It has been a couple months since the party.
Galen and Julie's relationship continued to grow. There were hardly times the couple didn't spend time together. Except for when he had to leave the property for work or go into the city to continue submitting notes or picking up a few things.
Like always, when he left the house for work, he never spent more than five hours tops out in the woods, studying wild humans. His visits to the city were not very frequent either. So, the schedule and routine they both started out with when she got here, really hasn't changed much. Only difference was they were together now.
They would also still get visits from brother Cornelius and his family as well as Barlow. All of them were a joy to spend time with. Cornelius had warmed up to her pretty quickly after she and his brother established their relationship. The more he continued to converse with her, the more he could see what his wife and Galen saw. That she was in no sense an animal in any way or by any means like the other humans here. Her mannerisms and intellect really were no different than if he were conversing with another ape.
Because of this, he really began to overlook the fact that she was a human. Which mad it all the more accepting as now having her a part of their small family. Barlow too was happy to see that they finally stopped tip toeing around each other and admitted to one another how they felt.
At one point when Barlow came by, the pair started inquiring more about this human settlement.
The older chimp told them everything he knew about it. How he described the humans, they were really not all that much different from Julie. That they were highly intelligent and quite advanced. How they established their own settlement beyond the reach of potential dangers from apes.
Then the part came were Galen and Julie explained to Barlow their plan. That if they were ever found out, they would like to travel to the human settlement where it would be safe for them.
To Barlow, it was a good idea and most likely their only chance at survival if they had to make a hasty evacuation from their home here.
But then the other issue arose that they addressed with the older chimp and that was if Galen would be accepted there if he were to go with Julie to live there. Because he obviously didn't want to be separated from here. He was aware that by going, he'd be far removed from Ape City and any other ape settlements, surrounded by humans, but he didn't really care. What mattered most is that he gets to stay with the woman he loves.
Barlow explained it maybe a little iffy. That these humans can be quite distrustful of apes. He then told him how it took them a while to get used to Barlow's presence whenever he visited and a while to build up trust with him.
But he knew it was possible that they would accept Galen. Because he recalls the times he visited there, there were actually a small handful of apes that actually lived there or close to it. Many of these apes either somehow stumbled upon it or some were found injured in the woods and were brought back and treated by the settlement's human doctors.
As a thank you for helping or saving them, these apes gave their word they would not say a word to other apes about the human settlement. Some have actually grown to like it there so much, they stayed there and still live there among them.
Barlow stated if they saw Galen was with Julie, and they tell them they are together, then they have a chance. Especially, if they explain that Galen found her and had taken care of her by giving her a place to stay. That would really help them build up trust with him.
This information gave the couple renewed hope because it meant they would not be separated upon arriving there. That they would still be able to continue living together within this settlement.
The older chimp informed them that he would take them there if the time ever occurred in a dire emergency. Which for them again; was being found out by someone. Barlow had been there many times over the years and knew the way there well. He also knew how to keep the pair well-hidden while they cross the open country to get to the forbidden zone so no apes out patrolling the territory will see them.
Julie has been here now for around five months. Thankfully, they have been fine and safe. So, no issues ever arisen with them.
The only problems Galen ever had so far was when a couple times in went into the city and to the institute and had the displeasure of running into Carsia again.
The female chimp did apologize for her small outburst at the party. Which Galen did accept the apology. Though when he did, she started trying to put the charms and moves on him again. Something he wasn't happy about at all. Then he had to make it clear to her again that he was still not interested in a relationship with her.
Something that she didn't take all that well and snapped at him a little again for rejecting her again.
It became quite clear to Galen then that apparently Carsia was used to getting what she wants, and she made it pretty clear she wanted him. When he denied her, it made her angry.
Thankfully, he hardly ever sees her. Seeing as his worked kept him out in the field and hardly ever at the institute except for when he had to submit notes. Plus, the chemistry field worked out of the second floor, while his superiors were stationed on the third floor.
The very few times they ever did run into each other was when they were going and coming through the entrance on the first floor. Whenever she saw him, she'd glare at him. He could care less and would just ignore her.
Cornelius and Zira didn't really talk to her much anymore after what she said and did to Galen at the party. Except on one occasion, Carsia did bump into Zira once and inquired if Galen was seeing someone and if that was partly why he rejected her.
