Jess, Rory, and Paris were sitting around the table, empty take-out containers lying on it with packages of pop tarts, mugs of coffee, and a few candy wrappers and their school books scattered around. Dinner was long since over, they ate and enjoyed lively conversation for a long time, and finally, Rory decided it was time to go over Paris' note cards one more time before her friend left for the night. It was after nine at night now, Rory and Paris were deep into one last quiz while Jess was lost in a Tom Wolfe book called The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.
Although every few minutes he couldn't stop himself from getting distracted by looking up at his girlfriend and seeing her in her element. She was always beautiful but something about her while she was doing what she loved, learning, teaching, just made her brighten and it made him want to— well, he liked it a lot, let's just leave it at that. So much so that he decided it was probably best to get some fresh air while they were studying. He stood up, put on his jacket, padded his pockets to make sure his cigarettes were in there, and walked towards the back door.
"Jess, wait, where are you going?" He turned to see Rory up and following him, he could hear the worry in her voice too.
"Just out back." He shrugged. "Could use some fresh air before I'm forced to eat so many snacks that I'm no longer able to walk."
Rory rolled her eyes, "Don't be so dramatic. But okay, Paris and I are finishing up soon anyway."
"But…"
"Paris no. We've been at this for hours, I told you, you know what you're doing, you'll be fine."
"Fine but if I fail this test then subsequently the whole year, leading me to drop out of school, forcing me to lean too heavily on alcohol and the pharmacy of prescriptions I'm prescribed, ending with me being broke and homeless, it's your fault."
"I'm willing to take the blame."
"Fine, I have to finish this last quiz though."
"Okay." She turned to Jess, "We'll be done in about five minutes."
He nodded his head but Paris interrupted, "Ten minutes! Maybe fifteen."
Jess saluted her sarcastically before turning around and walking out of the door and Rory went back to her chair. She was about to ask the next question when Paris spoke first, "I guess you really did have big plans tonight."
"What do you mean?"
She scoffed, "Oh come on, Rory, just because I don't have a boyfriend doesn't mean I don't know what happens when a boyfriend comes over to spend the night while the parents are away."
"Hey, don't say it like that! You're getting the wrong idea."
"Mhmm, sure I do. That cherry red blush on your cheeks is telling me otherwise." Paris leaned in and spoke quietly, "Tell me, is it really as good as people say? Do you understand why it's all people talk about, sing about, and make movies about? Why there have been wars started over it?"
"What?"
"You know, sex, is it really all it's cracked up to be or…?"
"What? I don't know!"
Paris rolled her eyes, "Yeah, right, and I believe public education is just as good as private."
"No, really Paris, I don't."
"Rory, if you don't want to talk about it, that's fine but don't lie. You were with your other boyfriend for like a year, and now you have James Dean spending the night with just the two of you."
"He's not spending the night, it's just movie night." Paris quirked her eyebrow at Rory, still unbelieving, "No, really, he's not. Do you see his overnight bag anywhere? No, because he won't be here overnight."
"Oh please, he doesn't need an overnight bag, the whole point in spending the night with your significant other is to be naked."
"Paris, stop, please, you've got it all wrong. I've never had sex, and I'm not planning to tonight." Well, I don't think so, anyway' She added on to herself.
"Does he know that?"
"Yeah, of course he does! Like I said, just movie night."
"Oh. Huh," she said genuinely surprised. "Well then, if you have no special plans it shouldn't be a big deal to postpone and help me out tonight."
"Paris…" Rory growled a little.
"Okay, okay, I'm going, sheesh. No need to bite my head off."
Still, Paris didn't move for a few moments hoping Rory would object to her leaving. When she didn't Paris huffed loudly as she stood up, brought her plate to the sink, and started to gather her things with Rory's help.
Jess was looking up to the sky as he exhaled a lungful of smoke, it was almost a full moon tonight, he always liked them. Something about them always made him feel calmer, like all was right in the world even though logically he knew it wasn't. Just for a few seconds, he could pretend though. He wasn't really sure what he should do, part of him thought it'd be the right thing to leave and let the girls have the movie night to themselves. Actually, most of him told him that was the right thing to do, unfortunately… or fortunately, depending on who you ask, Jess never was one to care what was right and wrong, he did what he wanted and he wanted to stay, so he would.
He just threw the cigarette butt over the railing of the porch, getting a moment of satisfaction at this small act of rebellion knowing it'd annoy Lorelai, when the back door opened. He heard footsteps he knew were Rory's walking closer to him then a few seconds later her arms wrapped around his waist and he felt her rest her head on his back. He couldn't deny the comfort the small action brought him.
