Legacies and Lightning: Chapter 13
Land of Waves Shores: With Naruto, Anko, Kurenai and Yakumo
Naruto jumped off of the small boat along with the rest of his team onto the shores of the land of waves; they spent the past 2 days sailing their way towards the shores and another day of sneaking by the blockade of pirates that patrol the water.
So far Naruto was the most impatient out of all of his team "about time; I was so sick of being on those damn boats" Naruto said and the boat captain looked at Naruto and his team and spoke.
"Good luck everyone; you're going to need it" the man said before he hit the motor and went back out to sea.
"Gee… thanks" Anko said with a sweat drop and Kurenai cleared her throat as she adjusted her backpack.
"Ok everyone, we should get moving" Kurenai said as she opened a map and spoke "from where we are and where Kakashi said he and his team is holding up; we need to go about 20 miles northeast".
"Alright then" Anko said as she cracked her neck and looked at Naruto and Yakumo "you two, we're going into a diamond formation and keep your eyes peeled; Kakashi and his team got ambushed and we should expect the same".
"Alright" Naruto said with a nod.
"Ok" Yakumo said with determination.
"Lets get moving" Kurenai said as the group got into formation and began walking to the rally point.
4 hours later: With Naruto and his team
Naruto and his team were going at a 5 miles per hour pace walking towards the rally point; Anko was on point and she saw through the trees smoke in the air and a house in the distance.
"I see a house" Anko said and everyone got on alert "stay on your toes"; Naruto grabbed a fuma shuriken from the seal on the back of his trench coat, Kurenai popped the button on her kunai holster and Yakumo got ready to perform a genjutsu if needed.
As the group walked towards the house they saw a sight that made them feel dread; a young boy wearing overalls and a fishing hat was kneeling in front of a grave crying next to the head stone.
Kurenai and Yakumo both felt their hearts break while Anko and Naruto got worried that someone died while they were traveling to the land of waves.
"Oh shit" Anko said and the boy spun around frightened.
"Who are you? What do you want?" the boy said and Kurenai spoke to him in a calm and even tone.
"Calm down, we are not here to hurt you" Kurenai said "we're here to help Kakashi Hatake and his team". The boy scowled and spoke
"Oh you're friends with those weaklings" the boys said shocking them all "well take them away and leave us be".
"Wait whose left?" Naruto asked and the boy spoke.
"The one eyed man, the loud girl, the one with the bad attitude and the creepy one" the boy said and Yakumo pointed at the grave.
"Then who's that?" Yakumo asked and the boy spoke.
"My grandpa, the person they were suppose to protect" the boy said and both Anko and Kurenai felt their stomachs drop.
"Yakumo… stay with the boy" Anko said and Yakumo nodded as she walked over to the boy who continued to cry "Naruto; you're with us".
"Ok" Naruto said as he, Anko and Kurenai walked towards the house and knocked on the door' the door opened and Sai appeared apparently unharmed with his fake smile.
"Well, hello there" Sai said and both Naruto and Anko shuddered.
"Wipe that fucking smile off your face" Anko shouted at him.
"Stop creeping people out dude" Naruto said and Sai nodded.
"I apologize" Sai said "please come in"; Sai opened the door all the way and Naruto, Anko and Kurenai stepped in. Kakashi using crutches sat on the floor, Sakura had a bandage on her neck, Sasuke had his head and ribs wrapped in bandages and a woman was bringing tea to the table.
"Oh hello there, I'm Tsunami" the woman known as Tsunami said "I see you met my son Inari"; Tsunami looked out the open door as she saw a girl holding her son as he cried in her arms.
"Hello Ms.Tsunami" Naruto said with a smile.
Kurenai looked to Kakashi who had his head handing down and was wondering what she was going to say 'I should be careful in what I say, this is a delicate situation' she thought 'last thing I want to do it-'
"YOU FUCKING FAILURES" Anko roared at Kakashi and his team.
'Damn it Anko' Kurenai thought as she rubbed her temples.
"You let your client get killed, got three fourths of your team injured and wasted our time to come and help you on a failed mission" Anko said crossing her arm before looking at Kakashi "what the fuck happened".
Kakashi sighed and spoke "we ran into Zabuza Momochi; the demon of the hidden mist" he said "I was fighting him until I got captured in a water prison; Sasuke attempted to rescue me by himself and Sai had to save him".
"I could've done it" Sasuke said looking at Kakashi who glared at him.
