Present

"For a moment, the dickhead wasn't so bad," Angel said to Husk while he sat at the bar with Vaggie on his left, her arms crossed on the table and her head resting heavily upon them. Husk was preparing Angel a drink, reaching for a cocktail shaker and a bottle of gin while he eyed Vaggie wearing a deep frown.

She was replaying in her head how Adam appeared hurt with Charlie, calling him uncle, trying to find the logical sense to his reaction.

"Still think it's funny he actually called you after vagina," Angel snickered, aiming the jab at Vaggie.

She emitted an annoyed sigh and sat up. "I should've known better and kept my mouth shut," Vaggie grumbled.

"Hey, if it makes ya feel any better, the dickhead actually seemed proud of the name he gave ya," Angel pointed out.

Husk poured a generous amount of gin into the shaker, followed by a splash of vermouth and cubed ice. The former overlord then began shaking the concoction, the ice rattling against the metal shaker just as Vaggie gave Angel an annoyed look as a response.

"I'm serious," Angel said. "He admitted loving being called the original dick. So, he probably wasn't trying to be an asshole to you at all when he named ya."

"I have to agree with Angel there," Husk said, straining the drink into a chilled martini glass. Then he slid it over to Angel, who winked at him back for the drink. "He sounded sincere," Husk continued, all while he poured some more gin into the shake as he was going to make himself his own drink now. "In his own childish, half-assed manner."

"Now, I gotta know, how did he name your sisters?" Angel asked Vaggie before he took a sip of his drink.

"Rebel, Wildhair, Crash, Fury, Terminator," Vaggie listed a few in a deadpan tone.

"Huh…" Angel blinked before he let out a snort. "Ya gotta be kiddin' me. What the hell is wrong with him? Is he a child or somethin'?"

Husk paused from shaking the mixture and pondered his friend's words.

"Hey guys," Charlie greeted as she approached them, her demeanor noticeably brighter than it had been an hour earlier when Adam departed to his room.

Vaggie turned to face her. "You okay?" she asked, concerned.

Offering her girlfriend a reassuring smile, Charlie replied, "Yeah, I'm good. I think today went well, and we should definitely plan another 'get-to-know-each-other' session tomorrow."

Everyone in the room had mixed expressions in response to her statement.

"I know things ended pretty… awkwardly," Charlie continued, "but Adam started opening up. He willingly shared something about himself without us forcing him to, and I take that significant progress."

"Is it, though?" Angel asked her as he leaned against the table behind him.

"Remember, Angel, we can't rush things out, right? Baby steps. And honestly, finding out I have an uncle is, like, the best news I've gotten in a while."

"Charlie, you have many uncles up in heaven," Vaggie reminded her.

"She does?" Angel blinked.

"She means the uncles from my dad's side," Charlie clarified. "And, I mean, yeah, that's true, but this is from my mom's side, my mom's only brother. And he's a human. Anyway, finding out he's my uncle and meeting one for the first time is pretty cool, but…" She trailed off for a second before sighing and rubbing her arm, looking like she felt bad. "I'm happy to find out he's my uncle, but I also feel guilty for being happy since…"

"He killed a bunch of your people?" Angel prompted. "Or tried killing ya? I mean… you're already shacking with someone who snuffed out plenty of hell, so having the dickhead as your uncle is not as bad," he quipped with amusement. He received an annoyed glare from Vaggie, who then glanced away as she felt guilty over her own past actions wash over her just like any time someone would bring it up.

"Or is this because of Sir Pentious?" Husk inquired.

"I've already moved past him trying to kill me," Charlie began. "But… the other stuff, especially since I don't think he's even remorseful for what he did. It's just leaving me feeling torn about how I should even feel about him being family."

"Then get ready for more of that if you ever meet your old man's folk," Husk remarked, a hint of dry humor in his tone. "Especially since you mentioned they were the ones who gave the thumbs up for the extermination."

"Yeah… I guess that's true," Charlie sighed, then thought about Sera.

Was Sera her aunt now that she thought about it?

The grand entrance to the hotel swung open with Lucifer walking in, his face looking withdrawn. However, it lit up when Charlie called out to him with a bright smile. "Dad! I got some amazing news!" She waved at him and eventually he went over to them.