Zira lied and told her he wasn't seeing anyone. But just made it clear that he just simply held no interest in her and that was all. Then Zira didn't see much of Carsia again after that brief exchange of words.
At the current time, both Galen and Julie were out back at the lake.
It was a hot day today. To the point Julie was going to go for a dip in the lake. What was funny to her was, she was dressed lighter than Galen, wearing a sleeveless dress made out of a light and thin material, yet she was still hot. Whereas he was wearing his usual long sleeve green outfit ensemble with the brown leather collar stitched into the top of the green baggy shirt.
"Honestly, Galen. You cannot sit there and tell me you're not hot. I'm dressed very light, yet I'm still burning up here. I feel like it's by some miracle you didn't get heat stroke." Julie says, as they sit there next to each other on the dock.
"Well, I am feeling a bit toasty, but I can't say dangerously so. Though I find it hard to believe that you are burning up in such a light outfit. On top of that unlike me, you don't have fur. So, how is it you are very hot?" He inquires.
"Don't know, but then I always did get hot pretty easily and tend to sweat a lot. Especially, in temperatures like this. Probably why I have been doing a lot of swims while out here. Not to mention I do the swims and walks to stay in shape. Don't want to become fat and lazy after all." She lightly joked.
Galen looked her over, while rubbing his chin.
"I don't think it's working. I think I'm starting to see some flabbiness around the middle there." He teased.
He watched her eyes widened.
"I am not, you jerk. I'm still in shape." She says, with some laughter in her voice.
"Yes, becoming a nice 'round' shape." He stated with a wide smirk as he made a circular motion with his hands and arms.
"Hey, don't make me shove you into the water now." Julie playfully threatened.
"You could do that. But then I may withhold the present I got for you when I was in the city last. And I thought now was maybe a good time to give it to you." Galen tells her with a small smile.
"A present? But you already have given me so much. You don't have to give me any presents." She said.
He reached up, lightly cupped her cheek, and leaned in closer to her. Then he pressed his lips to hers in a gentle kiss.
Julie smiled into the kiss while leaning into it. She lightly wrapped her arms around his neck as they deepened the kiss. A small sigh left them as their lips parted and their tongues joined together in a slow, sensual dance.
After a few more moments, they slowly pulled back but maintained eye contact with one another.
"Just humor me, alright, Juliet." He softly says.
She gave him a soft smile, "Ok, Romeo."
Then they pulled back and he reached into his pocket and pulled out this tiny leather pouch. He then gave it to her to open.
Julie took the offered pouch and opened it. Then she squeezed two of her fingers in and felt something small and hard within it. She pinched it between her fingers and started to pull it out.
When she did, a bright smile lit up her features as she held the item in her hand.
It was a necklace. A long, thin metal chain with a small charm on it around the size of a nickel. The charm was a book. A little metal book charm.
"It opens too, like a book." He told her with a small smile.
Her gaze briefly went to him as he told her this, before going back to the necklace.
Julie reached for the charm and pinched the edges of the little book charm with the tips of her fingers and lightly pulled at it. Just like he said, it opened up. It was a very nice gift.
She gave Galen a bright smile, before leaning in and wrapping her arms around his shoulders, pulling him in for a hug.
"Thank you so much, Galen. I love it." She says.
He wrapped his arms around her and embraced her back.
"You're welcome, glad you like it. Was walking past a table that sold jewelry and other little trinkets. It was sitting there on the end by some other charm necklaces and caught my eye and made me think of you. So, I got it for you." Galen told her.
"You really are the sweetest, you know that?" Julie stated.
"I know. But don't forget handsome, charming, smart, and witty too." He teased.
She chuckles a little, "Yeah, ok you ham. Careful now, don't go getting a swollen ego on me. Otherwise, I may have to shove you into the cool water to bring that swelling down. Can only hope you don't end up soaking all of the water in the lake by doing so."
"Maybe best we don't find out. Because something tells me you won't be happy if that were to happen, and you could no longer go swimming." He jokes.
"You're probably right. Shouldn't chance it." Julie says.
He silently laughs at her quick reply.
"Anyways, want to put the necklace on for me?" She requests.
"Sure." Galen replied.
Julie gave the necklace back to him then she turned around and lifted her long hair off of her neck.
Galen came around with the chain and clasped it together at the back of her neck. Afterwards, she put her hair back down and turned around to face him again. She looked down at the charm and saw it came to a stop at the top of her chest.
