This story can be considered as a sequel to 'These Moments' or as a standalone of short-ish oneshots. Family fluff for Jina including Steve.
Chapter One

Nina Williams was…..pregnant.
She was almost four months along. The fetus had a form of a helpless little being safe and sound in her womb. The doctor said it was week fourteen. The bones were starting to harden. Most of the organs now existed. She could feel her child move.
"I'm surprised a woman like yourself decided to keep going with the pregnancy." Steve said, settling down a cup of tea in front of her.
"I don't kill children. Why would I kill my own?" Was her dry response as she picked up her cup.
And if I could kill my own children, you'd be dead by now.
She couldn't kill him even though she wanted to. She never accepted hits on pregnant women and children. Anyone below eighteen for her was a no-no. Even Jin knew this much which was why he never even tried to force her to take out a child of an enemy. She took a few sips of tea as Steve observed her in silence.
"Are you excited about meeting your child?" He then asked.
She glanced at him.
Who said they couldn't envision her as a mother? They should say, they couldn't envision her as a mother to anyone else's kids but Jin's. That was the correct thing to think. Nina was certain in Jin's abilities to be a father more than in hers to be a mother. He gave her that reassurance no one else was capable of giving her, whether it was Anna nursing her during the Ogre days or some dude trying his luck with her.
"I-I mean atleast this time the child wasn't forced on you. No one snatched your eggs and fused it with some random sperm." Steve muttered. "Atleast you know the father and he is being supportive."
At least you love the father.
The way Nina looked at him made his stomach lurch. He couldn't part from his curiosity. He was a journalist now. In these warful times.
Gordon Ramsey cooking show was blaring on the screen and Steve decided to turn it off because the man began raising his voice and cursing. He apologized to Nina for it.
Nina settled her cup down. "I'm looking forward to my child's cries being the reason for my sleepless nights rather than my anxiety of the future of this world."
Steve blinked at her. Nina chuckled. "So that's your way of saying yes, you are excited about meeting your little one?"
"Always the resilient one, aren't you?"
"I like having all the answers. I like knowing that everything will be okay in the end."
Nina sighed and closed her eyes. She was excited of course, it may not have shown itself but she brought all the clothes for her upcoming kid. Right upto a two year old. Diapers too. She had made a little plan on keeping her kid safe and healthy.
She may not have a strong maternal side to her like Jin's mother did but she had a protective side that kept Jin safe. If she could do that for him, why wouldn't she do it for their child?
"I'm one of the lucky ones. Jin's the father. I don't have to worry about the moral side of things because he's got that covered. He'll do what his mother did for him."
Teach the kid values her father never taught her. Instill humanity in them. Knowing that this kid had at least one good parent put her fears to rest.
Whoever raised Steve did the same. He turned out okay. She wasn't worried about what kind of person her child could grow up to be. She was worried about if her kid would like her at all.
"If you don't mind….could I be a part of your child's life?" Steve asked innocently. "I don't only make good tea, I make a mean roast chicken too."
"Why would you want to be?"
"I want to be a big brother to a child that my mother gave birth too." He answered honestly. "I know you bagged yourself a husband in the middle of this war that Kazuya is still beating at like some dead horse but anyone can use an extra pair of hands. I mean Jin at some point has his family drama to deal with and you will be alone with the baby. You might not be able to manage alone."
He'd change nappies, feed the baby, stay up all night if he had to just to rock the baby to sleep and be a dedicated babysitter.
He was honest but in a different way than her. She would never allow herself to be so vulnerable to a stranger. Now, Nina cared nothing for the anonymous sperm donor and what traits he had. She didn't care enough to blame him for Steve's nativity. As she looked at Steve and noted how he was almost similar to her in facial appearance, she took another sip of her tea.
"This is odd as me drinking tea prepared by you." Nina said.
"C'mon, admit it! You can use a babysitter for free!" Steve exclaimed, his own excitement bled into his tone.
"A free babysitter?"
He nodded enthusiastically. Nina sighed.
"Look Steve, if I had a choice, if I was never frozen you wouldn't have existed. In fact, I would have never gotten pregnant at all in my twenties."
There. That ought to rain on his parade. She wasn't a motherly type but at least she had Jin to help her with her baby. Who would save Steve from her temper and lack of maternal instinct?
There was no parent in the picture to take his side or to console him. Besides, he was twenty something years too late.
"Then why is the reason you got pregnant now?" He bit back sarcastically.
"I don't have to answer that." She replied curtly.
He is bold, like her. She felt like throwing up.
"Life sometimes isn't planned. Things happen…we just have to make the most of it."
"You grew up without me. You had your fair share of parent evenings, tooth fairies and firsts. You don't need me."
