Ch.1: Welcome to Duel Academy
(Author note: Before we dive right in the story, there is a few changes here to address. To start things off this is more a "What if" scenario; What if the main character was replace with an Original Character, in other words, if those you like Jaden Yuki, afraid to say he won't be in here at all. Secondly like many other stories, I'll be throwing in my own cards. In other words, cards that are not real, the cards I'll have the original character using is a custom Arch-type I created. In a similar way, but not really, like Jaden being the incarnation of the Supreme King, the character that replaced him will have a past life almost like that, however he will know of his heritage from the start. Anyways that is all for now, enjoy. P.S. I don't not own the original characters feature in the show, only the OC as well as his parents (name, not true appearance.), and deck Arch-type.)
This story begins within a large stadium with an audience of young Duelist, watching future classmates, dueling for a chance to take a spot in Duel Academy. Some of the Entrée's either put up a good show, winning or losing, others not so well. Most eyes were on a duel with an Examiner and a young lad with sleek black hair.

"With my Gear Golem the Moving Fortress' high defense power you have no chance in taking him down, and if you could, my Trap card would keep any monster from attacking him."
"That may be." The lad stated, "But I calculated this very situation from the start, and had everything planned out to win this duel right now! I activate my Trap Card, Ring of Destruction!"
The large holographic card stood up revealing the card he just activated, before the image emerged for the card, a metal neck-like brace attached with eight grenades floating behind the Vorse Raider.
"And just how will that work? My monster's attack power is lower than my remaining Life Points."
"I never said I was using it on your monster." The lad gave a smirk as the Ring snapped around the neck of his own monster, "And just as you stated but in reverse, My Life Points are higher than my Vorse Raider's attack, while yours is much lower."
Upon the realization, the Ring self-destructed, destroying the vicious beast and clouding the field with dust as the Examiner grunted in defeat.

"That was an excellent play young man." He commented, "You'll be a fine addition to Duel Academy. Congratulations, on your victory."
"An obvious, conclusion." The lad replied, walking off the arena and began to look for an empty seat.
"Wow, that was smart play he did there." A younger boy with light sky-blue hair spoke softly.
"You got that right." A voice responded as the young boy let a startled yelp looking behind him, seeing a lad in his mid-teens, slight spiked jet-black hair with white tips, "Most people would use that trap with its sister Quick-Play Spell Ring of Defense, and destroy the opponent's strongest monster while protecting their Life points. But he knew he'll win by using it on his own monster."
As the young man looked at the boy, he gave a friendly smirk as the boy looked at him in more awe than surprised, not only the unusual hair color, but his eyes as well, one crimson red and the other a deep sky-blue.
"There was no other way insure my victory."
The two looked as the lad who just finished his duel sat down near them, "Plus as I stated I planned that to happen."
"How do you plan for something like that?" the young boy asked, "I calculate in advance, and each move that is made goes right into the equation."
"Wow a Heavy thinker here." The strange man remarked, friendly of course, "I just rely on luck and my Dragons to get me victory."
"Oh, a Dragon user than. I'll just have to make a slight addition to my deck for our duels than."
"If you plan on using Dragon Capture Jar, I do have a Dragon that will stop that card from 'catching' them."
Both boys looked at the strange lad as smiles confidently, "Anyways, what are your names?"
"Oh, w-well I'm Syrus." The young sky-blue boy softly spoke, looking back down, "And I just barely passed my performance duel."
"I did notice that," the strange teen spoke, "Although, it seems you just have a small case of stage fright as well as a confidence issue is all. Nothing like good friends and practice won't fix."
"I will have to agree, and by the way I'm Bastion Misawa." The strapping young lad spoke, "And what is out so-called friend is called?"
Before he could speak an Academy Secretary, spoke into a Microphone, "Draco Kaitos? We are ready for your Performance Entrance Exam."
"Oh, well got to go." The strange teen spoke before making his way down the steps.
"Draco Kaitos?" both Syrus and Bastion question, before he smiled and looked back at their dumb-found confused faces.
