Lucas sat at the Gryffindor table, taking in the lively atmosphere of the Great Hall. The excitement of the Sorting Ceremony had finally begun to die down, and the chatter of students filled the air like the buzzing of a hive. Ghost Pokémon floated overhead; some of them, such as Litwick, emitted a soft light, casting a warm glow over the long hall.
Lucas glanced around at his new housemates, trying to memorize faces. To his right, Harry Potter sat down, the boy who had drawn so much attention just moments ago. Lucas had heard stories about Harry from the other students and a few books he had read — the boy who had somehow survived an attack from one of the most feared trainers, Lord Voldemort. Now, Harry looked just as overwhelmed as any of the other first-years.
Harry turned to Lucas, his emerald eyes bright with curiosity. "Hi, I'm Harry," he said with a nervous, but friendly smile.
Lucas returned the smile, his teal eyes meeting Harry's. "Lucas Wildfire," he replied. "Nice to meet you."
Before they could continue their conversation, Ronald Weasley, a red-haired boy sitting next to Harry, leaned over. "Blimey, Harry, can you believe it? We're both in Gryffindor! Mum's going to be so chuffed."
Lucas nodded, watching the interaction with interest. It seemed like Harry had already made a friend. "Gryffindor's supposed to be the house for the brave," Lucas said, glancing around at the cheering students. "Looks like we're in for an interesting year."
Before Harry could reply, a hush fell over the hall as a tall, elderly man with a long white beard and half-moon spectacles stood up at the staff table. Professor Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts, raised his hands, and the room fell completely silent, all eyes fixed on him.
"Welcome!" Dumbledore's voice was warm and inviting, carrying easily across the hall. "Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I have a few words to say. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!"
There was a moment of stunned silence, and then laughter rippled through the hall. Lucas couldn't help but grin. He liked Dumbledore already; the man seemed to have a knack for lightening the mood, despite the slightly senile implications of his words.
"Thank you," Dumbledore continued with a twinkle in his eye. "Now, let the feast begin!"
As if on cue, tons of Psychic-type Pokémon teleported in with an array of delicious food — roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, and all sorts of pies and puddings. Lucas's eyes widened in surprise. He had never seen so much food in one place before.
Lucas glanced at Harry and Ron, who were already piling their plates high. "This is incredible," he said, reaching for a drumstick.
Harry nodded, still looking around in awe. "Yeah, it's… it's amazing. I didn't expect any of this."
Lucas picked Grover's Poké Ball from his pocket and released him, seeing that other students were releasing their Pokémon as well.
Grover appeared with a chirp and immediately dug into the food Lucas had already set aside for him. Harry and Ron moved to do the same.
Lucas' eyes widened as Harry and Ron released their Pokémon. A blue and black jackal-looking Pokémon appeared beside Harry in a flash of red, while a rather ugly beige rat did the same beside Ron.
"No way, Harry! You bonded with a Riolu?!" Lucas asked in surprise.
Harry glanced at Lucas, confused, while petting his Pokémon. "Bonded? I just got Riolu from Ollivander."
Lucas shook his head as others looked at Harry's Riolu with interest. "Not just anyone gets a Riolu as a partner Pokémon. They are extremely loyal and will only choose a worthy trainer who is truly kindhearted."
Some students were now speaking in hushed conversations, watching Harry. Harry himself flushed at Lucas's supposed praise. "Well, Ollivander did seem a little strange while he had me try Riolu's Poké Ball. More than usual, in any case."
A bushy-haired girl who seemed to be the same age as the three boys spoke up a few seats down. "Is that a Treecko you have? I heard that they are very rare, being a starter Pokémon in Hoenn for only the best trainers."
The attention was now on Lucas, but he took it in stride, smiling slightly at Grover while petting him. "Yep, Grover is my day one. We've been friends for as long as I can remember."
"I can't believe this," Ron said in a mock complaining voice. "You guys have all these cool Pokémon, and I'm stuck with Scabbers."
"Well," Lucas began. "You already have an evolved Pokémon, which none of us do. That's pretty impressive, Ron."
