Chapter 11
(3rd person)
When Percy fell asleep, Diana lifted him and carefully laid him out in his bed. Hearing him break down like this, just made her realise just how much he needed someone. And just how dangerous his fatal flaw of loyalty was… Being betrayed by someone he was so utterly loyal to just revealed how much his fatal flaw could hurt him, and how much it could be his downfall.
So, Diana kissed him on the forehead caringly and a small smile came across his face of peace. She pondered for a second, shook her head and walked out. The hunters were all stood there, still wet from the storm but since it was over their weapons were away. Yet they were still cautious.
Thalia was the first to step forward.
"Milady, what happened? Is Percy okay?"
Diana shook her head,
"Come to the campfire. We all need to talk."
The hunters all had confused faces, except for Thalia, she seemed to know what was going on.
Diana walked into the campfire area. A small hearth was sat in the middle of the area. The marble hearth - smoothed to perfection and filled with smoulders and ash – was often tended to by Hestia. A large cover spread through the trees protecting the camp from any potential rain, keeping the coals burning.
pDiana gestured to the seating area which consisted of fallen trees and logs – unappealing to travellers but comfort for the hunters.
"Please sit girls and we'll discuss everything that's going to happen now, and for the next few months."
All the hunters took their seat and waited for Diana to talk.
"Okay I understand that you have a lot of questions so you can take this time to ask me any questions while Percy is sleeping."
One of the hunters, who had dark brown hair and dark green eyes – a daughter of Demeter – asked the first question.
"Milady, why is it you look a lot older? I remember you said something about Romans?"
Diana realised that she had been in her roman form ever since the council meeting.
She quickly shifted back into her 13-year-old form. And Artemis started to explain the roman gods.
"So, as you know when we moved to Rome from Greece, they started to worship us under different names and aliases. Though we were still the same Greek gods, we became different to our original counterparts and gained another personality of sorts due to the more formal and serious vision that the romans had and due to being seen as more mysterious and dedicated to their roles than the Greek gods, they don't visit their demigod children as much which I still think is terrible. Nor do they have many children as mortal, very different to our Greek forms. As the romans were so focused on growing their empire and going to war, they were more skilled in the ways of combat and care a lot more about honour. However, some Roman gods do not have a Greek aspect due to being born in the roman religion such as terminus the roman god of boundaries. And that is everything about the roman gods…"
"The hunters were in absolute shock. But some of them scolded themselves, they should have known.
"... but that's not it for our roman aspects. We haven't talked about their demigods yet."
Thalia decided to speak up for the first time, which is surprising considering the serious look that she's had on her face during all of this.
"There's a roman camp isn't there."
Artemis wasn't shocked that Thalia had guessed it, but there was something in her voice that suggested she knew something more about it. She is going to have to ask her about that later.
"You're right Thalia, we try to restrict interaction between the two because a lot of the time, it doesn't end well… The American civil war for example…"
"So, is that why were never allowed towards the west of America? Is the roman camp there?"
An intuitive daughter of Athena named Marie was the one to figure this out.
"You're right, but we had to keep it secret, we couldn't cause another mass war where we lost so many Olympian offspring."
All the hunters started nodding, starting to come to grips with this, until Artemis finished her piece.
"But we are going to be heading there with Percy…"
Now the hunters kicked off.
"WE DON'T WANT TO GO TO THAT ROMAN CAMP."
"ROMAN BOYS WILL PROBABLY BE WORSE THAN GREEK BOYS"
"WHY DO WE HAVE TO?"
"WHY DO WE HAVE TO GO WITH THAT BOY?"
"Artemis heard one of the older hunters spoke up and voiced their man hating concerns. While she understood their reaction, she was not going to accept anyone abuse her son.
"That boy is now my son, and we are going to train him in the way of the hunt so that he can not just do me proud but all of you as well, so you can know that there is hope in boys because my son is nothing but kind and respectful. He has always done whatever he can to help others, always being selfless. Percy is possibly the most powerful demigod ever, and yet he doesn't brag or show off. He caused that storm, not on purpose but when he was reacting to a nightmare. With that much power you'd expect him to be arrogant but no, he isn't in anyway. That's one of the reasons why I adopted him. He lost his best friend to save the world. He lost his mother. All this on his 16th birthday because he was the prophecy child. He needs a family, and that's what we're going to give him."
The hunters stayed stoic, trying to process everything that Artemis had just told them. She sighed knowing her hunters would not be won over that easily.
"Just get some sleep for now, we're packing up in the morning and going west."
They all nodded reluctantly, knowing there was no way to change their mistresses mind.
"But Thalia, I want a word please."
Thalia simply nodded emotionless and stayed sat down waiting for the hunters to leave.
Artemis moved over to Thalia and sat next to her cross legged on the log.
"Talk to me lieutenant, there's something you're not telling me."
Thalia's eyes were filled with something, a sadness of the past that was haunting her.
"When I ran away from my mother I said it was because she was horrible and crazy. And she was. But there's one more thing I have never told anyone..."
Artemis gestured for her to go on, curious as to what was making Thalia so anxious. She took a deep breath and carried on.
"I had a brother. A real brother, because mum missed Zeus so much, she prayed and prayed until finally he came back. But this time, he was different. More military like, more serious. And then Jason was born. But when he was 6, he was taken away from me, my mother gave him a away. I don't know who to but she did. And I ran away. Never seeing either of them again. But now knowing that there are roman gods, maybe dad was roman when seeing my mother again, maybe Jason was roman. And maybe, just maybe, he's at this camp. Because I miss my little brother..."
Thalia had tears in her eyes at this point. One of the most headstrong and toughest hunters that Thalia had ever had, was currently here crying in the hope of seeing her brother, one she thought was dead.
Artemis embraced her. Bringing Thalia close.
"We'll find out what happened. We'll find your little brother."
There you go guys, another filler will be action soon I promise. ima work on the 3 months with the hunters next. Question though, shall i make jason a nice guy? or a big headed son of jupiter? Looking at how Annabeth turned out, you can probably guess how I want to portray him, but its up to you guys.
