Chapter 10-Returning to camp
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl and Glenn enter the apartment building. "What are we doing here?" Glenn asks.
"We need something that is going make some noise," Daryl says. "Get the walkers away from the clinic so we can get in," Daryl tells him as he grabs the handle of the door and pushes it open. He enters the apartment with his crossbow raised. "Look for alarm clocks, kitchen times, alcohol," Daryl says.
"Alcohol?" Glenn asks.
"Make a Molotov, throw it on a car," Daryl replies and Glenn nods as they begin to look around the apartment.
Merle's P.O.V
Merle stared at the top of the tent as he heard footsteps. He looked up at Dale as he walked up to the tent. "What do you want?" Merle asks.
"Amy is getting you food, asked me to bring you some water," Dale says as he holds the bottle out to Merle who takes it. Merle nods as he lays his head back. "What is your plan, Merle?"
"My plan?" Merle asks as he once again looks at the older man.
"Yes, your plan. After you have healed, you could keep going as you are until something else happens and you are hurt again or even killed."
"If I'm going to die, I'm gonna die, nothing's gonna change that," Merle says. "Most of you people look at me like I'm the devil, thing is, there are worse people out there and now there is nobody to stop those people. Those are the people you should be worrying about," Merle says. "I ain't looking to make friends, only reason I am still here is because of my brother,"
"Maybe you should follow your brother's lead," Dale says as Amy walks up to them.
"You two behaving?" Amy asks.
"Well, of course," Dale says. "Have a good day," Dale says before he walks away.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane walked up T-dog as he filled up a bucket of water. "You hear to talk me into kicking the Dixon's out?" T-dog asks without looking at him.
"I figured you'd be all for it, you see the way Merle looks at you, can't imagine what he wants to do to you," Shane says calmly.
"I lived in Atlanta before the fall Shane, I've seen worse," T-dog says as he turns to look at the other man. "I don't like Merle. I like, Daryl though and I think underneath all of Merle's bullshit, there's a real person, a good person, Amy and Glenn brought out the good in Daryl, we just need to find the person that will do that for Merle so I am not going to help you throw them out on their asses," T-dog says. "Amy did have a good point yesterday though."
"What was that?"
"We need to decide who is going to lead us," T-dog says before he picks up the water bucket and walks past Shane.
Amy's P.O.V
Amy sat outside of the tent as Merle slept. T-dog had brought her a small table and a chair. She set her rifle on the table. "It's a nice weapon," Amy looks up at Chris as he walks up to her.
"Thanks," Amy says. "Daryl showed me how to take it apart, since Merle is resting, I'm going to clean it," Amy says as she sets a rag on the table. She looks back up at Chris as he watches the older Dixon brother. "Do you need something, Chris?" Amy asks the younger man.
"I've never seen my Dad like that," Chris says. "So filled with rage."
"Anger is a powerful emotion," Amy says softly. "I'm not defending what Travis or Merle did, but your Dad was trying to protect Nick," Amy tells Chris who nods.
"Can you show me how to take mine apart?" Chris asks Amy who nods.
"Grab a chair."
Glenn's P.O.V
Glenn and Daryl walked to the front door of the apartment building and looked around. "How far are we from the clinic?" Daryl asks him.
"A block," Glenn says. "We can get pretty close going through the alley but we'll have to get across the street," Glenn tells Daryl who nods.
"Lead the way," Daryl tells Glenn who nods as he leads Daryl out of the apartment building and into the alley. They slowly move through the alley until they see the clinic. Daryl pulls his bag off his back and grabs out a kitchen time. "I throw this and once the walkers start to move towards it, we run like hell," Daryl tells Glenn who nods. Daryl turns the handle to thirty seconds and throws it. The two wait in silence until the timer goes off. The walkers move towards the timer and Daryl grabs his bag and the two men run across the street and enter the clinic unnoticed. Daryl grabs his flashlight out of his bag and shines it around the building. "Have you ever been here?"
"Once," Glenn says. "Two years ago. We should try and get out of here are quickly as possible."
"Agreed," Daryl says as they start to look through the building.
"Can I ask you something?" Glenn asks Daryl who looks at him and nods. "I know he's your brother but Merle is an asshole. You could have started your life before the end, why did you follow him?"
Daryl stays silent for a moment. "Because Merle was all I had, I didn't have friends, money or anything else, he's my brother and he is an asshole, but family sticks together," Daryl says as he opens the door to a closet and shines his flashlight inside. The two men walk inside and start to grab the medicine as Daryl opens a cabinet and pulls out some crutches. "How the hell are we going to carry these?" Daryl asks him.
"I got that covered," Glenn says as he pulls his bag off his back and pulls out some rope. "Tie 'em to your bag," Glenn tells Daryl who nods as he grabs the rope and begins to tie the crutches onto his bag. He puts the bag back on as the crutches dangle.
