Pokémon: Pokédex no Isekai

Chapter Five: Safari Shenanigans, and other things

The crew of The Big Beauty had arrived in Fuchsia City, Kanto, home of the Kanto region's Safari Zone. It is there that the reborn trainers intend to make some serious progress in their quest to complete the Kanto Pokédex, which is a part of their ultimate quest to complete the Pokédex for all of the regions. Granted, a... slight unforeseen consequence came up as a result of Mina insisting on using time travel to fix something, but the reborn trainers will work that out.

For now, they wanted to get cracking on catching all that the Kanto Safari Zone has to offer. "If any of you see a Chansey," Dawn began to Kenny, Trip, and Mina, "Try to catch it and hope like hell that you succeed." Dawn did recall playing the Fire Red and Leaf Green games back in her previous life; Chansey could be found there, but they were rare as balls, almost always broke out of the damn Safari Balls, and almost always fled, making them a right proper pain in the fanny to catch.

"Chansey can lead into a few Pokémon on lists for other regions," Trip remarked, "So catching one will be of great help."

"Catching any Pokémon we don't have registered as caught yet will be of great help," Kenny pointed out. The others all nodded in agreement, and with that the reborn trainers went off into the Kanto Safari Zone.

...

Dawn had made some decent progress, and hoped like hell she and the other reborn trainers didn't catch multiples of the same species. Dawn remembered from the anime in her previous life that Ash had caught a whopping thirty Tauros in that one episode that was never aired in the States due to some odd reason Dawn can't recall at the moment. Was it the one with the gun toting older man? Dawn would like to believe that it was.

As Dawn was searching for other Pokémon to catch, she decided to take a break, sitting down on a boulder and getting out an individually wrapped honey bun to eat. As she was about to take a bite out of her snack, Dawn heard some rustling from a nearby patch of grass. After a few moments, a wild Chansey popped out. It had greatly surprised Dawn, especially considering the fact that the wild Chansey is a shiny.

The wild shiny Chansey came hopping over to Dawn, looked at her honey bun, then gave Dawn an expectant look. Getting the idea, Dawn tore her honey bun in half and offered one of the halves to the shiny Chansey. It took the honey bun half, took a bite out of it, delighted at the taste, and went on to gobble the rest up. Dawn then offered the wild shiny Chansey the other half of the honey bun, which it took and ate up.

As Chansey ate, one of the spare Safari Balls Dawn had fell out and bumped into the wild shiny Chansey, taking it into itself and landed softly on the grass and shook for a bit before it made a click sound, indicating capture. "...No friggin' way," Dawn said, not believing her luck. Well, Chansey was a Pokémon on the list that Dawn and the other reborn trainers had to catch, and a shiny is a good as a normally colored one.

As the ball containing Dawn's newly caught shiny Chansey was sent to Oak's Lab, Dawn decided to go meet up with the other reborn trainers. She found Trip looking at a tree both Kenny and Mina were in, also the tree was surrounded by wild Dodrios. Dawn and Trip turned to look at one another, both of them wearing the driest of looks on their respective faces, before they turned to look back at Kenny's and Mina's latest shenanigans.

After a while, Dawn and the other reborn trainers were able to get at least one of each possible species of Pokémon that can be caught in the Kanto Safari Zone. Trip, Kenny, and Mina, the latter two of those three both looking disheveled, were amazed with Dawn's luck in finding and catching a wild shiny Chansey.

"Yes yes, I got some decent luck," Dawn replied, "Now onto my question. What in blazes did Kenny and Mina do to offend those Dodrios?"

"I accidentally pronounced their species name as Dorito out loud," Kenny said, "Apparently they don't take kindly to people mispronouncing their species name."

Dawn could only sigh in a mildly exasperated resigned tone. "This is just like our time in the Great Marsh over in Sinnoh, where a bunch of wild Quagsires chased you up a tree."

"Hey, at least this time none of my Safari Balls were eaten," Kenny defended.

Looking mildly embarrassed, Mina admitted, "The Dodrios ate all of my Safari Balls..."

"You two have shit luck when it comes to Safari Zones," Trip remarked.

Looking to Dawn, Mina said, "So now what do we do?"

"It's a bit late, so I say we stay in Fuchsia City for the night and take off in the morning," Dawn replied, "Who's with me?" The other reborn trainers all cheered in agreement as they proceeded to make their way back to The Big Beauty. They were getting hungry, and they were all tired, especially so for Kenny and Mina. In the morning, the flying ship would take off out of Fuchsia City so that the crew can continue the quest to complete the Pokédex.

