Important info: Takes place on the first break day after the episode "Hide and Be Sneaky". The mergers are the same. Bridgette received the most votes, but Geoff quit the game to keep her in. Also Bridgette was not sprayed by skunks.
It's the next morning after the boat of losers left with Geoff. It should have been Bridgette, but Geoff sacrificed his spot for her. The surfer girl in question was taking a morning walk. She needed to clear her mind after last night. The boy she liked gave up his chances at $100,000 for her. They even shared a kiss. Bridgette felt butterflies knowing that he cared for her so much. Although, it wasn't all good though. There was one person who wasn't at all happy with this, Duncan. Bridgette had honestly never had the best opinion of Duncan. He was mean, rude, and overbearing. What did Courtney see in him was beyond her. But now she learns from Geoff that Duncan was the one to try and organize her elimination. Geoff tried to apologize to him, but Duncan didn't want to hear it and left without so much as a goodbye. Bridgette was soon brought out of her thoughts when she walked down a path and came across Duncan himself. He was carving a tree with his knife, and he was being quite aggressive.
"Duncan! What are you doing to that poor tree?!" Bridgette asked as she ran up to him to get him to stop.
"Carving." He said without turning around.
"You can't do that! You're hurting the tree." Bridgette tried to protest.
"It's a damn tree, who cares?"
Bridgette was getting irritated. "Would you stop being such a criminal and not hurting anyone or anything for once?!"
Duncan finally turned around and glared at the surfer. "Would you stop bugging me and mind your own damn business? I can do what I want."
"You can't just break any rules you want! No wonder you were in juvie."
"Well maybe I like breaking rules. Besides, your stupid boyfriend broke the rule of betraying us yesterday." Duncan spat.
"Don't call him that! And he only did what he did because you tried to force him to vote me off."
"Because it was the smart thing to do. We're here to win some money! What idiot would just give up on that?"
"Well not everyone thinks the way you do. Money is nice, but Geoff just wanted to compete and have a good time. But you held him back on a leash. I'm more than sure you knew he liked me, but you still tried to get him to vote me off." Bridgette told the delinquent in anger.
"It's called playing the game Malibu. Voting you was a smart move since you're a threat. I trusted Geoff to be by my side, and he just goes and quit for some girl he met not even eight weeks ago. Whatever gets me closer to the end I take it." Duncan argued.
"And how does hurting trees, being mean to people, including your own friends help get you to the end? And don't act like you wouldn't have done the same for Courtney as well.
"Last time I chekced I'm still here while Princess isn't, so obviously I didn't quit for her. Sure Iike her and all, but I still came to win some bail money."
"Money isn't everything. You should be more nicer to people. Nobody deserves to be mistreated. And not breaking the rules could help you gain a better future. With the route you're going down, you'll end up in jail without parole." Bridgette told him. "Geoff told me your parents are police officers, it doesn't make since that their son is a criminal."
Duncan's fist tightened at the mention of his parents. "I don't have to do what those old hags tell me, and I don't have to stand her listening to you thinking you know everything about me. Get lost before I send you home via medically evacuated!" Duncan threatened.
Bridgette glared at him one last time before turning around and stomping away. The nerve kf him.
Bridgette decided to go for a swim to cool down from her argument with Duncan. She was in her wetsuit and was laying ontop of her surfboard floating in the water. She had finally started to relax when a shark fin began swimming around her.
"Ahhh! Shark!" She screeched. Soon the shark popped it's head out of the water. Although it wasn't actually a shark.
"Hahahaha! Gotcha!" Izzy laughed as she took off the fake shark fin.
"Izzy! Don't do that?!" Bridgette yelled at the crazy girl.
Izzy laughed. "Sorry, but I couldn't help myself." She then climbed onto the surf board. "What are you doing out here?"
Bridgette relaxed again before answering. "I just needed some fresh air is all. Things have been tense "
"Oh right, before ol Geoffy left the island last night." Izzy remembered as she started paddling with her feet and arms around the water in the surfboard.
"It's not just that. I had an argument with Duncan tbis morning. He was mad because Geofd saved himself for me. Not only that, but he's so vile. I know he's a criminal, but he doesn't have to act so terrible all the time." Bridgette ranted. Once Izzy got them back to the shore, they got up and sat underneath the dock.
"Oh that's just Duncan being Duncan. He is who he is." Izzy said before taking out a fish out of her bathing suit and taking a bite out of it.
Bridgette decided to ignore that and continue. "But he doesn't have to act so bad all the time. He could do good things and be nicer. I don't know why he chooses to be the way he is. Especially since his parent are cops."
Izzy stopped eating and turned to face Bridgette. "His parents are cops?"
"Yeah, Geoff told me awhile back. Apparently Duncan doesn't get along well with then. Especially his father."
Izzy hummed. "Maybe you should try to understand him more."
Bridgette turned he head. "What do you mean?"
"I think I can relate to Duncan more than anyone thinks. We're both basically criminals, though I'm wanted by the RCMP for bigger things, while he just do harmless crimes like vandalism. Regardless, we're not very different. I'm who I am because I like to feel free and express my creativity. People say I'm crazy, which I guess they're not wrong. But I don't care. I like who I am, an energetic person who's probably wanted by every FBI agency in the northern hemisphere. And I think Duncan is the same, minus the wanted part. He just wants fo be him without being told what he should and shouldn't do." Izzy explained.
