Broomsticks and Coffee
Chapter 2
Two weeks have passed since that day, and I haven't seen Bella again. Why would I? She lives in her Muggle world, and I in the magical one.
These weeks have been tough; I've had the team practice more since the date for the next tournament was set. It's my second professional tournament and the first as captain.
I'd be lying if I said I haven't thought about Bella. After that conversation that day, I didn't speak to her again. Although I still think her view of the world is naive, I feel somewhat guilty for telling her so. It's not her fault, after all.
I decided to go back to the café and apologize to her. I took the Underground again, getting off at Charing Cross and walking from there. I stood for a minute watching her through the window. Today was one of those rare hot days in London. Still, I was surprised when I saw her in that short yellow dress. She looked incredible.
When I entered, she looked up and our eyes met. She turned her head slightly, then shook it and continued serving a customer. When I reached the counter, she was already done with the previous customer and looked at me cautiously.
"Bella."
"An Americano?" She asked, lowering her gaze and focusing on the screen where she took orders.
"Yes, please. For here." I paid for the coffee with Muggle money and then she told me to sit down and wait for my coffee.
I waited patiently at the same table as last time. I waited for her to bring me the coffee before I started talking.
"Bella, I wanted to apologize for the last time," I said, and our eyes met again. "I shouldn't have been so unpleasant to you, there's no excuse. I'm very sorry."
She looked at me for a few seconds before responding, "No problem, Draco. I accept your apology."
I was ready to say something else when I saw her gaze shift to the café door and her posture became defiant.
"Excuse me, Draco, but I have to keep working," she said, then walked towards the door, and that's when I saw him. A vampire.
We learned about them at school, and I've seen a few in my life. He's definitely a vampire. I immediately grabbed my wand in my pocket and stayed ready in case he decided to attack.
"Edward, what are you doing here? Last time I told you not to come see me. I have nothing to talk to you about," Bella said in a low tone to avoid causing a scene, but my table was close, and I could hear perfectly.
"Bella, can we talk? Please," said the vampire with copper-colored hair.
So Bella knows this vampire? But she surely doesn't know the truth. If she did, she wouldn't be so calm in his presence.
Bella looked at the vampire for a few seconds, sighed, and then nodded. She approached the counter and told the manager she would take her 15-minute break now. She then motioned for Edward to follow her to a table at the back of the café. They sat down and started talking, but I couldn't hear anything from my position.
Curiosity was killing me, so I quickly thought of a way to listen to their conversation. I cast a Transfiguration spell on my right ear, turning it into a wolf's ear. I covered my new ear with a hand so the Muggles wouldn't notice, but now I could hear everything perfectly.
"… you know how dangerous it is to be here. The Volturi still expect your transformation, and being in Europe only increases the chances of them finding you, Bella. Come back to America with me. We can protect you there," whispered the vampire, Edward.
"I already told you, I won't go back to America, not yet. I don't owe you any explanation, Edward. You and I are nothing, that's in the past. When Alice asked for my help two years ago, I did it, but that's all. There is no 'us' anymore. I am happy here, and I don't plan to return to Forks or America anytime soon. Thank you for your concern, but the answer is still no."
So this vampire is Bella's ex-boyfriend? And what's this about the Volturi, what danger is he talking about?
"Bella, be reasonable. If you stay, you could die. I can't protect you from the Volturi guard alone. But if you come with me to America, we can protect you."
"The answer is still no. If they come for me, so be it. I won't leave my life here. Now, I have to get back to work. So please, let me live my life. Isn't that what you wanted?"
Who the hell are the Volturi? And why do they want to kill Bella? It seems I misjudged this Muggle.
After a few moments, the vampire sighed in defeat and turned back to Bella. "I'll be in the city, nearby. If you need me, just call. You have my number."
"Thank you, Edward. Goodbye," Bella said, and then she returned to her work. The vampire stayed a few more minutes, watching her discreetly, until he stood up and left through the front door.
After that, I took my wand again and transformed my ear back to normal.
What the hell is going on with Bella? I have no idea. I only know that this girl is more interesting than I would have imagined.
