Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter
...
Harry had garnered something which he would call akin to a sixth sense regarding when he was being stalked in the hallways. It could very well have been from the heightened danger whilst on the run from Snatchers. More likely though it was from the previous efforts that the female students of Hogwarts had launched on him in the past.
A sly glance over his shoulder reassured him that he was indeed the matter of attention for at least three female students, each doing their best to remain hidden to different levels of success. A quick recollection of the calendar and the sheer amount of snow beginning to fall outside was an indication that the first trip to Hogsmeade was swiftly approaching. Given that the Potter Fan Club was likely back in full swing now with Umbridge gone, chances were that there was some sort of game going on that he was unaware of.
The previous school year he had been invited to Hogsmeade by a number of students who had varied in their requests for him to journey with them to the nearby village. The fact that he was too young didn't seem to phase them in the slightest despite the rules of the academy. Now though there weren't such limitations and they were very much aware of the fact. Hence the game was afoot.
Given how many times that he had actively visited the village, both on official Hogsmeade visits along with the amounts of time he had snuck in, he didn't particularly have any real want to go. However, that was him on a personal level. For the him that was in the public eye however, he was a third year student who was expected to join the rest of his peers in visiting the village for the 'first time.' If he wasn't to go, it would raise more questions than anything else.
Hence, he would be going. While there he could look for something for both Luna's mother along with something for the Delacour family.
It was just a question of who he would be going with. Given that the female students seemed to be having their own game ongoing, it only made sense that he should play along. Wouldn't be fun otherwise.
...
Daphne sat with her arms across her chest as she looked at the other three occupants of the room. Hermione Granger was the obvious one, the student who had invited her into this collaboration. Currently she was breaking down her plan, meticulously listing what would be required for each of them for it all too work. The plan itself was sound, Daphne couldn't find a fault in it.
Instead she was focusing on the student herself. She wasn't what somebody would call a popular student by any stretch of the imagination. Hermione would often only be found in the library and now Daphne could understand that she wasn't in there solely working on her Transfiguration assignments. Given how much she was ahead in all of her classes, it would give her ample time to work on extra curricular activities. Clearly she was using that time for the entertainment of the rest of the school while having nobody suspect her.
Shifting her gaze, Daphne looked at possibly the student who was more surprising than Hermione. Susan Bones, the niece of the Head of the DMLE, was a part of Potter Club. In theory, she was a perfect choice for the group purely for the fact that nobody would even consider her as a possibility. If she were to be caught, the fallout could have catastrophic effects. Daphne was likely thinking only in regards of worse case scenarios but the point still remained. Somebody who was related to such a high ranking official in the Ministry of Magic shouldn't be going around breaking the rules of Hogwarts. It was why Daphne would never have considered Susan.
As for the last occupant in the room, Luna Lovegood, Daphne didn't particularly have much of a read on her. Currently the younger student was swaying back and forth on their chair with a dreamy expression plastered across her face. She seemed to be paying attention which was a important aspect of it all and one that was slightly surprising given what little she had heard about the Ravenclaw student. Again though, this was the very reason as to why she wouldn't have expected Luna to be a part of Potter Club in the first place. Nobody would suspect that the girl who actively skipped through the hallways mumbling about some fantastical creature was a part of Potter Club, they wouldn't think her capable of assisting in the first place. Even with what Hermione was plotting, the Gryffindor had to have a huge amount of faith that Luna could play her part perfectly and it was that belief which kept her tongue in place.
These four students, herself included, were about to create something which in theory would last for weeks, be talked about for months and be completely harmless. The concept was simple enough, the research wouldn't take a great deal of time with the four of them each looking at their individual aspects to return to the group and, as she had just broken down, none of them would be suspicious in their behaviors. None of them screamed out the possibility of being a part of Potter Club. Nobody would look twice in their direction if they were doing research in the library or even in their respective common rooms.
For a brief moment, Daphne recalled how Hermione had invited her to be a part of this smaller group in the first place, writing to her from across the table in a way of conversation only they knew. What would have happened had she refused? Hermione had this plan in play, likely from the moment that their leader had given them free reign. She had actively sought Daphne out and had she refused, given how long Hermione had been a part of Potter Club, would have sought the assistance of Tracy or perhaps another student from Slytherin if there was another. This wasn't so much a prank on the school, as entertaining as it would be, but rather a show that students from all four houses could work cohesively together. Something which she had thought impossible before she had started Hogwarts just from what she had heard from members of her family.