"Oh, boy, here we go," Angel muttered to Husk after leaning close to him, knowing what Charlie was about to tell her father. "We should have made some popcorn…"

Husk finally poured his drink into his own glass and watched the event unfold in silence.

Charlie took a deep breath. Excitement bubbled within her as she had pushed aside the mixed emotions from earlier regarding Adam being her uncle. "You know how Adam and Mom were made at the same time with the same dust?" she asked, unable to hold back the grin spreading across her face.

Lucifer blinked before giving her a nod. "Yes?" he replied.

"Well, we just realized that makes Adam Mom's twin. And him, my uncle. Isn't that awesome? Mom had a twin, and I had a human uncle this whole time!"

Lucifer said nothing with no emotion etched on his face and just stared at her daughter as she continued.

"I bet mom never realized it herself since Adam didn't know either. I was thinking of waiting to tell Mom in person. What do you think?"

Lucifer took a moment to gather his thoughts. "Charlie, Adam is not your mom's brother."

Charlie blinked, her smile slowly falling. "But it's true," she insisted. "Think about it. They were both created from the same dust, made by the other angels at the same time. It makes perfect sense."

"Charlie, how they were made means nothing," Lucifer sighed, shaking his head.

"So, if both Adam and Mom were to do one of those DNA tests that humans do on Earth now if they were alive back in the day, wouldn't they show some sort of match?"

Lucifer took a moment to consider the intricacies of DNA, the rules behind it, and how humans would consider one another as siblings before his eyes widened in shock when the realization dawned upon him. It was true. Humans would consider Adam and Lilith as siblings by human standards because of the significant similarities in their DNA.

How… did he not realize such a thing till now?

Charlie took her father's silence and surprise as a win. "See? They're related," she pointed out, her eyes sparkled with satisfaction.

Lucifer stood there frozen for a moment. "I… forgot to… to do this thing…" he let out with the worst excuse he could muster before he used magic to teleport himself away, leaving a very confused Charlie.

"Well, that went better than I expected," Angel pointed out with a chuckle.

"We shall see," Husk uttered under his breath as he doubted Lucifer was okay with Adam being related to Charlie at all and the fact Adam now knew of it.

"I think dad just needs to take a moment to process it all," Charlie said, then turned to Angel. "Um, Angel, I was also wondering, since you mentioned you wanted to cook more and were taking recommendations, if you'd considered a request for tomorrow's breakfast."

Angel arched an eyebrow, signaling with one of his lower hands for her to continue.

"Could you possibly whip up something gentle for Adam?" she asked. "I just realized, given that he has eaten nothing yet, the ribs I've been making might not be the wisest choice. I wouldn't want him getting sick. So, I was here thinking maybe something that would be easy for him to digest would be better and since you love cooking, well, thought you could take this as a challenge."

"Um… I guess I could rustle something up," Angel said, though his voice sounded uncertain. "But I can't promise he'll actually eat it."

"At this point, I'm just willing to try anything," Charlie admitted. "He's growing weaker every day, and it's killing me seeing him losing all that weight."

Angel nodded to her before he received a grateful smile from Charlie. Eventually, she and Vaggie wandered off, leaving Angel to throw his head back and let out a heavy groan. Husk arched an eyebrow.

"I really don't want to make anything for that asshole," Angel grumbled once Charlie was out of earshot. "He'll probably just chuck it at my face." Then a sly grin crept into his lips. "Then again, he ain't likely to pull that stunt with Charlie around, and she never said to make it taste good… did she?"

Husk rolled his eyes before gulping down the rest of his drink.

Lilith's daughter wasn't coming... And truth be told, he was glad she wasn't. The ache in his chest was unbearable as he replayed the way she called him her uncle, insisting they were family. He couldn't imagine having her there in the room taunting him with such an idea any further.

Family...

He supposed he had one, with Eve, even though they weren't that close... All he remembered from those days was him filled with stress and fear by having to figure out how to keep them alive every day of their existence. And at the same time… doing his best to hold on the anger he had towards her for eating that forbidden fruit and bringing them nothing but pain for so many years.

He pressed his lips into a thin line as he did his best to suppress thoughts as well of Sera and Emily and the rest of heaven since Emily pointed out how they were family…

He recalled how, during his visit on Earth with Lepin, humans interacted with their families. Saw how close a mom and dad would hold their kids affectionately, how close they sometimes seemed to be with other family members like with their brothers or sisters.

