Story: Luffy grows up in Marineford. This changes things—a lot. Sengoku is convinced she should've been a pirate and Garp is just so damn happy and proud. She's got three Admirals as over-the-top dads, a pirate Sir courting her, and a chain-smoking handsome best friend. Now that she's finally set sail, regardless of rank and being enlisted, Luffy will make sure she (and her crew!) will be roaming the seas freely and spreading Liberated Justice, no matter what any old geezers tell her. She may have ended up a Marine, but she still wants the One Piece and to be called the Pirate King!
Set as an AU genderbending fic, canon-rewrite.
Spoilers: Probably the whole series, at least up to Wano.
Warnings: Age disparity, canon violence, cursing and sexual situations…
Pairings: Fem!Luffy/Smoker, Fem!Luffy/Crocodile

Luffy the Pirate Queen
Chapter One: Epithet

Koby absolutely hated Alvida, but he was too much of a coward to change himself or do anything about his situation. Hence why he was sweating and panting, trying to move the heavy barrel of apples they'd found on the ship they'd attacked and onto Alvida's ship.

He'd barely moved the barrel from one side of the room to the middle of it and ended up having to stop and take a break. His thin arms ached and he was already exhausted, even though he hadn't even been working at it for longer than a few minutes.

"Is it that heavy?" a lighthearted voice asked and Koby groaned. "To me, it feels more like a barrel of cannonballs than a barrel of apples!"

"They're some real good apples though."

Koby blinked before finally looking to who had been speaking to him, seeing a really pretty girl sitting crosslegged on a barrel by the stairs, chewing thoughtfully as she held a half-eaten apple in hand. A dozen other leftover remains of apples she'd eaten were by her feet.

Looking her over again, his face became a huge red mess —a pale yellow bandeau wrap that covered her (more than generous) breasts but showed off her defined abs and slim shoulders. Tiny blue shorts hugged her, reaching mid-thigh and revealing more toned limbs. A sheer crimson-red kimono was draped over her shoulders, the see-through cover thin and more decorative than anything.

"W-w-who a-are y-you?" he stammered, wondering where she came from and how he missed her coming in.

How long had she been sitting there anyway?!

"Monkey D. Luffy, at your service!" she gave him a mock bow, not even overbalancing on the barrel she still sat on.

"P-please! You'll get in trouble if you get caught here, and eating from Alvida's stuff! She'll kill you!" Koby begged, not wanting this pretty girl to be killed mercilessly by that evil woman.

Luffy took another bite of the apple and rolled her eyes. "Nah, I'm good. I was looking for the old hag anyway —Oh and Sen-jiji said I could pirate food off of pirates! Hahaha! Said something about how pirates can deal with my appetite instead…"

Koby looked at her in disbelief, more so as she finally got off of her barrel and strode over to him. She was taller than him by far, even though he got the feeling they were close in age, but her height allowed her to absentmindedly pat his head. Then she, with strength he wished he had, took his barrel and hauled it up easily. She started walking towards the entrance to the stairs and Koby finally snapped out of it to freak out.

"I said you can't do that! Alvida is seriously scary and really strong! She will definitely, definitely, definitely kill you!"

"Not a chance," she answered him in boredom, walking up the stairs without a care.

Just then, as he'd feared, Alvida caught sight of them, her men that she'd been yelling at still surrounding her.

"Koby, you idiot brat! Who's that bitch and why does she have one of my barrels?!" she screamed at him.

Koby felt his knees shaking. "Um, that is, she's…"

"Tch, you're such a loudmouth," Luffy declared and Koby stared at her in horror. She turned to him. "And you, grow a spine, yeah? Stop being such a scaredy-cat."

"Excuse me, but…that's kinda mean, Luffy," someone said and Koby caught sight of a man lounging on a few boxes stacked side by side, long legs hanging off of the end. He wasn't even looking at them, eyes covered by a sleeping mask of all things!

Luffy scrunched up her nose. "Really? Thought I was just being honest."

"Sometimes you are too honest, Lu."

She laughed, her braid swinging behind her. "Come on now, Kuzan!"

"What the hell! Who are you people?! Koby, who the hell do you think you are, bringing along who you want? I'll show you!"

Koby squeaked, whole body shaking as Alvida began to stomp over to their direction, swinging her iron club up. He braced himself before, to his shock, Luffy looked at Alvida and just glared.

A harsh feeling, heavy and potent, washed over him, but most of it was directed towards Alvida. The older woman paled and heaved gasping breaths, looking close to fainting as she fell to her knees. The men saw their Captain fall and tried to rush over to Koby and Luffy, but the lounging man lazily waved a hand in their direction, amazingly sprouting a rush of ice toward them. It covered their legs and stuck their feet to the ground. Alarmed yelling came from them while Luffy snickered.

"Show off," she accused 'Kuzan'.

"Says the girl who used her Conqueror's Haki on a weak pirate captain."