In the middle of the night, Dawn was fast asleep in her room on board of The Big Beauty. As Dawn snoozed away, someone opened the door quietly and tried to tip toe in. 'Try' is the operative word here as Dawn's named Lucario Leni, who Dawn had out sleeping in the room as well, was alerted by the presence of an unrecognized aura.

The instant the uninvited guest stepped foot into Dawn's room, they were caught and floated up by Leni's Psychic. "Hey hey, let me down!" a female voice called out. The call woke Dawn up, and as such she saw Janine, the Fuchsia City gym leader as her dad, former Fuchsia City gym leader Koga, is now part of the Kanto League Elite Four.

Dawn arched a bewildered eyebrow at the sight of Janine having snuck aboard her flying ship in the middle of the night. "Janine?!" Dawn said, "What in blazes are you doing here?!"

"Dawn?!" Janine replied, "What in blazes are you doing being a member of Team Heart?!"

"I'm not a member of Team Heart!" Dawn exclaimed, "What made you think that?!"

"This big ol' flying ship," Janine said, "I thought that it was a Team Heart vessel!"

"What made you think that?!" Dawn asked.

"Team Heart had been known to use flying ships like this," Janine replied.

Sighing in an exasperated tone, Dawn explained, "If this was a Team Heart vessel, wouldn't it have been painted in the Team Heart colors? Also, wouldn't it have been swarmed by the Kanto region security men dedicated to defending Kanto and keeping Team Heart from invading?" As well as be complete and total assholes to the people they're supposed to 'defend' and be ineffective at actually fighting Team Heart, but that's besides the point.

Looking a bit nervous, Janine said, "Oh, I, umm, may have called Kanto region security men over here to surround the suspected Team Heart vessel..."

Dawn looked VERY unamused. "...When this is all over, I'm going to kick your ass, Janine."

About an hour and a half later, the Kanto region security men left The Big Beauty, having searched it and confirmed both that it wasn't a Team Heart vessel and that there was no suspected Team Heart activity going on aboard. The security men, as always, were utter assholes towards Dawn and her crew throughout everything. After the security men were all gone, Dawn as well as the other reborn trainers took Janine with them to the meeting room aboard Dawn's flying ship.

"So Team Heart has their own flying ships like The Big Beauty," Dawn began as she as well as Kenny, Trip, and Mina all began to grill Janine for info.

Nodding once in the affirmative, Janine said, "Indeed. I probably should have paid closer attention to detail, as well as the fact that this vessel wasn't being surrounded already by Kanto region security, that way I would have been able to catch onto the fact that by no means could this have been a Team Heart vessel."

"What were you even doing sneaking aboard what you thought was a Team Heart flying ship?" Mina asked.

Shrugging, Janine said, "I figured that someone of great importance in the Team Heart hierarchy was aboard, so I used all of my ninja skills and experience to sneak aboard, sneak around until I had found the most important looking bedroom as undoubtedly that's where the most important Team Heart member aboard such a vessel would be sleeping, and kidnap them to turn them over to the regional security men here in Kanto."

"So if it weren't for Leni, then chances are I'd be accused of collaborating with Team Heart right now," Dawn said, "Thank you for the gift of paranoia, Janine. I really needed it." Now Dawn would be worrying about locking everything up, because Janine decided to play ninja.

"Are things in Kanto really looking so bad, Janine?" Trip asked.

"We got Johto next door," Janine began, "And both the Orange Islands and the Delacore Islands close by. All of them are territories under the banner of Team Heart. I was hoping to do my duty as a Kanto region citizen and bring the Kanto region security men a member of Team Heart ranked higher than the simple rank and file. It'd be a major boon to morale for Kanto as a whole."

Shrugging, Kenny said, "Yeah, I can see that."

"So Janine," Mina began, "Aside from almost getting Dawn in trouble because you're stupid and don't check things or pay attention, how have you been doing?"

Sighing, Janine replied, "I've been fine. I heard rumor from Cerulean City that one of the sisters who runs the Cerulean City gym is in distress over not being able to contact someone, but I don't have a lot of detail there."

Dawn suspected that Janine was speaking of the situation involving how Ash and Brock are not on speaking terms with Misty at the moment. "I'm... certain things there will work themselves out," said Dawn, "You just need to have faith."

