Chapter 6-The cabins
Travis's P.O.V
Travis looked at T-dog as he walked up to him. "The truck is fueled up," T-dog tells him.
"Good, we'll need another car," Travis says. "The truck won't fit all of us."
"I saw Merle and Daryl getting Merle's bike off the truck. I'm assuming Daryl will be driving that, we'll be fine," T-dog tells him. "So what do you think about this?"
"What do you mean?" Travis asks.
"We're trusting Merle on the location for our new home?" T-dog says. "He hasn't been the friendliest guy."
"No he hasn't," Travis says. "But if there is even a chance he is telling the truth, then we need to look into it. Being this close to the city is not safe."
"I know," T-dog says as Daryl walks over to them.
"We're ready," Daryl tells the two men who nod. "Amy's going ride on the back of Merle's bike."
"Alright, we'll load up," Travis tells Daryl who nods as he walks away.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane walks down the hill and looks at Merle who was already putting his stuff in a bag. "You're already packing. You think this place is safe?"
"I know it is," Merle says as he looks at him. "My baby brother is going to radio soon and tell us that we can move. So why the hell are you down here?"
"The last week and a half you have treated everybody in this camp like shit, ignored them or insulted them. So why help us now?" Shane asks.
"You don't trust me officer?" Merle asks with a smirk.
"No, I do not. I don't believe your motives for telling about this place are good either," Shane says.
"You're right, I don't give a damn about any of you, but my baby brother does, he at least cares about the younger blond and the Asian kid—"
"Korean," Shane says.
"I don't give a fuck. My point is that my baby brother cares and it's hard to make him care, that's why I told you, for him," Merle says and Shane nods. "But I do want to make something clear, that asshole, the fat one, the one who beats his wife, he's gonna cut that shit out, or I'm gonna kill him."
"It ain't our business," Shane says.
"The hell it ain't, you're supposed to be their leader officer, protect them, deal with it or I will," Merle tells him. Shane doesn't say anything as he turns around and walks away.
Carol's P.O.V
Carol sat down by the quarry cleaning clothes. "Carol," Shane says making Carol look at him. "You mind if we talk for a moment?"
"Sure," Carol says. Shane nods as he sits down beside her.
"New bruise?" Shane asks as he looks at the side of her face.
"It was an accident," Carol says.
"During my second year as a cop, my partner, Rick. Carl's Dad and I got a call. It was from a woman; she was one of the teachers at the high school. Her neighbors called us after she heard yelling, we got there, and she had a black eye, and her face was bruising. Rick and I both knew it was her husband, the guy was an asshole, but she wouldn't admit it, we tried everything, and we couldn't do anything. She told us she got hurt during self-defense class. We left, neither of us wanted us too, a week later, we were back in that house, her husband had beat her to death and almost killed her 9-year-old daughter before her neighbor's husband got inside and beat the shit out of him and kept him down till we got there. The girl had to go live in Atlanta with her aunt, her entire life uprooted because of some asshole. You don't deserve what you are going through and eventually, he will start hitting Sophia, we can protect you and her, all you have to do is ask and we'll do it. You're a good person, Carol and you deserve better," Shane tells her. "Just think about it," Shane says. He pats her shoulder and walks back up the hill.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl stops Merle's bike outside the small wall. He climbed off his bike and looked at Travis as he climbed out of the truck and walks up to Daryl. "Can we open the gate?" Travis asks Daryl who nods as he walks up to the gate. He pulls on the chain and looks at the padlock.
"You have a key?" Amy asks.
"Nah," Daryl says as he walks to the bike and pulls a hammer out of the bag on the side of the bike. "We're gonna need to get a new lock," Daryl says before he hits the padlock twice breaking it. He pulls the chain out. "We should probably just get a new damn gate, this ain't going to do shit," Daryl says as he pushes it open. "We'll leave the cars out here," Daryl tells Travis who nods as he walks towards the truck. Daryl grabs his crossbow off the bag and looks at Amy. "You ready?"
"Yeah," Amy says as Glenn, Travis and T-dog walk up to them.
"You take the lead, you know this place better than we do," Travis tells Daryl who nods as he walks past the gate. He looks at the cabins.
"We check each room, don't want any surprises," Daryl says as he pushes the door open to the first cabin. He walks inside.
"This place Is a mess," T-dog says as he looks at the bottles on the ground.
"It can be cleaned," Glenn says as Daryl pushes the door open to bed room. He looks at the celling where a walker was grabbing at them.
"Oh my god," Amy says as she covers her mouth.
"You know him?" Travis asks Daryl who nods.
"His brother, only met him once, must have came after his brother died," Daryl says before he raises his crossbow and shoots the walker in the face. "We'll bury him," Daryl says as he cuts the rope and the walker falls to the ground. "Let's keep clearing rooms."
They nod as they slowly leave the room.
Merle's P.O.V
Merle walked up the hill. He looked at the group as they sat around the R.V talking. He scoffs as he walks towards the path leading down to the quarry. He stops when he heard a thud and someone crying. He walks towards the tent and hears Ed. "You do what you are told next time," Ed says.
"I'm sorry," Carol says softly. Ed walks out of the tent and looks at Merle.
"What do you want?" Ed asks him.
"You just hit her?" Merle asks.
"Ain't none of your business you redneck piece of trash," Ed says and Merle smirks as he punches Ed in the face. Ed stumbles back as Merle grabs him by his shirt and punches him again. He throws Ed to the ground and starts to beat in his face.
