Okay…bare with me on this one…
Child Guts
With a swing of his sword, Guts stopped his blade short of being swung all the way down in his vertical swing; the current life he was afforded by the odd children and talking tree took some getting used to after a year, the Kokiri themselves warmed up to him after six months but only went so far as to give him passing glances whenever he walked around the forest village of Kokiri.
He still remembers the vivid day he dragged his bloody body through the forest after fending himself from the pack of wolves of Hyrule field and other dangers of the night, with only his blade at his side and a broken arm after fleeing the mercenary gang that pretty much raised him in during that stupid war.
He didn't remember his mother's face much, as all he remembered was her handing him off and receiving something in return; he learned later his mother sold him off as fodder to the mercenary gang that bought him, all for a measly amount of ten rupees. Guts supposed he just counted himself stubborn and lucky.
Wielding a blade was all he came to know afterwards, blood was all he saw each day, chopped heads, dismembered limbs, that chaos of the war took no prisoners, and he was no different, but he did everything he could to survive each battle.
Then it all culminated in cutting himself loose from his handler, the fucker Gambino was planning on selling him to a Garudo woman for the same price that his mother sold him for. Fat load of shit that man was, talking mad shit that he was hogging all the glory in his gang; fucker, he wasn't doing anything but survive, while Gambino took all the money and sent everyone out to die.
It didn't take long for the mercenary gang to catch up with him after he killed Gambino in self defense, as the man was lunging at him with a knife after he escaped his bindings.
Dragging his ass through the forest to escape the field was another thing altogether, as the nights were not that much better. Stalchilds came out, which by the time day came and he reached the forest, he could barely stand up and walk, but he persisted onwards to find some semblance of safety to recover from his wounds.
Guts furrowed his brow as he continued his reps of swinging his blade, its length nearly the same as his height, as it was always his go to weapon choice of always wielding a blade bigger than most others could wield; He didn't know why, but he just preferred the weight and size, as it always helped him to cleave his enemies in one swing, than needing more than that with a smaller blade.
That, and it was just how he grew up, wielding a sword bigger than he could wield; it was what the mercenary gave him to fight with, a sword bigger than him, and from there, it was all he was comfortable with wielding.
"Guts!" A cheerful voice broke him out of his trance of practicing his swings in front of his tree house, a dwelling the Great Deku Tree provided him.
Guts ceased his swinging, and planted his blade down into the ground to wipe the sweat off his brow, before giving the voice that called out his name his attention. Looking around with a stoic look, Guts witnessed a stray fairy fly down from out of the air and floated in front of him.
Among the various things that set him apart from the Kokiri children, aside from being an outsider that was welcomed in, and a child at that, the children of the forest had fairies that accompanied them wherever they went.
The one in front of him struck Guts as stray, was that the female sounding fairy had no forest child with her, that or he didn't know enough about fairies, but that was besides that point.
With a gruff look that crossed his face, Guts responded to the fairy with a plain tone of disinterest, "Yeah?" He responded while resting his arm on the pommel of his blade he planted into the ground.
"Hyaaaah!" Gut's voice rang out in the chambers of Queen Gohma, his blade sung through the air as he cleaved his sword into the eyeball of the arachnid enemy. Green ichor squelched and exploded from the exposed eyeball of Queen Gohma being sliced into.
"Guts, look out behind you!" Navi warned while bobbing her flying body in the air in the direction behind Guts.
Queen Gohma, while she was attempting to retreat from the berserk child that assailed her body with such stretched, watched from her damaged eyeball as the child took heed of the fairy's warning by pivoting around on his foot.
The young boy yelled in battle fury as he swung his sword larger than himself, the blade itself cleaving through Queen Gohma's children while she herself was in the midst of retreating up one of the pillars of her chamber.
"Get back down here you shit!" The boy yelled in fury as he rushed towards the pillar that Queen Gohma climbed up on, the child pulling something from out of his pocket before tossing out whatever it was at her.
A bright flash caused Queen Gohma to go stunned from the sudden loss of sight, causing her to fall off from the ceiling.
Guts himself ran under where the giant arachnid boss was fallen down towards, and slid to a halt to hold his blade up towards the falling body of Queen Gohma; With a explosion of green blood, that of which cascaded over Gut's form as he held the carcass of Queen Gohma over him, he eyed the boss above him where his blade as struck true into the back of the Gohma's body.
With a grunt of exertion, Guts hefted the body off from him and began to swipe the archnid's blood off from him.
Navi soon flew down to him and chastised the boy, "Really? Was all that necessary? I said you only needed to go for the eyeball!"
Guts on the other hand looked back at Navi with an annoyed expression, "I liked my way better." He replied back at the fairy with a bit of a nasty smirk, to which Navi could only sigh at.
"Oh wow!" Saria remarked as she passed by Guts, witnessing the Hylian child walk off a fairy in tow around his head, "Yourself a fairy, Guts!"
Guts, pausing in his steps to converse with the only Kokiri that ever gave him the time of day to chat with him, beside the shop keeper of the forest village, prompted him to stop and talk for a minute with a calm tone, "something like that." Guts answered with a gruff tone, then looked in the direction of the entrance to the great Deku Tree. "The Big Tree wanted something from me, and sent this little thing." he thumbed up at Navi.
"Hey!" Navi remarked while bobbing her body through the air up and down in protest of Guts calling her a thing, "I'm not a thing, I told you, my name is Navi!" she insisted out of the child soldier.