"I also heard that there was a recent attack carried out in Celadon City by Team Heart," Janine went on, "Several rank and file level members were captured, but the only present Officer and their Assistant were both able to escape."

"Yeah, the lads here and I fought Team Heart off in that attack," Kenny said.

Growling in annoyed frustration, Janine said, "Uhhg! Why is it that the big names are always able to get away?! Even a Captain or their Assistant could be useful, if only to exchange for a prisoner who is being held by Team Heart!"

"What's this about a prisoner exchange?" Dawn asked.

Looking troubled, Janine said, "Sometimes, Team Heart and the good guys exchange prisoners. It always sees the good guys fork over a whole lot of Team Heart rank and file members to get back only a few captured good guys of note. If the good guys were to be able to get even one notable member of Team Heart, like an Officer or an Officer's Assistant, then we wouldn't have to give up so many captured Team Heart rank and file!"

"How many captured Team Heart rank and file level members do you think Kanto has left to use as bargaining chips?" Mina asked.

"Counting the ones captured during the chaos in Celadon City recently," Janine said, "About twelve I think. Meanwhile Team Heart is holding various important members of the good guy side."

"Do you know where said good guy prisoners are being held by Team Heart?" Kenny asked.

"In various lands that are part of the Team Heart Empire," Janine replied, "There's no way that Team Heart would keep their prisoners outside of Team Heart territory, where the good guys would have a shot at getting them back."

"What all had the good guy prisoners captured by Team Heart did to be captured?" Mina asked.

Shrugging, Janine replied, "General acts within Team Heart territory that are disapproved by Team Heart. Rebel fighters trying to overthrow Team Heart authority are common, but non rebels who act against Team Heart creed are also arrested."

Dawn gave Janine a contemplative look. "My friends here and I recently got it that Team Heart holds various forms of discrimination to all be foul, with fatphobia as the worst offender."

"Pfft, you won't believe how many people are arrested and or captured within Team Heart territory over accusations of being fatphobic," Janine said, "Although there was one incident over in the Johto region recently where a severe case of religious discrimination was rather heavily punished."

"Religious discrimination in Johto?" Dawn asked.

Janine nodded once in confirmation. "Some time ago, a Donzish festival was held in Olivine City, where people of the Donzish faith gathered to celebrate for some yearly religious event of theirs. The festival, however, was attacked by a mob incited and led by four anti-donzites. Although all persons who attacked the Donzish festival were arrested, it doesn't change the fact that over a dozen Donzish people and over two dozen of their non-Donzish friends were killed."

The reborn trainers were all greatly unsettled to hear all of that. "Oh..." Trip said, looking completely and utterly aghast, "...Oh crap..."

"To make matters worse," Janine went on, "Johto region government and law enforcement, even though they had the festival attackers all arrested, had been rather devil-may-care about actually sentencing the festival attackers. For the longest time, all of the festival attackers were just sitting in jail without receiving actual sentences."

"Why is that?" Dawn asked.

"Johto as a whole had always been indifferent to helping and supporting the rights of its Donzish citizens," Janine explained, "Despite having laws in place that cover the Donzish people as equally as people of other religions are covered. It's not uncommon for Donzish people in Johto to have to sue to get the rights that, technically, they're supposed to have by Johto law. And that habit has led to some rather unflattering things in Johto from its non-Donzish people to its Donzish people."

"I'm... guessing things had changed when Team Heart took over rule of Johto?" Dawn asked.

Nodding once in confirmation, Janine replied, "After Team Heart first ensured that fatphobia in Johto was completely and utterly wiped out, they went about wiping other forms of discrimination, starting with religious discrimination. The festival attackers, who by then were languishing in jail for a little over two years, were sentenced more or less immediately. But it was Team Heart who had decided on and doled out the sentences."

"I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Team Heart had far less mercy than traditional Johto court rulings," Kenny said.

Janine let out an ironic laugh. "Like you wouldn't believe. The attackers who were incited and led by the four anti-donzites were all sentenced to life without chance of parole, all of them set to do various hard labour. The four attack leaders, however, were all sentenced to execution. However, I got it that one was able to escape while no-one was looking thanks to a relative getting them out. That one attack leader is still at large, with a Team Heart-issued bounty at least eight digits big placed on his head although it'd be cut in half if the attack leader is brought in dead."

"Doesn't Team Heart want that guy dead anyway?" Mina asked.

