STAR TREK
"Knowing the Alpha"
It was adrift in space. Around a gas giant, a sixteen-year-old saw the spaceship with his telescope. His name was Don Silo. Don Silo lived on a moon and was not the best student. He lived with his mother and was flunking out of high school. Therefore, he took the three hundred credits she gave him as a birthday present and used it to invest in transport to the spaceship. Since it was in Orion space, a shuttle from the Orion Syndicate would have to take him to the distant DY-100 class spaceship. He had never seen space before. Sky was the name of his Orion pilot. She was a slave. She could not keep her hands off him. Apparently, he paid too much for the trip. They installed a warp booster pack to arrive at their destination. Before them was his prize – an unclaimed DY-100 class spaceship. It had two cargo carriers. One of which contained a shuttlebay complete with a force field. A Klingon listening device was inside. Sky landed the shuttle. It was sealed in by the force field. As a new captain, Don Silo named it the Alpha. Then a Klingon battlecruiser came out of high warp for the kill. Don and Sky ran to the bridge. The Klingons came in too fast. The IKV Stalker collided with them as they attempted evasive maneuvers. The freighter sustained a hull breach. They put on breathing masks and ran. There was a security breach which allowed a mutiny on board the Klingon ship. A boom separation also took place. Don forced Sky to escape in the shuttle. She did not hesitate. He put on a thruster suit and disappeared through the gaping hole in his ship. He blasted towards the separated boom section of the Klingon battlecruiser. It was halfway within the gas giant's atmosphere when he got there. As he opened up an airlock, blue sky followed him into the boom section. He closed it holding a laser pistol. The blue sky turned into a liquid around his feet. He faced a locked door. Don blasted it in search of a transporter room. Behind the door were two soldiers. The liquid burned them. Gravity was compromised by how close they were to the gas giant. Captain Silo was in gravity boots. There was no evidence of a mutiny on the boom – which was the nature of the boom separation. He was trapped. The transporter room was filled with Klingons trying to escape just as he was. They would all beam to safety. The mutiny proved unsuccessful. Don Silo was taken to the brig. Yet, he was not a prisoner. As they forced off his thruster suit, he turned to see his own father there. His father happened to be a businessman. The captain of the Stalker extended an invitation for them to dine with her. It was accepted. At first, everything went fine. Then she demanded their worship. It wasn't the human thing to do. For that, Don was stunned from behind. He didn't even see it coming. Sky disengaged towards the Orion Syndicate. Unfortunately, warp booster packs were only good for one-way trips. She eventually died of oxygen deprivation. The IKV Stalker would simply take advantage of the orbit of things around them to return home. The reason Don Silo was still alive was to be put in a coliseum. He was there against an unstoppable foe they found on Talos IV. No one even knew what it looked like. It was able to manipulate the minds of those around it. They were fighting over a communicator. It was not fun. Don couldn't land one hit. In this fight to the death, the crowd bet against him. Then his attacker created circumstances that knocked him over the edge of the coliseum. He fell hard on his back but did not lose consciousness. He would laugh. The crowd began cheering for him. His enemy was extremely sensitive to sound. It fled as it lost its powers. Don walked after the little green critter. It got to the communicator first. Then Don Silo killed it with his boot. In time, it was proven he was a civilian and was returned to his moon.