Luffy shrugged. "I wanted her to be quiet already. Plus, I was hoping to train it to be more specific."

Koby stared at these people. Really, who were they?

"Who are you?" he blurted out, ironically asking what Alvida had wanted to know.

Luffy looked at him quizzically. "Didn't I already tell you that? I'm Monkey D. Luffy."

Kuzan yawned as he sat up, grabbing the scrunched-up white 'pillow' he'd been using and throwing it at Luffy, who easily caught it and unraveled it. She swung it around her shoulders and let it unfold and Koby froze up. He recognized that coat.

"You're with the Marines!"

She blinked at him, tilting her head. She grinned widely and gave him a thumbs up. "Yup, we are!"

Hearing the 'we', Koby's head snapped towards Kuzan, who also had swung his own coat over his shoulders. By then, Luffy headed towards Alvida and bent down to the barely awake woman.

Luffy huffed, hauling her up. "I didn't even use that much Haki…Eh, anyway, you're under arrest by order of the World Government, blah, blah, blah. Just gotta wait for my ship to find me and come around —"

"Commodore Luffelia! We finally found you! Why did you and Admiral Aokiji run off?!"

"Whoops," Luffy giggled.

"Ah, they found us," Admiral Aokiji (aka Kuzan) mumbled sleepily.

Koby's jaw dropped.

46 hours earlier

"I'm going to be Luffy the Pirate Queen!"

"Absolutely not."

Luffy glared at the Fleet Admiral. "Why not?!"

Sengoku gave her a bland look. "You are a Marine. Not a Pirate."

She rolled her eyes. "Duh, I know that. It's gonna be my epithet. You know —like how Gramps is called 'Garp the Fist' and you're 'Sengoku the Buddha'? I'mma be Luffy the Pirate Queen!"

Sengoku let out a long-suffering sigh. "Fine. But even as an epithet, that's not how it works. You don't just make your own; other people come up with one and start calling you it. And being called The Pirate Queen isn't feasible, especially for a Marine!"

"Eh? Why not, Sen-chan? And anyway, of course I have to make it up myself so I can get it to catch on! I can't be called that because I'm a Marine!" She huffed. "If I'm gonna be known as Luffy the Pirate Queen, I gotta get started so people will end up calling me that."

"Don't be ridiculous, Luffy!"

"Am not! It sounds badass and pirates will definitely end up calling me that after I kick their asses."

"Utter nonsense —!"

"Fleet Admiral Sengoku, I have those reports you requested," they were interrupted by Sakazuki, who looked between the two with a flat expression.

Flustered, Sengoku cleared his throat and held out his hand. Accepting the reports, he wished Akainu would just leave. Instead, the man stood there stiffly, frowning at them.

"What's the commotion about?"

While Sengoku wasn't about to embarrass himself on the childish argument he'd gotten drawn into by his granddaughter in all but blood…she seemed to have no qualms admitting to the problem.

"Oi, Sakkun! Sen-jiji won't let me call myself Luffy the Pirate Queen!" Luffy protested.

Sengoku hid his smirk as he watched the younger man's eye twitch. And then, without preamble, Sakazuki held up his arms and crossed them in an X.

"DENIED."

Luffy's jaw dropped and she stared at her father figure distraught. Sakazuki stomped over and grabbed her, tossed her over his shoulder, and left the office.

"Akainu, where are you taking her?" Sengoku did end up feeling a bit worried.

"She's going to timeout!" he roared.

"WHAAAAT?" he heard Luffy's voice echo.

Well…that was usually Sakazuki's solution to everything Luffy (and those other two mischief makers she called dads) idiotically did.

Sakazuki shut the bars in her face, giving her a bland stare as she looked at him aghast.

"You're really putting me in jail, Sakkun?" she widened her eyes and pouted. He wavered a bit but turned his head to avoid looking at her, shoving the bill of his cap to cover his eyes.

"I'm putting you in timeout," he grumbled. "For letting these crazy ideas of yours run through your head. You're too old to be put in the corner, so it's some time behind bars! Besides, you've got company."

He huffed and turned his back, irritably walking away as her attention had already shifted, wondering what he meant. Turning to face inward, she looked inside the cell and blinked, feeling a peal of laughter bubbling up.

"Borsalino!" she squealed, stretching her arms so that her hands hooked around the tall man and then practically glomping him.

"Ooh, Lulu! Of course you're here, ne?" the yellow-suited man chuckled and embraced her back.

"Why are you here?" she asked curiously, tilting her head back so she could look up at him.

Borsalino's smile grew large. "Ah…Well, I tried stowing away on your ship. Sakazuki caught me though and put me in timeout."

Luffy burst out laughing, body shaking with her laughter. He shrugged and chuckled, holding onto her still.

"Looks like we're both in timeout," Luffy smirked.

