Based on the prompt 'Instead of fake dating, no is convinced that you're actually dating', but instead its 'no one is convinced that you're actually sleeping together'. Set during early s9.
When April enters the canteen, she can almost feel people gossiping about her. There's a distinct shift in the atmosphere when some of her co-workers spot her, and it makes her feel a little bit uneasy. Do they know about what her and Jackson did? Can they sense that she's a changed woman now? Part of her hopes not, because she doesn't even know how she feels about the whole situation yet herself. The last thing she wants is for everyone else to be weighing in on what she should do or how she should feel.
She takes a seat anyway, with Meredith, Alex and Cristina on FaceTime, and they immediately snicker at her presence, causing her to frown.
"Hey Mer, turn the phone around a second," Cristina asks from the cell phone screen, speaking directly to the redhead once it gets flipped around, "Hey Kepner, heard Jackson allegedly deflowered you. Nice. Was it on a beach, at sunset?"
"What do you mean, allegedly?" April frowns. Did they think this was some sort of plan she'd conjured up to make them stop bullying her?
"I think these two are just having a time believing it, thats all," Meredith responds, trying to be the polite one. She'd seen them bickering in the OR and had been the one to figure out that something was off between them, but even she found it hard to believe. Not quite as hard to believe as Cristina and Alex seemed to, though.
"Why?"
Alex butts in, chuckling to himself, "Look, I know you guys are weirdly joined at the hip or whatever, but Avery? He's got game. You mean to tell me the dude who lost his virginity in a threesome is gonna sleep with the Virgin Mary? Give me a break."
"Not that its any of your business given I didn't even want people to know, but it did happen."
Cristina scoffs through the phone, "Uh huh. I'll consider believing it if I see him jump you in public. Until then, I'm not buying it."
"Ugh, don't get giving them any ideas, Yang. Nobody wants to see that."
Meredith remains silent, obviously not wanting to get too involved but also finding the whole ordeal rather amusing, causing April to frown. Its the sight of Jackson that manages to dissipate some of the anger she feels coursing through her veins. When he places his tray down at their table, she practically goes off on one of her infamous rambles, grateful to finally have some back up here.
"See, look, Jackson's here now. He'll tell you that I'm not lying, or that I didn't get him to lie for me. Why would I?! I'm great! He's not the only catch here! If any of you can't see that...well, thats your problem! Not mine!"
She lets out a huff, and Jackson gives her a rather wide-eyed, perplexed look. They had barely even had a chance to discuss what had happened between them or what it meant yet, and here she was ranting about it to their fellow co-workers. It was so unlike her, given she usually tried not to care what they think and just take whatever they threw at her (even though he didn't think she should have to), but for some reason, she really wanted them to know that this happened.
"Uh...I have no idea what's going on?"
"These two are convinced that you guys are lying about sleeping together...or, well, they think April asked you to lie about it for her," Meredith explains, tilting the phone to Jackson so that he could see Cristina's face.
He gives April another confused look, unsure of how exactly she wants him to respond here. He knew that they had teased her about her virginity before (he'd even joined in on it, which he often regretted), but he also knew that she was worried about bumming out Jesus, and that it was unlikely they knew about that key missing detail. Still, he could tell that she wanted them to believe her, so he figured the least he could do was confirm what Meredith had already discovered.
"We did...sleep together. In San Francisco. Thats all you need to know, now quit bugging her. April's not a liar, alright?"
"Hey, can you jump her just for proof? She's still looking a little too virginal to me. I'm still not convinced," Cristina cackles, causing Alex to snicker as well.
"You know what?! Screw you guys. I don't have to take this. Come on, Jackson!" April huffs, getting up from her seat at the table.
"Uh, actually, I kind of wanted to eat my lunch-" The expression she gives him almost frightens him for a moment. He's not sure that he's ever seen her so worked up, so rather than protest, he quickly replies, "Alright. Never mind."
As April and Jackson swiftly exit the lunch room, Alex, Cristina and Meredith try to quieten down. It's Alex who ends up disturbing the peace, commenting, "You reckon Kepner's got him in an on-call room pretending to bang her right now?"
"Ha! I'd put money on that," Cristina laughs, causing Meredith to roll her eyes in amusement and wish that her friend was with them in person.
"You're on," He agrees.