"Sasuke… shut the hell up" Kakashi said in a warning tone "I ordered you and the others to retreat; but you charged in and got beaten like a rented mule". Sasuke huffed and scowled as he picked up his cup of tea and drank "anyway, when Sai stepped away to save Sasuke Sakura and the bridge builder Tazuna were hit in the neck by senbon knocking them out, and a hunter ninja wearing a Kiri mask took Tazuna".
"They all arrived here about an hour after it happened" Tsunami said chiming in "Sai here was planning on going on a recon mission the next day".
"Well what happened" Naruto asked and Tsunami spoke up.
"Inari went to go and fish and when he did he exited the home and saw my fathers corpse in front of the house" Tsunami said "he had his throat cut but it looked like who ever dropped him there cleaned him up, stitched his wound and changed his cloths".
"Fuck me" Naruto said not believing what he was hearing.
"So you found out he was dead and from the sound of it we were already on the way here" Kurenai said with a sigh "so why didn't you contact Konoha about the failure of the mission?"
"Because our mission is still going on" Sai said speaking up "Mr. Tazuna's mission was 'escort him to the land of waves and oversee the construction of his bridge".
"Ok… so" Naruto said and Sai pulled up a backpack in the corner and spoke.
"When the hunter ninja grabbed Tazuna, his backpack containing the construction plans fell off" Sai said making Naruto's group go wide eyed "we gave the plans to Tazuna's foreman and for the past few days they have been preparing to continue building the bridge".
"Holy crap" Anko said "so that's why you didn't leave; your still defending the bridge".
"That's right" Kakashi said "Sai and Sakura have been guarding the bridge while me and Sasuke have been healing". "So yes even though Tazuna died… as much as it pains me to say it" Kakashi said as he looked at Tsunami who got a saddened looked "the mission is still going on, so we must continue our work; which is where you come in".
"You want us to help you defend the bridge as it continues being built" Kurenai said and Kakashi nodded "alright, we can help; now we have two jonin and four genin available while you two rest up". "It might be smart to have twenty four hour protection of the bridge; three shifts, eight hours each to guard the bridge" Kurenai said.
"Alright" Kakashi said "me and Sasuke should be on our feet in another week; once we're healed we can join you".
"I just hope this doesn't take forever; I want to head back to the village and train" Naruto said gaining everyone's attention "I want to meet Anko and Kurenai sensei's friend to teach me kenjutsu".
"Kenjutsu" Kakashi asked and Naruto nodded.
"Yeah, check it out" Naruto said as he pulled the Sword of The Thunder god from his belt and activated it " I want to learn how to wield a sword so I can use it".
"T-that's the second Hokage sword that was stolen several years ago by Aoi Rokusho" Kakashi said astonished "Naruto, where did you get that?"
"I killed him and took it" Naruto said as he stared at his sword "now I have my own sword and a badass one at that"; Naruto deactivated the sword and put it back on his belt. Sasuke looking at Naruto scowled and stood up and began to walk over.
"Hey loser" Sasuke said gaining Naruto's attention "give me that sword"; Naruto looked at Sasuke and put his hand on the sword hilt as though ready to grab it.
"And why would I do that?" Naruto said as he got ready for a fight with Sasuke.
"Because a sword of that caliber is wasted on someone like you" Sasuke said with a smirk "now hand it over and there won't be any problems"; Sasuke held out his hand and Naruto scowled.
"Put that fucking hand down before I chop it off" Naruto said; Sakura got up and spoke.
"Don't talk to Sasuke like that you idiot" Sakura said to Naruto "he's right, someone like you shouldn't have a sword like that".
Naruto was about to speak up when Sai got to his feet and without saying a word sent a hook punch towards Sasuke's cracked ribs; Sasuke crumpled to the ground and Naruto looked to Sai in surprise.
"Thank you Sai; I appreciate that" Kakashi said before he looked at Sasuke 'arrogant little shit'.
"What the hell Sai" Sakura shouted, Sai looked to her and spoke.
"Shut up" Sai said coldly with a glare and Sakura back off; Sai looked to Naruto and spoke "Naruto, if you want I can show you the basics of sword handling". Naruto looked at Sai as he tapped the short sword on his back "I'm quite skilled and can help you" he said.
Naruto smiled at this and moved his hand off his sword "sure Sai, sounds good" Naruto said before looking at Sasuke who was struggling to get back up after the punch to his ribs.
"This isn't over" Sasuke said as he got to his feet "I will have that sword"; Sasuke began to walk away and Naruto looked at him with disdain.
