Hello everyone!
Yep, here we go again, once more with this unique idea. Been thinking on this one for a while now and the theme of how magic works and the effects it has on its people and everyone else, will be shown here. Namely how far some would get to gain, acquire or weaponize magic itself. Anyway, got a bit of bad news and i guess that's the main reason why i decide to upload this one once again.
Been thinking about this one lately and after thinking about it long and hard, i decide to go ahead and do it.
A brand-new story.
A lot of people liked the original version of this story and i decide, why not start again with a pair of fresh eyes? Now that I'm positive, i may as well give it another go. Only I'm going to be taking a bit of inspiration from Coeur Al'Aran's story:
Arcanum.
I'll be honest, at first i didn't like it too much, just a bit too slow for my taste. But as the story progressed, i got to say i began to get interested and decide to see it to the end. I do love how it's going and i decide to write this old story, with some pointers from it. Namely how Wild mages are treated and apply some of it to this story, only it's applied to magic in general simply because of my OC.
In any case, i've had this idea rolling around in my head forever, i just couldn't decide on what to do, till i decide to do it this way. Plus i have been kind of sick, really, really bad allergies and after so many months, almost years at this point of wanting to use this idea, wanting to use it so much, i decided to try something completely new for me.
Which leads me to writing about the Worm-verse.
I've been kicking back and fourth between doing something like this between this idea and a Kingdom Hearts one, but ultimately decided to do one like this, as it has quite a bit of potential to do something epic and given the dark, gritty setting that takes place, i can play into that.
Hopefully, as i have no plan and i can't work on anything else till this plot bunny leaves my brain plus i can't focus on anything else till i make something for Worm, so here we go.
So as always i own nothing.
So please read, review and "What the fuc-BOOM"
Prologue: Magic
Magic.
A power that was regard as mere fantasy and something that was impossible. Suppose to be impossible to be true, too farfetched to believe. Most believed it was nothing more than myth.
Most anyway.
The truth of the matter is, that magic is not only real but many other mythical creatures that either associated with Vampires, Werewolves and even Pixies are not only real but still exist to this very day. Supernatural races that humans believe to be just myth do exist and there was one race that all races feared and respected the most.
One race that was granted, gifted the full, untapped potential of magic that could surpass the Infinity Stones themselves, if given enough time.
This race was chosen as champions of the Goddess Of Magic otherwise known as Lady Magic to be her messenger on Earth. They were known as:
The Fairies.
Unlike the Pixies, this race was made up of humanoid creatures that looked just like humans, save for the wings on their backs. They may appear human but fairies are very much different, as they have eternal youth, super strength, speed, inhuman reflexes, enhanced senses and photographic memory. They can also learn any and every type of magical arts, without any draw back.
Unlike the fairies, many races could either only learn one magical art or none at all without severe consequences, be they psychically, mentally or both.
Humans often fall prey to this, resulting in the creation of Witches.
Humans that sell their souls to demonic beings, which created a new form of magical art known as Witchcraft. A more or less, weaker form of real Magecraft. Witchcraft degraded the mind, twisting it and poisoned the body making them sickly and weak. The mind itself became a bastion of insanity, causing the user to commit inhuman acts of sadism, ultimately destroying them.
If it didn't kill the user, it would turn the user into a demon and at times, they would become nothing more than a Wraith with a single-minded fixation. Many times, the witch turned demon or wraith would focus on an ideal. Many times, this wanting of something or someone would transcend the mortal plain and Cruse the place where they died.
Many times, it could be an old town, a forest and even at rare times, a mountain top where the richy richy buy it and remodel it.
This often leads to people going missing, ending up dead in the most brutal and twisted ways or even be deemed insane by everyone around them, never knowing what they saw, was in fact true. Though at that point, it wouldn't matter as the victim's mind was be shattered and broken beyond all repair at that point.
The cursed land itself would be so tainted with this twisted magic, it could not only become an entirely different dimension, it could travel between the past, present and future. This in turn would cause the victim to basically jump between all those points, often putting a huge strain on the mind, testing their will to see if they could survive and stay sane.
This would lead to the victim questioning their own sanity and slowly break them. That is, if whatever in either the past or present doesn't kill them first. Even if they are in the past or future, they can interact with whatever is there and that could often lead, to them being killed as a result.
The sad thing is, it's near impossible to tell if it's just mere illusionary, where the mind really, truly believes it's under attack that the attacks feel real even if they aren't or if it really is real.
