The new girl made her way back over to us slowly, her wrists hooked over the hockey stick she rested on her shoulders behind her neck. The odd looking blade was housed safely in it's holster. Shoko was cheering and applauding the new girl who stopped mid stride, and bowed deeply and elegantly as if she had just finished performing in a stage play. I think Shoko was happy we had other girls at the school now.
'That's an interesting weapon.' Suguru said to Jane. 'What can you tell us about it?'
'That's a Cinquedea, a sort of short sword, dagger hybrid from Italy. It's not a cursed tool, but it is a family heirloom of Gigi's.'
'She's Italian?' That's cool.' Shoko piped up, she lit another cigarette off the last one she was smoking.
'Not quite.' Said Jane. 'Her mother was Italian.'
Suguro, Shoko and Jane all glanced over to me as if I should say something. I had nothing to say, but I did anyway.
'Well I applaud her for not getting killed.' I grinned. Suguru and Shoko just smirked and shook their heads. Jane however looked quite taken aback as if she didn't know how to take my comment.
The veil had eventually come down. Giulietta stood in front of us all, with dirt and blood splatters on her face and scuffed knees. She looked radiant, almost as if she was coming down from a high; breathing deeply in some vain attempt to cool down her flushed skin. This was someone who loved the chase, loved the fight and the thrill of it. I had to admit, this look on her with her athletic body was… it was kinda hot right now. That look didn't last for long though, it changed in an instant from this look of post-fight ecstasy, to Gig pouting as she brushed the dirt and dust from her clothes.
'I'm so tired.' Said Gigi as she rubbed her eyes with the back of her hand. Jane handed her blazer back.
'We've had a long journey over here, I think we both need to rest. You especially after that.' Jane spoke in English. I caught most of it. Sounds like they were both pretty jet lagged and the new girl, had just thrown herself in to a relatively short fight with a grade two curse so she must have felt extra exhausted. The ride back to the school wasn't long though. Jane joined in the conversation Suguru, Shoko and I were having, while the new girl looked vacant and stared out of the window; watching the scenery go by. She looked so... so lonely.
We parted ways in the city. Shoko was heading out with some other friends and the rest of us went back to the school. Suguru and I would probably head back in to the city later for dinner or something. Jane and the new girl bid us a good evening and made their way back to the dorms. Jane put her arm around Gigi and she did the same in return.
'You did good kiddo.'
'Thanks Janey.'
'C'mon, lets make some dinner and chill out.'
'So, Satoru. I assume you have something to say about the new girl?' Suguru's deep, smooth voice filled my ears.
'Hmm, she's a little bit interesting. I'll give her that.'
'Your six eyes didn't get anything am I correct?'
'Nope. Not even when her energy was activated. I don't even know how it works, but I think her technique may be similar to my technique.'
'As for grade?'
'Going by what her technique does and her skill level alone… um…'
'I would say she's at least a grade one, maybe a special grade one. But…' Suguru trailed off. I knew what he was going to say.
'We'd need see to the rest of her abilities and how she handles it.'
'This should be interesting indeed.'
Suguru was smiling at me. He was smiling in that way that I knew so well, he could practically read my mind. He was my best friend after all.
'I can already sense the pranks and teasing you're planning on doing to that poor unsuspecting girl. You're so juvenile at times Satoru.' Suguru had that slightly patronising tone in his voice he reserved for when he was mocking me. It never worked on me though. I just laughed at him.
'Ha ha I just can't help myself! Anyway, where we going any ideas?'
'Hmm I'm thinking gyudon or oyakodon,'
'Oh and there's a new bakery that just opened near the station we can go there too!'
'Fine, lets go and top up your burgeoning diabetes.'