"Where's Paris?"
"She left, she said to tell you goodbye."
"No, she didn't."
"No, she didn't. Really she just insulted you and told me to tell you to stop being stubborn and read the recommendations already."
"Oh, I already did, I just wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of admitting she was right."
"I didn't know you and Paris talked to each other when I wasn't around."
Jess thought he heard a hint of jealousy in her tone so he smirked but he also turned around in her arms so that he was facing her and wrapped his arms around her too. "Yeah, well, neither did I until the stalker somehow started cyberstalking me and found my email. Really, I thought you might have given it to her."
"How could I when I don't even know it? Shouldn't that be something a girlfriend has?"
"Sure, but I much prefer having you in person, talking to Paris over the internet is probably the safest way to interact with her."
Rory laughed and had to agree with him, she opened her mouth to say more but Jess leaned down their small height distance and kissed her. Normally their kisses started off slow, soft but Rory felt something different from Jess this time, she might not have a lot of experience with it but if she had to put a word to it, she'd call it passion. Jess used his arms still wrapped around her to pull her closer, their bodies pressed so tightly against each other that she could feel his exhales and inhales. Jess' hand on her hip started trailing up her body not losing contact once, her stomach, chest, she gasped when it was dangerously close to her breasts. She didn't have time to decide if she liked it or not because he kept moving up her neck, chin, face, and then finally into her hair, running his fingers through it as he held onto her head, she decided she liked the feeling.
They kept kissing and Rory felt something building, especially when Jess took steps causing her to walk backwards until she felt her back hit the outside wall of her house. Her hands were still loosely wrapped around his waist so she decided to copy his action, lightly trailing them up his chest and stopping when they were around his neck. She wasn't sure how long they stayed like that, kissing and holding each other so close. At one point her eyes shot open wide when she adjusted herself and felt a certain part of him against her waist that she'd never felt before, uh, standing to attention, as it were.
Jess felt her body tense and finally pulled his lips from hers, they were both breathing hard, almost panting. Jess' hand that was in her hair moved to the siding of her house and leaned against it, his face next to hers, "Rory…"
"Hmm?" She asked, a little dazed.
Jess needed to slow this down or he'd end up trying to do more than Rory was ready for, thankfully, they had plans that would give him time to cool down. "Movie."
"What?" Rory wasn't sure what he was thinking, she felt like her brain was partly made of fog after that kiss, no, she was sure that had to be considered making out, she could admit, she was a fan.
"It's getting late, if we want to watch a movie still we should probably get inside."
"Oh. Right. Yeah, that makes sense. Okay, let's do that."
He smiled at her, this time with no smirk in sight, just a soft smile that made her heart melt. She grabbed his hand, opened the door, and made her way to the couch. It was as if her mom had a video recorder in the house and was watching them because as soon as she passed the phone in the hall it rang. She looked at the clock and saw it was 9:45 now, she sighed, her mom had called four times since Paris got there earlier today and it was starting to upset her because it was clear she didn't trust Rory home alone, or at least not when she was dating Jess because she never acted like this before. She sighed as she let go of Jess' hand and motioned him to the couch while she went to answer the phone.
"Hello?"
"My favorite daughter!"
"Your only daughter."
"That you know of, at least. What are you up to? Still studying with Paris and Jess?"
"Mom…." Rory groaned.
"What?"
"What are you doing?"
"What do you mean?"
"This is the fourth call in as many hours, you've never acted this way before when you had to go somewhere overnight."
"Ahh, but I've never had to spend the night with my mother." Lorelai tried to joke but Rory knew her well enough to see right through it.
"Mom, Grandma is asleep and has been for almost an hour now,"
"Can't a mother worry about her daughter?"
"I bet grandma has had the same thought a thousand times."
"That's evil… and dirty… and rude, and probably a downright lie! Plus this is vacation Emily, we're getting ready to go for dinner."
"Mhmm," Rory replied sounding disbelieving.
"Okay, okay, I get it, sorry I just miss you when I'm away from you."
"It's been like 8 hours mom, we've spent more time apart without even one phone call when you work nights and I have school. We're watching a movie so I have to go. I'll call you in the morning, love you!"