"Poor Sakazuki, always dealing with our antics," he said, but not an ounce of real sympathy laced his voice. He was fully amused. "He did this to himself though. He could have sworn off living and dealing with us a long time ago. Now it's too late and he's stuck with us."

"Shishishishi! Sakkun should know better."

The two got comfortable on the cell's bed and Borsalino was already plaiting Luffy's hair into a dutch braid, years of practice and experience finally making it second nature to him.

"What did you do to get yourself thrown in here?" he asked as he finished up.

Luffy scrunched up her face. "Sen-jiji and Sakkun won't let me call myself Luffy the Pirate Queen, so it'll catch on and eventually become my epithet."

He obviously got a real kick out of it if he actually broke out of his usual calm state to start laughing loudly at her.

"Yeah, yeah, laugh it up, Borsalino," she rolled her eyes but smiled goodnaturedly. She hesitated then. "You know…I know I'm a Marine and all…But I'm still going to find the One Piece and claim it."

Borsalino dropped his hands away from her finished braid, caught off guard by her remark. However…

He laughed and lightly tugged her braid. "Ooh, that sounds hilarious! Imagine everyone's faces, ne? You know what, I'll even help you, Lulu. If I find something or hear about any information, I'll pass it along."

"Ugh, what're you two conspiring about in there?" Sakazuki cut in, knocking on the bars and glaring at them.

"Secret~" both of them sing-songed, making Sakazuki's eye twitch.

"Whatever," he grumbled, sliding the bars open. "Timeout's over. You two can come out already."

"Really?" Borsalino said, smile almost becoming a tinge bigger. "I got only 20 minutes in there, while Luffy had 10. What a record for us!"

Sakazuki gave him a flat stare before turning away from him and ignoring his fellow Admiral. He held out the plate of food that they hadn't noticed him holding until now.

"Here," he huffed, turning his head. "Eat it."

Luffy giggled, taking the silent apology and quickly devouring her meal. Borsalino stepped out of the cell, gently tugging Luffy after him and the trio stood there as Luffy finished up. Sakazuki glanced irritatedly behind him and then returned his attention to Luffy.

"Your escort is here," he said dryly and Kuzan strolled over to them from behind Sakazuki, yawning as he waved lazily at her. "He'll accompany you to your journey to Dawn Island, where you'll meet up with Vice Admiral Garp."

Luffy licked her lips, swallowing her last bite. "Huh, so I'll see Gramps there? Why'd I have an escort though? Not that I mind Kuzan coming along."

"And hey! Why does Kuzan go and not me?" Borsalino protested.

Sakazuki ignored him, addressing her instead. "Despite your…rank, being a new recruit, Admiral Aokiji will be quickly mentoring you through your duties. He'll also make sure you get acclimated to being a Marine, especially one of a high rank."

Luffy frowned, reaching to tug her braid in thought. "About that…they say anything about why they made me a Commodore instead of me starting out as an Ensign if not a Chore Girl? I just became a Marine and all…"

Since she was thinking hard about it on her own, she missed the three men trading looks.

"…No. We were told nothing about the circumstances," Sakazuki answered reluctantly. "But it's being looked into. In the meantime, just do your best."

Deciding that there wasn't really anything for her to do about it, she mentally shrugged and let herself be led away.

"Anyway, make sure you start spreading the word —Sen-jiji says that epithets are mostly passed around by people, so you guys gotta start calling me Luffy the Pirate Queen!"

"DENIED!"

At the port, Sengoku was waiting for them. Surprised to see him, none of them said anything, even though Luffy thought he would stay in his office.

"It will be strange to not have you around Headquarters anymore," Sengoku admitted once they reached him. "Call in often, will you?"

Luffy gave one of her signature wide grins. "You bet, Sen-jiji! Aww, I knew you loved me~"

He ignored her antics and waved a hand toward a deep red-colored battleship, clearing his throat. "This shall be your personal vessel, Commodore Luffelia," she made a face at her 'not-really' name and his sudden formality. "It was…given to you by —"

"The World Government."

The clack! clack! of heavy boots echoed and they all faced the speaker, the chill running through Luffy heavily. She got a glimpse before she quickly looked down, having been repeatedly told and lectured her whole life about never looking at them.

"Now, now, Commodore Luffelia, you may look up. As an exception, you are allowed to gaze at me."

Luffy felt Borsalino discreetly shuffle closer to her as she reluctantly raised her head.

Before her was none other than one of the Five Elders, Saint Jaygarcia Saturn.

A/n: Frozen Heart is still being worked on and hopefully updated tomorrow~ That said, this was one of the One Piece fics that was supposed to be worked on and published first, since I came up with it before Frozen Heart ()

Quick Notes:

1. This is a Marine AU, so more Marine focused.

2. Admirals (and Marines) aren't one-note :)

3. Luffy still does whatever the hell she wants.

4. There's a childhood fic attached to this that I will probably be publishing concurrently.
