Ami always admired her mother's blue sapphire necklace. Blue sapphires came t to be one of Ami's favorite colors and sapphires were her favorite gemstone. Her mother Saeko came to own an impressive collection of diamond jewelry, but she also favored sapphires like her daughter did and had purchased a blue sapphire necklace when Ami had been little. Ami did love the blue sapphire necklace. She ended up wanting to wear it, but never dared to ask.
Her mother once caught her in her bedroom looking at it. "Ami, what are you doing?" she asked.
"Just looking at your blue sapphire necklace, Mommy," she answered.
"Would you like to try it on?" Saeko commented seeing the look of anticipation on her daughter's face of wanting to try it on.
"Yes, Mommy!" she declared.
"Alright," Saeko consented, "but only for a few minutes. A blue sapphire necklace is priceless. Believe me. You could lose it while playing. We do not want that to happen." She ended up fastening the silver chain of the blue sapphire necklace around her daughter's neck and watched as Ami patted the necklace on her neck.
"It is so pretty!" Ami declared looking at it around her neck in the mirror of her parents' bedroom.
"It looks good on you," Saeko agreed. She allowed Ami a few moments to admire it before she unclasped it from around her daughter's neck. Ami been disappointed when her mother took it away, but she knew how much her mother treasured it. She could not bear to see her lose it.
"Maybe I will let you wear it more often when you are older," Saeko offered seeing the smile disappearing from Ami's face.
"Really?" Ami asked with a big smile on her face at the idea of getting to wear such a beautiful blue sapphire necklace when she was a big girl. Being a big girl would be fun. Then she could wear it without the fear of losing it for she knew how her mother loved it.
"I promise," Saeko assured her and that was a promise she kept to Ami as she grew up.