"I think it's due more to wanting to kill him themselves," Dawn pointed out.

Janine nodded in confirmation to what Dawn said. "Team Heart wants to be able to carry out its brand of justice. Mind you, the festival attackers all honestly deserve to be punished severely for what they had done, but with Team Heart getting in the way and muddying things up with their ways, things get kind of murky."

"How are things in Johto now?" Trip asked.

"Well for starters, Team Heart forces Johto region law to do for the Donzish people what it's supposed to do," Janine said, "Although some folks in Johto law don't like being forced to work at the word of Team Heart. The average Johto citizen, however, realized that Team Heart actually treats all citizens under the Team Heart banner fairly and equally, as Team Heart rule really has only made Johto law do what it says it's supposed to do."

"So Johto law is actually being forced to help and support its Donzish citizens the same as it does for citizens of other religions without Donzish people bringing the matter to court first," Dawn said, "But Johto law is not happy about it."

"There's also how various other laws had been put into place by Team Heart in the Johto region," Janine went on, "Laws that are in place in other territories part of the Team Heart Empire. You'd be very hard pressed to find an instance of discrimination in Team Heart territory that isn't punished immediately and severely."

The reborn trainers were surprised by how strongly Team Heart was against discrimination. It had to be a sign of some motivation behind the heads of Team Heart. Dawn would have asked Janine for more details, but an urgent knocking on the meeting room door cut Dawn off before she was even able to get a word out.

Dawn got up from her seat to go answer the knocking at the meeting room door, but stopped halfway to the door when it opened and Mitch came in, his shiny Dedenne Den perched on his left shoulder. "Mitch has most terrible urgent news!" Mitch said, "Team Heart has just shown up here in Fuchsia City! They are up to big attack that is no good and villainous in nature!"

Right away, the reborn trainers and Janine were alerted. "We need to go out there and fight off Team Heart," Dawn declared, "We can't let them get away with this attack on Fuchsia City!" The others all agreed with Dawn, and within quick order everyone aboard The Big Beauty who was able to fight got off the flying ship and went to confront Team Heart.

Outside, Dawn and the others saw that Team Heart was doing all sorts of general bad guy stuff, mostly trying to harass trainers for their Pokémon. The Kanto regional security men in Fuchsia City were already all fighting Team Heart, but they were proving to be at best only to break even with the villainous team members that they were fighting.

"Janine, you're with me," Dawn said, "Everyone else, fan out and help beat down on Team Heart!" Everyone agreed, and off the heroes went to help defend Fuchsia City from the attack being carried out in it by Team Heart.

As Dawn and Janine ran, they stopped short when Janine spotted from the corner of her eye a uniquely dressed Team Heart member. Dawn turned to look with Janine, and as such she also saw a uniquely dressed Team Heart member. It was a fair skinned man, with platinum blonde hair combed back save for two lengths of bangs going about halfway down his forehead.

He wore black aviator shades with pink frames, a black coat as a cape, a pink long sleeved men's dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows, a black necktie, black pants, and black shoes with pink shoelaces. A black Team Heart 'H' was on the man's dress shirt, over the left pectoral. The man was accompanied by a guy in the standard male rank and file Team Heart outfit. This guy was fair skinned and had purple hair that reached his earlobes.

Pointing dramatically at the uniquely dressed Team Heart member, Janine declared, "You must be the one leading this attack on Fuchsia City! You and your fellow here not only are going to be taken down, but also apprehended and detained in Kanto regional security custody!"

Scoffing, the uniquely dressed Team Heart member said, "Yeah right, like those pompous jerks with overly inflated egos are ever gonna lay even a single finger on any member of Team Heart above the rank of Grunt. But that's besides the point. I suppose that introductions are in order." Gesturing to himself, the uniquely dressed Team Heart member said, "I'm Scott, Second Captain of Team Heart's Kanto Sector. My fellow with me is my Captain's Assistant, Lee."

"What do you criminals think you're doing in Fuchsia City?!" Janine demanded.

"We're here to raid the Kanto Safari Zone for as many rare Pokémon as possible," Lee explained, "There's wealthy families living in the various sovereign lands of Team Heart, we can hold some auctions by selling off Pokémon like Dragonair and Chansey."

Dawn was glad that she had caught her Chansey earlier; if it was still wild, then Team Heart would have latched onto it and spirit it away. A rare Pokémon like Chansey, and one that's a shiny no less, would undoubtedly fetch quite a cool payday at the horrid auctions that Lee was speaking of. "Well your attack here on Fuchsia City ends here and now, Team Heart!" Dawn declared.

