"Now I take a left turn here for the science labs..." Shishiki narrows her eyes as she walks on, glaring in confusion at the map that was handed to her when she first arrived. "Why are there so many floors and rooms!?" She groans as she once more takes a wrong turn.
Her plan for the day was to get up bright and early, get a delicious breakfast and do a little exploration. If she got a grasp on where her classes were, and the main areas and memorized them, she figured she'd be golden.
If she were lucky, maybe she'd even be able to get some last minute supplies that she couldn't get before arriving. But did that happen? Did things go perfectly according to plan? Of fricking course not!
Dark clouds start swirling around her head as she bitterly reminds herself why she was so annoyed and pissy in the first place. Her stupid, rude, insufferable excuse Roommate. She was on the phone for ages last night.
Her loud, screechy voice made it impossible for Shishiki to get any sort of decent rest, and she had even kept her headphones on full blast of one of her favorite songs. So as it would turn out, all of Shishiki's plans got thrown out the window the moment she got up that morning.
Two hours later then she wanted, she woke up grumpy, scowling at the snoring pain in the neck from across the room. Breakfast wasn't stellar either...granted she was lucky that there Was food in the school's cafeteria, but it was mediocre meals and to an extent scraps.
Because she didn't get up early, she couldn't get dibs on the really good prepped dishes. And now? Despite having a map that was so colorfully marked that the student expected this to have been done by a five year old in her hands...she was struggling to no end finding her classes. It was infuriating!
"How are we supposed to get to each room in five minutes!? It's impossible!" Shishiki was so distracted and overwhelmed she didn't even pay attention to the direction she was heading towards. Quite literally smacking into someone.
Both individuals fall on their butts, stunned into an awkward silence, with Shishiki being the first to recover. "Sorry!" Immediately she stands up, reaching her hand forward. "You ok?" The guy? Girl? Shook their head in a daze.
Taking a moment before grabbing the held out hand. "Yeah sorry about that, I wasn't paying attention." She frowned, feeling bad. "It was my bad, been trying to map out the school." Her reply comes with a small smile.
"Yeah, this place is huge, and confusing. And the map sucks." The two share a chuckle, glad the awkwardness was lighting up a bit. "I know right? Anyways, my name is Shishiki." Before her new acquaintance could state their name, their phone goes off.
Making them pale. "Shit! I'm late for my appointment with my councilor. Gotta go! Bye." As fast as they came they went, creating a dust cloud that ensued a coughing fit and tears to fall. "Alrighty then..."
That was weird, but compared to rest of the things that she's had to undergo the last couple days, she'll take it. At least the person she bumped into was nice. "Now I gotta head towards the...what is this?" Once more her face scrunches up as she tries reading the map.
Tilting her head slightly she hoped it'd make a little more sense, but of course it didn't. "Oak's building has the science classes, I'm at least in the right area." Why were these buildings huge? Why was the map absolute crap?
"This suckkkksss!" She was so glad she still had time(about a week now that she thought about it) till her classes start, because there was no way she was going to understand heads or tails of this place within a couple hours.
She groaned as she continued onwards, ignoring the looks from her bypassing classmates. Sure they were giving her weird expressions but wait till they actually tried going to class. Or if they were continuing from the previous semester then they should know her struggles.
It can't just be her that is finding this to be a royal pain. "Bee~" Labunni poked her little head out from her bag, nuzzling her ears against Shishiki's arm. "Thanks girl." Her reward came with a little pet. "Hey you!"
Blinking she turns her head around, not finding the person who called out. "Aha! I got you now~ Prepare to battle!" Before she could even get a word in, she was hit with a blast of smoke. Once more she suffers another coughing fit, unable to see.
"Our eyes have met-so rules state we battle!" With squinted eyes she shakes her head. "What are you even talking about? I can't even see a centimeter in front of me-let alone you." Why throw smoke bombs anyways?
Who does that? "Oh...wait a second. Pidgeoto use gust to blow away the smoke!" She was in no mood for this! The moment she was able to get clear vision of the exit she moved. "He-hey! Come back. I wanna battle you!" Completely ignoring the weird kid, Shishiki flees.
If this was how it was going to be for attending school...she could only imagining what would've happened had she'd done the usual go out and explore the world when she was ten route. No doubt it probably would've been a disaster.
"Screw everything. I'm in no mood to deal with this today." Hours went by with her accomplishing very little, and it left a sour taste in her mouth. Needing a change of pace she heads towards the one place she actually knew. The school store.
Unlike the class buildings, it was easy to find. She had actually passed by it like ten times today alone, making it a relief when she enters. "Welcome! How can I help you today?" There was no one except the cute looking employee smiling at her, already lifting her mood.
At the very least she could get the rest of her school books and necessities. Going through her bag, she pulls out a somewhat crumpled piece of paper. No doubt Labunni's doing. "I was wondering if you could help me find some of these?"