"Let's get going," Daryl says to Glenn who nods as they leave the room.
Andrea's P.O.V
Andrea looked at the entrance to the R.V as Shane walked in. "Hey," Andrea says.
"Amy still down with Merle?" Shane asks Andrea who nods. "You're okay with that? I mean are you okay with any of this Andrea, you were a laywer, you saw people like Daryl and Merle in the courthouse and Amy and Daryl have gotten pretty close, I mean they sneak off to hunt and hang out."
"What are you talking about?" Andrea asks.
"You haven't noticed, Daryl's been teaching Amy how to hunt and fight. I mean they are close and those two just bring problems with them, Andrea they are going to hurt us, you guys think I'm being an asshole when it comes to the Dixons but I am trying to help us, those two may be brining us food but they are divining us, I mean Glenn said he would leave if we kicked them out, there seems to be two sides to this camp, that will get people hurt and the root of our problems are those two brothers," Shane says before he leaves the R.V leaving Andrea watching where he stood.
Amy's P.O.V
Amy looked at Andrea as she walked down to Merle's tent. "Can I talk to you for a minute?" Andrea asks her sister who nods as she stands up and follows her away from the tent. "You've been sneaking off with Daryl?"
Amy stares at her for a second before she chuckles. "Shane," She says. "He's been teaching me how to hunt, shoot and fight," Amy tells her. "We aren't having sex in the woods."
"I don't get it Amy? Why the Dixons brother?"
"Because they are good people, even Merle when he wants to be, Daryl helped Dad and you are once again treating him like crap just because of something Shane says."
"I want you to be safe," Andrea says.
"I am safe, Daryl teaching me how to survive will keep me safe, I don't need your permission to do what I want so unless you have something good to tell me, go away," Amy says as she walks back towards the tent. She climbs in and looks at Merle who was watching her with a smirk.
"I see why my brother likes you."
"Shut up."
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl drives the truck into camp and stops it. "We'll go back in a couple of days, do a proper search," Daryl tells Glenn who nods.
"You aren't alone anymore, you or Merle," Glenn tells Daryl who nods.
"Thanks," He says as he climbs out of the truck and walks down the hill.
"Welcome back," Amy says from where she sat.
"Did you get them?" Merle asks Daryl who nods as he pulls his bag off. "Good now I can use them to beat Shane," Daryl looks at his brother and then at Amy.
"Shane's been trying to convince people to kick you and Merle out of camp, hell he even used my sister to try and turn me against you," Amy tells Daryl who turns around. "Shit," She says as she stands and follows Daryl up the hill.
Shane looks at them as they walk towards the fire. "If you want us gone, why don't you stay it to my goddamn face," Daryl growls at him as Shane stands.
"I want you gone," Shane growls back.
"What about the rest of you!" Daryl growls as he looks around. "You want us gone, say the damn word and I will leave," Daryl says as he looks at the rest of the group who stays silent. "Got nothing to say? You'll say anything you want when we are not around but now that I'm comforting you, you got nothing to say?"
"Daryl," Amy says softly as she lays her hand on his shoulder making him look at her.
"I ain't claiming that we are saints, we ain't, but what happened ain't just Merle's fault. So stop acting like it is," Daryl says.
"You guys eat?" T-dog asks as he stands up and Daryl shakes his head. T-dog puts the stew in two bowls and holds it out to Daryl. "You and Merle aren't going anywhere, regardless of what Shane wants."
Daryl nods as he turns and walks away.
Amy stays for a moment before she follows.
T-dog's P.O.V
T-dog sits back down and looks at Shane who was glaring at him. "They caught the meat for it."
"We need to decide who is going to lead this camp," Dale says.
"Agreed," T-dog says. "But it shouldn't just be one person."
"Who do you suggest?" Carol asks him and T-dog looks at Glenn.
"Why are you looking at me?" Glenn asks. "Hell no."
"You collect the supplies for the camp and are one of the two people who are on good terms with Daryl and Merle, you, Travis, Dale, and Shane, that is who should lead the camp," T-dog says.
"I agree," Carol says.
"Why four people?" Nick asks him.
"Because one person shouldn't be making all the decisions, today has proved that. When it comes to decisions like kicking out Daryl and Merle, it should be decided by a vote. Not by Shane because he's pissed."
"Why don't you lead, T. You seem to have all the answers," Shane growls.
"He's right," Travis says making Shane look at him. "Having multiple leaders is a good idea and as for Daryl and Merle, we are dropping that, they are not leaving," Travis says. "What happened yesterday is done, it's in the past," Travis says as he looks at Nick. "Do you want them gone."
"No," Nick says softly and Travis nods.
"Does anybody have a problem with this?" T-dog asks the group who stays sulent. "Then it's decided, Glenn, Travis, Shane, and Dale will lead us."
Thanks for reading. We will soon be getting to Rick Grimes, I think maybe two or three more chapters but I don't know yet, As always suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