"Yeah, I come from a…. unique family." He simply said as he continues to make his way down to the arena. Meanwhile, on the other side of the stadium, some students were mocking the name being called, acting stuck-up spoiled brats.
"What kind of fucked up name was that?" one girl spoke, "Who knows, it's clear that whoever that person is, his parents don't love him." Another added.
"No shit." An arrogant voice spat out, getting the girls to look between them, "It's clear it's a nobody. Low born scum, wanting make it big, but doesn't have the skills to get there."
Both girls sighed out, leaning into the boy as he smirks cockily, wrapping his arms around them, even groping their chests in public as they softly stroke his chest.
"Not like you, Chazz~." The one on his cooed out, "You have the skills, and money to be the best~."
"Of course, because I wasn't born a fucked name nobody loser."
A few feet above all that, leaning over the rail was a young girl, about 16 in age, long-mid length blonde hair, beautiful golden eyes, as she leaned her head into her hand as she sighed out, "Well, that name is one for strange things heard in a life time record." She said, "What do you think Zane?"
Looked slightly to her right stood a young man about three years older than her, slight spiky teal hair with matching eyes, giving a cold glare to the stage as he watched the teen enter and stood, waiting for his examiner to enter the arena.
"I don't care." He coldly stated, "If this punk doesn't put up a good show he doesn't deserve to be in the Academy."
"As blunt and cold as always." The girl thought to herself, "Why do you care, Alexis?" the now known, Zane asked, "Just wanted to get another opinion is all." Alexis replied before looking slightly shocked at the Examiner raising from a trap door, "Oh come on, why is HE being the one to test him?"
"Hmm, maybe we can finally see that rare card of his." Zane stated.
Back to the Arena as two assistants helped the Examiner with his unique duel disk, or vest, before leaving the arena for the two to begin, "So you're Draco Kaitos?" he asked, narrowing his eyes trying to stare the young man down.
"That I am." Draco replied, not fazed by the stare down, "And just who is my opponent? It is respectful for both to know each other's name."
"I am Dr. Vellian Crowler." The Examiner replied, "PhD in Dueling as well as the number one professor at Duel Academy."
"Oh?" Draco asked, "What exactly do you teach at the Academy?"
"Why, Basic and Advance deck building of course." He arrogantly spoke highly, "But enough of this time-wasting chit-chat."
The Duel Vest activates, as Draco throws his arm in front of him, showing off his custom duel disk, looking more dragon like, a claw holding his deck, as a real dragon would to its treasure, a head that locates the Graveyard, or cards devoured by said dragon, as the disk activates, the field spreads open like a dragon's wing. Some students whispered in silent complimenting the custom look, while stuck-up rich kids claimed it to be "flashy"
"DUEL" both yelled out.

"Slackers first, boy." Dr. Crowler snickered out, insulting the teen.
"He's going to regret that." Draco thought, "Draw!"
Looking in his hand, starting with three monsters, and three spells, "Hmm, not the best but it'll work for now." He pondered, "Alright Doc, I'll start by summoning Heimwahl, the Dragon Guard Blacksmith in Defense mode!"
"Who the Dragon What Blacksmith?" Crowler remarked, clearly confused.
Draco, placed the monster he chose to summon sideways, followed by on the field the hologram began to materialize in sparkling light, revealing a scruffy anthro dragon, leaning over an anvil, scar over his right eye, having two metal nails in his mouth like tooth picks, and his forging hammer in his right hand, looking bored.

"I'm also going to activate this Equip Spell Card, Shield of the Dragon Guard!" Draco took a second card from his hand and slid it in a slot under his monster, a shield materialize on the Blacksmith's left arm, a light blue for the base, with what seems to be black smoke waving from it, a golden star at the top of the shield's face with a ruby embedded into it, and two golden dragons one craved on each side of it.
DEF/2500-3000
"Very interesting, giving yourself a high defender right of the bat." Crowler commented, "With that my turn is over." Draco announced.