Adam's ears prickled at a strange, scratchy gasp reaching to his right. His eyes snapped open, and he sat up to see nothing but the black, long curtains on his right. The small light coming from the lamp on the bedside table seemed to suddenly shrink, casting a shadow on the far corner of the room.

There, within the shadows, a red glowing smile formed, its curve stretched impossibly wide, causing Adam's heart to boil with rage. He couldn't believe the cowardice of the red deer demon was trying to mess with him at this moment, especially as he wasn't in the mood. But then the smile widened further, revealing rows of white teeth like shards of broken glass instead of the yellow-stained ones he expected from the deer demon. Cold dread washed away his anger.

The figure was the same as the one in his most recent nightmare.

Adam stared with wide eyes as the form of a woman began to morph around the teeth. Her silhouette somehow looked darker than the shadows from which she seemed to emerge. He couldn't move, couldn't tear his eyes away from the figure that stood there, mockingly smiling at him. His mind screamed at him to run, to yell for Charlie, to blast the figure away, but his body refused to obey him. He told himself he was dreaming, just like before, that none of this could be true, yet the burning pain in his chest felt too real.

As the last vestiges of light faded, complete darkness plunged the room into darkness. Adam remained rooted to the spot as sweat formed on his brow, his heart pounding painfully against his chest as his breath came fast and shallow, just as the smile seemed to grow more twisted.

And then the figure vanished. The smile, the darkness, all gone, leaving Adam on his bed alone, his eyes glazed with shock, in the dimly lit room as it was before.

Adam's chest was heaving as his breathing came in ragged gasps as he blinked with utter confusion; he tried to make sense of what just happened. He glanced around the room quickly, bracing himself for the figure to pop right in front of him - he had seen too many horror movies in his lifetime - but nothing happened.

With a trembling hand, Adam reached over to his chest, the pain diminishing to just an ache, while he tried to calm his racing heart and his breathing.

"You're losing it," he muttered hoarsely to himself, thinking maybe the lack of eating or the constant exhaustion was messing with his mind. He wished now Charlie was in the room with him even though he was cursing himself for becoming so pathetic at keeping himself together.

He laid back down and pulled the covers over himself just as his wings wrapped around his body, mentally reassuring himself that he was okay, that there was nothing in the room, that Eve or whatever she wasn't messing with him, and to just go to sleep.

Yet... after so long of pushing her from his thoughts, he couldn't help but wonder now: What had become of Eve all this time?

He did not sleep at all. Who could blame him? He spent the entire night staring at the corner of his room, constantly feeling like the creepy smile could appear at any moment. He had told himself many times that the smile was all a hallucination, or that the fox demon was messing with him – he made a note to shatter that demon's teeth the next time Charlie was nowhere in sight.

He closed his eyes with a sigh, but then a sharp shattering noise jolted him back. Before he knew what was happening, a figure burst through the window. Adam rolled off his bed, but it was too late. He felt a searing pain in his left shoulder as a dagger plunged deep into his flesh. He let out a cry of agony as he hit the ground, feeling the weight of his attacker pressing down on him. Adam used his left wing to knock the sinner off before the second dagger struck his head, although he lost some feathers to the blade.

Growling, Adam rose to his feet, glaring darkly at the assailant, who glared back with malice in his gaze. "Fuck you, you asshole!" the sinner spat, waving his dagger menacingly. "Now fucking die!"

The door burst open with Vaggie jumping into the room with her spear in hand. "Adam!" Charlie called out from the doorway, her eyes wide with worry.

Realizing he was outnumbered, the sinner snarled in frustration and swiftly dashed past Adam towards the shattered window to escape. But Adam, feeling the pain radiating from his shoulder, caused his body to tremble with pure hatred as his golden eyes flashed. He shot his right hand at the sinner, who was about to jump out through the window.

"Adam, don't!" Charlie cried out, but he ignored her pleas as he unleashed a wave of blazing fire, engulfing the sinner, and obliterating half the room in the process.

"So much for the hotel no longer getting attacked," Angel said aloud as he placed some ingredients into the blender. "And him getting weaker," he let out under his breath. He was honestly starting to feel unsure if they should help Adam fully recover.