"Sasuke, wait up" Sakura said as she got to her feet and went after Sasuke.
"Prick" Naruto said.
"At least you don't have to baby sit him" Kakashi said "by the way Naruto, I'm also quite skilled in kenjutsu as well; I can also give you come pointers". Naruto looked at Kakashi and felt a little hesitant; Naruto still harbored resentment towards him for basically abandoning him for most of his child hood and showing him attention when he became a ninja.
But then again Kakashi did save him from Sasuke's fireball and and has apologized on numerous occasions; Naruto rubbed the back of his head and spoke.
"I'm fine Kakashi sensei, I'll just have Sai train me while you're healing" Naruto said trying not to make eye contact; Kakashi let out a sigh of disappointment as he hoped Naruto would've said yes.
"It's ok, I understand" Kakashi said.
"How about we go and train now?" Sai asked Naruto who nodded.
"Sure, sounds good" Naruto said as he and Sai walked out trying to avoid the awkward moment.
As both boys exited the house Kurenai spoke up "well at least he isn't hostile towards you anymore" she said and Kakashi sighed.
"But he's still not wanting anything to do with me" Kakashi said as he ran his hands through his hair "what I wouldn't give to have Naruto as my only genin; Sasuke and Sakura have only been a pain in my ass, Sai… he's just weird".
"I mean what do you expect; you abandoned him as a child" Anko said and Tsunami looked at Kakashi.
"Wait, you what?" Tsunami said looking at Kakashi incredulously.
"It's a long and uncomfortable story" Kakashi said.
With Naruto and Sai
Naruto and Sai walked through the woods to get away from the house in order to train; they walked in silence until Sai spoke up.
"Why do you hate Kakashi sensei?" Sai asked bluntly "he has been trying to reconcile with you over his past mistakes and yet you push him away".
"Wow you are as blunt as a brick" Naruto said as he looked at Sai; Naruto sighed and spoke "I don't hate him, I just resent him". "I went through most of my life with no one and I find out Kakashi sensei is one of two people who were supposed to take care of me" Naruto said "I did hate him at first, then I didn't want anything to do with him; now… I don't know, I don't forgive that easily".
"So why did you forgive Anko sensei; didn't she try to kill you" Sai said and Naruto spoke.
"No, she didn't actively try to kill me; she almost killed me" Naruto said "if she actually wanted to kill me, I wouldn't be here right now". "She was trying to test me through a live combat scenario; and it worked too well" Naruto said "while I did forgive her, mostly because of Kurenai sensei, I will never let her forget it because well… I almost died". "Kakashi is different, he had responsibilities towards me and he ignored them for nearly ten years" Naruto said "Forgiving Anko is one thing, but Kakashi is another beast altogether ; how can I forgive him after years of neglecting me and leaving me all alone?"
"I see your point" Sai said "but Kakashi can be a valuable ally and mentor to you; despite his flaws, I can tell he wishes to reconcile".
"Why do you care so much?" Naruto asked "what do you gain from it?"
"Nothing" Sai said simply although Naruto knew that wasn't true.
"Whatever" Naruto said as he and Sai continued walking so they can begin their training.
Time Skip; 1 week later: With Naruto, his team and team seven
Team Anko, Team Kurenai and Team 7 were all sitting at the table eating breakfast as they got ready for another day of guarding the bridge and training; so far the past week has been uneventful as there have been no attacks or ambushes on the workers.
This made Kakashi, Anko and Kurenai uneasy as they expected some kind of attack; Kakashi told them that Zabuza and his comrade was still out there but they haven't seem them at all.
Naruto, Yakumo and Sai ate together and chatted with themselves about various things from training to politics inside the village.
"From what I hear Kumo has been making a lot better progress in rebuilding and repairing political ties with Konoha" Sai said as he ate some rice "Iwa hasn't been so lucky; and considering what the fourth Hokage did to them during the last war, I'm not surprised".
"Kumo? That's surprising; I heard their Raikage was stubborn" Yakumo said before looking at Naruto "Hey Naruto, doesn't your friend Yuui live in Kumo?"
Naruto looked at her and nodded "yeah she does; haven't seen her in a long time though" Naruto said "I hope she's doing ok, her mom Uzui too; her dad well… I only met him once but he looked cool".
"What did he look like" Yakumo said and Naruto spoke.
"Dude was built like a brick shit house" Naruto said "he was jacked as hell, he also had a mustache and dark skin; he was a lot darker than Yuui though, since she's 'biracial'". Naruto looked to Kurenai "that's the right word right Kurenai sensei?"