A person's mind can be their own worst enemy after all. Most of the time, the cursed land has, for a lack of a better word "A source of power" a certain object that ties the twisted magic to the land. Something that meant a lot to the holder of the magic and if destroyed, could not only stop the curse of the land itself but will set free the tormented souls.
The ones trapped within the land, those that came before and died, trying to break the curse. Even the user themselves, finally freed from the hell of their own making.
Fitting.
Now, onto Magecraft otherwise known as Witchcraft it is more or less, a safer form of magic that human can use without too much consequences but one wrong move and you die.
Now hearing all this, you would think being born a fairy means it's superior to all races.
But...you'd be wrong.
Fairies have their own problems, just like any other race. For one, the fairies had a problem with reproduction. They couldn't just have baby's willy Nilly, it was very, very difficult for them to make children but thanks to their eternal youth and ridiculous durability, original it was never a real problem. Another is their magic itself, the fairies HAVE to use their magic, for whatever reason, they must use it.
Even if it is as simple as using magic to lift something towards one self, that would be good enough.
To deny using magic is not only considered a mortal sin to a fairy, but it would not only slowly kill them, but the fairy will be driven to insanity. A fairy's body is meant to use magic, even for the simplest, tiniest task will be enough to satisfy that magical use. Magic was their lifeblood, their reason to live and to be denied that, would be the death of them.
However, seeing as they were the chosen champion of the goddess, they were the ones to ensure the balance of the elements on Earth. Keeping the elements from getting too out of control and preventing any huge "Natural disasters" from destroying the world. Along with keeping other supernatural creatures from going too wild on the humans and each other.
In a sense, you could say the fairies were the safeguards of the world. Chosen by the gods to watch over the world, keep magic and the elements in the balance and because of this, they are natural pacifists.
After all, every world has its guardian, and the fairies are the ones that guard Earth. But push comes to shove, they can unleash an unspeakable horror upon their enemies, and none have lived to tell the tale. The Frost Giants of Jotunheim learned that the hard way and the Asgardians of Asgard learned the Fairies are an invaluable ally.
To the point they, the Amazons of Themyscira and even the Atlantean of Atlantis bond themselves to a magical contract, bonding them as allies, swore to help each other in times of need.
Sadly however, when one sided needed their allies the most, the others could not help. Not because they didn't want to or because they willfully ignored them, but because their allies were each in their own weaken states.
A topic for later.
There are three main core magic's people could learn. The magical arts fall into these categories, the effects and what the arts do tells you, which art fall into which category.
White magic has traditionally referred to the use of supernatural powers or magic for selfless purposes. Practitioners of white magic have been given titles such as wise men or women, healers, white witches or wizards. Many of these people claimed to have the ability to do such things because of knowledge or power that was passed on to them through hereditary lines, or by some event later in their lives. White magic was practiced through healing, blessing, charms, incantations, prayers, and songs. With respect to the philosophy of left-hand path and right-hand path, white magic is the benevolent counterpart of malicious black magic. Because of its ties to traditional Paganism (nature worship), white magic is often also referred to as "natural magic"
In his 1978 book, A History of White Magic, recognized occult author Gareth Knight traces the origins of white magic to early adaptations of Paleolithic religion and early religious history in general, including the polytheistic traditions of Ancient Egypt and the later monotheistic ideas of Judaism and early Christianity.
In particular, he traced many of the traditions of white magic to the early worship of local "gods and goddesses of fertility and vegetation who were usually worshipped at hill-top shrines" and were "attractive to a nomadic race settling down to an agricultural existence". He focuses in particular on the nomadic Hebrew-speaking tribes and suggests that early Jews saw the worship of such deities more in terms of atavism than evil. It was only when the polytheistic and pagan Roman Empire began to expand that Jewish leaders began to rally against those ideas.
Early origins of white magic can also be traced back to the Cunning Folk.
This is the first and most common magic type the fairies learn.
Black magic has traditionally referred to the use of supernatural powers or magic for evil and selfish purposes. With respect to the left-hand path and right-hand path dichotomy, black magic is the malicious, left-hand counterpart of the benevolent white magic. In modern times, some find that the definition of black magic has been convoluted by people who define magic or ritualistic practices that they disapprove of as black magic.