"STOP!" Carol shouts as she comes out of the tent. Merle continues to beat on Ed as the others run up to him. T-dog and Shane grab Merle's arms.
"Merle! STOP!" Shane shout as Jim grabs Merle and the three men are able to get him off of Ed. Merle quickly stands as Shane lays his hand on his gun. Merle breathes heavily as Carol goes over to Ed.
"I told you, Walsh! You should have dealt with it," Merle says before he walks away with blood dripping from hands.
"Shane," Madison says. Shane turns around and looks at Ed.
"Let's get him in the tent," Shane says and they nod as Shane's radio goes off.
"It's safe, Shane. Have Merle bring you here," Travis says.
"We're going to be a little while," Shane says as he grabs his radio from his belt.
"What's going on?" Travis asks.
"I'll explain later," Shane says. "We'll be there as soon as we can," Shane says. "Lori, take Sophia away from here."
Lori nods as she leads the kids away. After about fifteen minutes Madison comes out of Ed's tent. "Well?"
"I don't know, he could have brain damage. You got to talk to Merle. He needs to lead us there."
"Have the others starting taking this place apart," Shane tells Madison who nods as he leaves.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane walks to the bottom of the quarry as Merle cleans the blood off his hands. "You might have caused Ed brain damage."
"Good, hopefully it kills him," Merle says as he stands. "He beats his wife and you all just sit there and do nothing. Bunch of pussies."
"It wasn't your place to get in the middle," Shane growls.
"Nah, it was yours," Merle says as he points his finger at Shane. "You act like the leader of these people. That means you're supposed to protect them, but you just sit by and let that fat jackass BEAT on his wife!" Merle shouts at him. "If he does it again, I'm going to kill him, and I mean that," Merle says firmly before he pushes past Shane and starts to walk back towards camp.
"Travis radioed, it's safe," Shane says and Merle doesn't say anything as he continues to walk.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl sat on the porch with a cigarette in his hands. "Where did you get that?" Amy asks as she walks up to him.
"He has a stash," Daryl says. "When he would go and get 'em, he buy a couple of packs so he wouldn't have to get more for a week," Daryl says as Amy holds her hand out. "I don't think your sister would approve."
"My sister wouldn't approve of a lot of things I did in college," Amy says as she takes the cigarette from Daryl. "So you lived in a place like this?"
"Worse," Daryl answers. "This is a hotel compared to where I lived. But it will be a good spot, we put the kids, Lori, Morales, Miranda, and Carol in these cabins. Maybe find a few more R.V's, just in case we are here until winter."
Amy nods as she hands him the cigarette. "Hey, Daryl," Travis says. "We found something in the second cabin."
Daryl stands up and crushes the cigarette. They follow him inside as Travis leads them to a room and into the closet. He knocks on the wall. "It's hallow," Amy says.
"T-dog," Daryl says as he looks at the man. "In the shed, there is a sledgehammer, grab it."
T-dog nods as he leaves and comes back a few minutes later with the sledgehammer. He hands it to Daryl who hits the wall. The dry walls falls to the ground as Daryl keeps hitting wall. He breathes heavily as he pulls the rest of the drywall out and looks at the door. "You said he was crazy, but a hidden room?" Amy asks as Daryl opens the door and turns the light on. One side of the room had drugs on it but the other was filled with food and medicine.
"Jesus," Travis says.
"I wondered how he made money, this is probably where Merle got his shit from to sell," Daryl says. "Let's get the drugs out and burn 'em. Don't need 'em here."
"Let's do it before they get here," Travis says and they nod.
Merle's P.O.V
Merle drives the truck into past the gate and parts in front of the cabin as the others come outside. "Home sweet home," Travis says as they start to exit their vehicles. "The sun will be setting soon, let's get tents set up quickly."
"We need to get Ed in a room," Shane says.
"Why?" Travis asks.
"Cause I beat the shit out of him," Merle says as he grabs his bags from the truck. "Come on, baby brother, let's go get set up."
Daryl nods as he follows Merle away from the group. Thet get on the edge of the woods and Merle sets his bags down. "Ed?" Daryl asks.
"Hit his wife. I would have killed him if they didn't pull me off, I should have killed him," Merle says. "Baby brother, we aren't staying here long, this people, they are going to get us killed, that blond bitch and Korean kid are going to get you killed."
"They ain't bad people, man."
"They let that asshole beat on his wife!" Merle growls. "Nah, we're going to get the stash in the second cabin and leave."
"It's gone," Daryl says. Merle looks at him.
"What the hell do you mean it's gone?" Merle asks.
"Travis found it, we burnt the drugs before you got here and put the food away."
"You damn idiot," Merle says as he grabs Daryl by his shirt and pushes him into the tree. "These people ain't our damn problem, stop helping them and that was my goddamn stash," Merle says before he pulls Daryl away from the tree and pushes him back. "Go find someone else to sleep with tonight, maybe you'll come back with some damn better sense," Merle says as he throws Daryl's sleeping bag at him. "Get out of my damn sight."
Daryl doesn't say anything as he grabs his crossbow and walks away.
Dale's P.O.V
Dale sat on top of the R.V with the moon in the sky. He looked at the ladder as Daryl climbed up the ladder. "Surprised you aren't sleeping,"
"Merle kicked me out of the tent," Daryl says and Dale nods. "Go to sleep, I'll take over."
"Thanks," Dale says as he stands. Daryl nods as he sits in the chair. "Amy and Andrea take the bed, I take the couch, you can bring your sleeping bag in, at least you'll be warm."
Daryl nods as Dale goes down the ladder.