Rory stared at the phone for a few long moments after hitting the end button, her eyes wider than normal. Did I just hang up on my mom? Did that count? She took a deep breath after she eventually put the phone down, she didn't think that counted, it wasn't in anger or anything mild annoyance, maybe. Well, at least the phone call helped cool things down a little and she wasn't all tingly and foggy-minded anymore, wait, was that her mom's goal when she called? She looked over to Jess who was laying back comfortably on the couch with a book in his hand, one leg propped up on it. She decided to make a pit stop in her bedroom to get back into the comfy but cute tracksuit she had picked out before Paris showed up. After she was dressed and looked herself over in the mirror she left her room and smiled as she made her way over to the TV. Okay, so we have some options tonight, I got 'An Affair to Remember' '2001: Space Odyssey', 'Sixteen Candles', and '8 Mile'."
Jess looks up from his book surprised, "8 Mile?"
She enjoyed the time he took to look over her new outfit, the look in his eyes made it clear he liked it. "Yeah, why, what's wrong with it?"
"No, nothing, I'm just surprised that was a movie you chose to rent."
"Well, it's basically background facts of a fascinating personal journey. A personal journey of an artist struggling against the indifference of an indifferent society. Completely something I'm into." She defended.
"Huh, yeah, I guess you have a point."
"So that's what you want to watch?"
"Fuck no. It just surprised me." He said looking back at his book.
She rolled her eyes, "What movie, Max?"
"Max?" He questioned the new name.
"Max Fischer."
"Oh don't try to comment on my reading intake, you read more than anyone I know, Hermione."
"Huh, didn't see you as the Harry Potter type."
"Of course, I read them, I mean don't get me wrong, I don't usually go after best sellers and I'm in no rush to see the movie but they were pretty good. I'm not biting my nails waiting for the next one to come out but I'll get to it eventually."
"Oh my god," She said with a giggle.
"What?" He asked sounding defensive.
"You're hooked! That's so cute!"
He scoffed, "No way, and I'm not cute."
"We can go get the movie right now, it just became available for rent this month." She offered.
"Rory…" He warned.
"What house do you think you'd be placed in? I mean we all aim to be Gryffindor but most aren't. I think you'd end up in Raven— Oof!"
She was cut off by him poncing off the couch onto her, his book went flying somewhere as he started tickling her. She tried to tickle back but wasn't doing that great of a job between her laughter, gasps of air, and pleas to stop.
"Jess, okay, okay, I'll stop, you win!"
He chuckled when he finally stopped his attack, his hands on her side that were just poised for peak tickling flattened out on her, she was lying flat on the ground catching her breath as he looked down from his position above her. He snarked, "Remember this next time you think of calling me cute."
"But you are…" She cut herself off when Jess' fingers became tense again, ready to attack, and she huffed, "Fine."
He leaned down and kissed her again, it quickly became heated again, this time it was Rory who was the aggressor, shyly opening her legs so he could get closer, this time not so timidly moving her hands around his chest, neck, face, and back, getting more comfortable with him in this type of situation as he left her mouth and started kissing lower, her chin, her jaw, then her neck causing Rory to make sounds of enjoyment. Rory had never been in a situation that caused her to make those sounds before. Jess was happy that they finally had some time alone and didn't have to constantly make sure the whole town wasn't watching them or that Luke and Lorelai weren't hiding in the bushes waiting for them to do something bad or for the moment they got too close. Jess lightly grazed the underside of her breast over her shirt, enjoying her intake of air when there was a knock on the door.
He groaned and dropped his head, hitting his forehead against Rory's chest. Somehow he knew someone else was going to interrupt them, he just hoped it wasn't Luke, he can be really overbearing when he wanted to be. He rested there for a moment before standing up and offering his hand out to help Rory up.
"Thanks," She said and he noticed the blush on her cheeks and her adjusting herself in the mirror making sure nothing was out of place.
With a sigh he walked over to the TV and picked up 2001: Space Odyssey. He wasn't really in the movie-watching mood anymore but he knew Rory well enough by now that she'd want to get back on schedule now that he was no longer distracting her. He looked at the clock on the wall and saw it was after ten now, he wasn't worried, it wasn't as if he didn't come in late all the time, Luke never knew where he was, hell, he still didn't know Jess had a second job. Rory though, if it got too late she'd call off the movie and send him home for the night, and he didn't want to leave just yet.
"Hurry up, I'm starting the movie," Rory heard Jess say as she made it to the door.
