Hello. fresh chapter coming right at you

btw ya'll probably noticed that the chapters are short. it's because this is kinda like the prelude, what takes place before the series. the chapters will be short until we get to the series.

And this story is semi AU. the atla is not, Aang still defeats the firelord and what not, but it's what happens afterward the war where things get AU. and i'm not going to do every episode in the series, just the ones where i feel Naruto and/or Sasuke would make some noticeable changes

Chapter 4: Training

Naruto was having fun, He had to hand it to Kakashi sensei for creating such an amusingly fun way of training, Well fun for him. Naruto and his clones spent the whole day going through the bell test, Naruto learned through Kakashi that teamwork was more important than any skill. So that was the first lesson Naruto taught the villagers. After the bell test was over the adults were amazed but the kids were still bitter towards Naruto's embarrassing teaching methods. Each squad had someone who got the thousand years of death and tied to a tree. Following the test Naruto and the villagers started helping the clones prepare defenses around the village. "Why are we using orange paint?" one of the adults asked "Because orange is the best" every Naruto clone said all at once. Naruto had mapped out the forest and the best spots to put traps and pranks. Everything from tripwires and paint balloons to a giant hole filled with hippo cow poop. While the Naruto clones and the kids were setting up the pranks the adults were digging a trench around the village and building cover out of scrap. Things were going well.

The following day Naruto started training the fighters how to use kunai which they now had an abundance of thanks to a local blacksmith, Naruto had to admit they were better than konohamaru. Unfortunately Naruto didn't think they could learn how to throw them, but they learned how to fight with them. He also started teaching the fighters some of bushy brows moves, Naruto had gotten some tips and pointers during the chunin exams. Thankfully he'd paid enough attention to teach others. And during these few days of training Naruto realized that he got memories from his clones, it gave him a big headache. But meditating like pervy sage taught him helped Naruto sort through the memories. After 5 days of training and building the scouts reported that the fire nation was on their way and they brought their fire benders and tanks. It was time

Sasuke had to admit that there was more to a sword than he thought. Sasuke was initially hesitant about learning how to use a sword due to having the power of ninjutsu, but it proved to be a valuable skill. During his fight with Naruto, Sasuke realized that he didn't have as much chakra as he thought and that if he didn't have the curse mark he would have collapsed from exhaustion during the battle at the Valley of the End. But if he learned how to use a sword he could fight without chakra and preserve his energy for foes who deserved to see his strength.

Lu ten proved to be a better foe than he would like to admit, Sasuke was shocked when he used his sharingan to study Lu ten's moves but still lost in a spar. Apparently there's more to the sword than just knowing the moves, there's a certain spirituality to it. It's more than just waving a piece of steel. And Sasuke found out the hard way. Sasuke had yet to use a real sword though, he and Lu ten were currently sparring with wooden swords. Suddenly Lu ten caught him off guard and parried his sword out of Sasuke's hand ending the match. Sasuke growled but Lu ten smiled "Don't worry Sasuke, you're getting better, you're already progressing faster than any other soldier i've trained" but Sasuke was still upset and said "But i'm not a soldier i'm an Uchiha!" Sasuke said passionately. The Uchiha were supposed to be the best and his brother had been the best at everything quickly, his brother used a sword and Sasuke never saw him practice with it. Sasuke assumed Itachi must've picked it up and became a master with it immediately. This angered Sasuke, he felt like no matter what he would be inferior to Itachi. Lu ten noticed Sasuke's angered face "Let's call it a day" Lu ten said noticing the setting sun.

Throughout the five days Sasuke had been training, Iroh often watched their lessons complementing both Lu ten and Sasuke, Sasuke liked the praise, he had rarely gotten any from his father, so Iroh praising made him wonder if that was what a father's praise felt like. "It didn't matter" Sasuke told himself, everything at the camp was just a stepping stone towards greater power, towards home, towards Itachi dead. "Hey Sasuke" Lu ten called, breaking his thoughts, Sasuke looked over "Wanna join me, Iroh, and the troops for music night?" Sasuke looked confused "What?" he asked Lu ten smiled "Once a week everyone gathers up and we play music and sing together" Sasuke was once agin confused, this was the fire nation the supposed ultimate power in the world, and they indulged in something as trivial and music, shouldn't they be training. Sasuke shook his head "No thanks" Sasuke went over to his tent at his rations, then laid down in his cot and tried to sleep, but he wouldn't for hours due to all the music in the background. And though he found little sleep, he had to admit. The music was nice.

what do you think? it's hard to portray Lu ten since we don't know what he was like, so he's kinda a OC. but he isn't a main character, so hopefully i'll do right by him for the time he's with us. and because Iroh can't become the uncle Iroh we know and love without realizing the pain of war and what it's doing to the world, unfortunately Lu ten has to die :(
