Chapter 8-Finding the attacker
Clarke's P.O.V
Clarke, Jake, Raven, and Lincoln watch as Luna carries Raven into the rooms. "Oh my god, Raven," Clarke says as Luna sets her down on the bed.
"I didn't take the knife out," Luna tells Clarke, who nods. "Can you save her?"
"I think so," Clarke says. "She was attacked?"
"Yes, looks like you guys were, too," Luna says as she looks at the dead man.
"Alright, Octavia, grab my bag. It's under my desk," Clarke tells Octavia, who nods as she goes to the desk.
"What is going on?" Lexa asks as she comes into the room. She stops when she sees Raven and the dead man. "What happened?"
"We were attacked. I was attacked in the hall, Lincoln and Octavia by the elevator, and Clarke in her own room. One of them stabbed Raven," Jake growls. "We're supposed to be safe here, Lexa."
"You guys need to talk outside, get out," Clarke says. "Take him with you, Luna. I'm gonna need help."
"You'll have it," Luna says as she takes her coat off. "Get out," She tells the others, who nod as they leave the room. Lincoln stops by the door and drags the man out of the room.
Lexa's P.O.V
Lexa led them into the throne room where Gustus, Indra, Anya, and Titus were. "What is going on, Heda?" Titus asks.
"Clarke, Jake, Raven, and Octavia were attacked. Raven is now fighting for her life. Did they say anything to you?"
"He told me he was protecting the Commander," Jake says.
"Our guy said for Heda," Octavia says. "In their mind, they were protecting you."
"You don't think I ordered this, do you?" Lexa asks.
"Of course not, but I wanna know who did. Raven is fighting for her life. Jus drein jus daun," Jake says.
"You will have our blood, Jake. I swear it," Lexa says firmly as she looks at Anya and Indra. "Lock down the city. Nobody leaves."
"Of course, Heda," Anya says as she leaves with Indra.
"Titus, go check on the nightbloods," Lexa tells Titus, who nods as he leaves, and she turns and looks at Gustus. "I hate to ask this, Gustus, truly I do, but was this you? I know you did not agree with this."
"At first, I did not, Heda. But what I said to the ambassadors was true. These four are strong, and I have come to respect them. I swear to all of you, I did not set this up, but I will help you find those responsible."
"What about Nia?" Octavia asks.
"No, not while she is in the city and not right now. Killing you does not help her,"
"What were you attacked with?" Lincoln asks Jake, who looks at him confused.
"A knife," Jake says.
"So were we, and Raven, but not Clarke. This man had an ax. Why a knife for the three of us but an ax for Clarke?" Lincoln asks.
"Heda, I recognize this man," Gustus says as he looks at the man. "He guards the Natblida."
"Why would he attack, Clarke?" Jake asks.
"I don't know," Lexa says. "But I do not think this attack was to get rid of you."
"Then why attack us?" Jake asks.
"Because I care about you," Lexa says softly. "This person knows that. They are trying to hurt me."
"This is something Nia would do, Heda," Gustus says.
"Have Nia brought to me, Gustus? Take them to Jake's room. I want guards on them at all times, only your most trusted guards."
"Of course, Heda," Gustus says as he leads them out of the room.
Clarke's P.O.V
Clarke stiched Raven's stomach together and let out a sigh. "Will she live?" Luna asks.
"I don't know," Clarke says. "As long as nothing important was hit and there is no internal bleeding, yes, but I don't have what I need down here to tell," Clarke says. "Good thing is there's no fluid. Did you check the blade for poison?"
"There is none," Luna says. "Now what?"
"We wait," Clarke says as she sits down and looks at the blood on her floor. "I killed someone."
Luna looks at Clarke as she rubs her hands on her face, getting some of Raven's blood on her face. Luna stands up and walks into the bathroom. She comes out a minute later with a wet rag and wipes the blood off Clarke's face. She starts to wipe the blood off Clarke's hand. "I killed my first man when I was ten," Luna says. "I was in the woods with Lexa, Costia, and Anya."
"Who's Costia?" Clarke asks.
"She was Lexa's mate. She was killed by Queen Nia before Azgeda joined the Coalition," Luna tells Clarke, who nods. "We were training in the woods when we were attacked by clanless. Anya and Lexa fought off a couple, and so did I. I killed him by stabbing my sword through his heart. I killed two more after that. That night, I cried in my room. Taking a life should never be easy, Clarke. If it ever becomes easy, take a look at yourself," Luna tells Clarke, who nods.
Lexa's P.O.V
Lexa sat on her throne as Nia came into the throne room. "Hello, Heda," Nia says. "I have heard that the city is under lockdown and that your guests were attacked."
"That is true," Lexa says. "People I care for have once again been harmed. I can't help but think that it happened while you are in the city. I don't think that is a consequence."
"I understand why you may think this," Nia says. "After what I did to Costia, but this time, Heda. We want the same thing, to be allied with the sky people."
"I am supposed to believe you?" Lexa asks.
"I don't care if you believe me. I know that I did not try and kill the sky people. I will have my warriors look for them through. Good day, Heda," Nia says before she leaves the room. Lexa sat in her chair, staring at the door.
Octavia's P.O.V
Octavia, Jake, and Lincoln sat in Jake's room. "Shouldn't Clarke be in here with us?" Octavia asks.
"She is with Raven, and Luna is with her. I promise you she is safe," Lincoln says.
"We haven't even been here for three days, and we have been attacked. How the hell does Lexa plan to protect us?" Octavia growls.
