My Little Pony: Worker Birds
Chapter 13: Now Hiring
When the phone rings, it usually happens when my friends and I are in the middle of work. Often times, we don't get to the phone in time and have to call them back. This gave Gilda an idea, "Why don't we advertise online? We can use an office-pony or something like that," she suggested, I stopped and scratched the side of my temple with the wrench
"That's a great idea, Gilda!" praised Gabby
"And I think I know who to call," I smiled
"You mean Miss Big n' Blond?" winked Gilda
Taking a break from changing the oil in our mighty excavator, I went to the office and picked up the phone to dial a friend, a very special friend. After what we did for that little colt's birthday party, Mint Chip became a friend to all of us here. So I called him up, and he was quick to answer, "Hi Minty, how're you doing? Listen may I speak to your mom?"
"Oh! I'm doing great, Miss Ellie," Mint Chip replied
"Aww...that's good to hear," I replied sweetly
I know his mother, and I think this is our chance to lend a helping hand to this single 'Big Mare' of a mother and her son, "Sure, one sec," he replied, and I overheard him on the other line calling out to his mother that it's for her. There was a moments pause I waited patiently on the other line. I soon heard a sight sound of hooves going up to the phone.
"Hello, this is Sweet Vanilla speaking," she greeted
"Bonsoir, Sweet Vanilla, this is Heloise speaking,"
"Oh! Happy Hooves! How are you?" she exclaimed
"I am well, very well thank you, listen...I would like to extend an offer to you, my friends and I need some help around our workplace, and getting up to answer the phone while at work means having to call back every time, so I'd like to extend an offer to you for you to be our office-mare over at Eagle Mountain Construction and Hauling, what say you?"
"Alright...my son comes first and I think he'll be more than thrilled in knowing that I get to work with some of the few folks out there that I consider as family friends, I'll do it," said Sweet Vanilla on the other line. I was soon joined by a curious Gilda and Gabby in the front office, "so what time would you like for me to come in, I can bring my resume,"
"That would be lovely, Miss Vanilla," I replied back
"Perfect, the job hunt's been tough," she sighed
"I understand," I said, hearing the sigh on her end
"Could you hold on a moment? I need to check the schedule," I asked of Sweet vanilla, and got an understanding 'okay' from her. The next job was going to be next month. It will be at a digging site where a new shopping plaza is opening up on the outskirts of Ponyville. With that in mind, I went back to the phone "how does tomorrow sound?" I asked
"Mint Chip is on Spring Break from school...,"
"Well, that's good," I commented as she paused
"If the interview isn't too long, may I bring my son to your shop? I think he'd like to see those big machines you ladies work with," suggested Sweet Vanilla, I held the phone up between Gabby and Gilda to have them listen in on the conversation. They grinned and agreed. We've been friends with Sweet Vanilla. She is very beautiful and gives great hugs
"Not too long, I'd say half an hour at most," I replied
"Perfect, I look forward to seeing you," she concluded
"Alright, thank you," I replied, hearing the 'hang up' click
Her son is a good colt, and very smart. He has his bully problems, but he has a very supportive mother. We have even been to the pool with the mother and son over the summer. Sweet Vanilla is aquatically gifted, and quite graceful diving into a pool or diving off the diving board. Sweet Vanilla came by that afternoon "Sweet Vanilla!" Gabby cheered
"Good to see you," she replied, giving her a big hug
"Well hey there, Big n' Blond," said Gilda with a wink
"If that's what I am around you, then I'll take it,"
"Honestly mom, I think you should," said Mint Chip and got hugs from Gabby, Gilda and I plus a ruffle on the top of his head along with a kiss from his mother. With that, I led Sweet Vanilla into the office while her son was being watched over and looked after by Gabby and Gilda. Her big and mature flanks made a wiggle as we hugged in the office.
Now that I think about it as I went over the questions and reviewed her answers, I think she and Buena Vista can, as the Ponies say, 'hit it off' as friends. They are both 'Tulparian Mares' after all. With the questions concluded, there was one final one, "So...if in the event one our friends get sick or can't make it to work, will you be able to fill in for her?"
"As in work the machines?" Sweet Vanilla asked
I nodded to her, "Do you offer training?" she asked
"Of course," I said with a smile to the blond mare
"Mint Chip's going to love this," said Sweet Vanilla, I nodded in agreement. As I closed the folder which had her resume in it, and put it in the file, I made my decision on this bright and very smart mare. With a hoof-to-paw handshake, Sweet Vanilla pounced on me out of the purest joy. I spun her around laughing as I placed her back on her hooves
