What Happens in Vegas

Chapter 4: First Date Vegas Style

"Sorry Sam, I didn't realize 'Top of the World' (A/N1) has a dress code." Jack apologized to her as they walked into 'PT's Wings & Sports' (A/N2). "That's okay Jack, the restaurant menu is bit pricey. This is more our speed anyways." Sam responded squeezing his hand while smiling. "I wanted our first date to be special. Maybe we can find a place to rent appropriate outfits then go tonight. Make it more romantic while looking at Lost Wages at night time." he suggested pulling out her chair as they were seated. Samantha giggled at his name for Las Vegas while taking in the sports bar. "We don't have to Jack; I'm perfectly fine in jeans and a t-shirt." She said imagining dancing with Jack holding her close. "Your call, I just know you'd be the center of attention. You are a national treasure after all." He complimented running his thumb over her hand. "Your embarrassing me Jack, stop it." She said blushing at his comment. Before he could reply the waiter arrived to take their orders then left. The two of them continued to talk unaware of the older couple watching them intently.

"I believe your right Melissa. He does look like the one who shot Senator Kinsey a couple of years ago. What was his name?" the ladies husband asked looking again. "The guy was an Air Force colonel, that's what our grandson told us?" she answered looking back at the couple. The young woman is lovely, probably unaware of the danger she might be in. "He also said that the colonel didn't like the senator. Don't know why. Kinsey is really pleasant man. Has our best interests at heart." Tony said thinking back to what the news said. "He treats our grandson like his own. Kinsey kept him on staff after becoming Vice President." Melissa added praising the current vice president. "O'Neill, Colonel Jack O'Neill is his name Melissa." Tony remembered snapping his fingers. "Your right dear, didn't they clear him of charges saying he was framed?" she asked finishing her food. "They did but Bill said there was something fishy about the whole thing. Never completely believe what the news says, they have an agenda too." Her husband admonished. "Yes dear, you're not going to say anything is you? That man looks like he could be dangerous. Poor you lady doesn't have a clue." Melissa humored her husband who always ranted about politics. "I just might. Men like that shouldn't be walking around free." Tony replied finishing his food too. "Just don't make a big scene, say your peace and move on. No need to ruin our vacation." Melissa told her husband. Tony has always been head strong in these instances. "No promises dear."

"Did you enjoy your food Carter? Mine tasted good although we get the same stuff back home only cheaper." Jack remarked looking around the gambling floor taking in the various noises and activities. "Mine was filling but your right. We're paying Lost Wages prices." She replied enjoying their non work talk. Out the corner of his peripheral vision the older couple that left before them were approaching Carter and he. Not sensing any danger Jack dismissed them but not totally. "Pardon me Colonel O'Neill, do you have a moment to talk?" asked Tony causing Jack to momentarily freeze. Red were flags going up quickly. Sam looked at Jack going on high alert too. To her knowledge no one here should know them. "Keep walking Sam, I don't know who he is and don't care too." He told her getting a nod. "Colonel Jack O'Neill, the man who shot Senator Kinsey, I knew it was you." Tony said in a low tone. Jack stopped walking knowing he had to address the old man. Damn Kinsey for forcing him to attend that press conference. Every now and then a person would call him out. Sam didn't know what to do or say, this is new to her. She however got ready to protect her man if need be. "Sir, I don't know who you are or what you want. I don't have time for silly games..." Jack told the man turning to walk away. "Tony, let the Colonel be. He clearly doesn't want to be bothered." Melissa told her husband. "No dear, I'm going to say my peace. Colonel, I don't know what you have against the vice president. He's an honorable man looking out for the people. We need more like him. I don't believe what the media said about you after the fact. You are guilty in my eyes." Tony stated standing his ground.

