And remember, I am making both Adam and Lilith complex : 3 and i would like to say those two and Eve are definitely tragic characters
The Past
Two bare looking figures stood face to face, their eyes meeting in confusion as a mass of greenery surrounded them. They found themselves with no memories to rely on, leaving them unable to understand who they were or their predicament.
However, as they continued to gaze at each other, a strange sensation washed over them; they felt a strong bond to one another, a connection that seemed to transcend anything else. Small smiles warmed their way on their lips and they both felt the deep urge to move closer to one another, hold each other, and never let go.
Then gentle lights shimmered around them, illuminating their surroundings. From the radiant glows emerged beings that looked different to them. The creatures had wings sticking on their backs and a glowing ring hovered over their heads.
They sang around the two confused figures. During their enchanting melody, the beings gave them their names, Adam, and Lilith. Told them they were human, created by them from dust, blessed to exist in their realms.
Adam and Lilith were in awe as they continued to learn who the creatures were, angels, they said, about their home, Garden of Eden, and about the lives given to them.
The angels told them they were married; they were husband and wife, and explained to them what it all meant, what they should do to create more of 'them'.
Truth be told, Adam and Lilith didn't understand why the angels wanted them to reproduce more humans. Instead, they were busy laughing as they splashed water on one another, climbing trees, holding one another as they lay on the soft grass, and learning more about their home. Better yet, they both enjoyed singing, so they would spend a lot of their time making up songs together of anything that came up in their minds.
For years they were happy, but, many times, Adam took charge, leaving Lilith for her voice to be heard more.
Adam wasn't sure how things ended up the way they did, but the other day, he was telling Lilith with excitement how they should go to the lake again and how they should explore what laid at the bottom. But Lilith had merely shaken her head and walked away without a word, disappearing from his sight since.
But, believing she would return, he waited patiently for her.
And waited and waited by a tree.
A couple of angels appeared by Adam and told him how they will create a new human for him who will obey his every word as they will be created directly from him. With a gentle touch, one angel reached into Adam's chest, a warm light emanating from within him as they extracted a replica of one of his ribs, causing him no discomfort.
He stared with confusion, then suddenly a stunning woman with dark features appeared before him, a radiant smile etched on her face before she offered a bow from her head.
Adam lay on a bed of flowers, their delicate petals caressing his skin. Above him, a tree provided shade for him from the sun. A gentle breeze danced through the leaves, carrying with it the sweet scent of blossoms for a moment, when suddenly, a strange sensation stirred within him. It was a sensation he had never experienced before, unsettling, like a whisper of unease brushing against his soul.
Confused, he opened his eyes and sat up. His gaze sweeping across the landscape before he looked up to notice the sky now bore a soft crimson color instead of the beautiful azure.
His heart started to beat fast, a disconcerting rhythm that thudded against his chest, and a knot tightened in his stomach.
Adam wasn't sure what was going on with him, but he rose to his feet and ran off to look for Eve, hoping she could help him with whatever was troubling him.
He eventually found her, kneeling upon the soft earth, her gaze fixated upon a red fruit with a single bite taken from its flesh. She wasn't alone, though. Lilith, who he hadn't seen in so long, stood near her. A pang of longing mingled with an inexplicable ache when he saw her. Then he noticed the sight of an angel, one he was unfamiliar with - he had met other angels in the past who had visited him.
The angel had a soft smile etched on his face as he watched Eve indulged in another bite; the sky taking a darker shade of red.
A disquieting sensation gnawed at Adam. Unease settled within him. His brow furrowed, his hand instinctively reaching for his chest as his heartbeat quickened with each bite taken by Eve. He felt the urge to knock the apple from Eve's hands, and he wasn't sure why.
"I… feel it," Lilith murmured to the angel, her voice barely above a whisper. "You did it. We are all free." She gave the angel a tender smile before she took the angel's hands. The angel returned the expression, but with more adoration.
However, Adam didn't share their feelings. Something stirred within him, something dark, and he glared at the angel across from him.
"What have you done…?" a voice suddenly spoke from above and for a moment there, Adam couldn't help but feel that he couldn't breathe.
Adam felt confused and afraid as he stood there before a pair of towering, golden gates.
He struggled to understand if he was in some sort of dream or figure out how he got there. Better yet, he wanted to know why golden wings seemed to be attached to his back as well.
The last thing he could recall was lying in a cave, Eve's worried face hovering above him, as she tried to soothe the fever that was consuming him with wet leaves on top of his body. His children, who he barely knew since he had worked tirelessly to keep them alive, were also gathered around him. And then darkness had swallowed him whole.
