April gets into an altercation with a mom at Harriet's school.
"Her daughter is being...such a...such a...brat!"
Jackson remained calm, trying his best to be the voice of reason and talk his wife down from a potential spiral, "I know, but Harriet seems fine. The teachers are handling it, right? So maybe its best that we-"
"No, look, there she is!" April explained, cutting her husband off and pointing the blonde woman out as she made her way past the school gates, "I'm gonna go talk to her before the kids come out. Give her a piece of my mind."
"April, I don't think thats a good idea-"
Before he had much of a chance to protest and tell her why he felt that was the case, April had already gotten out of the passenger side of the vehicle, practically stomping her way through the gates and after the woman in question.
Jackson leant his head back against the head rest, sighing to himself for a moment and hoping that this wouldn't go as badly as he thought it would. He knew how his wife could be when she was riled up - he'd been on the receiving end of her anger a number of times, and had even gotten punched by a guy for her before after she'd practically lunged at that guy in San Francisco (although he couldn't say that he was mad about it hindsight, given that had also ended up being the first time they slept together). She was a person that liked to feel her emotions at one extreme or the other, and most of the time, he loved that about her. He appreciated her ability to wear her heart on her sleeve, and just how passionate she was about everything she threw herself into. At times like this, though, it definitely felt like a potential liability.
"Hey! Could you please tell your daughter to be nicer to Harriet, or to just...I don't know...leave her alone if she doesn't want to be friends with her? I would really appreciate it, thank you." She did her best to talk to the mom in her nicest customer service voice (a skill that she'd perfected over the years from being a doctor). The last thing she needed was to let her have it right away, she thought.
The woman frowned in response, clearly not wanting to bother with April or this conversation, "Or maybe we could just let the girls sort things out themselves? Don't really want to teach her to get her mom to fight her battles for her, do you?"
Okay, maybe being nice was off the table.
"They're five!" April exclaimed, "Of course I want her to come to me if she's dealing with something at school!"
"Uh huh. Well good luck with that."
"Look, just talk to your daughter, okay?" She paused, feeling her hand bundle into a fist as the anger in her body took over, "Or...or...you'll have to deal with me!"
The blonde woman snorted in response, clearly unthreatened by the tiny redhead, "Yeah? And what are you going to do? Tell Jesus that I hurt your feelings? Oh no."
Oh, it was on.
April lunged at the woman like some sort of feral street cat, causing Jackson to scurry out of the car before she could cause any actual damage to the mom's face. The last thing he needed was to have to offer to fix the woman's nose if his wife's fists had a chance to get involved.
He picked her up as if she weighed next to nothing, but that didn't stop April from yelling, "No, but you know what I would tell Jesus? That you're kind of being a sucky parent!"
"Alright, back to the car," Jackson stated abruptly, carrying her towards it with ease and opening the car door to get her into the passenger seat.
His wife reluctantly sat down, arms crossed and a pouty frown on her face. It was very reminiscent of Harriet whenever she was being told off for something, and he couldn't help but find it highly amusing, "See, this is why I told you not to do anything."
"Well...!" April huffed, "If you'd given me another minute, I could've slapped her."
Jackson smirked, "I know, but babe, you've really gotta work on your trash talk. We've talked about this."
She glared at him for a moment, before letting out a chuckle at his facial expression. He always seemed to know how to calm her back down when her emotions were running high.
"Look, I'll go get Hattie. You wait here, and please try not to slap anyone whilst I'm gone, alright?"
"Fineee. I'll be good, see, I'm totally calm now. Go, get our bug."