"Yeah, I guess I do," Ron replied with a grin.
"Don't go giving yourself all the credit, Ronniekins," a voice said from across the table. Two red-headed boys who looked suspiciously similar to Ron grinned in a synchronized manner.
"Oh Ronniekins, are you trying to show off to your new friends?" the other brother asked teasingly.
"Fred, George, shove off," Ron grumbled.
Harry frowned. "What are they talking about, Ron?"
"Well, I didn't actually evolve Scabbers on my own," Ron began. "I was supposed to get a Pokémon from Dad that wasn't Scabbers. You see, my dad is a Fire-type Gym Leader, and we've got a farm where he breeds a bunch of them. Growlithe, Ponyta, and a few others. I was supposed to get one of them, but Dad got a huge order from Sinnoh or something, so he had to send off a lot of Pokémon. The only Pokémon that were left were the elders, breeding pairs, and young ones. Scabbers has been in the family for ages, and he doesn't do much beside lay down and eat, so they gave him to me. He doesn't listen, or move, or do anything, really, but I guess it's better than nothing."
Lucas chuckled, feeling a sense of camaraderie building with his new housemates. As he began to eat, he couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness for what the year would bring. Hogwarts was already full of surprises, and he had a feeling there were many more to come.
Lucas woke early the next morning, the first rays of sunlight streaming through the tall windows of the Gryffindor dormitory. He rubbed his eyes, feeling the comforting warmth of Grover, his Treecko, curled up beside him. The room was filled with the soft sounds of his fellow first-year boys stirring, stretching, and whispering about the day ahead.
"Morning, Grover," Lucas whispered, giving his partner a gentle nudge. Grover blinked awake and gave a cheerful chirp, hopping onto Lucas's shoulder with a lightness that made Lucas smile.
As he got ready, he took the time to remember every single one of the boys he shared a dorm with.
There was Neville, a shy boy with a Bulbasaur named Sunny. Laying in bed was Seamus and Dean, who had a Voltorb and Litleo, respectively. Finally, there were Harry and Ron, who he met last night, getting ready to head down with him.
They made their way downstairs, their footsteps echoing on the stone steps. The common room was already buzzing with excitement. The scent of sizzling sausages and fresh-baked bread drifted up from the Great Hall, mingling with the chatter of students eager for their first day.
As he entered the Great Hall, Lucas smiled as he was struck with a sense of familiarity. Students were already seated, eating breakfast and talking animatedly. The air was filled with the sound of laughter, the clatter of cutlery, and the occasional cry of a Pokémon.
"Lucas! Over here!" called Ron, waving him over to the Gryffindor table. Harry and the girl who had made the comment last night, Hermione, were already seated, and Lucas slid into a spot next to them, Grover hopping down onto the table.
"Good morning!" Hermione said brightly. "Ready for our first day?"
"Absolutely," Lucas replied, his eyes shining with excitement. "I'm looking forward to seeing what the classes are like here."
"I've heard we have Botany today," Harry said, his voice barely containing his excitement. "I can't wait to see how they do things here at Hogwarts. I bet it's going to be amazing."
"Yeah, and I'm hoping we get to see some of the older students in action," Ron added, shoveling a forkful of eggs into his mouth. "They say the upperclassmen have some incredible Pokémon!"
After breakfast, a senior student with a shiny prefect badge pinned to his chest approached the first-years. "Alright, everyone, listen up!" Percy Weasley announced, his voice commanding attention over the chatter. "It's time for the school tour! Follow me, and I'll show you around Hogwarts and explain how things work here."
The group of new students hurried to follow Percy out of the Great Hall, excitement buzzing in the air. Lucas walked alongside Harry and Ron, his eyes wide as they moved through the grand corridors of the academy. The stone walls were lined with portraits of past trainers that attended Hogwarts, landscape paintings, pictures of Pokémon, and more.
"Damn, this place is massive," Lucas murmured, craning his neck to take in the high ceilings and ornate carvings. "I've never seen anything like it."