"What were you thinking?!" Vaggie lectured Adam with anger as he sat in a chair by the kitchen's island, with Charlie gently rubbing his right shoulder. The upper portion of Adam's shirt was cut away, revealing the dagger wound to Husk, who stood right behind him with a thoughtful face.

"Vaggie, please, not right now," Charlie said to her girlfriend.

"He could have incinerated us, Charlie."

"But he didn't," Charlie countered softly.

Just then, Adam let out a cry of agony as Husk yanked the dagger out of his shoulder without warning. "What the fuck!?" Adam snapped, his golden eyes blazing with anger as he glared at Husk.

"Calm down, didn't want you tensing up on me," Husk retorted casually, unfazed by Adam's outburst, then pressed a cloth with antiseptic against the wound, drawing a hiss from Adam. Adam tried to pull away, but Charlie kept him in place with her hand on his right shoulder.

"It's okay, Adam," Charlie said, grabbing onto his right hand and rubbing her thumb over it. "Husk is going to make it better, I promise."

"Doesn't fuckin' feel like it," Adam whined with annoyance, letting out a loud groan while Husk cleaned the area around the wound. "He's making it worse!"

"Don't be such a baby," Angel commented.

"Oh, sure, let's just fuckin' pretend this doesn't suck at all," Adam snapped at the sinner. "Fuck you!"

"I know it hurts, Adam," Charlie said quietly. "And you're being so brave right now. Just try to hang in there, okay?"

"Really wished for those painkillers now, huh?" Angel teased Adam since the painkillers went out with the blast as well.

Adam growled in response, just as Angel turned on the blender.

Husk eventually stitched Adam up since the wound was deep enough to require it, ignoring the constant groans and whining emitting from Adam, and not long after, he bandaged the wound. Adam glanced down at his shoulder with an exhausted expression. The lack of sleep, releasing a powerful attack, and enduring so much physical pain had taken a lot out of him.

"There, all better," Charlie smiled at Adam. "And don't worry, I called the doctor earlier, and he'll be coming in with a new bottle of painkillers for you."

Adam didn't comment. Angel placed the smoothie in a glass in front of him. "Bon appétit," Angel said with a chuckle, holding back his mischievous glint from his eyes. The fallen angel looked up at the porn star with confusion.

"I asked Angel to make you something for breakfast," Charlie explained gently to him.

"Why the fuck is it green?" Adam mumbled with suspicion.

"It's a green smoothie," Angel explained. "It has kale and spinach."

Adam wrinkled his nose with disgust, leaning away from the drink as if it were poison.

"Adam, you haven't eaten in a few weeks," Charlie said. "You really need to eat something."

Adam's gaze fell to his lap, now feeling the pain in his stomach from the starvation he had been putting himself through.

'Look at yourself. We can hardly recognize you.' Sera's cold words replayed in his mind, making his chest grow tight and more nauseous to even look at the liquid meal.

"Adam, what's wrong?" Charlie asked him, growing concerned.

The oven timer went off. Angel approached it to open the oven door, revealing the golden-brown pig-shaped bread nestled on the rack inside.

"If you manage to down all that, then you can treat yourself to one of these beauties," Angel teased, placing the baked goods onto the waiting island countertop near Adam's smoothie.

Adam glanced at them silently.

"I used to bake these all the time for my sister," Angel told his friends. "A neighbor taught me how to make them. They were her favorite. They're called marranitos."

"Aww, they're -" Charlie was cut off.

"They look like shit," Adam drawled out, prompting a glare from everyone except for Charlie, who was stunned at his comment. "Molly's are way better."

Angel's expression hardened for a moment before a wave of realization hit him like a ton of bricks when he backtracked to what Adam just said. "Wait… what… the fuck did you just say?" he stuttered, his mouth going dry.

The others remained silent as well, especially as they also picked up Adam saying Molly's name, their gazes fixed on Adam.

"I said Molly's are better," Adam repeated himself, even though he hated doing so. "Nowhere near as pretty as hers. I mean, look at them. Don't even look like pigs. At least hers had a mouth and eyes, oh, and a longer tail."

Angel's eyes widened. "You… know my sister…?" he let out, his voice barely above a whisper.