Samantha could see Jack getting angry, rightfully so. Kinsey isn't an honorable man; he's a snake in the grass she thought. "With all due respect sir, you have no idea what kind of man Kinsey is. I'll tell you though. Kinsey is a power hungry snake. He'll do whatever it takes to get power. We know this first hand." Jack replied stepping closer. "Kinsey puts on a good act for the public but in private he'll sell you out. Now leave me and my lady alone, we are here to enjoy ourselves. Which were not doing because of an uninformed voter?" Sam and Jack walked away quickly noticing security approaching not wanting any further confrontation. "Young lady, that man is dangerous. You'd be wise to find another." Melissa yelled letting her thoughts known. Sam turned around, grinned wide. "Jack is only dangerous to those who are enemies and those he distrusts. I'm not harmless as I may look either." She said then took Jacks hand leading them away from the area. Security seeing that the problem resolved itself without issues backed off. "They were rude Tony, young people these days." Melissa commented. "When we get home I'm calling our grandson. Tell him who we meet, maybe Kinsey can have the colonel disciplined." Tony remarked walking the opposite way angry he didn't get to say everything he wanted.

"Where did that come from?" he asked out loud angry about the comments the older couple said. "Don't worry about it Jack, there will always be people like them around." Sam replied trying to calm him down. "Still don't sit well with me. Kinsey will be a pain in my arse even by proxy." Jack answered as they walked around. "What would you like do now Jack?" she asked with thoughts going back to their earlier activities. "Let's go exploring, see what kind of trouble we can get into? Maybe that will get my mind off our unwelcome encounter of the rude kind!" She giggled at his remark. "No giggling Carter." which made her giggle more.

Sam spotted the concierge desk as they were headed to the garage. Getting an idea she led Jack over to it with a surprised look. "Pardon us sir, could you help us with few things concerning your 'Top of the World restaurant?" she asked giving him a smile. Jack stood there looking at Sam trying figuring out what she was up to. Didn't Sam just say she didn't need to eat at the overly priced dining facility? "Yes Madam, how may I be of assistance to you?" the concierge asked folding his hand on the counter. "My boyfriend and I would like to dine at 'Top of the World' tonight. Do we make reservations with you? Also, where can we rent or buy appropriate attire and do they have a dance floor?" Sam asked then looked at a perplexed Jack O'Neill. She took his hand looking into his eyes. They had a brief conversation before turning attention back to the concierge. "I can help with everything ma'am, sir." The man replied turning his attention back to the computer. "I have a 6:30 reservation that just opened up. Will that work for the two of you?" he asked looking back at them. They were clearly in love, had been for a long time he observed. "That would be perfect." Jack answered imagining Sam in a slinky dress. "With dinner booked, now your attire for the night. Contact 'Rent-A-Dress & Tux' (A/N1) .I booked the two of yous an appointment at 3:00 this afternoon." The concierge said placing a business Card on the counter then continued. "The dance floor (A/N2) opens at 8:00 after diner is complete. Is there anything else I can do for the two of you?" he asked pleasantly. "I believe you covered everything. Thank you for your help sir." Jack replied giving the man a $20 dollar bill as a tip. The concierge watched the couple walk away thinking about his wife at home. He prayed the couple would have a chance at a wonderful life.

"What made you change your mind Carter?" Jack asked walking her towards the garage. "You needed a distraction from that rude couple for one. Two...Janet would kick me for passing up an opportunity to dance with you in a slinky dress." Samantha answered with a megawatt smile. "Your right on both points Carter. " He replied putting his hand on the small of her back causing electricity to course through their bodies. "Let's take your Harley Jack. We can avoid more trouble that way if I'm not riding mine." Samantha said giving him a devil may care look. "That would be a great idea. In fact we should take mine everywhere until we leave. That stunt you pulled this morning undoubtedly got the attention anyone watching the cameras." He stated walking up their motorcycles. "You underestimate my powers of persuasion Jack." Samantha replied in a sultry voice. "Uh huh, I thought so. You watched 'The Cannon Ball Run' as kid, didn't you?" Jack guessed knowing her love of speed and adventure. "I was so disappointed that my first car wasn't a Lamborghini Countach." She said with sarcasm. "That's funny Carter...real funny. Let's get going before you decide to take your Indian." Jack swung his leg over the Fat boy then started it up with the distinctive Harley sound resonating. Sam got on behind him wrapping her legs around his torso with a grin. "...Samantha, your killing me here." He told her leaving the garage via their helmet mikes. "Would you rather I ride my Indian instead?" she asked with a hidden smirk. "Never Samantha, you are right where you belong." Jack replied as they rode past a black government Crown Victoria pulling into the casino parking garage.