Harry nodded, equally awestruck. "Yeah, I've been reading about it, but it's even more incredible in person."
"Just wait until you see the classrooms," Percy called back over his shoulder, a knowing smile on his face. "Each one is more amazing than the last."
Percy led them to the first stop: the Battle Terrains, a vast outdoor space filled with various terrains to simulate different environments. There were rocky outcrops, sandy pits, and even a small pond, each designed to provide unique challenges for Pokémon and trainers.
"This is where we'll have our Environmental Awareness class," Percy explained. "Madam Hooch is in charge. She is tough but fair, and she'll teach you how to think survive out in the wilderness. This is also a common area where students like to engage in Pokémon battles."
Lucas watched as a group of older students practiced their battle techniques on the rocky terrain. He felt a thrill of excitement at the thought of joining them soon, eager to test his skills and learn from the best.
As they continued the tour, Percy led them to the greenhouses, where Professor Sprout taught the Botany class. The air inside was warm and humid, filled with the scent of earth and the sounds of Pokémon chattering among the plants. Lucas could see various types of Pokémon nestled among the foliage, some small and timid, others bold and curious.
Professor Sprout, a kind woman with a wild mane of gray hair, greeted them with a cheerful smile. "Welcome to Botany!" she called out. "Here, we will focus on the study and cultivation of berries, apricorns, and other plant-based resources important for Pokémon care and battling. This class will help you gather many of the ingredients required in your Medicine class and Pokéball making class."
Their last stop was the library, a towering room filled with shelves upon shelves of books. The smell of old parchment and leather filled the air, and the only sounds were the soft rustling of pages and the quiet footsteps of students browsing the aisles.
"Here's where you'll find all the information you need for your studies," Percy said, his voice hushed out of respect for the library's quiet atmosphere. "From battle techniques to the history of Legendary Pokémon, it's all here."
Lucas's eyes roamed over the vast collection of books, his mind racing with the possibilities. He couldn't wait to dive into the library's resources and learn everything he could about Pokémon. He felt a sense of awe at the sheer amount of knowledge contained within these walls and a deep appreciation for the opportunity to study here.
After the tour, it was time for their first class: Pokémon History with Professor Binns, an elderly man with a wispy beard who seemed more interested in droning on about ancient battles than engaging with the students. Still, out of the will to do well in school, Lucas took notes diligently as Professor Binns described a famous battle between two legendary Pokémon, Groudon and Kyogre, that had shaped much of the region's history.
During lunch in the Great Hall, Lucas sat with Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville. The hall was filled with the sounds of laughter and conversation, the clatter of cutlery against plates, and the occasional cry of a Pokémon. The smell of roast chicken and fresh bread made Lucas's stomach rumble as he helped himself to a generous portion.
"Well, that class wasn't much fun," Harry said, biting into a sandwich.
"Yea, true," Lucas replied, though his mind was still buzzing with all the new information. "I was hoping that that class would be interesting. There is so much actual history out there that can be taught to us."
Hermione perked up, her eyes lighting up with curiosity. "Oh, yes! There's so much to learn here. I've been reading about the different Pokémon regions and their unique histories. It's fascinating how interconnected everything is."
Ron rolled his eyes good-naturedly. "Blimey Hermione. How can you already want to be in the library? We just got here!"
Harry chuckled, but Lucas was only half listening. Across the hall, he noticed Draco Malfoy and his goons sneering at a group of Hufflepuffs. He caught a bit of their conversation, something about "weak Pokémon trainers" and specifically the word "weakbloods."
Lucas' hand clenched into a fist. He remembered his confrontation with Draco on the train and the smug look on his face. He knew he'd have to keep an eye on him.
After lunch, the students headed to their next class: Botany with Professor Sprout. She stood at the front of the greenhouse, a warm smile on her face. "Welcome to Botany," she said, her voice full of enthusiasm. "Here at Hogwarts, we value the importance of plant-based resources for both Pokémon care and battling. Today, we'll start with the basics: berries and apricorns."
Lucas leaned in, intrigued. He had heard of apricorns but had never worked with them before. As he glanced around, he saw Harry and Ron looking equally curious.