"She is doing her best, Octavia. She is also the Commander. She cannot watch us at all times,"
"Raven might die today. I don't care about her position," Octavia growls as she stands up. "We should have never come here."
Jake sighs and stands up. He walks up to Octavia and lays his hand on her shoulder. "Raven is a fighter. She is going to be okay."
"She better be," Octavia says as she walks back to the bed.
Luna's P.O.V
Luna looked at Clarke as she slept on the couch. She then looked at Raven and watched as her chest slowly rose up and down. "You are strong, Raven. I knew it from the moment I saw you. Clarke, Octavia, and Jake need you, so you need to fight. You need to wake up. Wake up, Raven," Luna says firmly. "This world needs you."
"Every world needs me," Raven says. Her voice was hoarse as she turned her head and looked at Luna, who let out a sigh of relief. "You saved me."
"Clarke did," Luna says as she looks at the blond.
"Did they attack the others?" Raven asks Luna, who nods. "Are they okay?"
"Yes," Luna says as she stands up and walks over to Clarke. "She's awake," Luna says as she shakes Clarke's shoulder. Clarke opens her eyes and looks at Luna before she looks at Raven, who is looking at her.
"How are you feeling?" Clarke asks as she stands up and walks over to her.
"Like shit," Raven says. Clarke nods as she looks at Raven's wound.
"It doesn't look any worse. I'd say you are through the worst of it when I see Lexa again. I'll ask her to ask her healers to bring more medicine."
"I will ask her. I'll tell Jake and Octavia that you are awake so that they can come and see you," Luna tells Raven, who nods as she leaves the room.
Lexa's P.O.V
Lexa stood on the balcony, staring at her city. "How is she?" Lexa asks as Luna comes up behind her.
"She's awake," Luna says as she stops beside her best friend. "Clarke said that she is through the worst of it, but she needs more medicine."
"Chris!" Lexa shouts, and a guard comes in. "Go see the healers. Tell them to take medicine to Clarke's room," Lexa tells the guard, who nods as he leaves. "I failed them, Luna. I could not protect them."
"Maybe that's the problem. You think you need to protect them. You have friends, Lexa. Let us help you," Luna says. "I can stay in Polis for as long as needed to. I will travel with Raven to make sure she is not harmed, and Lincoln can stay with Octavia. Indra and Anya can watch Jake."
"What about Clarke?" Lexa asks as she looks at Luna.
"Make her your second," Luna says.
"It is rare for a Commander to take a second. I would be taking a second that isn't even from a clan," Lexa answers.
"But you don't care about the reaction you will get," Luna says. "You just want to keep her safe. If you want people to trust Skaikru, make Clarke your second; she will learn everything about our people, and she will become a strong fighter. This is how they earn their respect. Your people love you, Lexa. They will follow you."
Lexa was about to speak when Anya came in. "We found him."
Jake's P.O.V
Jake sat on Raven's bed. "I'm glad you're okay. I can't be left alone with these two. I need your brain."
"I know," Raven says with a smirk as Lexa comes in with Luna. Behind her, Indra and Anya drag a man in and throw him to the ground as Gustus shuts the door.
"Who is that?" Octavia asks.
"The man who wants you dead," Indra says.
"How do you know?" Jake asks.
"Indra and Anya caught the man who stabbed Raven. His death was slow. He gave this man up," Lexa says.
"Why do you want us dead?" Clarke asks.
"A Commander is meant to be alone, to not care for anybody. Lexa knows that love is a weakness. I was trying to make sure she understood it," The man growls.
"Do you know him?" Octavia asks Lexa, who nods.
"He was a guard for the former Commander," Lexa says as she looks at them. "The kill is yours."
Jake nods as he walks forward and removes his knife. "Yu gonplei ste odon," Jake says before he stabs the man in the heart. The man lets out a final breath as Jake pulls his knife out of his chest, and he falls to the ground dead.
"Put the body in the woods," Lexa tells a guard, who nods as he grabs the body and leaves. "I owe you all an apology, Raven, you most of all. I brought you here and told you would be protected, and not even three days later, you almost died, and you were all attacked. I am sorry."
"You couldn't have known Lexa," Clarke says. "But how do we make sure it doesn't happen again?"
"You will all be getting guards. Raven, Luna has volunteered to stay by your side while she is in Polis," Lexa tells Raven, who smiles.
"You'll be sick of me by the time you leave," Raven says.
"I doubt that," Luna says.
"Octavia, Lincoln will stay by your side," Lexa tells the girl, who nods as she looks at the man. "Jake, seeing as you spend most of your time with them as it is. Indra and Anya will spend their time with you."
"Makes sense," Jake says.
"And me?" Clarke asks.
"You will become my second, Clarke," Lexa says, making Anya, Indra, and Gustus look at her in shock.
"Heda-" Indra tries.
"I will hear nothing from you. I know what I am doing," Lexa tells the clan leader, who nods. "As my second, you will attend meetings with me, travel with me, and I will train you. You will spend most of your time with me. Do you accept?"
"I do," Clarke says, and Lexa nods.
Titus's P.O.V
Titus walked into Nia's room. "Your man failed at killing Clarke and the other three," Titus growls.
"I am aware; do not worry. I had someone take the fall. They do not suspect us now, Titus. In the end, we will both get what we want. You will be rid of Skaikru, and I will once again control Azgeda. Don't worry, Titus, last time we worked together, it worked out well," Nia says as she stares at the flamekeeper.
Thanks for reading. This chapter was completely focused on the ground. Titus and Nia are working together, but their plan is still unknown.
