Chapter 7-The Lake

Andrea's P.O.V

Andrea climbed out of bed the next morning. She grabbed her gun and knife and started to walk out. She stopped when she saw Daryl laying on the floor. Andrea moves around the younger Dixon brother and walks outside the R.V. She walks over to Dale, Jim, and Glenn who were making breakfast. "Does the cabin not work?"

"It has a generator, no fuel. The water is connected to a river not far," Glenn tells her. "T-dog thinks if he can figure out why no water is coming, he could get us clean water and showers."

"Good," Andrea says as she looks at Dale. "Why is Daryl sleeping in the R.V?"

"Merle kicked him out of his tent last night, I offered him a place in the R.V," Dale tells him as Morales comes out of the cabin.

"There's fishing gear in here," Morales tells him as Amy walks out of the R.V and a minute later Daryl follows. "Was your friend a fisher?"

"He would catch his food before he bought it," Daryl says as he walks up to the others. "Thanks for the sleeping spot."

"Anytime," Dale says. "What do you know about the water system here?"

"He had it connected to the river, sometimes it would get clogged up or disconnected, he's got a water heater, you figure out the problem and we'll have hot water."

"I'll walk it with T-dog," Glenn says. "Figure out the problem."

"Alright," Dale says.

"Where did he fish?" Amy asks Daryl.

"There's a lake not far from here," Daryl says. "A couple houses on it, a couple of hunters lived up there, did not like people."

"You think they are still there?" Andrea asks.

"Might be," Daryl says. "I'll head out there, check it out,"

"By yourself?" Dale asks.

"No," Amy says. "Andrea and I can go with him, take your truck, if no one is there, we can do a little fishing, get some food," Amy says as she looks at her sister who glares at her.

"Good idea," Dale says as the rest of the group starts to come over to them. Everybody besides Merle.

"What are you guys talking about?" Shane asks.

"Working on ways to make this place better, Daryl, Amy, and Andrea are going head to the lake nearby, check the cabins and do some fishing, Glenn and T-dog are going to work on getting the water fixed, but we need to send a group into town, we need fuel, wood, and metal, we got to reinforce this place," Travis says as he looks at Daryl. "Any place like that?"

"There's a local business, built houses and shit like that, he kept his supplies in a small warehouse at the edge of town, I don't know what he had left there before the end of it," Daryl says. "I'll write down the directions."

"I'll take a group," Shane says.

"Jim, me, Alicia, Morales, and Chris, they need to start going on runs," Travis says and Shane nods. "We all know what we are doing. Let's get to work."

Daryl's P.O.V

Daryl walks down to the tent and looks at Merle as he cooked a rabbit. "You sleep well?"

"Yeah, Dale let me sleep in the R.V," Daryl says. "I need the truck keys."

"Where you going, baby brother?"

"The lake, gonna check the cabins, do some fishing."

"By yourself?" Merle asks as he looks at him.

"Nah, Andrea and Amy are going with me," Daryl says.

"Mmmm, those two are nice, which one you picking, cause I want the other one," Merle says with a grin.

"Give me the keys man," Daryl says.

"Alright, baby brother, don't get your panties in a twist," Merle says as he stands and pulls the keys out of his pocket. He throws the keys to Daryl.

"You keeping that tent to yourself?"

"Come back when you realize I'm right baby brother, these people don't give a damn about you," Merle says. "I think I'll stay right here and eat this rabbit."

Daryl doesn't say anything as he turns around and walks away from his brother.

Glenn's P.O.V

Glenn and T-dog walk through the woods. "You've done this kind of stuff before?" Glenn asks T-dog.

"Here and there," T-dog says. "What did you do before the turn, Glenn?"

"Delivered pizza's," Glenn answers and T-dog chuckles. "You think it will ever go back to the way things were?"

"No," T-dog says. "Even if they found a cure, there is no fixing what has happened to the people that have become walkers. The world that we knew, it's gone. Even if we somehow get rid of the walkers, the world will never be the same," T-dog says and Glenn nods as they see the river. "Alright, let's fine the problem," T-dog says as they start to walk the river. They continue to walk in silence for a few minutes before they see a walker with one leg. The walker was tangled up in the hose and had pulled it from the river. "Found our problem,"

Glenn nods as he removes his knife and walks up to the walker. He stabs it in the head. "Let's get this water fixed."

T-dog nods as the two men begin to work.

Amy's P.O.V

Amy sat in between Daryl and Andrea as Daryl stopped the truck in front of three cabins. "Weapons ready," Daryl says as he climbs out of the truck and grabs his crossbow. Amy and Andrea climb out. Amy grabs her rifle as Andrea removes her pistol.

"What do you know about the people who lived here?" Andrea asks.

"Not much," Daryl says. "One of them shot a guy who came on his property. Didn't get any time."

Andrea nods as they walk up to the first cabin. They push the door open and slowly start to move through the cabin finding it empty. "They left in a hurry," Amy says as she looks around. "We should check the other two cabins."

The two of them nod as they leave the cabin. They search the other two cabins and find nothing in them. The three of them walk out of the last cabin. "They cleaned these places out," Andrea says.