Professor Sprout held up a small, round fruit with a hard, colorful shell. "This," she said, "is an apricorn. They are quite special because they can be used to create Poké Balls. Different types of apricorns produce different types of Poké Balls, each with unique properties. But that's a lesson for another day!"
She set the apricorn down and picked up a handful of berries. "Berries, on the other hand, are essential for caring for Pokémon. Each type of berry has its own properties — some restore health, others can cure status conditions like poison or paralysis. It's important for any good Pokémon trainer to know how to cultivate and use these berries effectively."
Professor Sprout gestured for the students to gather around a large, leafy plant with bright red berries dangling from its branches. "Today, we'll start by learning how to properly care for a Razz Berry plant. This berry can be used to make Pokémon more friendly and can be particularly useful when trying to calm down a stressed or anxious Pokémon."
Lucas watched as Professor Sprout demonstrated how to prune the plant, carefully cutting away dead leaves and encouraging new growth. As she worked, she explained the importance of soil quality, sunlight, and water for healthy berry plants.
"Now it's your turn," she said, stepping back and motioning for the students to take their places at the tables. "Pair up, grab a plant, and let's see how you do!"
Lucas teamed up with Harry, and the two of them set to work on their Razz Berry plant. Harry carefully trimmed the leaves, while Lucas gently loosened the soil around the roots to improve drainage.
"This is harder than it looks," Harry muttered, squinting at the plant.
"Yeah," Lucas agreed, wiping a bit of sweat from his brow. "But it's kind of fun, don't you think? It's like taking care of a Pokémon, but… with leaves."
Harry chuckled. "I guess you're right. And if we mess up, at least it won't try to use Ember on us."
As they continued working, Lucas felt a sense of satisfaction. The work was challenging, but there was something calming about tending to the plants. It was a good way to start their first day at Hogwarts — learning something new and working with their hands.
Professor Sprout made her rounds, offering tips and encouragement as she went. When she reached Lucas and Harry, she nodded approvingly. "Good job, boys. You're doing just fine. Remember, a little patience goes a long way in botany. These plants may not be as flashy as some of the Pokémon you'll encounter, but they're just as important."
Lucas smiled, feeling a warm sense of accomplishment. He exchanged a look with Harry, who seemed equally pleased. As they packed up their things and began to leave the greenhouse, Lucas felt a surge of happiness. This was exactly the kind of class he had hoped for when he arrived at Hogwarts.
After the botany class with Professor Sprout, Lucas and the other first-year students made their way through the bustling corridors of Hogwarts to their next class: Pokémon Morphology and Evolution. The class was held in a large, airy room filled with models of different Pokémon at various stages of evolution, anatomical charts on the walls, and a collection of Poké Balls displayed on shelves.
Standing at the front of the room, her posture straight and her expression stern yet inviting, was Professor McGonagall. Today, she wore her customary emerald-green robes and a pointed hat, which cast a shadow over her piercing eyes. The students quickly settled into their seats, with Lucas finding a spot next to Hermione Granger. She had her notebook and quill ready, eager to absorb every word.
"Welcome to Pokémon Morphology and Evolution," Professor McGonagall began, her voice firm yet full of energy. "In this class, we will study the physical characteristics of Pokémon and explore the fascinating processes of their evolution. Pokémon evolution is not merely a change in appearance; it is a complex biological transformation that can enhance a Pokémon's abilities and adapt it to its environment. We will delve into the triggers and mechanisms behind these transformations."
She moved gracefully across the classroom, pointing to a large model of a Charizard. "To begin, let us discuss the basics of Pokémon evolution. Evolution in Pokémon allows them to change form, usually gaining strength and new abilities. This change can be triggered by experience, exposure to certain stones, or even by the strength of their bond with their trainers. Can anyone provide an example of a Pokémon that evolves through friendship?"
Hermione's hand shot up instantly. "Pichu evolves into Pikachu when it forms a strong bond of friendship with its trainer."