"Looks nice on you." He said.
"Thanks. And thanks again for getting it for me." She repeated.
Julie then leaned back in and gave him another small kiss, before pulling back.
"Again, you're welcome." He said, when they pulled back from the kiss.
They chatted for a few more minutes, before the heat became a bit much for Julie and she just needed to get wet.
"Ok, this heat really is becoming to be too much. I really need to get wet." She says.
"I can see that; you're sweating quite a bit." He teased.
"In case you haven't noticed, so are you. Your face especially has a wet sheen to it. Maybe you should consider cooling off too." Julie stated, as she stood up and started bunching up her knee length dress in her hands.
"While it may be tempting, I'm still not overly fond of the water." Galen told her.
"Ok, sit here like a dried-up cactus then." She joked, as she pulled the light dress over her head and dropped it next to her laid out towel.
"Fair enough, I'll just enjoy the view instead." He replied, as he eyed her.
Julie just shook her head with a small smile and reached back to unclasp her bra. Then she pulled it off and dropped it down on top of her discarded dress. Then she pulled her undies off and tossed them onto the small pile.
Like always, Galen's cheeks became pink as he eyed her nude form before him.
Even though they have been in a relationship for a couple months now, they still have yet to take it to the next step. Though he would very much like to. But Galen worried about messing up or possibly hurting her, seeing as he never has been intimate before.
His train of thought was broken, when Julie decided to do a cannonball right there off the end of the dock, making a pretty big splash.

"And I'd love to see you try that without falling in or getting pulled in here." Julie dared him.
He went to say something then paused. He did this a couple times which had her laughing a little because he resembled a fish every time, he opened his mouth, but nothing came out.
Galen sighs, "You sadly have a point there."
He wouldn't put it past her, to attempt to pull him in if he were to reach for her from the dock when she's close enough to dunk her under.
She smirked as she continued to stand there in the shoulder deep water cooling off from the scorching heat. Of course, he just rolled his eyes at her, but the smile still has yet to leave his face as well.
Then they started chatting about other things.
"Oh, I just remembered. Caesar's fourth birthday is coming up soon. It's early in the Fall Solstice. I know you told me quite a bit about calendars in your time and how they go according to month and which months are in which season. If my calculations are correct if you were to compare how we measure solstices to months, then his birthday is...I want to say around mid-October." Galen speculated.
Ever since Julie brought up the concept of calendars and months with him, he found it to be pretty fascinating how they count their years with a series of months rather than just going by the changing seasons.
For fun one day, they calculated birthdays. Galen knew his birthday was at the very beginning of the summer solstice. So, Julie told him his birthday was most likely at the end of the month called June. Then of course, she already informed him hers was in January which was the very first month of the year on the human calendar and the middle of the winter solstice.
Galen then told her how Cornelius's birthday was at the beginning of the winter solstice, probably in December close to Christmas if they had to guess. Then he stated Zira's birthday was early to mid-spring. So, hers was possibly in April somewhere.
Barlow even got in on the fun once. He actually had an old calendar in his collection of things he found in the forbidden zone in one of the cities. Upon studying it and calculating his birthday which was at the tail end of winter he informed them that he surmises that his birthday is somewhere in the middle of March on the human calendar.
Sometimes, Julie still wished they did have calendars here with months. Because to her, it was still easier to count the years that way.
At this time, she knew it to be nearing the end of summer. At least from what Galen told her and going off of the fact that his birthday was a good couple months ago now and if his birthday is in the end of June like they speculated, then right now, it could be nearing the middle or possibly the end of August.
"Really? That's nice. Four is a fun age." She says.
"Yes, and still just as active an age for any child. But anyways, Caesar asked if he could have his birthday here. Because he wanted you to be present for it. So, we were thinking of having his birthday here at the house in these next couple months when the leaves start to change a little and fall." He told her.
Funny how in such little time, Caesar has become pretty attached to Julie and really sees her as his aunt. This is why he told his parents and uncle he'd like to have his next birthday at Galen's house. This was all mentioned the last time Galen was visiting Ape City and popped in for a visit at Cornelius and Zira's home to say hello.
"Sounds great. Does he have any favorite dishes? Maybe we can make a couple for him for the party that day." Julie suggests, as she continues wading in the water.