"I never heard of that Arch-group of cards before." Alexis said slightly raising her head from her hand.
"Nor have I." Zane bluntly said, "It must have been just recently released cards. I guess this punk will put up a good show after all."
"My turn." Crowler stated holding his hand to his chest as the duel vest beeped and shot a card out into his hand. Looking into his hand he gave a wide smile, "I shall start by playing Confiscation! With which, by paying 1000 of my Life points I can look into your hand and force you to send one to the Graveyard! Now boy, show me your hand!"
Crowler LP:4000-3000
Draco sighed as holograms appeared in front of Crowler as he looked at the four cards he had, "Mmm I remember this one when I was stupid rookie, say good-bye to Monster Reborn!"
The hologram disintegrated, Draco sighed out as he took the card in his hand and sent it to the grave, "Now I Set two cards face-down and then activate the Spell Heavy Storm!"
"Wait. You just set two cards and now destroying them?" Draco questioned the method, before his eyes slightly widen, "Unless, their effects can only be used if they are face-down and are destroyed?"
"You catch on, Slacker." Crowler, chuckled as a powerful maelstrom of wind blasted on the field destroying the two face downs, before two golden lion headed snake statues with samurai helmets appeared before Draco, "My beautiful Wicked Tokens! However, they are not going to stay as I tribute both of them to Summon my Ancient Gear Golem!"
The two statues disappeared before a large rusting metal golem emerged from the ground behind Crowler, cogs turned and clanked as its red robotic eye lights up, before standing over the field looking down at Draco.

"Oh shit." Draco muttered. Back at the seats, Syrus looked too shocked for words, as Bastion was deep in thought, trying to think of ways to bring that monster down, on the other side, Chazz leaned his head back scoffing at what he sees as Draco's humiliating defeat, still groping the girl in his left while he was slowly fingering the girl on his right, hearing them both moan for more.
"That jerk, using his real deck and not an approved Examine Deck." Alexis scoffed, "Glad he didn't now we get to see Crowler's strongest card and all of its power."
"Now my monster, destroy his weak and pathetic defense, Mechanize Melee!"
The giant machine's cogs rapidly increased in speed before the Golem reared its right arm and thrust its fist to the defending dragon, a cloud of dust erupted from the crash as Crowler mocking laughed at the destruction.
"What the bloody hell, you court jester!?" a voice sudden shouted and insulted from the cloud with a thick Scottish accent, "Get your bloody metal puppet's fist off of me before I decided to reduce it to scrap and forge in into a set of armor for me comrades!"
"I'm sorry who is talking over there?!" Crowler asked extremely puzzled, before his Golem stubbled back, the dust settled revealed Draco's monster untouched and still having the Shield, "Hold on, how is that still out?! My Heavy Storm destroyed all Spells and Traps!"
"What kind of Blacksmith, would let what he created be destroyed so easily?" Draco asked, "That is Heimwahl's ability, he prevents my Equip Spell Cards from being destroyed once per turn."
"Humph! Guess I'll end my turn." Crowler sneered, clearly disappointed he didn't get the results he wanted.
"Alright, draw!" Draco drew a card and grin with the spell he just gained, "I will use Ancient Rules! With this, I can Special Summon a Normal Monster from my hand. I choose to Special Summon Kendov, the Dragon Guard Fighter in attack mode!"
Draco played his second monster another anthro dragon appeared, this time, standing in a battle ready pose, long length silver hair dark purple otter scales with a lighter purple under belly scales piercing red eyes, purple talons and having martial arts wristbands and loincloth, the straps being a shade of purple while the cloth is a dark crimson, being lengthy.

Some girls began to fangirl over how "hot" and "sexy" he looked, "I also play this card face-down. Ending my turn."
"Well someone seemed to forgotten the basics." Crowler smirked with a slight giggle, drawing his card and not bothering to look at it, "Ancient Gear Golem, attack that eye-sore!" pointing at Kendov. The Golem wasted no time ready to strike the new dragon.