Sighing in a mildly annoyed, resigned tone, Scott said, "Given the fact that you are here, I'm gonna have to call for a full retreat out of Fuchsia City. Admin Hanae has issued a F.O.S order on you, Dawn Berlitz."

Dawn looked curious at that. "F.O.S?"

"Flee on sight," Janine explained, "It means that Team Heart here in Kanto had been ordered by the head of Team Heart's Kanto Sector to, if they see you in the field, not engage and just turn around and run away as best as they can. Even aborting missions in the middle of said missions is allowed if you're sighted in the field."

"And I'm going to have to abort this mission," Scott said as Lee fiddled with a comm device of some kind, "But I doubt that you girls will let Lee and I take our leave from here."

"Damn straight we won't let you run away!" Janine declared, "Come on, Dawn! We got us some villains to fight!" The battle where Dawn and Janine fought Scott and Lee began, with Dawn sending out her named Garchomp Germany and Janine sending out a Crobat. Scott sent out a Drapion and Lee sent out a Koffing.

"Germany, use Earthquake!" Dawn ordered.

"Drapion, use Night Slash on Garchomp!" Scott commanded.

"Koffing, use Tackle on Crobat!" Lee called out.

"Crobat, use Wing Attack on Koffing!" Janine said.

Crobat just barely outsped Germany and struck down Koffing with a well aimed Wing Attack. Germany then used Earthquake to shake up the entire battlefield with seismic waves. Drapion was hit and taken down before it could strike, and Crobat as a partial flying type was immune.

Scott and Lee recalled their respective fainted Pokémon and sent out their next Pokémon, an Ariados out of Scott and a Zubat out of Lee. "Ariados, use Poison Jab on Garchomp!" Scott ordered.

"Germany, use Rock Tomb on Ariados!" Dawn commanded.

"Crobat, use Wing Attack on Zubat!" Janine called out.

"Zubat, use Wing Attack on Crobat!" Lee said.

Once again, Crobat was slightly quicker than the named Garchomp, and as such it struck Zubat and knocked it out. But Germany's struck down Ariados with its Rock Tomb attack at around the same time. Scott and Lee were both forced to recall their fainted Pokémon.

Scowling, Scott said, "Damn it, we've been wiped."

"Aha!" Janine declared triumphantly, "Now that you have been bested, we can-"

Janine was cut off when a number of Team Heart grunts came over, at least two a piece to Janine and Dawn, and surrounded them while Scott and Lee took the time to run away. Janine cursed up a storm as the Team Heart Captain and his Assistant both got away scot free, but she vowed to take as many Team Heart grunts as possible prisoner to make up for the loss.

Eventually, the attack being carried out on Fuchsia City by Team Heart had come to an end. Team Heart had been able to make off with several wild Pokémon from the Kanto Safari Zone, but none of them were rare names. Additionally, a total of eight Team Heart grunts were captured and taken as prisoners; they were all caught by civilian trainers, as the Kanto regional security men had yet again proven lackluster at best. It didn't stop the Kanto region security men from taking all of the credit while boasting and bragging, though.

Of course, the Kanto regional security men were annoyed that the Team Heart Officer and his Assistant were both able to get away; it turned out that the fiddling with a comm device that Lee had done was to summon back up in case things went south for him and Scott, to at least ensure that the heads of the attack could get away. It sucked that the good guys, yet again, failed to catch any big names in Team Heart.

But they DID still capture some Team Heart personnel, and a decent sized number of them at that. The good guys were gonna have to take their victories where they could get them.

In a private meeting in the meeting room aboard The Big Beauty, Dawn thought about how Team Heart in this timeline was proving to be easier to catch and detain their operatives than Team Scorn in the previous timeline. Granted, the good guys in the current timeline have only been able to catch rank and file level members of Team Heart, but they had gotten a good number of them over time.

"Okay, so it turns out that Dawn here is the equivalent of the Yellow Flash," Kenny said, "Given that Team Heart operatives have orders to turn around and run if they see her in the field. Even aborting missions is permissible for them if it means they can run away from Dawn as soon and as quickly as they can manage." Turning to look at Dawn, Kenny said, "Now all that you need to do is to invent the Rasengan, and you'll be golden."