"I'm guessin' she's your sister, since she looks like you, 'cept she don't look like a whore," Adam replied bluntly. "Oh, and she's fuckin' nice too."

"Molly… is in heaven?" Angel murmured to himself, stunned by the news. But then, gradually, a sense of relief washed over him, a small smile tugging at his lips as tears welled in his eyes.

"Angel?" Vaggie's voice broke through. "Are you okay?"

Angel didn't immediately respond. He closed his eyes, trying to gather his thoughts.

At first, he thought Adam was maybe messing with him, but the fallen angel didn't seem like the sort to lie about such things.

"For the longest time, I was clueless about what happened to her," he began, his voice trembling with emotion. "When I died and landed my ass in this joint, I was scared as shit she'd end up here too. I searched for her, every damn day for years, but also hoped she'd never end up in this awful place. 'Cause, she was one of the good ones, didn't deserve this hellhole. But there were moments, y'know, when I thought to myself: what if she somehow ended here too? I had to find her, protect her. When I sold my soul to Valentino, I convinced myself it was better to keep myself away from her. I didn't want to drag her into my crap. So, I quit lookin'… all while still afraid she was somewhere out there in hell. But now, knowin' she's up there in heaven and not down here… I…" Angel's throat tightened as he couldn't keep himself from crying, tears trailing down his face. "Fuck," he choked out, covering his face with his upper two hands while the other two wrapped around himself. "I haven't felt this damn happy in ages…"

Husk went over to him, placing a comforting hand on Angel's back softly.

"Why the hell are you happy about?" Adam interjected with a frown. "You're not up there with her. You're stuck here, idiot. You'll never get to see her again."

Angel let out a sad chuckle, doing his best to dry his eyes with his hands, though they continued to water. He glanced up at Adam, devoid of anger, emitting nothing but happiness and bliss, stirring something strange in Adam's chest, leaving him perplexed.

"You dick," Angel said without a hint of malice in his tone. "Sure, I'd give anything to see her again. But knowin' she's up there in heaven, safe and happy… it's the best I could wish for her." He paused to steady himself, his voice cracking with emotion. "Can't believe I'm sayin' this to you, but..." He then offered Adam the warmest smile his friends had ever seen from him. "Thanks..."

The words stunned Adam into silence, unsure how to react. Because he didn't know what Angel was thanking him for and still didn't understand why Angel was so happy.

"I think this calls for a hug?" Charlie teased, expecting Angel to reject the idea.

To the astonishment of all, Angel chuckled and shrugged after he managed to stop his tears. "Yeah, why the hell not?" he agreed, making Charlie's mouth hang in surprise, while Adam looked annoyed, his urge to swipe Angel away suppressed by Charlie's presence. Before Adam could muster any words to protest, Angel went over and pulled Adam into an embrace, all four of his arms wrapping around Adam.

Adam blinked with confusion, finding his body, at first tense like a rock, immediately relaxed like putty by how all four arms held him. He felt the warmth coming from the humanoid spider, which made him feel…

The hug… actually felt nice… especially when Angel tightened his hold on him.

Adam felt as though he was under a spell, his body melting against Angel's, his head leaning on Angel's chest as he closed his eyes. The sinner's chest felt like a firm, soft pillow… a very warm one, at that.

He could sleep peacefully in such embrace…

"And because of that, I'm not letting ya drink that gross smoothie," Angel declared, pulling away from Adam, who frowned with disappointment as the hug ended and almost let out a whine, but he held back. "I'll make it taste heavenly," Angel joked as he took the glass and headed to the fridge to find something to flavor it with.

Charlie placed a soft hand on Adam's arm. "That was very kind of you, Adam."

"But I didn't do shit," Adam grumbled, once again finding himself not understanding anything. His eyes trailed over to Angel, yearning to be held by the porn star again.

"You did more than any of us had been able to do to help him," Husk remarked, wearing a calm smile of his own.

Adam's brows furrowed in confusion, prompting Husk to chuckle at his obliviousness to his own actions, all while Vaggie stood there, observing the scene with her own dilemma, especially as she witnessed how Angel and Husk were warming up to Adam.

Angel blended some fruit into the green smoothie and offered it to Adam, who hesitantly took it, but just stared at it with a bit of fear.

