinking champagne waiting for Rebekah who was trying on clothes. While there, Alyssa thought she should try out a few different looks for herself while she waited. A pair of high waisted jeans that flare out at the bottom and a red shirt that hung off the shoulders was just one of many outfits that she tried on.
The last was a red floral romper where the sleeves of the dress fell from her shoulders. She was trying on different color and size glasses when Rebekah walked out of the dressing room wearing a short black dress. Alyssa turns away from the small mirror where she was trying the glasses on in front of and turns to Rebekah.
"There has to be more to this dress." Rebekah says displeased with the length of her dress that barely covered her thighs.
Klaus told her there wasn't and she crossed her arms exclaiming. "So women in the 21st century dress like prostitutes, then. You know, I got dirty looks for wearing trousers."
"You wore trousers so women today could wear nothing."
"And what is this music? It sounds like a cable car accident."
Stefan explains to her, "it's dance music."
"People dance to this?" Apparently the music wasn't to her liking either.
Growing rather impatient Klaus asks, "Are we done?"
Rebekah asks him, "And why are you so grumpy?"
"I needed one thing from you for my witch to find out why my hybrids are dying, one thing. Your necklace. And you lost it."
"I didn't lose it. It's just been missing for 90 years." She looks at Stefan. "So what do you think?"
"I like it." She doesn't seem satisfied. "What? I said, I like it."
"I can always tell when you're lying, Stefan." She goes back into the fitting room.
Klaus looks at Stefan. "Nice one. Good work."
"You're the one that pulled the dagger out of her."
Rebekah calls out from the dressing room, "I heard that."
Alyssa smiles turning back to the mirror. Picking out the shades she thought best, a pair of round shaped white ones that covers most of her face she steps in front of the full length mirror just outside of the dressing room.
"And where do you think you're going?" Klaus catches her eyes in the mirror as she reaches for a black choker with a gold pendant.
"Now that you've woken Rebekah," she turns to Klaus as she claps on the choker, "you're one step closer to your hybrid army and with Stefan here to keep you company, I thought I'd take a day for myself. Check out the local scene. You know, see what the city has to offer. If I'm lucky, maybe I'll find someone fun to play with."
"You really trust that she's going to come back?"
"I have no doubt."
"How can you be so sure she's not going to run?"
"And where would she go Stefan, back to Mystic Falls? I'm guessing that's where you and Damon were holding her and yet she still found her way back."
"Because you saved Damon."
"Perhaps, in the beginning, she felt some moral obligation, but that since changed now that she's had a taste of what it's like to be truly immortal. She can go anywhere she wants. Do anything she wants and there's no one there to challenge her. But by all means Stefan, if you think you can stop her, feel free to try." he gave him a sly smile. "You know how she just loves being told what she can and can not do."
She didn't actually, and Stefan knew she would never respond kindly to being told what to do, especially when it came to protecting the people that she cared about. He always wasn't aware of how much of what she did was to save face with Klaus and how much of it was Klaus's influence on that dark side of her that he knew she had. It was the side that attracted her to Damon. It was that side of her that decided to punish him for Vickie by going after Lexie. It was that side of her that wanted Elena dead which is what worried him the most. She could expose Elena if she were angry enough. The longer she stayed with him, the further away she was going to get from her humanity. He had to remind her of it. The only way that he could do that was by sticking around.
"I'm going to keep an eye on her. Make sure she hasn't drank her way through the city." The bodies that she and Klaus had left over the summer was proof that she had the capacity to do it. Further proof that she wasn't the same girl that left Mystical falls three months ago.
She would be the first to admit that she wasn't. She couldn't be in order to do what she needed to do. She needed to change. She just didn't expect how much she was going to enjoy the changes she had gone through the last few months. It wasn't solely because she had climbed up the evolutionary food chain. It was because for the first time in her life, she didn't feel the need to apologize for who and what she was. Somewhere along the last three months she was able to find peace with who she was. Of course she could have done without the constant blood lust but she was getting better with controlling her thirst.