Suddenly, a chorus of voices filled the air. Angels descended from the skies, their celestial forms aglow with divine light as they danced and sang in jubilation. Among them, Adam recognized familiar faces, angels who had once visited him in the Garden of Eden.
"Welcome, our Adam, to Heaven," a small angel said, his voice infused with warmth and pride as he approached him. Adam blinked in astonishment and his heart swelled with a mixture of awe when the gates opened up in front of him to reveal a beautiful landscape, a city the angels informed him. He had never seen such a dazzling display before.
"And since you were the first human to be here, we gifted you with wings as powerful as ours," one of the other angels said with amusement.
Adam extended his golden wings, finally taking the sight of them. They were beautiful, so vibrant and they felt like limbs as he moved them.
"I'll definitely teach you how to use them soon," the angel said with fondness while other angels stared down at him - some with curiosity, others as if studying him.
"Of course, we expect you to be responsible with them," another angel, with rings for a head, countless eyes embedded in them, said to him. "They were not meant for a human, but the majority wanted to make some exceptions for you… So, don't make us regret blessing them to you."
Adam felt his stomach drop with fear and he quickly pulled his wings close to him, folding them by the side so they were not out in display as before; he didn't want to disappoint them and end up like Lilith.
The tallest of all angels approached him with a calm smile. "You shall serve as the great example for your fellow humans to follow, Adam. Your unwavering dedication to do as you were expected, despite the corruption that plagues your kind, is commendable. We hope many more continue to your path of virtue and aspire to join us in the realm of paradise."
Hearing her words made Adam feel a wave of relief washed over him. He hadn't felt so at peace in so long.
He grinned up at her before he followed the angels into his new home.
Adam wasn't sure how long he'd been there, but one thing was for sure, he'd been waiting for a while now… Actually, too long…
He was perched atop the tallest building in Heaven, on the edge, his tired gaze fixed upon the golden gates that stood tall and bright.
"Ah, Adam, I daresay you have a fondness of this spot," an angel, who had descended to his side, said with a warm smile.
Adam didn't respond, almost as if he didn't hear him.
"You were perched here the last time I laid eyes on you, and that was a decade ago," the angel chuckled.
Adam's gaze dimmed slightly as his heart began to ache a bit.
"Fret not, Adam. Another soul will surely arrive in due time," the angel reassured, his voice carrying a note of optimism.
"Sera said the same thing a long time ago," Adam responded quietly, his voice slightly hoarse from the lack of use.
"Indeed, entering Heaven is no small feat," the angel acknowledged, his smile unwavering. "We can't accept sinners, so we must await the arrival of a worthy soul. While humans may continue to..." He paused, a fleeting hint of frustration crossing his countenance before he banished it completely. "In time, one will be good enough. Though it may seem improbable, for none shall match your greatness, rest assured, their arrival will be worth the wait. Imagine the joy they will feel upon meeting the esteemed Adam when they finally arrive. Doesn't that sound delightful?"
Adam forced a faint smile on his face and nodded in agreement.
"Ah, our great Adam," the angel chuckled, before casting a glance skyward. "I must depart now for a meeting with my brethren. Perhaps you should seek solace from the lake—a refreshing bath would do you good," he suggested before taking flight.
The smile on Adam vanished as he turned back to the gates, his hand reaching over to his chest, palm pressing on it as the dark feeling that had appeared a long time ago began to hurt again, making him draw his wings closer to him to comfort himself.
Present
Charlie and her friends quickly rushed through the streets of the city of Pentragram – now she was definitely taking Angel's suggestion into consideration about getting a van or a car in the future so they could travel faster.
Eventually, the group arrived at their destination, pushing through the mass of people that had gathered around the site where the Heaven Embassy once stood. Now, only a vast expanse of barren soil stretched before them. No one seemed to dare to enter the empty space, as if afraid it would curse them, though there was someone out there. Charlie quickly spotted Adam's solitary figure in the center of the empty area, his back to them, his wings hanging limp at his sides.
"Holy shit, it's actually gone," Angel exclaimed, his voice tinged with fascination.
Each of them had received an alert on their phones regarding the sudden disappearance of the Heaven Embassy. Witnesses recounted how a brilliant light had engulfed the structure before it vanished.
"This can't be good," Vaggie commented.
"What do you mean, it's not good? If the clock tower's gone, doesn't that mean no more exterminations?" Angel asked with a grin. "I don't know about you, but I think it's hella great."
"Heaven isn't the sort to change their mind that easily with anything though," Vaggie retorted.
Charlie continued to stare at Adam, who stood motionless amidst the commotion. She noticed bystanders pointing fingers in his direction, some recording him with their phones while a news crew positioned their cameras to capture him.