Like its counterpart white magic, the origins of black magic can be traced to the primitive, ritualistic worship of spirits as outlined in Robert M. Place's 2009 book, Magic and Alchemy. Unlike white magic, in which Place sees parallels with primitive shamanistic efforts to achieve closeness with spiritual beings, the rituals that developed into modern black magic were designed to invoke those same spirits to produce beneficial outcomes for the practitioner. Place also provides a broad modern definition of both black and white magic, preferring instead to refer to them as "high magic" (white) and "low magic" (black) based primarily on intentions of the practitioner employing them. He acknowledges, though, that this broader definition (of "high" and "low") suffers from prejudices because good-intentioned folk magic may be considered "low" while ceremonial magic involving expensive or exclusive components may be considered by some as "high magic", regardless of intent.
Originally, before the purges of their kind, such magic was forbidden to be used. However, with the senseless destruction and slaughter of their people, they had very little choice but to turn to the dark arts. Some of them refused to turn their backs on their natural right and wanted to fight back. Others however...they just wanted to hurt those who had hurt them.
To make those, who caused their people untold pain and suffering, and the magic became tainted. Twisted from nature's intended course, became something new and evil.
Gray magic, also called neutral magic, is magic that is not performed for specifically beneficial reasons but is also not focused on completely hostile practices. It is seen as falling in a continuum between white and black magic. It is also spelled gray magick, grey magic, grey magick or neutral magick.
According to D. J. Conway, practitioners of white magic avoid causing any form of harm, even to enact positive outcomes. Gray magic incorporates all the beneficial purposes of white magic, but also works towards ridding the world of evils. Ann Finnin states that many practitioners of gray magic employ the term because of its vagueness, and to avoid having to consider ethical questions.
A rather different meaning to the term was given by Roy Bowers, an influential British witch of the 1960s. For Bowers, it was a technique of baffling, bewildering, and mystifying everyone he met in order to gain power over them; by doing so, he was always surer about them than they were about him. In his article entitled Genuine Witchcraft is Defended, Bowers says the following:
"One basic tenet of which psychological grey magic is that your opponent should never be allowed to confirm an opinion about you but should always remain undecided. This gives you a greater power over him, because the undecided is always the weaker. From this attitude much confusion has probably sprung in the long path of history."
Psychological warfare at its finest.
There are of course several other forms of different types of magic, one being such as Voodoo Magic. Unlike the big three White, Black and Gray, Voodoo magic is a religion practiced in parts of the Caribbean (especially Haiti) and the southern US, combining elements of Roman Catholic ritual with traditional African magical and religious rites, and characterized by sorcery and spirit possession.
Many people, from all different races used magic in many different ways, ensuring peace and prosperity throughout the world for a long time.
But nothing last forever.
Towards the end of the Fairy race, as their race came ever so closer to extinct, the Fairies could not call upon their allies. The Amazons had been sealed away to their island, to protect them from the slowly evolving world. The Atlantean to the seas to protect themselves from the humans and allow them to grow without interference, from nearly being wiped out by a deadly surface world virus and the Asgardians were cut off from Earth during the final battle with the Frost Giants on Earth, before they were driven to their home world. Not to mention the sheer numbers of Asgardians fallen during the final battle had weakened Asgard, as did the Fairies.
For all their power, the Fairies numbers have always been the lowest of all the other fractions, barely reaching a hundred.
Like everything else, war has a way of ripping, tearing and destroying everything it touches. Time had a way of erasing the scars of the past and those that had come before us.
One of the last of the Fairies, Morgan Le Fay decide that enough was enough. Like they're allies, Morgan decides it was high time to leave Earth to the mortals. If they didn't want their protection, then they can survive on their own. This decision did not come lightly, and she only decide to leave Earth in the hands of fate, after the death of king Arthur, her husband for a time and the destruction of Camelot by the hands of her own apprentice, Morgaine who had twisted her own son Mordred, into a weapon that destroyed everything she held dear.
Morgan had not realized just how dangerous Morgaine really was, nor that sliver tongue of hers, nor did she the darkness within her apprentice. By the time she realized what kind of monster she had created, it was too late.
The walls came down and everyone she loved was killed, orchestrated by her own son and the people her husband Arthur swore to protect.
With her home in flames, her human husband dead by her own son, her apprentice a power-hungry madwoman, her Fairy brother in everything but blood turned to dust, left Morgan alone with nothing save for her grandchild. Even with all the magical power in the world, the powerful Fairy could not bring back the dead.
Not without a heavy price to pay in return. Not on herself but the one who is resurrected, and she wasn't selfish enough to do that to her loved ones, no matter how tempting the idea was, it simply wasn't worth it.
Standing in the ruins of her once home, over the ashes and corpse of her friends and family, Morgan decides she had enough of it.