"All right, does everybody understand what's needed of them?" asked Hermione as she finished.
"Positutively," said Luna and while none of the others were sure whether that was an actual word, they could all understand that she could do what was asked of her.
"What she said," said Susan.
"Crystal," said Daphne, rounding it off.
"Excellent, in which case we will meet back here after the weekend and hopefully be able to put everything into practice," declared Hermione. "If anybody has any issues, just let me know."
As she packed up her belongings, Daphne watched around the room as the other students did the same in relative silence. It felt somewhat...wrong. They were about to embark on a journey together but none of them had anything to say to one another outside of anything regarding Potter Club. They weren't friends. The walls of the school houses still isolated them.
"Hey..." started Daphne before shutting her mouth, surprised that she had spoken up in the first place.
"Yes, did you need to say something" asked Hermione.
Daphne felt her palms begin to sweat slightly as all attention locked on her. "Would any of you girls...maybe...like to go...for a...fly this weekend?" she managed to get out after what seemed like an eternity.
"Oh that sounds lovely," said Luna as she clasped her hands together in excitement. "It's been so long since I've been on a broom."
"Can we just do that?" asked Susan. "The only real people who still attend flying lessons are those trying to get onto their respective Quidditch teams. I know the school has a handful of brooms for flying lessons but can we actively ask Madam Hooch to use them just for a casual trip?"
"I wouldn't see why we couldn't," mused Luna. "All we'd have to do is ask Madam Hooch."
"Well, given that three of us will be heading out to Hogsmeade on Saturday, a flight after lunch on Sunday actually sounds rather nice," said Susan.
Hermione however hadn't really said anything since asking her question of Daphne, something that hadn't gone unnoticed by the other occupants of the room. "Are you alright Hermione?" asked Luna.
"Oh!" started Susan as her eyes lit up. "You had that fall back in first year didn't you."
Daphne's eyes went wide at hearing this news, wondering why she hadn't heard about it back in their first year. Somewhere in the back of her mind she could recall Draco laughing about how a 'silly Mudblood' had fallen off their broom. If it was coming out of his mouth of course she wouldn't have paid attention to it at the time but now it all made sense. Given how segregated the houses were at the time, and still were to a degree, she wouldn't have thought twice about it.
Hearing that it was Hermione Granger, the woman in front of her who had been outlying a plan for the past twenty minutes with full confidence, likely hadn't touched a broom for two years was heartbreaking. "Given it will likely be a touch of snowfall that day, I'm pretty sure it'd be a pretty magical experience," said Daphne, being very selective in her words. "After all, isn't Potter Club primarily about sharing magical experiences through Hogwarts?"
Hermione's smile spoke volumes in and of itself. "You know what you did don't you?"
"My, I haven't the foggiest of what you're implying," said Daphne with a coy shrug of the shoulders.
"Alright, a flight on Sunday after lunch," said Hermione, who still looked a little uncertain with the decision but was willing to give it a go.
"Yay, this will be fun!" squealed Luna in excitement. "I'll ask Madam Hooch when I run into her."
Daphne meanwhile considered the fact that while Potter Club was indeed teaching students from magical backgrounds that there was still wonder to be found in magic itself; perhaps they could still teach those without such a background that there was magic in something they considered normal.
...
"Alright, so...what's Harry doing in the courtyard?"
"He seems to be constructing a stall...I think?"
"But why would he be constructing a stall, if that's what it is?"
"Well I don't think he's selling cookies."
"Can you imagine if he was though?"
"How much do you think he would sell them for cause I know that there's plenty of girls who would buy them?"
"Girls focus. He's not selling cookies. At least I'm pretty sure he's not selling cookies."
"So what is he doing then?"
"We could just go up and ask..."
"And ruin this perfectly good opportunity to actively watch Harry work."
"Point, my bad."
"Wait, he's putting a sign up."
"What's it say."
"I swear if it says cookies for sale..."
"Enough with the cookies."
"I see it. 'Convince me to go to Hogsmeade with you. One chance, one date.'"
"Is he openly telling us to go up to him and the person with the best pitch wins?"
"Sounds like it to me."
"So do you think he's doing this because he knew that the PFC were all gunning for him?"
"I don't think anybody would have leaked it."
"So he just figured out what was going on?"
"Well, I mean it is Harry."
"True."
"Good point."
"So, do we just tell the others what he's doing?"
"I mean, that'd be the fair option."
"True, but...what say we go pitch our options first and then go tell the others."
"Oh! Me first!"
"No way, it was my idea!"
