The Prologue: Another Sunny Day
(3rd Person)
Allister and Grace, ages 10 and 11. The two were inseparable. Allister was the son of an ex-soldier and a nurse. Grace was the daughter of a baron and baroness. They met in an alley, and while their parents discussed the past, they played. Their bond grew, and they began seeing each other frequently.
One sunny day, they each escaped their respective houses and stole away to a small street hidden behind a pile of boxes that only they knew about. They did this often, on other similar sunny days. Allister laughed as he threw Grace a small, blue ball, his messy brown hair flopping in front of his bright, blue eyes. Grace caught it, giggling, her golden hair shining in the sun. She threw it back at him, the ball missing and going in a dark side street. Their giggling slowly died as they looked down into the darkness that enveloped their toy.
"I'll go get it," Grace said, starting to move before Allister stopped her.
"It isn't right for a soldier to let a lady do the hard work," he informed her, grinning. She smiled back, pushing him forward.
"Then go get it, tough guy," she snickered. He gulped comically, and, gasping in a breath of air, rushed into the darkness as if it were a pool of water.
Grace found herself laughing at Allister's act. She turned around to sit down on a box as her hero looked for the ball, but was greeted by the presence of a tall man. Startled, Grace let out a squeak, backing up away from the looming figure.
"Hello sir," she said, eyes wide. Despite her fear, she made sure to remember her etiquette lessons.
"Hello," a deep voice responded. Grace shuddered. It sounded cruel and raspy. Then, he reached out for her.
Allister had just grabbed the ball when he heard Grace scream. He ran out of the alley, dropping the ball as he saw Grace struggling with the large man. She was kicking around, crying and screaming wildly.
"Grace!" he cried, running up to the man and kicking him below the waist. The man grunted, dropping Grace.
"Run and get help," Allister told her, helping her up.
Her eyes widened. "What about you?" she questioned, eyes teary.
"A soldier never lets a lady get hurt," he said, offering a smile. "Now, run!"
She nodded and ran towards her house as Allister turned to the fuming man he had just attacked.
Grace's parents were relaxing in the lounge. They had invited Allister's parents over for tea, and the four of them sat around the table as Allister's older sister, Erin, read a book on the arm chair. The air was calm, and the atmosphere was amicable. The pleasantness of the house was broken by Grace's wails.
"Mom!" she bawled, running and hugging her mother from the side.
"What's wrong, dear?" her mother asked, confused and concerned that her child was crying. "Where's Allister?"
Grace looked up at her mother. "There was a scary man where we were playing. Allister is with him!"
Hearing this, the other parents sat up, alarmed.
"Bring us there!" Allister's father exclaimed, drawing his sword.
The group made haste, with Grace's mother staying behind with Erin. When they arrived, they saw no sign of the man or of Allister. In the days following, they got help from the community, setting up search parties for the missing boy. Eventually, the man was found just outside of town, covered in dozens of cuts. They brought him to town, barely breathing and suffering from blood loss. When questioned, he refused to reveal his identity or the location of Allister.
Allister's father, Pelleas, brought his party to the outskirts of town. The party happened upon a cave, shown to be recently in use. There were numerous maps and diaries, and a disturbing amount of pictures of Grace.
"Captain!" a man shouted. Pelleas made his way to the man, before gasping. It was a finger.
After the raid on the man's cave, there was no sign of Allister besides the finger. From the man's diaries, they discovered that the man was called Ganondorf. He claimed to be the last of a group of legendary heroes and villains from myth, and that Grace was the host of the hero Zelda's spirit. No one believed him, leaving him to rot in the prison in the dying hope that he would reveal where Allister was.
The day following the raid on Ganondorf's cave, Grace began hearing a voice. For a few days, she was bed bound, muttering nonsense and crying nonstop. Then, a voice spoke from her.
"What Ganondorf says is true," the voice said. "I am Princess Zelda, a fallen fighter. Others like me are looking for hosts of their own to stop an evil who is trying to return. We are spirits of the fallen, and we are led by the Originals."