Bridgette was stunned. She didn't expect this side of Izzy. But she was still confused. "Well even so, why does he have to act bad? And why was he so mad at Geoff? I know we're competing for $100,000 but still."
"Maybe that's something you should talk to Duncan about. Try listening and understanding him. Maybe you'll receive what you seek." Izzy said ominously.
Bridgette thought about it. Maybe she was a bit quick to judge. It wouldn't hurt to here Duncan's side of things. "Maybe you're right. Thanks Izzy. You really helped."
"No problem." Izzy stood up. "Now if you'll excuse, I have to go find the lost treasure of the Elf King! I've deduced that it's somewhere behind Chef's fridge. See ya!" Izzy flipped off to the mess hall. Poor Chef. Regardless, Bridgette was now about to go find Duncan.
It didn't take long to find Duncan. He was at the same spot as before, although he was done carving and was instead laying in the grass staring at the sky. Bridgette took a deep breath before approaching.
"Duncan?" She said softly.
"What do you want now?" He asked sourly.
Bridgette knew getting him to talk would be tough, but she had to try. "I wanted to apologize for earlier. I was too quick to judge you. I want to hear your side of things and try to get to know you more."
Duncan looked at Bridgette in a bit of shock. He didn't think she'd want to come back to talk to him. But he was still hesitant.
"Why should I tell you anything?"
"You don't have to. I just wanted to tell you that if you do, I'll listen." Bridgette said. Duncan didn't say anything for some time. Bridgette took that as her cue to leave, when Duncan finally spoke.
"Fine." He said shortly. Bridgette turned to him. He didn't move, so she slowly walked to where he was laying and took the spot next to him on the grass. "What do you want to know?"
"Well, why do you choose to get into trouble. I don't imagine juvy to be very fun."
"Because doing what everyone expects from a person is boring. I want to do things because I want to, mit because other people want or expect me to." He answered.
"Is that why you don't get along with your parents? Because they expect you to be like them?" She asked.
"Basically. My brothers are also cops and are perfect images of what my parents want. My dad always compared me to them and ask why I couldn't be more like my brothers. They can't accept me for who I am, only want what they want to see in me. Even my brothers are always on my parents side. When we were younger we always had each other's backs, now they're always defending my parents and telling me how I should act. If you can't trust your own family, who can you trust?"
As soon as he started talking about his brothers, Bridgette thought back to Geoff. "Is thst why you were so mad at Geoff? Because you felt betrayed?"
Duncan was quite for awhile before talking. "Before coming here, my parole officer said that I should make some friends and start trusting people more. I was hesitant, but decided to do so anyway. Geoff along with DJ were people I felt I could lean on. Hell, we even decided to try and make it all the way to the end. But as soon as you came into the equation, Geoff's loyalty started to wane. He always said he wouldn't do anything to jeopardize us, and I decided to believe him. Despite that, I was still paranoid. That's why I wanted to try and vote for you. Not just because you were a threat, but to test Geoff to see where his loyalty lied. It took some convincing, but he told us he'll do it. I really thought I could trust him with that, but clearly I was wrong. He betrayed my trust, and put us in the major minority of the group." Duncan spoke his heart out without even realizing how much he was talking until he felt the need to catch his breath from his long rant.
Bridgette was silent the whole time, only listening to everything Duncan was saying. He wasn't such a bad guy, he just wanted to be himself, not what others wanted him to be. And he had trust issues with people, originating from his own family. Bridgette felt bad for Duncan. The way he acts stems much deeper than ine may thing. Without knowing the right words, Bridgette did the only other thing she could think of. She hugged him tight, his head resting on her shoulder. Duncan was shocked since he wasn't expecting a hug. Normally he'd have pushed her off, but instead he found himself hugging back. It felt nice and warm. He felt a ton of weight lifted off his shoulders. Bridgette herself felt like her conscious with cleaner than before. She was glad that she actually got to know more about Duncan instead of just judging him. The two stayed in the hug for a while before pulling away.
Duncan looked a bit hesitant we're trying to say something. "Thanks... for listening. It actually helped more than I thought."
Bridgette smiled. "You're welcome. I'll be here for you if you ever need someone to talk to. You can trust me, I'll help you be able to trust people more."
Duncan smiled too. "I guess that wouldn't be so bad."
The two then laid back down in the grass and watched the clouds go back. It was much more relaxing now that there was less tension in the air.
Nearby in one of the trees, Izzy was sitting on a branch wearing an elf hat and eating an apple as she watched the two. Lucky she took those lip readings lessons.
"Nice to see things work out for them. And Izzy found the Elf King's treasure!" She happily said to herself. Down below that tree, Chef was searching for Izzy.
"Crazy redhead stealing my Christmas hat my momma made for me. I don't get paid enough for this job." He mumbled to himself.
I wanted to write a Duncan and Bridgette story since I haven't done so in awhile. I felt like Izzy would relate the most to Duncan since they're both criminals who like to feel free.