"Oi, you rusted bucket of bolts!"
The Ancient Gear Golem stopped before slightly tilting its head looking at Heimwahl, "Don't you want to get even with me? After all you are nothing but a waste of metal not even worthy to be put to good use!"
The Golem changed its target slamming its fist into the shield once more, "What is the meaning of this?!" Crowler snapped, "I ordered it to attack the other dragon!"
"That's the Shield's ability." Draco stated, smiling confidently, "While the monster is in Defense mode, he will be the only attack target."
Crowler grinds his teeth in frustration, "Grr you Slacker, I end my turn!"
Draco, drew his card and looked at it, giving a grin that seem to cause his eyes to flash, "This ends now, Doc. I activate the Equip Spell, Unlock Hidden Potential!"
He slid the card under Kendov, who in turn changed his pose, one for defensive and offensive use, before erupting with a light purple aura, "This card as it says unlocks the Monster's true power. In this case, it gives the monster 100 extra attack points for the monster's level as well as increasing the level by one during my Stand-by Phase.
ATK/2500-3200
"WHAT?! 3200 Attack Points!?" Crowler snapped in fear, "Oh wait why am I scared? I'll only lose 200 Life Points."
Draco, smirked, as he chuckles softly, getting the Doc's attention, :I now use my face-down Quick-play Spell, Dragon Guard Skill: Flaming Claw Strike!" the face-down card revealed the spell showing an armored Dragon with it's left claw consumed with fire before it disintegrated, and Kendov's right arm was engulfed with fire.
"What this spell does is it destroys all monsters you control with equal to or weaker to my Dragon Guard's attack power." Draco explained to Crowler, "WHAT?! EQUAL TO OR WEAKER!?" he snapped back. Draco gave a nod as Kendov, spread his wings and leap into the air, pulling is fire covered arm back before flapping his wings to begin a dive bomb to Ancient Gear Golem, "Let that pile of scrap metal have it, Kendov!"
"Dragon style, Martial Arts, Flaming Claw Strike!" Kendov roared out, slamming his fist into the metal golem's head, the fire then erupted forward engulfing the Golem before the head, cracked and shattered, allowing the Fighter to punch through it all the way to the ground in front of Dr. Crowler as he yelled in pure fear before looking at his Golem melt and turn to ash.
"Th-this can't be!" he yelled out, "Oh and Crowler?" Draco slightly taunted out, getting the teacher's attention, "That was just the Spell card, Kendov didn't officially attacked."
He eyes dilatated as he hesitantly looked at the hologram in front of him before it glared back, "TIME OUT!"
"Dragon Fist!"
The purple Dragon warrior slammed his fist into the teacher's stomach as he groans out in pain before it all ended with an uppercut sending the professor rocketing into the air and slamming back into the ground.
Dr. Crowler LP: 0
"That's game over, Doc." Draco announced, getting a loud cheer from the stadium and future classmates, "Guess that means I'm in." All Corwler could do was silently whimper in pain, before Draco looked at his Fighter as it in turn looked back before placing his hand over his chest and bowing his head in respect, right before the holograms vanished.
"What the hell?" a girl gasped out, "How did that nobody beat Dr. Corwler?!" the other asked.
"That scum got lucky." Chazz spat in rage, "But, everyone knows, luck will dry out and when it does, I'll be there to remind him his true place."
Draco smiled as he returned to the stairs and walked up back to Syrus and Bastion, while Alexis watching him all the way to his spot.
"I got to say that was a pretty good move." She stated, "I think this year is going to be fun."
She looks over her shoulder as Zane, scoffs and walks away, not impressed at all, "Only if he can put up a challenge against me." He coldly said before walking off.
"Alright that was the last duel all Entrées that passed please follow the assistants to a desk to learn your Dorm." A woman wearing what seemed to be a uniform mostly white with yellow trims, "And to all you failed this year, we at Duel Academy wish you better luck next year."
Many Entrées stood up and followed the assistants to a hallway, a decent few went the other way to exit the stadium, showing that they didn't make the cut.