Scowling, Dawn said, "I am NOT inventing the Rasengan, Kenny."

"So Team Heart this time was only looking to raid the Kanto Safari Zone of as many rare name Pokémon to spirit back to Team Heart owned lands and sell to the highest bidder," Trip summed up, "Sounds like typical bad guy stuff if you ask me."

Nodding once, Janine who was invited for the meeting said, "Yes, but Team Heart had only been able to take, at most, twelve Pokémon from the Kanto Safari Zone. And all of them were common ones that any trainer can easily get without ever stepping foot into the Kanto Safari Zone. Further more, eight Team Heart operatives, all rank and file level members, were captured while all other Team Heart members who were in Fuchsia City escaped. Sadly we had failed once more to get any big names from Team Heart, but Kanto currently holds a total of twenty Team Heart operatives in legal custody."

Nodding once, Mina said, "That's good, right?"

Looking troubled, Janine said, "Barely. If anyone of note from the good guys' side in Kanto is captured and taken prisoner by Team Heart, then Kanto will have to turn over at least half of the Team Heart operatives it's currently detaining, even if it's just one person that Kanto will be trying to get back from Team Heart."

"At least tell me that there's security for certain persons of note in the Kanto region," Dawn replied.

Nodding once, Janine said, "Oh yes, Kanto's government isn't dumb. There's security for every notable Kanto region resident that you'd care to name. You won't believe the level of security that is present in Pallet Town, as not only is that where Professor Oak's Lab is located, but Pallet Town is also the hometown of Kanto Champion Ash."

Dawn gave a troubled, unamused look at the mention of Ash Ketchum. "...That didn't stop Team Heart from successfully stealing Ash's Pikachu." Dawn also couldn't forget how she and Brock had been forced by Jessie, formerly of the now long defunct Team Rocket but now an Officer ranked member of Team Heart, to let her and some rank and file men with her to not only get away scot free, but Jessie had the gall to taunt them over it.

Dawn swore to herself to turn Jessie's face into a work of modern art for that. Gently shaking her head, Dawn said, "Is there anything else that we ought to cover before we end the meeting and I send you home Janine?"

Gently shaking her head, Janine said, "No, nothing that I can think of."

"The next time you see what you think is a Team Heart vessel, make sure to take a good long through look BEFORE you act," Dawn said, "I didn't need the gift of paranoia that you gave me by sneaking aboard The Big Beauty."

Janine nodded once in understanding. "Got it, also I'm sorry again for the mistake. Also, I do have one question to ask, but it's not related to what we covered in this meeting."

Dawn arched a wry, curious eyebrow. "What is it, Janine?"

"What is the Rasengan?" Janine asked.

Dawn could only sigh in resigned, mild exasperation. For their part, Kenny and Mina both chuckled in amusement over Dawn being tripped up by their shenanigans.

(Unknown location, Kanto region)

Admin Hanae of the Kanto Sector of Team Heart was in the martial arts sparring room he had set up in the Team Heart base he was at. With him was Emi, his Admin's Assistant. Both were barefoot as they looked to the wall on the far end of the room opposite of the door into the room. A section of the wall was parted, mechanically, revealing a large screen that had been hidden behind the wall up until just now.

The screen was lit up, and it showed Boss's Assistant Bianca, seated at her desk in her office at her large stately manor in Opelucid City, Unova. The very obese girl had a hint of piqued interest on her face as she regarded Hanae and Emi. "Admin Hanae," Bianca began, "Why are both you and your Admin's Assistant barefoot?"

"Oh, we're speaking to you from the sparring room I set up at the Kanto Sector's base," Hanae said, "I have a strict no shoes policy for the room."

"Ah yes, you're a skilled and experienced fighter," Bianca remarked, "But that's besides the point. Anyway, I've just gotten word from the Johto Sector that one of your Sector's Captains, that Jessie girl who was once a member of that Team Rocket group that no longer exists, had arrived in Johto with her Captain's Assistant."

Nodding once, Hanae said, "Ah yes, Jessie and Merdez. They both had a terrible run in with Dawn Berlitz here in Kanto and-"

"Dawn Berlitz is in Kanto?" Bianca spoke up, interrupting Hanae, "What is the Champion of Sinnoh and Monarch of the World Coronation Series doing in Kanto?" It was clear that Bianca was a little bit alarmed at the idea of Dawn running around unchecked by Team Heart.

"I'm not entirely sure," Hanae replied, looking a bit worried he may have upset Bianca, "I can look into the matter if you'd like."