"I'll go last, gives me more time to think of what to ask him. Can't just go floundering in without any real idea of what to say."
"Oh damn, didn't think of that."
"Well, now what?"
Harry meanwhile had taken his seat behind his makeshift stall and was actively watching the four girls discuss amongst one another. Undoubtedly, the next few hours were going to be interesting.
...
"Hey Daphne, could I have a word?" asked Susan as she chased down the Slytherin student.
"Make it quick Bones," said Daphne, turning to face her fellow Potter Club member. Susan understood that the coldness emanating off of Daphne in that moment was part of her facade. She had something of a reputation to maintain after all given that theft were now in the public domain.
"Well, I just want you to be aware you owe me for your copy of 'Harry Potter and the Dance of the Mountain Troll,'" stated Susan being somewhat cryptic.
Daphne's brow lowered slightly as she tried to deduce what it was that Susan was actively telling her. After all, Tracy had gone and gotten the book for the both of them to share... "Oh. I see." Daphne finally said having figured out what Susan was saying. Tracy had gotten the children's book with the help of Susan. Hence, Tracy was aware that Susan was a part of Potter Club and vice versa. She was telling her that if she needed someone to bounce off of and talk to without revealing any more identities, Susan was there for her and Tracy. "Thank you for telling me this."
"Not a problem," said Susan, somewhat pleased that her message had managed to get through.
The two of them continued their walk through the halls, not necessarily side by side but not showing animosity to one another which anybody looking from the outside would see as normal. While there was a silence amongst them it wasn't an awkward one, but rather a sense of complacency. They may have been associates in Potter Club but there were only a handful of moments where they had interacted outside of that. It would be more suspicious if they were actively conversing.
That didn't stop Susan however. "So, I don't imagine you've picked up a broom since first year," said said casually.
"I will have you know that while I haven't flown on campus, I have spent time flying with my sister around the grounds of our manor," declared Daphne.
"Do you let her win?"
"Never."
"Figures."
"It is to push Astoria to do her best," defended Daphne. "If she simply thinks that everything is going to be handed to her on a silver plate then she won't strive to be the best that she can be."
"Makes sense," mused Susan. "I imagine the two of you must have quite the sibling rivalry."
While Daphne had wanted to counter immediately, she held her tongue knowing full well that her compatriot was not only an orphan but also a single child. Talking too much about siblings could very well act as something of a trigger. Thankfully, there was an adequate distraction available when they turned the nearest corner. "Merlin's beard, what's happening here?" asked Daphne in a very obvious tone. "What's everybody lining up for?"
Indeed, there was a line of teenage girls in single file waiting to move closer to the end of the line and whatever it was that lay at the end. Susan, while she could only see a handful of the students, was able to recognize those that were in her line of sight as fellow members of the Potter Fan Club. Given what had been discussed amongst their members only the other evening, she knew that it would have had something to do with asking Harry out to Hogsmeade.
"What's going on?" she asked when she got close to the line, Isabelle Lionheat hearing the third year student and turning to face.
"Hey Susan," she said with a polite wave before noticing the Slytherin that was accompanying the Hufflepuff. She looked somewhat confused to start with before simply choosing to ignore it. "Harry's set up a stall of some kind and it's up to those who want to take him to Hogsmeade to pitch why they would make the best date."
"Date!" exclaimed Susan in shock, Isabelle nodding in confirmation. "Oh that does it!"
Susan stormed her way to the back of the line, fully intent on ripping into Harry for holding such an event. If he had simply said yes when she had asked him to go out with her at the end of the last school year, none of this would have been an issue. The two of them could very well be boyfriend and girlfriend publicly if he had just said what she had wanted to hear. She knew that he had said no for her protection but in doing so he had humiliated her in front of the Great Hall and now he had all these girls queuing up to go on a date!
Susan's internal rant was somewhat shattered as someone stepped into line behind, having not expected Daphne to join suit. "Daphne...what are you doing?" asked Susan completely confused.
"Well, the way I see it, with all these girls launching themselves at Harry, it would be a rather good prank if somebody who didn't have any interest in him were to snatch away such a golden opportunity," said Daphne with a dry smile.
Susan opened her mouth to counter before shutting it shut. Daphne was right, it would be a good prank on the entire Potter Fan Club and while it may put her in the firing line down the track, over the weekend she would be the envy of dozens of students. "Well played Daphne," grumbled Susan. "But Saturday, Harry's going to Hogsmeade with me."
"We'll see Susan, we'll see."

Hope you enjoyed