Her anger problems were a different story but that had more to do with her werewolf nature than anything else and that was going to take a lot more control on her part. She didn't think she would ever be okay with being a perputant teen for the rest of her life but there wasn't anything she could do about that, so she would have to make the best out of it by looking at all the positives like her heightened senses. One of which was able to let her know that she was being followed. She had been ever since she went into the salon for a haircut and dye red to go with the new her.
She waited until she left the salon for the confrontation. She ducks around the building and as expected is followed. She reached out grabbing her stalker by the neck and pushing them against the building.
Katherine struggles to free herself as Alyssa's grip gets tighter.
"You're a lot stronger than the last time we met."
"A lot has changed since then. Me wanting you dead, isn't one of them. You got five minutes to tell me why you've been following me before I rip your throat out."
"Klaus," she groans, still trying to free herself.
She releases her and Katherine holds her throat. "You know, if he finds out you're in Chicago, you're dead."
"Didn't know you cared."
"I don't. But if you're dead, you can't help me."
She straightens herself, "with what."
"Information. Klaus let slip that he's running from someone. I need to know who." She figured if anyone knew about it, it would be the women who spent five hundred years hiding from him.
"You're planning a move against Klaus."
"Do you know anything or not?"
"I heard stories about a hunter centuries ago."
"Why would an Original vampire who can't be killed be afraid of a vampire Hunter?"
"That's the million dollar question isn't it."
"One I suggest you find the answer to if you ever want to stop running from Klaus."
"If Klaus finds that necklace you'll need to run too."
"What do you know about the necklace?'
"Stefan didn't tell you? I guess he didn't trust you wouldn't tell Klaus he gave Rebekah's necklace to Elena and if that witch finds it."
"He'll find her."
"If he already hasn't." Katherine walks away leaving Alyssa to contemplate her next move. If Klaus had already figured out that Elena was alive then there was nothing that she could do to stop him from going back. There was however one thing she could do to protect the people she cared about. She had to find Stefan and there was only one place she knew he would be. Gloria's.
She came upon him lying on a table at Gloria's. His shirt was torn and she was rubbing some red powder on her hands.
"I'm impressed. You've got discipline, Stefan. It's not going to do you much good, but...Just let go, honey." He puts her hands on his chest. His skin burns and he screams.
"There you go, there you go." She sees images of Stefan and Elena together and him giving her the necklace.
"There's the girl with the necklace. You love her. You'd do anything for her. And you have. A lot of darkness, a lot of guilt. All to keep her away from Klaus. Why would he be interested in one girl
Stefan pleads, "Don't do this. Don't do this." She sees the sacrifice and Klaus killing Elena."
"She's the doppelgänger. She's supposed to be dead, and that's why Klaus can't make hybrids, isn't it?" She laughs.
"Well this is creepy." Gloria turns around. Alyssa's beside her and she puts a stake through her neck. Gloria falls on the floor, dead.
Alyssa helps Stefan off the table and looks down at Gloria's dead body. "Something you forgot to tell me? Like how the necklace you gave Elena belonged to Rebekah first." He looks at her surprised. "Don't worry Stefan, I get it, you don't trust me and that's okay. You shouldn't." She snapped his neck and watched him fall to the floor.
She sits his unconscious body in the back of the trunk and whispers, "Forgive me," because she knew she was going to hate her after what comes next.
"Gloria was able to get a location from him before he killed her, Mystic Falls that's where you'll find the necklace." She looks back at him, "and whatever else he's hiding."
"Well, looks like you'll get to go home again after all."
"Mystic Falls was never my home." She got in the truck.
"What are you going to do with him once we find my necklace?" Rebekah asks.
"I'm carefully considering my options."
Alyssa looks back at Stefan before bending down inside the truck so she is between Rebekah and Klaus. "I have an idea."
