07/10/2656- Hierarchy 17th Legion celebrates the three millennia anniversary of its founding

"The 12th Legion of the Turian Hierarchy, known as the Ghosts of Vertaric, celebrates the three millennia anniversary of its founding in its original form. Originally created by the Empire of Cipritine as the 29th Dragoon Regiment and later transitioned into a Motorized and later Mechanized Infantry Regiment, the 29th was folded into the Hierarchy armed forces upon the Hierarchy's creation and served it for over centuries until the Burning of Vertaric. A prospering colony of over a hundred million, Vertaric was one of the first targets of the Krogan retaliation against the Hierarchy for joining the war. The planet was bombed from orbit using asteroids and the majority of its population wiped out, but much of the population and some military units survived, including the 29th. The 29th survived on Vertaric for over three years, helping survivors and attacking Krogan salvaging teams throughout the ruins of the colony. The attacks became so frequent and devastating that some Krogans began to believe the planet was haunted by a Ur'trast, a type of spirit that is said to haunt desecrated burial sights and take those who trespass there. When the planet was reclaimed by the Hierarchy, the first troops to make landfall were met by the remnants of the Regiment and over ten thousand survivors. In honor of their actions, and as part of the existing military buildup to fight the Krogan, the Hierarchy elevated the 29th into the 12th Legion, and granted them the name Ghosts of Vertaric. The Legion has continued to serve the Hierarchy for over a millennia, through the Krogan Rebellions, and the Terminus Crusades, and a hundred small wars forgotten by time and civilization; forever acting as the loyal ghosts of the Hierarchy."
