Mike thankfully has gotten the week off, enjoying the break from R-Truth. Much as he enjoys being tag champion, it really isn't easy having to keep an eye on Truth. Even now, he finds himself worrying that the man could be on Raw, doing something that risks sabotaging their title reign, but he shakes those thoughts away, focusing once more on the story he's reading to George.
He's just noticed that George has dozed off between one page and the next, and he gently eases the little boy back down onto his bed before pulling away and putting the book down quietly. He leaves the bedroom and peeks across the hall into Sara's bedroom, smiling at her as she sleeps peacefully. He pulls her door shut and heads down the hall to look for his wife when he spots her standing in front of the living room TV, a horrified look on her face. He blinks and moves to join her, a frown on his face. "AJ? What's wrong?"
She glances from him to the TV. "I think... Uncle Howdy has invaded Raw, and they killed a bunch of people?"
"What?" Mike takes the remote from her and rewinds the TV until he sees the footage she means. "Oh shit," he breathes, staring at Chad Gable's lifeless form. "What the hell is happening?"
AJ leans into him, curling her fingers in his. "If you hadn't had today off," she says, voice shaking. "Mike..."
He wraps an arm around her, hugging her close. "It's ok," he mumbles. "I'm safe. It's fine."
She curls into him and kisses his jaw, clinging to him desperately. "It was close, though..."
He hums, rubbing her back. "I survived zombies, I would've survived this, don't worry."
She huffs. "This whole time you've been stressed over R-Truth and none of us realized there was actual murder coming."
Mike immediately turns the TV off and gets his arms around her, hoisting her up. She gasps and wraps her arms around his neck, watching as he turns and walks towards their bedroom. "Time to get some sleep," he says, teasingly bouncing her up and down in his arms as he pushes their door open with his foot and drops her on the bed, settling down next to him. "Here." He draws her close and kisses her deeply. "I'm fine, I'm safe, and I'll continue to be that way."
She sighs, tangling her fingers in his hair, pulling him closer. "You'd better be," she mumbles before drowning both of their voices away in a hungry, deep kiss.