"Yes that's the word Naruto" Kurenai said with a smile.
"You have a friendship with a foreign ninja Naruto?" Sasuke said looking at Naruto with a glare "don't you have any sense of loyalty to the village; collaboration with the enemy is something a real Konoha shinobi will never do".
"The only thing I ever got from Konoha was glares and beatings" Naruto said with an equally angry glare "Konoha should be glad I didn't do what your brother did on a village wide scale".
Sasuke rose to his feet and shouted "HOW DARE YOU" Sasuke shouted; Tsunami and Inari peered out for the kitchen seeing Sasuke shout.
Naruto got to his feet and shouted back "FUCK YOU PRICK; YOU'RE THE ASSHOLE WHO KEEPS STARTING EVERYTHING" he shouted "YOU WANNA GO, LETS FUCKING GO".
"Please boys, no fighting inside the house" Tsunami begged and Naruto looked at her; Naruto then looked back to Sasuke and spoke.
"Lets take this outside" Naruto said before taking off his sword and throwing it to Yakumo who took it "hold that for me". Naruto and Sasuke began to walk to the door and Yakumo spoke up
"N-Naruto wait; don't fight, use your words and-" Yakumo began but Anko put her hand on her shoulder.
"Don't, let them hash it out" Anko whispered before looking at Naruto and spoke "kick his ass Naruto"; Kurenai looked to her and spoke.
"Must you always encourage violence" Kurenai said and Anko nodded.
"Violence solves a lot of problems" Anko said.
Naruto took off his trench coat and threw it to the side "Don't cry when I mess up that face of yours Sasuke" he said; Naruto opened the door and saw someone standing there getting ready to to knock. "Oh, hey; can I help you?" Naruto asked and everyone looked to the door; Sasuke, Sai, Sakura and Kakashi all went wide eyed at who they saw.
There was an individual wearing a Kiri hunter ninja mask with long black hair, done into a bun, a blue Kimono top with a brown long sleeve shirt underneath, brown pants and a brown sash acting as a belt.
Kakashi, Sasuke, Sakura and Sai all got up drawing their weapons and Naruto, Anko, Kurenai and Yakumo became alarmed.
"Woah what the hell is going on?" Naruto said and Kakashi spoke.
"This is the hunter ninja that killed Tazuna" Kakashi shouted and Naruto looked at the hunter ninja.
"My name is Haku and I did not kill the old man, master Zabuza did" Haku said "although I was the one who dropped off his body for proper burial". Naruto, Anko, Kurenai and Yakumo got up as well taking out kunai and Naruto spoke.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Naruto asked and Haku raised his hands up.
"I'm here to parlay with you all" Haku said and Naruto raised an eyebrow.
"There ain't no party here dude" Naruto said and everyone sweat dropped.
"He means he's here to talk Naruto" Kurenai said and Naruto nodded in realization "what do you wish to talk about?"
"My master Zabuza wishes to speak with you" Haku said and Kakashi raised and eyebrow "our previous employer has been most… uncooperative with us".
"So what your saying is; he screwed you guys over" Anko said and Haku nodded.
"Yes he did and master Zabuza wishes to talk with you" Haku said and the 3 jonin looked at each other.
"Alright" Kakashi said putting away his kunai "the jonin will go; you stay here under guard by out genin".
"Very well" Haku said before pulling out a scroll "directions to the meeting point"; Anko took the scroll and looked to Naruto.
"If we are not back in an hour… kill him" Anko said and Naruto nodded.
"Gotcha" Naruto said and Kakashi spoke up.
"Sai; you're in charge" Kakashi said and Sai nodded; Kakashi looked to Kurenai and Anko and spoke "lets go". The 3 jonin exited the house leaving the 5 genin and Haku behind.
Naruto grabbed his sword from Yakumo and Naruto activated it with the yellow blade of lightning shooting out. Naruto pointed the sword at Haku and spoke "sit down and don't move" Naruto said and Haku walked in, closed the door and took a seat at the table. Naruto moved behind him with his sword still activated ready to cut his head off in case he tried anything suspicious.
Sasuke, Sakura, Sai and Yakumo all sat down at the table with Tsunami and Inari holding each other in the kitchen; Haku looked around and spoke "It's a pleasure to meet you all" Haku said.
Naruto's heart was pounding as he held the sword as he tried to make sense of what just transpired in the last five minutes; Naruto let out a breath and spoke.
"I have a bad feeling about this" Naruto said.