"Guys," Charlie interjected, drawing her friends' attention. "We need to get Adam out of here," she urged before she dashed toward Adam.
"Charlie, wait!" Vaggie called out, attempting to grasp her arm, but Charlie was too quick, prompting Vaggie to chase after her. "Charlie!" she called out again while Angel and Husk also came with.
Charlie halted a few paces from Adam, Vaggie positioned protectively in front of her, her arm outstretched in case Adam suddenly attacked.
"Adam?" Charlie called out, attempting to garner his attention. Uncertain if he heard her, she observed him standing as still as a statue.
A sickening sensation churned in Charlie's stomach, especially as she took notice of the state of his wings, as she moved so she could see his face.
"Adam?" she tried once more, her heart constricting at the sight that greeted her.
Adam's head hung low, his eyes clouded and devoid of light. He cradled his left arm close to his chest, showing her that he had injured it somehow.
"I think he's in shock," Charlie muttered to her friends before she bit her lower lip. She called out his name again, this time louder.
At last, Adam snapped out of the daze he had been under. Blinking in confusion, he turned his gaze towards Charlie, his expression unreadable as he struggled to pull his thoughts together.
"Charlie?" the voice of her father sent Charlie to feel dread coursing through her. She looked up to see her father descending from the sky, landing beside her.
"Dad?" Charlie let out, feeling her heart race, because her father was the last person she wanted around at that moment as she tried to figure out how to deal with the situation that she found herself in. "What… what are you doing here?"
"The same reason everyone else is here, I guess," Lucifer remarked as he glanced over the throngs of sinners standing from afar. Some were chattering away, others still taking videos before them. "Were you here when it happened?" he asked her.
"No, but we heard from others," Vaggie explained to Lucifer.
Lucifer fell into a pensive silence before finally regarding the man with dark wings by them. At first, he didn't recognize who he was, but then slowly, his eyes widened in shock, his mouth hanging agape when he finally realized who he was staring at. Adam's eyes, now demonic looking, glared at him coldly.
Lucifer couldn't believe what he was seeing.
He couldn't believe Adam had horns and his wings were now ashen grey.
Some of his painful memories began to crawl back into Lucifer when he, himself, fell. His chest twisted, and he tried his best to not get stuck in his own flashbacks.
"Dad, please, before you-" Charlie began, but Adam interrupted her.
"What the hell did you do…?" Adam slowly made the words out as he did his best to suppress the fury that began to boil in him. "What the hell did you fucking do to the Embassy?" his voice trembled with rage as he took a menacing step close to her, prompting Lucifer to snap from his own demons and stand between Adam and Charlie.
"I swear, Adam, I didn't do anything," Charlie insisted, stepping aside from her father's protection to meet Adam's gaze to prove her honesty.
"Ah, okay, so it just decided to poof and vanish, got it," Adam said with a fake smile before dropping it. "You think I'm that fuckin' stupid or something, you fucking bitch?!" he snapped at Charlie.
"I'm telling you the truth!" Charlie argued back, failing to hold back her frustration. "I didn't make it disappear." She then turned to her dad with eyes pleading to believe her. "Seriously, Dad, I have no idea why anything is happening."
Lucifer's gaze flicked between Adam and Charlie, still unsure what to make out of Adam's appearance. "I think Heaven's behind this," he remarked.
"Heaven?" Charlie asked in confusion. "But, why?"
"Why do you think, you stupid shit?" Adam shot back. "You and your fuckin' losers attacked and killed some of my ladies. You think Heaven is cool with that fuckin' stunt?"
"And you," Vaggie added in, a smug smile on her face that seemed to irk Adam even more as he didn't know what she was talking about. "We also killed you."
"Uh, I'm still fuckin' breathing, vagina, so you didn't do squat," Adam retorted.
"Well, we can easily change that then," Vaggie said coldly, making her spear appear in her grasp as she took a step toward Adam, who remained unfazed.
"I want to see you fucking try, you fuckin' traitor."
"Guys, stop," Charlie jumped in, grabbing Vaggie's arm to stop her from getting into it with Adam. "Fighting isn't going to solve anything."
"I mean… it kind of did a week ago," Angel pointed out with amusement, earning a dark glare from Adam. "Again, how come we aren't taking him out right now?"
"Because there is no good reason to kill anyone, especially when they're extremely hurt, from the opposition side when a war ends, Angel."
"Ha, fuckin' hilarious if you think the war's done. Trust me, bitch, it's hardly even started," Adam scoffed. "And mark my words, y'all gonna fucking regret messing with me…"
"You aren't that bright, are you?" Husk questioned him with an eyebrow raised.