Enough of the death.
Enough of the pain.
Enough of the suffering.
Enough of losing friends.
Enough of losing family.
Enough with being hunted by power hungry or fearful humans.
Enough with Earth as a whole.
Her future may have been bleak, it may have been certain that it would lead her to damn-nation, but that did not mean her bloodline would be doomed. Her only grandson, he could still have a future, one he could carve out for himself, and she would give him the tools to do it.
A little unknown fact about the Fairies, is that they can bestow the gift of magic upon normal humans, which only made them more sought out by those that wanted them as either weapons or to steal their gifts. Many didn't know if that was fact or not but when word of her where and how Morgan's apprentice gained the ability to use magic, she knew her time in the light was over.
Camelot was gone, her family was all but dead and all she had left was this tiny little thing in the palms of her hands. Understanding how fearful and dangerous humans could be when they feel threatened and with the destruction of her home, Morgan knew she had to make a choice, and that one choice changed the course of history.
Using an ancient ritual, Morgan not only sent her grandson to another world, one far away from Earth but she used her knowledge of the mystic arts to transfer all her knowledge of said arts to her grandson to better prepare him for the future he would face. But knowing that transferer would be too much for his young mind to handle, let alone his body to hold till he reaches the age of maturity, she created a magical Grimoire for him to use to help master his magic. The powerful Fairy even went so far as to make sure her grandson was armed with the legendary sword, wielded by her husband, the holy sword Excalibur.
Along with one of the Fairies deadliest weapons, The Vorpal Blade. A blade capable of cutting through any armor and capable of destroying any and all evil that dares grace its steel. Nothing and no one in recorded history has been able to block its deadly edge, and it strikes true.
Little did Morgan know that her choice to send her grandson to an alternate version of Earth, known as Earth-Bet, would help change and the shape the future of this world, as this slowly dying planet would get a new resident. One that would unknowingly help shift the course of not just one world but several others in the process, for better or for worse, the future that was once set in stone has been forever changed.
For the future is always in monition and ever changing.
The path to victory, to humanity having a future may not be a bleak as it once was, but that does not mean this new path will be a bloodless one, but is it a better path or shall this new path humanity's future down an even darker course?
That depends on who you ask, as only the individual can decide that, as the new path has already been set and the new future is in motion. To many, he was would simply be Zasha Le Fay, but soon enough, the entire world would know him as, The Witch Doctor of Brockton Bay.
"I have a duty. A hero? Me? Doing something just because it's the right thing, even if it costs you everything? Hahahahaha, yeah right. FUCK THAT! It's my power! I will damn well use it as i see fit and if you've got a problem with it, then you can piss off. Now, if you want to make a deal, then we can talk but until then, i say again, piss off, i've got an old friend to find."
And quite possible the PRT and the villain's worst nightmare come true.
After all, one should always be careful when making deals with witches, as everything comes with a price.
Done.
Due note, because for whatever fucked up reasons, i seem to can't stop my brain from doing stupid shit, i have another Worm story in mind with this OC only it's a Kingdom Hearts crossover, with SEVERAL other worlds being involved, becoming more darker then the, shall we say 'light version' in the games. So instead of going to Disney worlds, worlds like "Terminator" "Warhammer 40K" and "Star Wars" will be the kind of worlds they'll be traveling too.
Just the ones i can think off the top of my head and i'm not sure if it'll be a "Watching the dark future" kind of story yet or not, which is one of the reasons why i'm writing this one as it's already finished, just needed a setting and plot.
Now here we are. So to end with a bow on top, here's a short preview:
Preview: An Old Friend
"Z-Zasha, i-"
"Stop." The long eared teen just held up his hand, looking at Emma like she was a complete stranger and not one of her best friends growing up, "The Emma i knew would never do what your doing now Barnes, but it's clear to me that your not her. Not anymore." Without another word, the snow white haired teen wrapped his arms around a shaking Taylor, nearly breaking down into tears and for once, not because of fear or sadness.
But of relief and happiness.
"T-thank you." Zasha just smiled at her, as he hauled her up, the girl all but clinging to his body as he began to lead her away from the group.
"That's what friends are for T." He shot Emma a stoic look, "What a REAL friend would do, not a tratior." The word cut through the redhead's heart like a butter through hot butter. To the point she could only watch as her now two former friends walked down the hallway, with the glasses wearing now under the protractive wings of the Le-Fay, Emma and the rest of Wilson would soon learn the hard way what happened when you cross a Le-Fay.
Devil out.