"Let's do some fishing then," Amy says. The two nod as they walk towards the truck.

Shane's P.O.V

Shane stopped the van in front of the warehouse. He climbs out and looks at the others. He turns around and looks at two walkers as they come towards them. "Alicia and Chris, take these," Travis says. "We'll be right behind you, bring your knives into their heads," Travis tells the two teens who nod as they remove their weapons. Alicia moves forwards first. She jabs her knife forward into the walkers eye as Chris slams his down on the top of the second walkers head. The walkers fall to the ground. "Good job," Shane says. "Let's get inside," They nod as they walk to the warehouse. Shane pushes the door open and shines his flashlight inside. They slowly walk inside the building. Shane walks to the office and pushes the door open. He enters the office and sees two sleeping bags on the ground.

"We aren't alone," Jim says as he looks around.

"If anybody is here, come out, we won't hurt you," Shane says. They don't hear anybody. "Let's check the back."

They nod as they walk towards the back. Travis pushes the door open and they enter the back of the warehouse. There were a couple of shelves a wood and two of metal. Shane moves around the corner and aims his gun, Two people turned towards him. One of them a man with a shotgun, and the other one a girl with a machete. "Woah," Shane says. "No one needs to get hurt."

"We don't want any trouble," The man says.

"Neither do we. We just need the supplies here," Shane says. "We have a place, more people we can take you there."

"You don't know us."

"I didn't know these people either, I trust them," Shane says as he lowers his shotgun. "I'm Shane, this is Travis, Alicia, Chris, Morales and Jim."

The man lowers his shotgun and looks at the girl. "I'm David, this is my daughter, Mandy," David says.

"Alright, David. Why don't you help us get some of this wood and metal loaded up and we'll take you to our camp."

"Alright," David says and Shane nods.

Andrea's P.O.V

Andrea, Daryl, and Amy sat in the canoe. "So did you learn this by yourself too?" Amy asks Daryl.

"Most of it, yeah. My Uncle Jess took me a couple of times, he was less of an asshole."

"Our Dad taught us," Andrea says.

"Where is he at?" Daryl asks.

"We don't know, he was with our Mom. We don't know what happened to him."

Daryl stays silent for a moment before he looks at Amy. "Was his name, Terry?" Daryl asks. Amy and Andrea both look at him.

"How do you know that?" Andrea asks.

"I met him," Daryl says. "When I was going to Atlanta with Merle. I met your father, he was in a house, with your Mom. He asked me to get some medicine for her, when I came back…he had shot her in the head, she turned."

Amy covers her mouth as Andrea takes her other hand and tears start to go down her face. "Our Dad?"

"I don't know," Daryl answers. "We got on choppers and the last I heard was the pilot was bitten, I didn't hear anything else after that?"

Amy wipes the tears from her eyes. "Could…could he be alive?"

"Yeah, he could be," Daryl says softly. "He was looking for the two of you. That is all that mattered to him."

The two girls nod. "We're breaking his rule, no crying in the boat." Amy says making Andrea smile. "He could still be alive."

"He could be," Andrea says as she nods. "If he's alive we'll find him."

Amy nods as she held her sister hand.

Two hours later

Daryl put the canoe in the back of the truck and looks at Andrea as she sets the fishing gear in the boat. "I'll do what I can to help you find him."

"Thank you," Andrea says. "Thank you for trying to help my Mom too," Andrea says and Daryl nods as he walks towards the driver side door.

Shane's P.O.V

The group all sat around a small fire that night eating. Carol stood up and walked towards the tent as Madison walked towards them. Shane looks at Madison as she walks over to them. "How is he?"

"He'll live," Madison says as she sits down. "What now?"

"We'll start reinforcing this place, make it safe," Shane says as he looks at Mandy and David. "We'll get you a tent, for tonight you can sleep in the cabin."

"Thank you," David says and Shane nods. "Get some sleep tonight fol—" Shane was cut off by a gunshot. The entire group stood up and ran towards the sound of the gunshot. Merle gets there first. Inside the tent, Ed laid on his back with a bullet in his head and Carol stood in front of him, the gun in her hand shaking.

"Carol," Shane says.

"I didn't-I didn't-"

"It's okay," Shane says as he lays his hand on Carol's arm. He grabs the gun from her as Lori leads the kids away.

"He came-He came at me—and I panicked."

"It's alright," Shane says as he leads Carol out of the tent. "Come on."

The group slowly started to move away from the tent. Daryl and Merle being the last two standing there. "Good riddance I say," Merle says as he walks up to the tent and spits on Ed's body. "Who knows, maybe I was wrong about some of 'em."

"Terry was Amy and Andrea's father," Daryl tells him.

"You tell them he died?"

"We don't know that he is dead," Daryl says. "Night."

Merle watches him as he walks away. He looks at Ed. "Enjoy hell you piece of shit," Merle says before he walks away.

Thanks for reading. Next chapter will start with the group discussing what happened with Ed as Carol deals with killing her husband. As always suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