"Well time to see where I end up." Syrus said, "Not that I know where I'll be."
"Hey wherever you end up," Draco said swinging his arm around the little boy, "I'll be there with you little buddy."
"Not knowing where you will end up, but already starting to make friends?" Bastion analyzed as he looked slightly amused by Draco's actions.
"My mother has always told me, to never let anything get me down, just keep looking at the positive and make as many friends as I can." He replied.
"Sounds like your mom is kind lady." Syrus added, "You have no idea Syrus, you guys go on ahead, I'll be there in a bit."
"Are you sure?" Bastion asked, "Yeah just need to check something is all, it won't take me long." Draco relied, as they went ahead Draco sighed happily as a transparent Dragon appeared behind him.
"If it wasn't for that Spell card, I don't think I would have end it that quickly, Plus I have you to thank Kendov."
Draco looked back seeing the very Dragon that he used to win the duel leaning against the wall with a sly smirk.
"Oi! What the hell does that make me? Grilled Chop Liver?" a voice snapped out as another Dragon appeared next to the Fighter, "If it wasn't for my ability to save the Shield, that Rusted pile would have mopped the floor with Kendov."
"He means well, Heimwahl." Kendov spoke up, a voice both showing power and wisdom behind them, "The Young Lord doesn't show favoritism when out on the field of battle, he gives us all the equal amount of respect, even to those who fell."
Draco chuckled before, looking at the two members of the Dragon Guards, "So do my parents know I passed the duel?"
"The Captain sent the Spy ahead to inform them." Kendov replied, "And it wasn't just us who gave you victory today, it was also your training."
"Don't get all superior with me, 'Sensai'." Draco mocked slightly, "That was nothing but luck getting Unlock Hidden Potential."
"You might want to get a move on, Lad." Heimwahl snorted, "It seems they are already nearly down with those who passed."
Draco slightly chokes before running off, as the two dragons vanished into thin air. Getting with the other students, Draco slightly panted out and sighed making it in time, before a poster about the Dorms of the Academy caught his attention, ranking them as Slifer Red, Ra Yellow, and Obelisk Blue.
"Hmm, seems Red is the lowest dorm." He thought to himself, "Well, I did get a high score in that written exam and everyone saw my duel a few minutes ago, I think I'll be fine."
"Bastion Misawa." A woman spoke from a desk, handing a piece of paper to him, "Ra Yellow."
"A reasonable position." Bastion stated, retrieving his paper and walked to the side, Draco watching him and notices Syrus sitting by himself. Draco walked over and sat down by him was he smiles.
"Something wrong, little buddy?" Draco asked, "I'm in Slifer." He replied, "I'm not surprised, I did terrible on my written exam and I was awful in my duel."
"Hey you still got in though." Draco stated, "Hell, even if I'm not in Silfer Red, that's not going to stop me from hanging with you."
"Draco Kaitos." A man spoke up, getting his attention before, walking over and the man, and was handed a piece of paper, "Slifer Red."
"WHAT?!" nearly everyone in the hallway shouted in shock, but Draco just took the paper and walked off and gave Syrus a friendly head pat, "Well guess you and I are in the same Dorm."
"But that's not right." Syrus reacted, "To the scoring in the written exam you scored high enough to be in Ra Yellow!"
"And that duel you performed was well enough to bump you to Obelisk Blue." Bastion stated and added his facts,
"And what? There's nothing wrong in starting at the bottom, plus if you work your way through the ranks, people in the upper dorms will start to get nervous cause they can just as easily get knocked down a rank." Draco stated as he began to leave the Hallway, "See you guys tomorrow."
All the new students they were just shocked, a strange kid who had the grades to be an Obelisk was a Slifer instead, some believe it was all rigged by someone, while others scoffed at the idea a nobody could be an elite, but to none of them a man evilly chuckled at the changes that was made to place Draco in the lowest dorm.
"That's a start in teaching that Slacker a lesson he'll never forget." Dr. Crowler sneered.