The kind clerk quickly scans through the list, eyes lighting up. "We actually have all of these in stock. Give me a second to get them for you." She thanked whatever legendary took pity on her.
"You're in luck~ Usually students like yourself buy out the whole store within the first couple days. But for whatever reason I haven't had too many customers. I guess everyone decided to work on unpacking their belongings." Shishiki had a feeling that was the case.
Since there was an entire dormitory shut off due to a joltik infestation. Her dormitory. "Well lucky me. I was actually trying to find my classes, but the map isn't translating well." A snort escapes the worker who was currently fluttering through the aisles.
Transferring all the goods into a basket as he pops his head out. "I swear that map is an abomination. If I had a pokecoin for every student complaining or struggling with reading the damn thing I wouldn't be working. Tell me, do you have a pokedex?"
With furrowed brows she shook her head. "No. Do I need one for school?" Humming softly the worker-Jordan, his name tag read, dived right back through the aisles. Rummaging through the back. It's a few moments of silence before a small shout of triumph burst through.
He pops back in with a grin. "Here we go." Shishiki blinked at the full basket, like he promised, there was everything on her list. On top of the pokedex and a small little green chip. He smiles at her curious expression. Able to easily see her unspoken question.
"Most people already have pokedex's so I usually charge for the chip, but since you don't have one, I figured i'd throw them both in for you. The pokedex when that chip is installed acts like a virtual map and gps. Way better and easier to navigate through the island."
Her prayers were answered! The first thing she would do the moment she returned to her room was install the chip and set up her dex. The second thing was going to be sending that obnoxious paper map into the shredder...right where it belonged!
"Thank you so, so much!" She didn't even realize that pokedexes could even have such upgrades. Her parents had ones from when they were younger, but they were old. Simply acting as a tutorial guide for trainers and encyclopedia for pokemon found in the wild.
She didn't think they were really important, plus the school papers didn't specify them as a required item for classes, if she had known she would've bought one ages ago. One by one her items are scanned. "No need to thank me. I'm just glad I was able to find the things you were looking for."
The total price was high, a bit over budget, but considering the additional items it was no surprise. Still Jordan sent a sympathetic look her way. "If you don't have enough, we can set up a payment plan?" Immediately Shishiki shakes her head, pulling out her wallet.
"It's all good." Together the pair bag up her items. "Don't be a stranger alright? I'm always working the afternoons. Have a good day~" Laughing she gives him a wave. "Will do, thanks again~" Sighing she heads out the door.
Feeling much better despite the emptiness in her wallet. "How bout we put our things away and grab some lunch Labunni?" Her little rabbit companion squeaks, at last hopping from her cozy little nest to hop onto her owner's shoulder. "Maybe a battle or two, since I'll be low on cash too. Hmm."
It was a bit of a walk back to the Cascade dorms, especially with the bags in her arms but it was doable. However her problem came when she gently put her things on to floor so she could open to door. Only to find the door knob unable to fully twist.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me." Locked. Growling lowly to herself Shishiki smacked her knuckles on the hard wood. "Hey! If you're in there, let me in!" She waited patiently a minute, then two, before sighing in exasperation.
Either her precious(annoying-stupid-bitchy)roomie was ignoring her, or was out. In either case she was stuck. No way into her room. And no key to get in. She should've gotten one. But the school wouldn't dish them out, stating that every student got two keys for their rooms and that was it.
Shishiki had keys, but they were for her dorms back in the Rainbow building. This wasn't her dorm, not her permanent one anyways. So the bimbo had them, refusing to give her the extra. "Stay calm. You'll get in trouble for busting the door down. Think."
Going down to her knees, the freshman started rummaging through her bags. Her pokepartner doing the same, seeing if any of her new purchases could be used to pick the lock. "Well hello there beautiful." A deep, seductive voice rang as a shadow loomed behind her. "Huh?"
Twisting her head she found a tall brunette giving her an amused grin as his eyebrows scrunched in confusion. Taking in the scattered bags, random items from said bags littering the floor and her slightly curled form searching.
"What's a pretty little thing like you doing on the floor?" A small blush forms on her face. Well...this wasn't embarrassing. At all.
To be continued
Author Notes: Phew. I got this done, this was a bit of a toughy since I wasn't sure what to do, but i'm glad with how it turned out. We also got to introduce our friend Jin, who we decided to bring into the story~ So that's nice.
Next chapter is going to be a doozy as Shishiki now has a new character to interact with...as well as trying to figure out how to get into her temporary locked dorm room. If she's lucky she may even get some revenge for all the crap her roomie has put her through.
But, for now that is it. Ladies and gentlemen thank you so much for reading my story. If you're liking the series so far, please feel free to fav/follow/review as it means a crap ton to me and my friends seeing the support. Tchao for now.