She opened it up with a smile, not bothering to look through the shades to see who it was. This was Stars Hollow, it wasn't as if there was anyone in town she didn't know and there was definitely no one she had to be scared of opening the door for. Her smile dropped and her eyes widened when she saw who was on the other side of the door, holding ice cream.
"Dean? Uh, hi, what are you doing here?"
"Hey, Ror. Uhm, I heard your mom was out of town for the weekend, and well, we're friends, right?"
"Yeah, of course, we're friends."
"Yeah, that's how I feel too. So anyway I thought, as your friend, it'd be nice to come over and keep you company, so you're not alone."
"And you brought ice cream."
"Yeah, your favorite. So can I come in?"
"It's pretty late, Dean."
"Yeah, I guess so. It's just, I haven't had much time to see you lately. Yeah, I needed some distance for a while after the breakup but I miss you."
She opened her mouth to reply but the video was finally rewound so it started and the TV blasted the MGM's lion roar.
"Jesus!" Jess yelled as he scrambled for the remote. He couldn't see who was at the door and he didn't want to have a whole bunch of rumors spread about Rory having him over late at night, not that he cared but he knew Rory did. So his intention was to stay quiet until she got rid of them but wasn't accounting for the volume of the TV or the video automatically playing. He was planning on apologizing to Rory for getting them busted but was surprised, then angry when Dean pushed past her storming into the house.
"What are you doing here, Jess? It's after ten. Stop trying to push and turn Rory into someone she isn't."
Jess meaningfully moved his eyes from Dean to the ice cream and back again as if to say 'Look who's talking.' "Me? I was invited. And what about you? I'm sure your intentions here tonight are completely pure."
"I think you've overstayed your welcome, it's time to go," Dean said, using his height to try to intimidate Jess, but Jess just scoffed.
"There you go turning into Edgar Bergen again, putting words into her mouth. Rory is a big girl, and believe it or not, has the vocabulary to tell me when she wants me to leave."
Dean took another step closer and held his hand up in a fist threateningly, "You have two seconds to get out of here before I…"
"Dean, stop!" Rory said jumping inbetween the two with her back against Jess' front, "He's right. I invited Jess here, you're the one who just showed up and then pushed your way into my house without my permission."
Jess was trying his damndest not to be an asshole but Dean really brought out the worst in him so without thinking about it, he wrapped his arm around the front of her waist, pulled her flat against him, and smirked at Dean. Again that sign of possession annoyed Rory greatly but she decided to address it when they were alone again.
Dean looked at Rory as if she had betrayed him and though it upset her that he was hurt, she knew she didn't do anything wrong, well, tonight anyway. She knew when they were still together she was lying to herself for so long and staying with him when she knew it wasn't what she wanted and that wasn't fair but there was nothing she could do about it now. It seemed that he could see from her eyes that she wasn't going to change her mind or beg for him back so he sighed, the tension in his body slumping to defeat as he turned and made his way to the door. Right before he opened it he turned back to them and threw something at Rory, she knew she'd miss whatever it was so she ducked leaving an opening for Jess to catch it. He was surprised to see it was keys. He reluctantly handed them to Rory, carefully trying to read her but he didn't get much, her eyes were wide, her mouth open, and she was just as blindsided as he was.
"Dean, what?"
"I made it for you, I can't look at it anymore, and I already have one. You should keep it."
"No, I can't do that, we're not together anymore, it's yours, save it for Clara or something."
"Seriously Rory, keep it, it's yours. You won't have to drive the bus to school and you'll be able to get around, or away if you have to." He said the last part eyeing Jess dangerously, like he didn't trust him not to attack at Rory any moment, and like he was positive at one point she'd have to get away from him.
"Why you…" Rory gripped Jess' arm as it was pulling away from her and he was starting to go after Dean.
"Jess, no, don't." She pleaded.
"No, Rory, I'm sick of this guy." The front door slammed and when they looked over at it they realized Dean had left.
Jess had all intentions of following him but Rory wouldn't let go of him and he didn't want to hurt her by ripping his arm away from her. "Jess, please don't, it's not worth it. Let's just sit down and watch the movie, okay?"
He took, one, two, three more deep breaths angrily looking at the door before exhaling slowly and looking at Rory and nodding. He was stiff as he sat down at the far corner of the couch as he waited for Rory to grab her snacks and the remote. Rory turned off the lights and sat down close to him but not too close, he didn't seem like he was in the mood to have his personal space messed with right now so she leaned back and pressed play.