The look on Bianca's round, plump face became firm and serious. "See that you do. Dawn is a girl who Team Heart can't afford to have running around unchecked. She could throw our efforts to claim Kanto for the Team Heart regime off kilter if she sticks around. We have Kanto surrounded, what with Johto, the Orange Islands, and the Delacore Islands claimed as sovereign land belonging to Team Heart. But taking Kanto can be made next to impossible if Dawn Berlitz sticks around."

Hanae nodded in agreement. "I understand completely, Lady Bianca."

Bianca was about to speak up, but a somewhat younger female voice spoke up from off camera, "Oh, Bianca, you're not busy are you?"

Bianca looked over off camera and saw the source of the voice, and instantly Bianca's expression softened. "Ah, Rosa!" Bianca greeted, "Sorry, I'm in the middle of a video call with one of my men. What is it?"

"The chefs said that dinner is ready," the girl speaking from off camera, apparently named Rosa, replied, "Everyone is basically waiting for you."

"Ooh, I was getting hungry anyways," Bianca said. Turning to look at Hanae, Bianca said, "Sorry, but it's time for me to get dinner. Remember to look into that matter for me." The video call then ended before Hanae could say anything.

As the monitor turned off and the sections of wall moved back to conceal the monitor once more, Emi said to Hanae, "We really have no clue as to what Dawn Berlitz and her companions are doing in the Kanto region. How do we find out?"

Hanae held a hand to his chin, wore a contemplative look on his handsome pretty boy face. "Well she's so far encountered Jessie who's the Fourth Captain, then Mendoza who's the Third Captain, and I got a report before our video call with Lady Bianca just now that Dawn Berlitz had met Scott who's the Second Captain." Clapping his hands together, Hanae said, "Emi, go fetch Ben for me."

"The First Captain?" Emi asked, looking mildly surprised, "Why him?"

"I've got an itching feeling that he'll be the next big name in Team Heart's Kanto Sector who will have a run in with Dawn Berlitz," Hanae replied, "And he is set to lead a mission soon in Saffron City. I'll just tell him before he goes off that I want him to, if he encounters Dawn Berlitz or anyone else who is a part of her crew, ask for details on why Dawn is in Kanto, then report to me when he gets back from his mission."

Emi had a look of concerned worry on her face. "The mission to Saffron City, to attack the Saffron City gym and do as much damage as possible."

Hanae nodded once in the affirmative. "Yes, that's the one, Emi."

"You're still hurting over how you were expelled from the Fighting Dojo solely because the dojo's financial supplier demanded it, aren't you?"

Hanae took pause at Emi's question. He looked a bit surprised, but settled down and wore a calm and accepting, albeit pained, small smile. "Well it's not my fault said financial supplier demanded my expulsion solely because I'm cocoa skinned, and he didn't like how I was the Fighting Dojo's best trainer which by default meant that I, who is a cocoa skinned person, was better than any of the fair skinned members of the Fighting Dojo."

Emi scowled at Hanae's pain. "It's not fair what happened to you, Admin Hanae. So what if you're cocoa skinned? Why can't you be allowed to shine over fair skinned peers?"

"The powers that be can be fickle like that, Emi," Hanae replied calmly, "But soon we'll have enough to make even them think twice about petty discrimination." A look of knowing mischief appeared on Hanae's face, showing he knows more than what he's letting on.

END, CHAPTER FIVE

Author's notes;

This chapter sees the reborn trainers go to the Safari Zone in Kanto to catch what all the Safari Zone can offer them to help with the quest to complete the Kanto Pokédex. But Janine visits in the middle of the night and gets caught, before being made to explain herself. It's there that the reborn trainers learn more about what exactly drives some of Team Heart.

Then Fuchsia City is attacked, and Dawn plus the other heroes are able to drive Team Heart off while capturing a few rank and file level members. But the Captain and his Assistant both get away, meaning the good guys fail again to catch a big name from Team Heart. With what all business in Fuchsia City settled, Dawn and her crew take off for their next destination.

Meanwhile Hanae and Emi have a video call with Bianca, and it's there that Bianca learns that Dawn is in Kanto. She orders Hanae to find out why before ending the call. Hanae gets the idea to give the job of learning why Dawn is in Kanto to the First Captain of the Kanto Sector, a man named Ben. But the kind of person that Ben is will be shown next time. Until then, take care.