"Correct, Miss Granger," McGonagall replied with a nod. "Friendship as a catalyst for evolution is a fascinating concept. It demonstrates the importance of the relationship between a Pokémon and its trainer, which can directly influence the Pokémon's physical development."
As Professor McGonagall continued her lecture, she walked over to a display featuring three small models: an Eevee, a Vaporeon, and an Espeon. "Eevee is an excellent example of a Pokémon with multiple evolutionary paths. Depending on various factors — such as the environment, time of day, or exposure to certain evolutionary stones — Eevee can evolve into one of several different forms, each with unique physical characteristics and abilities. Can anyone explain why this is advantageous for Eevee as a species?"
Lucas raised his hand, catching Hermione's curious glance. "Because it allows Eevee to adapt to different environments and situations, increasing its chances of survival and success as a species."
"Precisely, Mr. Wildfire," McGonagall said, her lips curving into a small smile. "Eevee's adaptability is a prime example of evolutionary flexibility. It showcases how evolution can be a response to environmental pressures, making it a versatile and resilient species."
She then moved to a large anatomical chart of a Bulbasaur, pointing to various parts of its body. "Let us examine Bulbasaur next. As Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur and eventually into Venusaur, we observe a gradual increase in size, strength, and capabilities. These changes are not superficial; they involve significant alterations in its biology, such as the development of a symbiotic plant structure on its back, which aids in photosynthesis and provides additional energy."
Lucas leaned forward, his fascination evident. He scribbled down notes, eager to remember every detail. Professor McGonagall then held up a Poké Ball and released a small, blue-and-black creature with a metallic sheen.
"This is a Beldum," she explained as the class leaned in closer to see. "Beldum evolves into Metang and eventually into Metagross. These evolutions involve a substantial increase in both mass and psychic capabilities. In this class, we will examine how these changes affect the Pokémon's morphology, focusing on how the addition of brain tissue and increased body size necessitate new adaptations for balance and coordination."
The Beldum floated around the room, its single red eye glowing softly. Professor McGonagall guided it to hover in front of Lucas. "Would you like to feel the magnetic force it uses to levitate, Mr. Wildfire?" she asked, her voice encouraging yet formal.
Lucas extended his hand, feeling a faint tingling sensation as the magnetic energy seemed to pull at his fingertips. "It feels… strange, like there's a push and pull at the same time," he said, eyes wide with wonder.
Professor McGonagall nodded approvingly. "That is the electromagnetic force at work, essential for Beldum's movement. Understanding these forces is key to understanding how certain Pokémon function and evolve. This class will help you all grasp the incredible variety of Pokémon and the biological principles that govern their lives."
As the class continued, Lucas felt a surge of excitement. He couldn't wait to learn more about Pokémon evolution and see what other surprises Hogwarts had in store for him.
As they walked back to the Gryffindor common room, Lucas fell into step beside Harry and Ron. "I can't wait for tomorrow," he said, grinning from ear to ear. "If today was any indication, this year is going to be incredible."
Harry nodded in agreement. "I've got a good feeling about this place. I finally feel like I'm meant to be somewhere."
Ron chuckled. "Yeah, just as long as my brain doesn't turn to mush after McGonagall's lectures."
The trio laughed, their voices echoing through the stone corridors. As they reached the common room, they found Hermione already settled in with a book, her nose buried in the pages.
"What are you reading now, Hermione?" Lucas asked, dropping into a chair beside her.
Hermione looked up, her eyes bright with excitement. "It's a book about the different regions and their unique Pokémon habitats. There's so much to learn! I thought it might help with our homework for Professor Sprout."
Lucas smiled, feeling a deep sense of belonging. As the fire crackled in the hearth and his friends chatted around him, he knew he was exactly where he was meant to be.
Authors notes: This is my first time writing any sort of fanfiction. I took inspiration from Mr. Choas' series to start this story. It may not be great, and I can guarantee that it won't be perfect, so any sort of criticism will be happily received. Especially on how to blend these two worlds into a story with a plot that makes sense.
Standard Disclaimer: I do not own Pokémon nor Harry Potter.