Guts, with a momentary look up at Navi, shrugged carelessly, "That remains to be seen." he said back to Navi with a smirk, "Last I checked, Fairies heal wounds, and when I asked you if you could do that, you insisted you were above that."
Guts remembered how often fairies were sought after during the war, as mere fairy dust itself helped patch wounds, and a fairy itself could completely heal a soldier's wounds; the only problem was that fairies themselves were hard to come by, so it was a very costly commodity to look for.
The cost itself of buying a fairy itself in a bottle was upwards of two hundred rupees, buying bread and food alone was already costly enough at ten rupees, so for him, he never bothered to save up for one.
That, and it was troublesome when the mercenary gang he was once part of, had very grubby fingers, it was hard to trust anyone during that civil war.
Saria giggled, bringing Guts out of his reminiscing of his time in the civil war, she brought her hands up over her mouth, amused at the two's antics towards each other, "Well at least you got someone to look over your shoulder, right?" She asked.
"Tch." Guts clicked his teeth in annoyance, while giving the annoying fairy a look, "That remains to be seen, I don't do well when I have someone else with me on the battlefield." Guts remarked, before excusing himself from Saria, before he trudged on to speak with the Great Deku Tree, as the young boy was summoned to speak with him.
As Guts walked over, Saria watched the young boy go off with sad look, she felt for the boy to have had to face such horrors of what happened in the war outside the forest; the great Deku Tree had told her how bad it had gotten in the civil war of Hyrule, and that no one was safe from the flames of the war.
Not even Children.
Saria watched the boy from afar enter the entrance while pushing aside Mido, making her a bit amused that the boy had no room for the self professed leader of the Kokiri to get in his way; It hurt knowing that the boy Guts had to grow up in such a way, to never know peace outside of war from the moment he could remember his life.
She had gotten to know the boy over the many months, while rough around the edges, Guts knew enough about himself and the world that things were not all right, but it was the only life he knew himself; the small amount of peace that the forest village provided him, was so alien to him, that it got him stir crazy to the point of forgoing everything and went into practicing his sword day in and day out.
Saliva and mucus covered Guts head to toe, the boy had lunged himself into the mouth of the Dodongo King creature, his in hand as he had stabbed his sword into the tongue of the beast, blood exploded into his face as he wrenched free his blade from the tongue.
"GGGRGEGH!" King Dodongo howled in pain as it attempted to bite down on the boy inside his mouth after he felt his tongue get stabbed, before feeling his very tongue get sliced off while the boy himself stabbed his sword into the roof of the King Dodongo's mouth afterwards.
Meanwhile, inside the cavernous mouth of King Dodongo, Guts released a grunt of effort, "HHUURRAGH!" Guts finally yelled as he wretched free his sword from the roof of the mouth he threw himself into.
Blood now began to shower onto him from the entire mouth from him cutting up everything inside it, from stabbing and cutting the gums, to slicing off the uvula that looked essential to allowing the King Dodongo to breath fire, it didn't matter, everything was getting cut and sliced from Gut's sword.
With a mighty blow of wind from the King Dodongo himself, the beast opened his mouth and spat out Guts along with a metric tons of blood, the boy himself sliding along the ground in mucus and blood while the Beast began to limp around in pain it felt, as well as losing so much blood from out of its mouth.
"Hrh." Guts heaved at he picked himself up, while taking with him his blade, he eyed the King Dodongo as it stumbled around in wooziness, before casting itself into the lava after tripping over itself.
As the beast roared in pain until it died in the pool of lava until it hardened around him Guts, released a sigh of exhaustion and plopped onto his rear end to take a rest.
"Guts!" Navi flew in, her tone indicated she was irritated at the young boy that he didn't bother to heed her advice again, "You had bomb plants around you! You could have even left the dungeon to stock up on bombs for your empty bomb bag and came back! Why can't you just follow my advice?!" she asked in worry for the boy.
Guts simply shrugged with a somber smirk as he leaned his blade against his shoulder, "I liked my way better." he jested, earning an irritated shout from Navi as she began to berate him on matters such as following good advice and other things.
"So you're leaving. Huh?" Saria questioned Guts, as she met at the bridge leading to the exit of the forest, she couldn't help but express worry for the boy that he had to go through more trouble.
Guts however shrugged while adjusting his large blade he had sheathed on his back, he gave Saria a gruff look, "Yeah…" he answered her, "...I suppose I owe it to the big Tree and deliver that jewel he gave me to the princess…it's the least I can do…you know, for saving me."
"Hmm…" Saria smiled wanly toward Guts, while holding something to her chest, "Well, just so you know…I was the one that save you…" she replied back to the boy, earning a raise brow from Guts, "I never thought that war outside this forest got that bad that people used children in it."
Guts shrugged again, and looked elsewhere but at Saria's face, "Yeah…well…you thought wrong…" he answered back.
With a nod, Saria held out an ocarina to Gut, "I suppose so…hey, remember those times I showed you how to play this?" she asked the boy, who gave his attention back to her.
Guts looked at the object in question, before looking at Saria with a quizzical look, "Yeah?" what of it?" he asked, "Are you giving it as a parting gift or something?" he asked.
"Yup!" Saria answered, as Guts took the offered gift, and pocketed the musical instrument, "Please do visit me when you come by the forest." she requested while Guts began to take his leave from the somber moment.
"I'll probably see if I can…no promises though." Guts answered back gruffly, his voice trailing off as he crossed the bridge and left through the entrance to the bridge for the Kokiri village.
As Guts's form disappeared through the log tunnel, Saria frowned in sadness for the boy, hoping he'd have a safe journey ahead.