"Oh, here," Angel quickly opened a drawer to take out a straw before sticking it into Adam's smoothie, as if that would motivate Adam to drink it.

Adam had the urge to drop the glass to the ground, but something was holding him back.

"I promise it's gonna taste good," Angel said as he leaned over the table with a grin to encourage him.

Adam hesitated, his eyes flickering with uncertainty. Sera's words once again replayed in his mind, making his stomach churn with anxiety. He felt sick and couldn't help but place the drink back on the table, his wings folding closer to his sides.

Vaggie grew irritated by Adam's behavior. In the past, she had seen him indulge himself without hesitation. His refusal to eat now didn't make sense. He was making a pathetic display of himself to gain everyone's favor, and it seemed to be working, judging by how Angel was now looking at Adam with almost the same concern as Charlie.

"Adam, is this about what… she said to you?" Vaggie heard Charlie ask Adam gently. Vaggie wasn't sure who she was referring to as Charlie continued. "What she said to you was… not okay. She shouldn't have shamed you like that, especially in front of others. You didn't deserve that."

It was at this moment that Vaggie recalled some words Charlie had said to her and the others when they found out Adam was at the hotel.

'What happened up there, it was bad… like, very bad. I… I don't even know where to start, but I… I couldn't abandon him. I had to bring him here.'

Meanwhile, Adam took in Charlie's words, but he seemed to withdraw into himself more.

However, Charlie would not let him continue like that. She had a feeling if she didn't address the issue now, it would be harder to do so later.

She rose from her seat. "Adam, please get up," Charlie said gently, and slowly he complied, his towering frame dwarfing Charlie.

He expected her to send him off to his room, even though it was half-gone. He imagined she was probably disappointed with him for not doing as asked by not drinking the smoothie.

But instead of pushing him away, Charlie surprised him by throwing herself into his arms, wrapping her arms tightly around him, her head pressed against his torso, where he carried a bit of weight. Adam's wings slightly shifted up as he stood there, taken aback by her sudden gesture, one he wasn't against at all, especially as he felt a wave of warmth washing over him from her touch.

Charlie looked up at him with soft eyes and a gentle smile. "I knew it," she said, causing Adam to grow even more confused. "Hugging you is the best. It's like… hugging a huge teddy bear." She pressed her cheek against him again, which felt so nice. "Sera doesn't know what she's missing…"

Adam's confusion melted away, his eyes glazing over at this moment, his wings lowering down. Even though they craved to wrap around Charlie, he kept them down.

She made him recall how many human ladies back in heaven did seem to enjoy throwing themselves around him after a concert. None of them looked even a hint disgusted by him. They would press against him as if they couldn't get enough of him.

"Yeah, screw whoever called you fat," Angel chimed in, his voice dripping with disdain after putting the details together. "They're a bunch of assholes. Now, sit down and drink this damn smoothie. Believe me, it's tasty, and it's gonna make you feel better."

"If you're not happy with your body, there are other ways to address it than starving yourself," Charlie added. "We'll help you find another way. You're not alone in this. But just so you know, you're already amazing as you are."

"And if you don't like the smoothie, then Angel will make one until you do," Husk added calmly.

Charlie released Adam from her embrace and smiled at him encouragingly as she settled back into her chair. Adam eventually did the same. He still felt anxious, but not as bad as earlier.

Angel nudged the smoothie closer to Adam. "I'll give you another hug if you give it a shot," he teased with a smirk.

Adam hesitated; his throat tight with apprehension. But with Charlie's kind gaze urging him on, Angel grinning at him, and his stomach churning more than ever for food, he took a deep breath and reached for the smoothie – he also wanted to avoid his mind playing tricks on him like it did earlier that day. He plopped the straw into his mouth and slowly took a small sip.

He blinked. The smoothie was sweet, not as overly sweet as the milkshakes he has had during his lifetime. And even though the green color made it look like it would taste like grass, it was nothing but a delicious blend of flavors on his tongue.

Now, it was Adam's turn that day to feel a shower of relief through his soul at the fact he didn't throw up as he thought he would by finally 'eating' something, making his eyes moisten up a bit.

"Well, Dickmaster, how is it?" Angel asked curiously.

"It's good…" Adam mumbled, his eyes avoiding direct contact, but a small smile made its way to his lips as he continued to drink his smoothie.