After a few minutes of watching the movie and realizing that he had Rory close, that it didn't matter what that dick head thought because she chose to be with him, he calmed down. He got more comfortable on the couch and put his arm around Rory with her snuggling in. Another half hour later, they migrated so that they were both lying down on the couch, Jess behind Rory, his arm around her waist, head propped up so he could see over her.
He'd seen this movie before, a few times actually so he found his attention straying. He wasn't angry anymore but he did wonder why Dean showed up here, were he and Rory talking a lot? Did they hang out often? Would she keep that from him?
"Jess, what's wrong?" Rory had been enjoying the movie and the little swirls and shapes her boyfriend was drawing with his fingers on her hip but when he slowed down and then stopped moving his hand she turned her head to look at him and found him looking off into space with an unhappy look on his face.
He looked down at Rory when her voice brought him out of his thoughts, He lied, "Nothing, I'm fine."
She turned her body so that they were now lying face to face so she could look at him, "No you're not clearly something is wrong. Tell me… please."
"What was he doing here tonight, Rory?"
"I-I don't know, he just showed up."
"Does he just show up often?"
"No, this was the first time, I was just as surprised as you were."
"Do you guys talk a lot?"
"Not really, the only times I've seen him since the breakup were with you. Well, that and sometimes while I'm walking around town but we don't talk. But he is my friend and I want to be able to talk to him without it being weird eventually."
"Oh."
She leaned in closer, "I don't feel that way about him anymore."
"You don't? At all?" He asked both skeptical and hopeful. He hated feeling insecure but this whole situation gave him heaping tons of insecurity, though he tried to hide it.
"Positive."
Her words soothed him at least a little bit and he tried to put on the facade that it didn't bother him at all, that he was as cool and calm as ever, "Oh yeah, and why is that?"
She rolled her eyes, "You know why."
He smirked as he leaned down to kiss her again, Rory joining in eagerly. Jess was surprised when he felt her hands on his skin, under his shirt, that was a barrier they hadn't passed yet but obviously, he had no problem with it or intentions to stop her. It made him feel a little more safe touching her, though his hands didn't go under her clothes he lightly cupped her breast, and he pulled back just enough to ask, "Is this okay?"
Rory leaned forward kissing him again while nodding her head yes. Jess kissed her harder, pulling her lower lip between his teeth, while massaging her left breast and then her right, enjoying the harsh breath she was letting out. Feeling her like this, hearing her sounds made him want her so bad it was hard to think straight but he knew, somewhere in his head that was moving too fast for her. He had no choice but to leave her chest and reach down to adjust himself.
Rory was in a haze, she didn't think someone could be so stimulated just by kissing, she didn't know someone not even touching your breasts but touching your shirt over your bra, over her breasts could make her make sounds she never had before. She knew what was happening as she felt the need to rub her legs together to try to gain some friction, she was a smart woman, and she was a liberated woman who wasn't afraid to experiment with herself. She knew she was turned on and felt the need for relief, she just didn't expect to want it so bad. She watched as Jess moved his hand down to his jeans and adjusted himself, it made her feel better to know that she wasn't the only one so affected.
She made a decision and leaned forward, taking his ear into her mouth and trying something new, she enjoyed hearing his sharp inhale and then groan of her name. She trusted herself and Jess enough to enjoy this and know when she wanted to stop. She took his hand with one of hers and lifted up her shirt with the other before placing his hand on her bare stomach, giving him permission without words to continue.
Jess turned his head, taking his ear lobe out of her mouth and kissing her again. She gasped into his mouth when she felt his calloused fingers slip underneath her bra and finally make contact with her bare breast and nipple. He took it in between his two fingers and lightly pinched causing her to let out her first moan, feeling his smirk into her mouth feeling proud of himself. Rory's natural reaction was to push her chest forward, wanting more.
Rory was never one to be outdone, and although she was pretty sure guys didn't react the same way to this she wanted to do something. She decided to try something that she read in one of her mom's magazines so she ran her hands from his chest to his neck, then his hair letting it run through her fingers before tugging on it hard. Jess moaned and thrust his hips forward once instinctively, and then it was Rory's turn to feel smug.
Rory felt her whole body tighten, what he was doing to her felt so good but it wasn't enough, something was missing. Jess left her lips again trailing his mouth down to her neck, kissing and sucking, focusing on making Rory feel good, trying to read her cues and not pushing her too far.
"Jess," she said his name in a voice much too breathy to be her own, unsure why she even spoke.
"Hmm?" He asked into her neck, not stopping.