"Last I checked, he does like cooked fish. My brother has cooked fish in the skillet a few times for him and apparently, he loves it. He also likes these pastries called vanilla puffs. But sadly, I don't think I have the recipe for that. My mother had the recipe, but I unfortunately lost a few of her recipes, that one included. We could try and give the cooked fish a shot. Maybe even Barlow can help us out with that, seeing as he likes to eat fish too and probably knows a few recipes for fish." Galen surmised.
"There's an idea. He'd probably really enjoy it too. Most kids I know always liked having their favorite foods or dishes on their birthdays. Me included." She said.
"Yes, I recall you told me your favorite a couple times. Unfortunately, we don't have pasta here or anything like it." He told her.
"Just one of the many yummy foods apparently this time period doesn't have." She replied, as she leaned back a little in the water, dipping the back of her head in it.
As they continued chatting a little more on the subject, the sun really started beating down on them. It was really starting to get to Galen too.
Julie noticed it as well and would see him tugging at his collar every now and then as they talked. Looked like he was starting to sweat more too. It made her a little concerned for him. Today's temperature was very high.
"Galen, I really think you should consider cooling off in the water. You really do seem like you're getting very hot now. You keep tugging at your collar, pulling it away from your neck, you're panting a little, and you're sweating more." She tells him in a concerned tone.
As much as he really didn't like the water, this heat really was starting to become unbearable for him.
While he could always go back inside, he doubts it will be all that much cooler. Not with this sweltering heat filtering through the windows of the home. Getting wet maybe his best and only solution. Whether it be here or in the bathtub, he may as well go for it.
Though since the lake is right here, this is the better choice than the tub.
"Alright, only because I do feel like I'm about to melt. I think later I'm going to go digging in my drawers for the very few short sleeves light shirts I have." He replied.
"Good, because at this point, I really am concerned and worried that you'll get heat stroke if you don't cool off." Julie said.
He smirked, "Really? Is that all? And here I thought it was because you're curious to see me naked."
She rolled her eyes, "Yeah, ok, you caught me. That was the idea all along."
"And the truth comes out." He teased.
Galen then stood up and got ready to take his clothes off.
He paused for a moment, suddenly feeling a bit shy. Despite seeing her naked a few times now, he has never been naked in front of her. Minus the time she walked in while he was in the bathtub that one time when she told him to stop singing because it was giving her a headache. But even then, that tub is so deep, there isn't much to see above the rim that goes up to the top of his shoulders when he sits in it.
He fought down his shyness and grasped the ends of his shirt and started to pull it up his torso. Then he pulled it over his head and pulled his arms through it and dropped it aside. Already he felt some relief from the heat when the semi-heavy shirt came off.

Then Galen reached down to pull off his shoes and placed those aside as well.

"Happy now? I'm in the water. This is probably the first time ever coming into this lake. If Cornelius had what you call a camera, he'd be taking pictures of me right now for proof and to make a memory of it." Galen says.
"To be fair, I would do the same, if I had a camera." Julie lightly joked.

She just gives him a small smile. Then she closes the gap between them, lightly drapes her arms around his sides and pressed her cheek to his chest, resting her head against him.
Galen couldn't help but smile and wraps his arms around her back. He then presses a small kiss to the top of her head then rests his cheek against it.
They stood there like that for a little while, just enjoying the company and close contact.
"I must say, standing here with you close to me like this with nothing on, is making it harder not to...touch you." He admits.
Julie slowly pulls away a little to look up at him. Then she reaches up to cup his cheek and caress it.
"Whenever you're ready, you can." She says.

Galen reached up and gently smoothed her hair back with a smile. She returned the smile and scooted in closer to him. Julie placed a small kiss on his lips before she wrapped an arm around his side, holding him close.
"That was amazing." She said, as she caught her breath.
"Yes, never thought it could feel that incredible." He replied, between breaths.
"They say, it usually does...with the right person." Julie says, with a soft smile.
Galen couldn't help but share her smile.
"Love you, Julie." He softly said, as he continued smoothing his hand back through her long, dark locks.
"Love you too, Galen." She replied.
The pair laid there, relaxing under the hot sun while they regain their energy back. It felt great being able to reach that next step in their relationship and made them feel like a full-fledge couple.
They can only imagine how much further it will lead them as time goes on. But for now, they were just content with continuing taking it one step at a time.
