Chapter 6
"Found the flyer. It looks like one of those ones where you tear off the bottom little pieces," M'gann announced. She, Kara, Brainy, and Nia were at the community center and trying to sort out the building next door. The flyers were located on a bulletin board in the vestibule in the front of the community center.
"Are all of the pieces missing?" Kara was hoping not.
"Yeah, they're all gone," M'gann heaved a sigh before handing the remnants of the flyer to Brainy. She had just pulled out the pushpin and carefully removed the paper, only holding the corner of it.
"Judging by the type of paper and the tear marks we could be looking for up to eight people – well seven, if you count Josaphina," he confirmed.
"Oh boy. We need fingerprints off that piece of paper," Kara told him. He nodded and pulled out a plastic bag and put it in there.
"Mrs. Ladner, who runs the center, didn't see who posted that flyer and she doesn't have security cameras on the inside of the building," Nia came back to them.
"What about the cameras on the outside of the building?" Brainy wondered.
"The tapes write over themselves every three days so…" Nia heaved a sigh.
"No way to know when the flyer was put up. Might give us nothing or we might get lucky," he told her. Nia nodded and quickly scooted back out of the vestibule to find Mrs. Ladner.
"I'm going to use my X-ray vision on the building next door. We need to see if someone is in there," Kara said before moving to the nearby exterior wall. M'gann and Brainy waited to see what, if anything, she could see. They certainly did not want to tip off anyone in there that they were being watched.
"There's two people inside. One at what appears to be a reception desk and one that is in a back room. Didn't Josaphina say it looked like a doctor's office?" The blonde asked.
"Yes, why? It even has a sign that says, 'General Practitioner' on the door," M'gann was confused.
"What doctor's office is so empty in the middle of the day?" Kara wondered.
"Sounds sketchy to me. Should I introduce myself?" The Martian asked.
"Please do," the blonde smirked. Slowly, the White Martian, transformed into an elderly woman and then moved slowly to the building next door. Kara and Brainy exited out the front door and took to the skies, landing on the roof. The blonde carefully forced open the roof hatch and they made entry to the building.
"A mop closet, how wonderful," Brainy whispered. Kara scanned the hallway outside and found no one.
"The entire second floor looks empty of people. Wanna have a look around?" She asked quietly.
"After you mam'selle," he bowed and swept his hand to the locked mop closet door. The blonde chuckled and she carefully opened the door, but she still managed to wreck the interior handle. Brainy went to the left and Kara went to the right out in the hallway. They weren't up there very long when M'gann voice came over the comms, in a low whisper.
"If this guy is a doctor, I'm a computer genius." Kara laughed to herself.
"Should we pay him a visit?" Brainy asked, keeping his voice low.
"You get the receptionist. I'll get this one," M'gann told them. Kara and Brainy quickly headed to their respective nearby staircases in an effort to cut anyone who tried to leave off.
"Supergirl?" The receptionist's eyes went wide as the blonde appeared out of the stairwell near the front door.
"And you are?" The blonde asked.
"Don't tell her anything!" The "doctor" yelled as he came out of the office and down the hallway to the reception area. M'gann had him by the shirt with Brainy bringing up the rear, making sure he wasn't going anywhere.
"Ok 'Doctor Weiss'. You have some 'splaining to do," M'gann said.
"And I suggest you start talking," Kara gave him a look.