I don't need you.
"It's not about need. It's about want. I want you in my life." Steve revealed. "I know I'm sounding pushy and you may not need or want me but don't you want to give it a chance? Get to know me. I think you'll like me. Everyone else has."
Nina rolled her eyes. "You are hardly a boy wonder."
She gauged his reaction but his face hadn't twisted into a reaction of anger or hurt. He just rolled his eyes.
"If I wasn't a boy wonder, why are you meeting me every Friday afternoon? This is the fifth time we've met."
Damn. The silly boy sussed her out. Why did he have to inherit her sharpness?
"I can't say no to some good free tea." She lied through her teeth, trusting that he wasn't sharp enough to detect it. "If I was mothering you, I'd let you call me mom." She confessed. "And you know I'd kill you before you called me that."
Steve let out a dry chuckle. Then another. Another. Until he was laughing.
"The irony of our situation. You can make empty threats but you'll never be able to harm me. Just like you can't even lay a finger on Jin."
He really wanted to push it. Call her mom and test boundaries but he was a gentleman by choice.
"You forget, besides a boxer, I'm also reporter. I investigate. I always get to the bottom of the truth." Steve said.
Nina blinked. "I'm meeting you because I want to quash the reality that we could ever be family. If I have to meet you for a hundredth time for you to realize that we are not a family, then I'll gladly do it."
Did she listen to herself?! The little wave of anger in her tone. Buttons were being pushed.
"I'm sorry. I..just..all my life I wanted to meet you. I wanted a mother. I'm selfish but you are completely within your right to reject me. I guess I'll be grateful for the times we met."
"Why on earth do you even like me?"
Steve smiled. "I like how sarcastic and straight forward you are. And that you trust me enough to drink the tea I make. I really enjoy talking with you too. You're more British than I am..." He admitted.
They never got past the point of talking about events. He did most of the talking anyway. She let him ramble away about his concern for the war torn countries and how he planned on helping in any way he could. Sometimes he'd narrate parts of his childhood with his adoptive parents.
Jin didn't make her do anything but mentioned about how he'd do the same if he were Steve and Jin was someone Nina loved and respected most in the world.
"Do you think I could ever come to love you?" Nina asked Steve in a low tone.
She didn't think she could ever love him the way Michelle loved Julia. The way Jun loved Jin. The way a mother should love her child. This man was created in a lab from DNA of people who didn't give a shit about him and by people who wanted to experiment on him. He didn't grow in her. Not like the baby she was carrying in her womb right now. She shouldn't even be here, drinking the tea he made. He grew in another woman's womb, in Emma Kliesen's womb. She was dead now and Steve was trying to replace her with Nina.
"You probably thought you'd never love Jin at some point in your life." Steve said. "And then you gave him a chance, you love him most and now he's your family." He said.
It didn't freak him out that Jin was his age. Steve wasn't after a dad anyway. He already had three fathers. His adoptive father who taught him boxing, Paul and Marshall. They were his fathers. As for mothers, he only had one but he was always more closer to his adoptive father. His adoptive mother loved her biological kids. Steve was just like the kid who stayed over and the friend of her kids. He wasn't going to count Emma properly because she was a blurred memory.
"You don't owe me anything, you're right." Steve said Nina stood up to leave. "I just wanted to let you know that I'd like to be a part of your family with you, Jin and the baby."
We'll all be a happy family and play ring a-ring a-rosies.
Steve saw no point in lying to her and even if he looked like an emotional idiot, he hoped he could be the second or third person to melt this ice woman. If Jin Kazama succeeded in gaining her love and Eddy Gordo in getting her friendship, the two emos in Nina Williams' life, then maybe he had a chance being on good terms with her too? Mind you, he was no emo but he could pass off as a softie. A polite British softie with the occasional bouts of sarcasm. They also looked a bit similar and he had read so many articles about how similar looking family members were often the closest.
"Families can't be forced." Nina responded calmly. She sighed. He had a hopeful look in his eyes that made her a little….soft.
Nina forced her eyes away and instead reached for her coat that was resting on the back of her chair.
She told Steve the truth so he'd think she had her hands full with another child and that there was no room for him. But Jin told her that she let Steve know because a part of her wanted to give Steve a chance. A chance to form a bond. Her darling's intuition about people had never been wrong so far.
Maybe her upcoming kid could use a devoted big brother. It would be better if they loved each other unlike her and Anna. It would be one of the kindest things she could do for her child and for Steve. She ceased her thoughts before they took an unwanted turn.
Perhaps she was glad he wasn't ice cold like her.
"I'll see you next Friday." She said while putting on her coat.