"I'm going to contact Heaven and see what's going on," Lucifer said in a serious tone before Adam had a chance to snap at Husk.
Charlie was caught off guard. Her dad didn't like talking to anyone from Heaven and this time around, she didn't have to push him into doing so.
Lucifer shot Adam a warning glare before red particles swirled around him before he vanished.
Adam watched Lucifer leave before he pulled his broken arm closer to him.
"So… are you, like, a fallen angel now or somethin'?" Angel dared to ask very casually, earning him a sharp glare from Adam. "Adam, the demon, kind of funny if you ask me. Too bad you don't got a tail, would make you look very sexy," he added, his tone teasing.
For a moment, Adam stared at Angel with a mixture of confusion and deep discomfort as Angel's words sank in. Then he snapped out of it. "What the hell did you just say to me, you piece of shit?" Adam spat.
"Jees, didn't think you lost your hearing too," Angel quipped, crossing his top arms across his chest, while the bottom two sat on his hips. "Don't tell me you haven't looked at yourself in the mirror yet."
Adam felt an intense urge to incinerate the demon on the spot, but as he learned earlier when he tried to unleash his angelic beam, he couldn't tap into his holy powers.
"Angel, please, don't antagonize him," Charlie scolded her friend. She glanced at Adam's injured arm, concern etched on her face. "We should take a look at that arm soon," she suggested, but Adam pulled away, taking a step back from her, eyes narrowed at her with hostility.
Then, from the corner of his eyes, he finally took in the demons surrounding the vacant space. Panic bubbled up inside him like lightning.
How did he not realize the enemy basically surrounded him?
His heart raced, and he instinctively drew his wings close, ready to take flight if necessary. He scanned the sky to see if there were any flying demons around that may attack him if he flew up.
Suddenly, his breathing turned shaky, and completely ignored Charlie's concerned voice when she called out his name.
No… no… he had to remain calm. He couldn't allow anyone to see him lose his shit. He was doing a great job holding it together and he will keep at it as long as he's breathing.
But damn it, he wondered why the clown was taking too long.
Just when he felt he should just find his own way to get to Heaven, the red particles appeared, and Lucifer stood before them again. Then a radiant portal materialized beside them.
"Fucking finally," Adam commented as a surge of relief washed over him, transforming his features into a genuine smile - a sight not lost on Charlie's, who was observing him. He knew Heaven would immediately retrieve him if they found out he was still alive.
"I'll be back," Lucifer told Charlie while Adam wasted no time in darting through the bright portal.
"Wait, dad, I'm coming too," Charlie said.
Lucifer shook his head. "Sorry, Charlie, but they-"
"I want to know why the Heaven Embassy is gone. I want to know if… Adam has fallen," she struggled to say, interrupting her dad.
"I mean, I think it's pretty obvious he's fallen, like your dad," Angel remarked with a shrug, earning stares from the group. "What? Come on, he literally has two horns sticking out of his head… You want him breathing fire outta his ass now or somethin' to prove he ain't an angel no more?"
"The only way I'll believe it is if I hear it from someone from Heaven."
"Why do you care so much if he's a sinner now?" Angel asked her with a frown. "Don't tell me you feel bad for him. Are you forgettin' he's the reason our friend is dead?"
"Of course I haven't forgotten," Charlie replied as she clutched her arms tightly, looking down at the ground with a heavy heart as Sir Pentious' smiling face flashed in her mind. "The thing is… these past months I've been trying to help one of you guys get to heaven, and I know we were all happy to prove how a soul has gone bad a week ago, but to know that I caused an angel to actually fall… well…"
Lucifer quickly grabbed her, forcing her to turn to her, grabbing on to her arms tightly.
"Charlie, listen to me," he spoke with a serious tone. "You are not to blame if Adam has fallen. Do you understand? You had nothing to do with it."
Charlie stared at her father's gaze, uncertainty clouding her eyes.
"And I mean it," Lucifer said, taking a softer tone this time. "There is no way in hell you would have caused someone to fall."
Charlie lowered her gaze down, taking in his words, but… she yanked herself from his grasp and ran into the portal without a warning.
"Charlie, no!" Lucifer called out with eyes blown with worry before he ran after his daughter, the portal closing after he went through.
"Yeah… well, I saw that coming," Angel remarked after a moment of silence. "So… are we just going to stand here or?"
Vaggie remained rooted in her place, looking up at the sky as she hoped nothing terrible would happen to her girlfriend. The only consolation was that Lucifer was going to be with her and she knew he would let no one or anything harm his daughter, no matter what.