She rubbed her thighs together again, more aroused than she'd ever been before and unsure what to do about it. When he felt her wiggle he finally pulled away enough to look at her, he knew he wanted to make her feel good and he knew how to do it, he just didn't know if it was too fast. This was the first time he'd been with a girl he cared about enough to be scared he was going to fuck it up. Who was he kidding? He knew he'd eventually fuck it up but he was hoping it wouldn't be any time soon. Making sure to keep eye contact with her he took his hand away from her chest and slowly trailed down, down, down, circling her belly button before continuing. He stopped right above where her panty line would be though her tracksuit pants had ridden up while they were laying.
"Rory?" He asked.
When she nodded her head after a few long moments he slowly continued the trail his fingers were making, slowly adding pressure to his touch, this time staying above her clothes, keeping his eyes on hers the whole time. Rory opened her legs wider, giving better access, her heart pounding. Rory closed her eyes when he ran his fingers over her center, feeling some relief when he stroked over her clit. He leaned back down to kiss her again and her arms automatically wrapped around his neck to pull him even closer. He moved his fingers faster, taking note of what speed, motions, and pressure caused her the most reaction, taking her moans into his mouth, feeling her body grow tenser the faster he pleasured her. Finally, the coil in her core was released and she felt her whole body spasm and then relax. Jess slowed his motions as did their kiss, Rory's breathing starting to even out.
When he finally broke the kiss and pulled back enough to look at her full face. She opened her eyes slowly and almost immediately felt a little embarrassed, sure she was blushing. The look of worry on Jess' face and the affection in his eyes calmed her down so she softly smiled. With a lack of anything better to say, she eventually said. "Wow."
Jess chuckled and kissed her again, this time much more chastely, laying his head on the pillow. Hearing "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that" from the TV regained both of their attention and so they settled in with Jess holding Rory close to finish the movie.
Lorelai was just happy to be home, things might have not ended on a horrible note with her mom but things were bad enough they left a whole night early. It was about 1 pm and Lorelai was tired enough to consider staying the night at her parents' house but thankfully had a moment of clarity before declining her mother's offer. She walked up her porch steps, half asleep, more than ready for bed. She saw the light from the TV in the living room through the window, proving her daughter did indeed fall asleep while watching it at the night so she was sure to be extra quiet when she entered the house. She put her suitcase, purse, coat, and keys down before walking into the kitchen to get some water, one in the morning right before bed was too late for coffee, even for her. She looked around at the mess of take-out boxes and plates and smiled, she could tell Rory had fun with her friends tonight.
She decided that clean up could wait for the morning and after taking a long sip of her water she turned the lights off planning to check on Rory before going upstairs. She stopped in her tracks, her eyes opened wide and her mouth gaping wider at the sight she was met with. There they were, Rory and Jess cuddled up so close she was sure they could barely move without bothering the other, Jess' arm much too comfortable wrapped around Rory's waist, fast asleep.
She wanted to yell, scream, and kick Jess out but after a moment she knew that was unreasonable. Okay Lorelai, think about this logically, they obviously fell asleep watching a movie, Rory's safe, and clothes are on, I repeat, clothes are on and not more disheveled than sleeping would make them. No alcohol in sight, just lots and lots of junk food. They're good kids and their clothes are on, thank god.
She closed her eyes tightly before opening them, nope, they're both still there. Cautiously, she walked back into the kitchen and then to her daughter's closed door, with a deep breath she opened it and looked inside. She breathed a sigh of relief when the bed was still made, the room looked almost untouched, so at least she knew that they hadn't spent any time in there.
She stood there for a minute, what the hell was she supposed to do now? She wanted to wake them up and send Jess home and Rory to her room with a promise of talking tomorrow. But it was past one in the morning, and they were just sleeping. If she wasn't so freaked out at this moment, she'd probably think they were cute but she was freaked out. This was like last year when she stayed out all night falling asleep with Dean, her mom's instincts were going haywire. And what about Luke? Did he know where Jess was? She had to believe Luke wouldn't okay an unsupervised sleepover at her house without talking to her, right?
Okay, okay, she came to a decision after a few more long moments, she walked over to her phone stand, took out a pen and paper, jotted down a note, and propped it up on the coffee table where they'd see it as soon as their eyes opened. She took two steps up the stairs before turning around and looking at them again, almost changing her mind. With a sigh, she shook her head, turned around, and made her way up the stairs sure that sleep would be much harder to find than it would have been about ten minutes ago.
